Very
old

Chandanpura
Jame
Masjid
in
Chawkbazar:
A
monument
to
150
years
of
tradition
and
aesthetics
Chandanpura
Jame
Masjid
is
located
on
Siraj-ud-Daula
Road
in
Chawkbazar
Ward
of
Chittagong
city,
which
is
the
gateway
to
Islam.
Full
name
Hamidiya
Taj
Masjid.
It
has
many
other
names.
Among
them,
Siraj-ud-Daula
Mosque,
Chandanpura
Big
Mosque,
Tara
Mosque
etc.
are
notable.
From
the
towering
minarets,
walls,
doors
and
windows
of
the
mosque,
everything
is
beautifully
crafted.
The
largest
dome
of
the
Mughal
style
mosque
is
made
of
13
maunds
of
silver
and
brass.
Around
the
dome
are
written
the
names
of
the
10
Companions
who
received
the
good
news
of
Paradise
in
the
world
along
with
the
Messenger
of
Allah.
Due
to
the
wide
recognition
of
the
iconic
mosque,
tourists
from
home
and
abroad
come
to
visit
this
mosque.
They
were
amazed
by
the
construction
style.
Around
the
mosque
is
like
a
fair
of
colors.
Every
color
is
used
in
every
part
of
the
installation.
The
beauty
of
vine-leaf
designs
and
various
crafts
have
been
brought
out
by
skillful
hands.
The
external
beauty
of
the
mosque
can
be
seen
from
far
away.
On
the
western
side
of
Siraj-ud-Daula
Road,
Abdul
Hamid
Master
established
a
mosque
with
mud
and
lime
surki
walls
and
tin
roof
in
1870
on
the
pattern
of
Mughal
construction
art.
Even
then
the
mud
walls
were
full
of
crafts.
His
descendant
Abu
Syed
Dubhash,
a
contractor
of
the
British
government,
helped
in
the
renovation
of
this
mosque
in
1946.
Craftsmen
and
building
materials
for
the
mosque
were
brought
from
India.
It
cost
more
than
five
lakh
rupees
at
that
time.
The
surrounding
walls
are
ventilation
systems.
The
light
is
coming
in
through
the
gap
in
the
wall.
The
inside
is
sparkling
with
a
fountain
of
light,
there
is
a
gentle
breeze.
Abu
Syed
Dobash
built
a
mosque
in
the
same
design
at
his
father-in-law's
house
in
Kotwali
Mor
area
of
the
city.
But
it
was
smaller
than
this
mosque.
To
many,
this
mosque
is
also
known
as
Chandanpura
Bara
Mosque
or
Taj
Mosque.
Now
the
mosque
is
150
years
old.
The
picture
of
the
mosque
is
used
in
various
publications
of
the
country
and
abroad
to
highlight
the
identity
of
Chittagong's
tourism
industry.
Because
of
the
pictures
of
this
mosque
in
the
publications,
tourists
from
abroad
also
come
here.
At
that
time,
Abu
Syed
Dobhas
built
the
two-storied
mosque
on
the
13th
century
site
by
bringing
materials
from
different
places
including
Kolkata
and
Delhi.
The
mosque
has
15
small
and
big
domes.
There
are
stairs
leading
to
each
dome.
Mughal
architecture
is
reflected
in
the
domes
and
stairs.
Around
the
dome
are
the
names
of
10
companions
who
received
the
good
news
of
Paradise.
When
there
was
no
use
of
the
microphone,
the
call
to
prayer
was
given
from
a
minaret
as
high
as
4
stories.
2
such
minars
still
exist.
