Delicious tasting menu. It has such creative and beautiful courses. I was definitely very full by the end of the meal, which lasted about 3 hours. Service was impeccable. Careful with the sake pairing, it's incredible but quite a lot! In a great way though!

My wife and I dined there on the first Saturday after their grand opening. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we would expect this restaurant to quickly garner 2 Stars from Michelin. So the space is very similar to Grace save for the tables which are square with their edges cut off. They chose to retain the beautiful and very comfortable chairs as well. The 12 course menu was strongly influenced by Japan. I've included a photo of the menu but stand outs included the fried Washington state oyster, the consommé for the Miso soup, the Chawanmushi which is a uni/foie gras combination, the Miyazaki Wagyu. The entire menu was appropriately prepared including the degree of saltiness and temperature. The wine pairings were both interesting and diverse and at a reasonable quality level. The price of $205 for the menu is a great value whereas the wine pairing is on the more expensive side at $170. The staff were very professional and competent including replacing and not just refolding my napkin, clearing the table of any loose crumbs, and describing the food. Also there was a pleasant affability to the staff which made us feel most welcomed. Overall this was a great dining experience and we would strongly recommend it to anyone who likes asian food, or anyone was a passion for food from the ocean and of course all those who find Japanese food dear to their heart. Congratulations for providing us with such a successful first weekend. ,

We used Yūgen’s “Kaisho grab and go” concept yesterday, which seemed like a great way to try their food at home while the pandemic is going on. Aside from initially thinking we were at the wrong place, the experience was fantastic. Once inside we were greeted by an extremely friendly hostess who showed us around the grab & go “market” and answered any questions we had. We took home their Tonkotsu ramen, the carbonara Udon, some prawn crackers, a selection of desserts, and a frozen cocktail. The frozen cocktail (“served” in a Capri-sun Mike pouch) was very tasty and a great treat on the way home. The food was all spectacular without exception! Both noodle dishes were amazing. The great thing about how they packaged them is that they have various flavoring ingredients (nori, chili oil, spice mix, saffron, seaweed strips), so you can flavor dishes with less or more intensity per your preference. The highlight of the entire meal was probably the matcha canelé for dessert. Super crispy on the outside and beautifully creamy on the inside with amazing flavor. We will be coming back to Yūgen for sure. They said they’d switch their menu up regularly. But maybe before they do well be back for a few more canelés ;)

The food was beautiful. So elegant and grateful. Every bite was perfectly crafted. It was like poetry on a plate! The passion and talent and pure grace could absorbed from ever angle. Highly recommend.

We went on a Tuesday night, and there were only a total of 3 tables including us. Service was good as expected for such caliber. However, our server failed to introduce the dining situation at Yugen as being a set menu. We are familiar with this type of dining, but usually they tell you about it. Also, many fancy restaurants with set menus will give you a copy of the menu so you can remember what you ate or refer to it later. Here, they introduce the dish and quickly run away. I honestly don't remember anything I ate. The presentation was nice, but nothing too exciting. Nothing like Next, Alinea, or the former Grace where you got elements of surprise and wow factors. As for the food, it was okay. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think I would return. The meal alone was $205 per person without drinks, tax , and tip. We left full, but not satisfied. I'm fine with paying for a great meal and experience, but this fell short for me.

We tried the 8 course tasting menu. Beautiful service, kind staff, amazing food. I have never had service this good, in any restaurant in my life, and that is not an overstatement. We were served and accommodated even though at one point it was many hours past closing time, and we were having such a pleasant time we never even realized it (staff did not mention it to us even once). I would recommend this restaurant experience to anyone. I wish only the best for this restaurant moving forward, and I hope the amazing staff will get to continue to serve amazing food even during this difficult pandemic period

Great new restaurant for tasting menu with Japanese and French influences. Liked the casual yet hip service and atmosphere. Dishes were on point for execution and taste. I also liked the chef talking with us afterwards about the meal and the printout of the menu

Spectacular Japanese inspired restaurant that already won a Michelin Star! Chef Mari Katsumura and GM Mogran Olszewski have made sure the food is beautiful and an explosion of flavors. The space of the former Grace Restaurant provides a modern ambiance that is very comfortable and service is fabulous. It is a must visit restaurant in Chicago
