I really enjoyed the food and ambience in this restaurant! The vibes inside are chill— it’s spacious and nicely decorated, good for groups both large and small. Service is quick and the staff are very friendly. The lunch and dinner combos are the same portion size, but dinner is $1 more. The portions are large, and the variety of spring rolls, salad, entree, and rice makes it worth it. I got the Praram’s Plate Combo with Soy Chicken. The soy chicken was good, but I think I generally prefer the texture of soy beef more. Still, it was very tender with a meat-like texture, and the peanut sauce was creamy and flavorful (the highlight of the dish, for sure). The spinach added fresh flavor and color. The purple rice was a little hard, but tasted good. The egg rolls were crispy and piping hot. The prices are not low, but they’re pretty standard compared to similar vegan Thai restaurants in Chicago. The menu is also pretty similar to some of the other nearby vegan Thai restaurants, but the options are nonetheless diverse and expansive, and I’m looking forward to trying more items on the menu with different protein types too! — Price (relative to peers): 4/5 Food: 4.5/5 Ambience: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5

My wife tries to avoid meat whenever she can. She recommended this place that I’ve tried to not look at the past 352763273672 times I’ve driven passed it. I reluctantly agreed, assuming in my head I was going to be disappointed. I WAS WRONG. SO WRONG. The service was prompt and pleasant. The windows made the restaurant really bright, but still a cozy dining experience. I had the Thai Basil with soy Chicken protein (and fries because…. Well… they looked and smelled delicious). My wife got one of the curry plates with soy chicken as well. It was delicious. It’s sparked a curiosity in me. DEFINITELY coming back and recommend everyone looking into this place to come down and give it a shot.

Me and my partner have come here a couple of times. We always order the same thing, so this time my partner decided to try something new “prarams plate” to be completely honest, it wasn’t what we’re were expecting at all. The peanut sauce was too thick and tasted like straight up peanut butter. So, we kindly asked our server if we could please have it taken out of our bill since we weren’t going to eat it. We were planning to swap it out and pay the difference( if any) for a different dish. However, she informed us that we would still have to pay for the dish even though we didn’t eat it… We didn’t order anything else because it honestly ruined our entire experience. I think it’s ridiculous to have to pay for something that you couldn’t/ didn’t even eat. It’s really disappointing because we love to support vegan businesses but this was not it. I’m the end it just goes to show that they care more about making money than a costumers experience.

My friend is vegan, so I did some research and found this place to meet up for a lunch. You can easily spot it from the street. Parking is on the street as well as in front of the restaurant where is “Pay to park”. Server was pleasant and knowledgeable, she recommended few dishes which were absolutely delicious! Flavors and presentation of the food was really incredible! I am not vegan, however trying this place for the first time I must say that I am impressed and I would definitely recommend it to anyone to try it!

Everything was amazing. The soy chicken was on point. The orange chicken regained its crispy texture despite the sauce and the portions were very large. Large enough that we filled up a take out box and it didn’t look like we’d had a single bite of it. A lot of food for the price. Nice servers. Quick service and tasty food. Drinks at a cheaper price than most Chicago restaurants too. 10:10

I have passed urban vegan many times when I have been driving around. Have to say this small local restraunt is a hidden gem! Let me get into it! The food here is beyond amazing. I order the freshy roll and they were very fresh and every bite made me want more. The orange chicken is the best orange chicken I have ever had any where. If I could have this dish every day I would. The pad Thai reminded me of when I had it while I was vacationing in Thailand! The service was all star level. The waitress that served me walked me around the menu and filled my water when she saw it was low. Hard to find places where waitresses are that attentive. The atmosphere or ambiance like I like to call it, perfect. The natural light from the outside and the decor and music that placed really was pleasant. Overall, I will say give urban vegan a try. The experience will want to keep you coming back as the food and service speak for themself!

Nice thai flavors, love the panang curry and impossible basil over rice....... a little pricey, but feeds for another day or 2. Unfortunately, rude male cashier on occasion.

When I went vegan a few years ago I was worried I wouldn’t be able to enjoy good Thai food anymore, boy did this place prove me wrong. Vegan or not, their Thai food is delicious. Fresh, flavorful, and generous portion sizes. I could eat their green or red curry on the DAILY. I usually shy away from vegan chicken but theirs is super delicious, and my sister who eats meat got their “shrimp” and really enjoyed it. They have an awesome lunch AND dinner special which comes with delicious spring rolls and a side salad with this amazing tangy ranch-y dressing (that I wish I could buy by the bottle). Anyway, if you’re reading this- just go here. You won’t regret

The BEST Thai food I’ve ever had. Everything on the menu is 100% vegan…including 5 types of protein. Large portions, even for lunch. Courteous waitstaff. Can’t wait to come back.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Don't be fooled by the modest size of the place, the abundant options and the generous servings, on top of the creative arrangement of their tasty dishes, impressed me enough to say "I'll be back!" Thumbs up to the person in charge in the Kitchen, very professional. Well done, guys and keep up the good work! I must remind you, I am quite fuzzy when it comes to food, my friends know that, however, no ifs, or buts this time!

