This was our first stop in Chicago!! Very friendly, staff, cute little place for lunch or snack! Would like to try some other options there we had the fried bacon mac & cheese and the burger 🍔 My non vegan bf didn’t really love it unfortunately would like to try something else I expected the backed Mac to be a little different but I’ll always support a local vegan restaurant. Their hearts are in the correct place. I’d go back.

I was so excited to finally try this vegan place, & the nachos sure did not disappoint! They were amazing, just everything about them was perfect, tasted like pretty authentic Mexican nachos. I give it four stars because the mac & cheese was just not good at all. The consistency is good, but the taste is just not there what so ever. It was too salty and in a way a bit bitter?? Was disappointed because I was really excited to try it!

Update 4/14/23 w/pic Changed my rating from 5 to 2 stars. I order the same thing every time and I’ve never been shorted like I have today on my chips in my nacho plate. Awful and very disappointing. This was the only place to get good nachos. They did me so wrong today. The nacho plate is my favorite. Whenever I want a treat it surely satisfies my appetite.

This place is cute, and they have a lot of unique flavors. I tried every single flavor. I’m not a vegan and I love donuts and I had heard this place might be better than Beacon Donuts or even other non-vegan donut places. I wouldn’t say that’s true — the donuts were kind of dry. Still very cute though! They have outdoor seating only.

Location was behind some road construction but east enough to get to via the 65 bus! Came to try the donuts but also got the nachos and upton dog. The nachos were phenomenal especially the protein and that cheese sauce. The hot dog weren’t that great the bread was a bit hard and the dog was a bit mushier but flavor was good. I’m not much of a cake donut fan (yeast donuts are the best) but these were yummy! We liked the For Greta and Eclair ones best

Great Vegan place, food is excellent the staff is always friendly and helpful, not many tables but somehow whenever I go I don’t feel crowded. The summertime is even better -outdoor tables. Try they daily specials always good. As a Lyft driver I’m always suggesting that as a top 5 places (if not the best)for vegan or who is interested in such places, usually I’m going there when I’m not working because I want to enjoy the food ( FYI it’s not your regular fast food joint)

Friendly service and helpful cashier/chef. Low key atmosphere with some great options for vegan snacks. Delicious bacon Mac and cheese made with seitan meat. It smelled just like real bacon and tasted like it too. Vegan donut was scrumptious and organic apple juice was refreshing too. I was disappointed with the uptown dog…it was super salty so it wasn’t easy to consume. However, the friendly service and delicious snacks made up for it.

Grab a meal, get a donut, and enjoy the arcade pop up, you won't regret! Street parking is quite easy, and they have now indoor seating too.

Yesterday, I went for the first time to this restaurant and the place looks great. My friend is Vegan, I’m not, but I’ve ate vegan food before. Super tasty! I ordered the bacon mac and it was over burned, giving a horrible taste to the food. I’m not sure, if this vegan restaurant serves the food without salt and pepper at all, but the rice and beans, the vegan sausage Had NO flavor at all. My friend agreed the food was terrible. To end this, there was a Latino person ordering some food, and yes his language was a bit bad but understandable, but the 2 ladies at the front, as soon as He left, they started to laugh and say horrible jokes about the way he talk, and the way he was ordering food. It was very disturbing to be there.

The vegan donuts here are amazing!!! It was our first time here and I am so impressed. I didn’t realize they also have food here, will definitely try the food menu next time. We tried 3 different donuts (resistance, balaclava, and for greta) and each one was delicious! The flavors were spot on and the donuts were not super sweet. My favorite donut was for greta, so so good! So happy to have found this place for when the sweet tooth hits!

Love love love Upton's! Their employee meal special pepper and egg sandwich is out of this world!

  • 5/5 Christopher P. 2 years ago on Google
I love Upton's. They have probably the most consistently delicious vegan food in the city of Chicago. No joke. For a no frills kitchen side grill, they absolutely bang out some amazing food. If you haven't gone, what are you waiting for?

I super love the grill Mac& cheese , I tried the vegan Italian beef sandwich i love the meat but not the bread , I strongly suggest you try this little gem

Tried the Korean tacos, ice cream, and a donut. All very tasty and the cookie in the ice cream was super dispersed throughout and delicious!

  • 5/5 Jennifer R. 3 years ago on Google
This place was great! I had the Saturday special of the tacos and they were so delicious! It was so flavorful and filling. I would recommend to get the nachos to as they serve you ALOT and you can probably share with another friend! Definitely worth all my money! I can't wait to order from here again it has become one of my favorite vegan spots!

They have vegan croissants! I got the breakfast croissant sandwich and cheesy broccoli, both were great. My coworker got the bacon ranch cheeseburger which they enjoyed

Blown away. Been vegan for over 4 years and this is some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had. Will be coming back every time I’m in Chicago!!

Amazing flavors and really FUN vegan options. I wish I lived nearby because I would go every week. I don’t eat vegan but I love stuff like this. The Bacon Mac blew me away, so good!

  • 5/5 Eugene P. 3 years ago on Google
The best vegan fast food joint in Chicago, by far! I highly recommend their vegan mac and cheese, nachos, and the Italian sub. Ice cream sundae is great too. They have a soft serve machine and some good toppings.

  • 5/5 Alex O. 1 year ago on Google
Best seitan I've ever had, by far! I got the gochujang bowl, and was very happy with the amount of food for the price. All the veggies were fresh, and the rice perfectly cooked. The staff were polite and communicative.

