Beautiful church, the community is welcoming, the choir is talented, but it feels like the main attraction is the concert and not the Eucharist. Few people genuflect while entering pews or in front of the Blessed Sacrament. The congregation doesn't kneel during the consecration. They recently had two gay men say the homily on Fathers Day (also was Corpus Christi) to promote progressive agenda instead of focus on scripture. Mostly everyone receives the Eucharist and I’m assuming not many go to Reconciliation since it’s not emphasized and not held often. At a retreat, a priest gave the Eucharist to everyone even if they weren’t Catholic. I’ve attended RCIA meetings where leadership knowingly contradicted church teachings. They attempt to be inclusive of everyone, but seem to leave out reverence to the Lord. I think if one thing could make a difference it would be the treatment of the Eucharist.

My post keeps being taken down due to the "hate " I'm receiving for speaking the truth. DO NOT let your children come to this church. They are going against Church teaching and the natural law. This church is for Catholics not a church of "make up your own good news". You can go to a local denomination for that😐

This is the most welcoming parish I've ever attended. I went for the 10am mass. Some of the people recognized that I was a visitor because a huge suitcase I dragged with me (I came straight from the train station). They were happy to see me and wished me well. The choir members should be touring the country and abroad because they are absolutely amazing. 🤩 After mass, a young man helped me to carry my Suitcase down the stairs. I am super grateful. May God bless every single member of this parish and meet them at the point of their needs. Amen.

The most beautiful Catholic Church in Chicago. We went for a funeral and the priest did a lovely job. We have now been to both a wedding and funeral here and the interior painting and statue of St. Patrick make this a very special place. It’s also the closest to the train station so if you want to see a lovely piece of Catholic history stop here.

A beautiful Catholic church with a beautiful message that should be on all Christian churches: all people are welcome. Step inside and enjoy the peaceful, gorgeous interior!

We stumbled into a great community, service and church. The painted walls add to the historicalness of the church and community. The sign says, "All are welcomed" and they did a very good job if keeping their word. Get to mass early it fills up fast.

Chicago's oldest extant house of faith. Excellent example of what serious preservation can do for a building. Irish Roman Catholic church. Built 1854. Survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871! The interior was remodeled in 1996. The stenciling and color palate that is seen now closely follows the original designs from 1922, which had been too damaged to retain. The original stained glass/art glass windows are from 1922, by artist Thomas O'Shaughnessy. An important Chicago landmark.

this is a long review so you can skip it. Great music and good homilies. However even though this is a catholic church, it does not seem so. The congregation of this church pushes political groups and their respective agendas. it no longer becomes about the connection between your Qualia and God, but, it becomes about the inclusivity of trendy groups, that are very polarizing. Polarization removes the meditation factor. The reason why I state it does not seem like the Catholic church is because there is a confusion between acceptance of one person and the inclusivity of groups and their propaganda, that are not included in this Christian denomination. Those propaganda groups are accepted in similar traditional Christian denominations. Exclusion is what defines something.

Please like 👍 my review! I was visiting Chicago for the first time and wanted to attend a Sunday Mass service where I felt at home with God and the community. Old St. Patrick's Catholic Church delivered that ... and more! The liturgy, music, and the community were outstanding. My only regret, not living in Chicago to attend Old St. Patrick's Catholic Church more often. I would highly recommend Old St. Patrick's Catholic Church to my friends, family, and visitors to appreciate this lovely parish community.

I could not tell if the Jesuit priest at this mass was a regular at this church. There were no altar servers, no procession at the start of mass, and he treated the music ministry like entertainers. I did not like that this group of 20- and 30-somethings did not dress like they're at mass. All wore jeans and leggings. And what's with the made-up lyrics and tunes to the common hymns? They were unrecognizable. Being an historic church I would've liked to see a high altar. There is no organ or Tabernacle visible anywhere. Where is the reverence towards God here? It's sad to see churches like this evolve into protestant like services.

The architecture is really beautiful and it is in a really good condition considering it is built in 1846

Incredible, awe inspiring mass with the most amazing music & sermons. Almost moved to Chicago just to be close to this church. Anytime we are close we visit. Friendly people too.

It was a very nice venue. I've been there before for other events. This time it was a wedding reception. It's an old wharehouse, repurposed. You park, in the rear, enter in the rear, go tour floor in a freight elevator, there was a bar in the elevator. The hall was large, windows all around, with beautiful views of Chicago. A great time was had by all.