Horrible service. We placed a $63.00 (not cheap for this type of food) we picked it up and brought home, we noticed the Spicy Noodles were missing. I called to advise since this can happen. He spoke with a female manager if sorts or the person that put my order together and said they did add the Noodles to the order but if I was saying that I didn’t have it then they would have to believe me. In other words, I was a liar!! Totally shocked about his inappropriate and unprofessional response. I will NEVER order from this place again. Besides, the food is not that great to begin with. Definitely NOT worth the $63.00 for Orange Chicken & Rice!!!

Best Thai food in Chicago. The fact that it’s vegan is just a cherry on top of otherwise amazing food. We go here about once a week and love it. They like for you to order on their app so that Uber/grubhub/etc doesn’t take a huge cut of revenue. Highly recommend.

We've been coming to this great restaurant since it opened and always have tasty food. The photos were taken in 2019 but show Panang Curry with vegetables which is my go to! The meal is just as good take out as eat in. The staff is welcoming and kind. My family is also not vegan but we like everything we get here.

Mind blowing vegan Asian cuisine with really creative and unique flavors, textures, and protein options. Love this place, despite it being on the pricier end. Strongly recommend even for the meat eaters out there - I have friends who swear by the orange chicken, even over the traditional dead flesh option served at most American Chinese restaurants.

Having to eat a quick meal I was impressed with how attentive and quick the staff helped. The biggest problem I had was deciding on which dish to get as they many options on the menu. I went with the sweet and sour chicken which had a fresh taste, and it also did not weigh me down. The portion size was very big.

I loved them, they were my go to, I was a customer for YEARS, until I started getting hair in my food with the orders. The past three consecutive times I’ve ordered I have had hair in my food. Before that it has only happened a few times and they were okay about it, they would only refund the dish that had the hair, never a full refund ( which I honestly think they should have done). The past two times out of the three I just didn’t even call them bc the 1st time out of the three consecutive they gave me a hard time about it. I have medium length curly hair and the hair that has been in my food has always been a long straight black hair. I’ve given up on them, I can’t deal with it anymore. And I can’t recommend that you eat here bc they do not take sanitation seriously or your food quality.

Good food…great menu options and amazing fast service. We ordered dumplings, spicy fried rice, basil stir fry and spring rolls. My only quam is that everything is on very sweet note- thai is generally spicy, tangy too in taste. Overall good place and plenty parking options available to park on street ( metered parking). Very friendly staff and superbfast service.

GREATEST THAI VEGAN food I have ever had! Love LOVE love the jungle noodles! Yum! Also tried few different things there. This time it was orange soy chicken with brown rice. So yummy! My friend got rice shell pasta curry, it was spicy for me but if you eat spice regularly you will be fine, it isn't bad at all. Absolutely worth a TRY! Absolutely recommend this for all Vegans and fellow Vegetarians!!!

Incredible food with kind staff. I could eat here every day of my life and never get bored, super diverse menu and everything I've tried has been delicious. INCREDIBLY generous portions, especially when you dine in. Pictured are the impossible basil stir fry, and the spicy fried rice with tofu.

Some of the food here is better than at regular Thai restaurants and I have no idea how they do it. We're not even vegetarian and my husband and I make sure to hit up this place often. My first dish here was the crispy spicy tofu salad, and it was so tangy, spicy, and chewy that I order it nearly every time I go. Other standouts include the green curry (somewhat sweet), the amazing impossible basil beef, and the asparagus in garlic sauce (sadly not available all the time). I like the "chicken" or seitan best. The pepper beef tastes a little too fake for my taste but everyone has their preferences on meat substitutes. The miso soup is bland; stick to the Thai side of the menu for the best flavors.

Nice place to go and grab a vegan bite! Staff is very friendly and on top of their game. My picture is of the Veggie Burger with fries. The patty was made of beans but they have a variety of others. Also 10% off if you pay in cash, and the ginger ale is bomb too!

What a delightful surprise. I have driven past Urban Vegan many times and wondered how it was. However as a man who loves meat I never ventured in. My wife and I were invited to dinner by some friends and this is the restaurant the choose and I'm grateful. I had the impossible basil over rice and it was fantastic. I love beef basil and this was a good as any I've had before. The flavor was amazing and the consistency of the impossible meat was the same as real ground beef. I look forward to dining here again in the future and seeing what other meatless magic they can perform.

The food and service here is amazing. I deviated from my usual yellow curry and got Pad Thai. I'm so glad I did. It was delicious and the portion was big enough to have leftovers the next day. They serve great vegan food that would even appeal to meat eaters.

Urban Vegan is one of my very favorite restaurants in Chicago! Over the years, I have loved every soup, entree, app, etc. Today I had the Impossoble meat with Jasmine rice made spicy plus a thai iced coffee. Everything was perfect as always and flavors that make my taste buds happy. Whether you are vegan or not, try this place! You will never be disappointed!

Vegetarian Paradise! For vegetarians/vegans looking for some spicy, tasty Thai food, this is just the perfect place! They have a lot to offer on the menu. All Thai with proteins from veggies, tofu to soy chicken steak etc. Might not be the most affordable place considering the portions. But worth a visit once in a while for it's all vegan and tasty! Uber friendly staff and you also get a 10% off when you pay with cash.