  • 5/5 Albert P. 1 year ago on Google
Everything about their food is perfect. The donuts specifically. They never make the donuts too sweet, always the perfect balance of slightly sweet but also fruity and tangy flavors. They also have a huge variety of delicious donuts to choose from, so you’ll always have new flavors to try. Their staff are very helpful and will answer any of your questions. The fact that everything there is vegan makes it even better, as it is very difficult to find good vegan food. Liberation Kitchen has, without a doubt, the best donuts that have ever graced my mouth.

  • 5/5 Brian H. 2 years ago on Google
I really liked the taste of these donuts. It’s a little cakey but not too much and they are super soft. Great flavors too. I had the cousin Frida which has cookie dough on top. Also it’s all Vegan miraculously and delicious.

Best vegan food in chicago hands down. I wish I could franchise this place.

  • 5/5 AiCi L. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing vegan (nut free) donuts! My son has dairy and nut allergies and we are so excited to finally find a donut he can eat. It is hands down the yummiest donuts and blows away even regular donuts too. We get the apple cider (the discipline) and the plain cake and OMG. If you like cake donuts these are great. The glazed is a little sweet for me, but w a coffee and tea, I’m sure it’s nice.

  • 5/5 Alia A. 1 year ago on Google
I love this little place. They have lactose free soft serve they I could try and it was AMAZING! Their Mac and Cheese is out of this world. The employees were all sweet, outgoing and very attentive. I can’t wait to come back.

Had this in a place to visit for a while and couldn’t believe I found it just when I needed to see it! The space is filled with several vegan staples from ice cream to candy to donuts to yummy snack food choices! Got the mint oat milk ice cream this time. Will definitely be back to try the food!

I hope Pie 🥧 Pie My Darling keeps selling her cakes. Otherwise, I'm only going to be able to visit her when I'm up north ⬆️. She is selling out and it doesn't look like she'll be 🔙 in stock at some of these other vegan 😁💎 🤲 shops. That's just my observation though. I could be wrong. Anyway, I love ❤️ the 🥑🥝

We moved out of chicago a year ago and I miss this place. The togarashi bowl on their menu is excellent. I am not a big fan of faux meats. Even though thats what uptons does primarily, their togarashi bowl keeps me coming back here. That and their vegan soft serve icecream. Every component of the togarashi bowl is so tasty, even my 2 year old used to love it. Highly recommend.

some of the worst vegan food i’ve ever had. i’ve been vegan and meat free for 10 years, this was nasty! i’m not one to waste food, but i threw half of it away. the bread was so wet and soggy and the mac and cheese tasted like vinegar. keep in mind i ate all of this on the spot, its not like it was sitting in my bag for an hour. you can litterally make vegan mac sauce from potatoes and carrots and its delicious, this was not eatable at all

  • 3/5 arise07 5 months ago on Google
Heard a lot about this place. Honestly felt overpriced and mid. I got the Mac and cheese, donut, and a sausage roll. The donut was great, and the food came hot and fresh, but it just didn’t hit right for me. Max and cheese felt too salty, sausage roll was decent. Nothing I would go crazy for.

I can truly say I love this place! Upon entering there’s a warm welcome from the team. They’re happy to have me come in. I have tasted a fair amount of the food on their menu and it’s very fulfilling and satisfying. The nacho plate, bacon Mac and donuts are delicious. The flavors are there! Never disappointed. Always happy to support them. - Breezy

I really love this place, but this is truly a time where basic common courtesy is something lacking for most establishments, so in the future a hello how are you in general should be met with fine how are you at the very least not...how can I help you. I guess I will be hungry until I get home because I refuse to spend where people are not pleasant.

Stopped in to get some hot dogs. My GF went vegan not long ago, and has been missing a killer Chicago style hot dog and this really hit the spot The Liberation donuts are incredible too During C19 it is to-go only, but you can order ahead for pickup Heavily recommended

5 star nachos -- the mac and cheese is not for me, but my friend loves it. It's nice that the menu's switches up giving you new options every now and then. Always a solid choice when wanting vegan options.

This food will blow you away! My personal favorite is the Italian beef with cheese, onion and giardiniera! Also the bacon ranch burger! Chef's kiss!!! Must try plus the stuff here is so awesome. Always making us feel welcomed. Even though i can not see their face because of the face masks I know they are always smiling behind it 😷

The apple soft serve today tasted like metal and was a grayish tinge, I felt bad throwing away a 5+ dollar ice cream but it didn’t taste good or like it was good for me.

  • 5/5 Sharena D. 3 years ago on Google
Fantasic food and friendly people. We got the burgers and banh mi our first visit there and they were great. The burger especially was amazing! If you're wanting to indulge your sweet tooth, the donuts are deliciously decadent with enough the variety in flavors to please everyone in a big group. But the true gems are the milkshakes! It's difficult finding vegan shakes that actually taste like a shake.

Lovely food, friendly staff, creative menu, and very chicago-aesthetic all-around. Definitley one of the better vegan spots in the city. That said, stepping inside even just to order is a bit of a heat nightmare! Warning to elderly people, people with disabilities, pregnant and nursing people, it's hotter than the leather on a school bus in the middle of july! Really need to get that figured out! I feel for the staff, like... how are ya'll breathing?!!!? Other than the heat of hell, the food is absolutely delicious

  • 5/5 Wesley M. 3 years ago on Google
Great vegan food and very friendly staff! Every time I go, I order one of their sandwiches! My favorites are the Banh Mi and the Bacon Ranch Cheeseburger. You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu!

The Chicago was so good. It’s definitely a comfort food sandwich. I could not eat all of the seitan like others have commented, but I’d rather have more than less. Also their soy cones are BOGO right now (maybe just during quarantine?). Also delicious.