Generally speaking, the food is very good when made correctly. The service varies. I called to discuss a concern I had with my order and asked to speak with a manager. The kitchen had screwed up my order twice in a row and had made the same mistake both times. I was told the manager wasn't there and that I could call back anytime to speak with her; the woman with whom I spoke refused to give me the name of the manager or a good time/day to call. She also refused to tell me her name though I asked three times.

Ordered my food for pickup and got there 20 minutes later thinking it was ready because that was the estimated time. Sat in the restaurant for 45 minutes and still nothing. I finally went up to see if my food was ready and they had put it on the counter 5 minutes prior but didn't bother to tell me it was ready. The receipt said it was ready for pickup 20 minutes after the order time but I didn't get it until 1 hour and 7 minutes later. No one gave me any updates as to the progress of the food. All I ordered was two entrees and an appetizer. Even with the late update from Grubhub saying the food will be ready 45 minutes after my order time, I still didn't get it until 17 minutes after that. This was beyond ridiculous. There are way too many other places offering the same food. That was my first time ordering pickup from here and I'm never coming back.

The chickpea frittata was amazing! It does take a while to actually get served your dish but it's worth it! Deff add guacamole on the side to smear on top (it makes the meal). Minus a star because service was just a little too slow and didn't give any birthday treat.

Vegan or non-vegan, you can certainly enjoy the offerings here at this popular and seemingly always near-packed restaurant. The faux-sushi appears quite tasty, but the curry is really something to try. It has a great kick as with many Japanese curries, and for the price you pay it's pretty darn competitive with more expensive but not any better places.

While Urban Vegan provides a large plant based menu for people struggling to find edible options in uptown Chicago, I do not think that their food is that great. I think that for the price, you could buy the same ingredients (from Whole Foods or somewhere) and make it yourself. The flavor is not that deep and I think it’s giving vegan food a bad name. However, they do have a huge menu and their name gives a clear expectation and salience for people looking for familiar vegan food.

Great vegan cousin! The place is pretty good, to be honest we were torn between coming here or not, but finally we entered and the food was excellent. Food: the food was delicious and tasty and the best all options are all vegan. The service was very fast and good. Customer service: our server was nice. We order ✅ Veggie Miso soup ✅Chow mean ( Soy fish)

Love the fact that it was Thai food and completely vegan, but the heat levels of the dishes is debatable. Everything had a sweet syrupy after taste. Didn't realize she this part. Dishes that are supposed to be hot should not have been sweet. Hence the 3 stars. Sorry. Can improve on the taste of the food.

This is one of my FAVORITE spots in the city! I’ve probably been 50+ times over the years, and they never disappoint!! They’re always friendly, speedy, and the food is always hot and delicious! I love Thai cuisine, and when I became a vegetarian I missed having lots of options at Thai places, and with Urban Vegan, I can order anything and it’s always amazing. Love them and would recommend to anyone—carnivore, vegan, or in-between!

I have known about this place for more than a year now and I’m glad I found it. The food is always good and the employees are nice. I always look forward to get food here when I get the chance. My favorite is the spicy bok choy and the taro pearls, My moms favorite is the pad Thai with soy chicken. ☺️

Overall, it was a delicious experience and one that I will definitely going back again for. I love places that allow me to order everything on the menu and feel like I’m still getting authentic dish. The dumplings were tasty and the entrees were all sizable and made well. The only minor complaint that I had was that I didn’t love the rice that came on the side, but outside of that... no complaints. Easy location to get to with street parking in the area. The prices are also pretty fair, so you don’t feel like you overpaid. If you like Thai food and enjoy eating meat-substitutes... this is a definite place to go!

The food here is incredibly good. My friend and I shared 2 appetizers and 2 entrees planning to have leftovers to bring home. We couldn't decide which dish we liked best, everything was phenomenal. I can't wait a it to go back.

Very cute spot. Nice friendly staff and there were 3 other parties dining within the hour or so before closing. Saw a couple of people come in to pick up orders as well. I tried the yellow curry and it had sweet potatoes instead of regular - a nice change! There is a slight sweetness to the vegan chicken substitute which did not taste like anything I'd had before - possibly made in-house? My companion and I enjoyed it in our dishes and would like to try more of the meat sub options next time we're in the area!

Have been here many a times Servers except one are very unfriendly and never a smile. And this one waitress, in particular is very unfriendly and very discriminatory If you are not Caucasian looking and even if you are there before anyone else she will heed and give attention to the Caucasian w a smile. Today was the limit On a hot day without even asking she brings out 2 glasses of room temp water, and the other table who entered after us gets nice ice cold water When we ask her to get us cold water she brings a glass of ice and leaves it on our table ..... literally just leaves it... And we are supposed to put that ice in glass full of water ourselves.... Not only that she doesn't even ask us if we are ready for our order just goes to the other table and gets their order and even served their drinks but didn't ask us and not that it was busy.... Just 2 tables and another waitress was just hanging out. If u expect good service and you are any other ethnic decent forget it
