Went here for the first time & I will not go back. Our (black) friend was told he was not allowed in because he had a plaid shirt on. We looked inside & saw a handful of people wearing plaid flannels & our friend was in a Ralph Lauren dress shirt. The bouncer kept stating he doesn't make the rules but we kept arguing until he let him in. After we got in, we asked the head of security why they have a rule about plaid & he said they didn't. I will not support a place like this.

Definitely not a black friendly establishment. I've been to this place multiple times with straight hair and had no problem getting in due to my dress code (specifically ripped jeans). Apparently, however, there is a dress code policy that does not allow ripped jeans. I was never made aware of this until my hair was in it's natural state (an afro). Will never come back here.

This is a racist establishment! Also, ordering drinks can be chaotic. The bar tenders will serve their friends first even though you've been waiting longer then them.

Drink specials are amazing!! Get in early and you'll be paying a few bucks for top shelf drinks. Fast and friendly staff. Open minded atmosphere. My favorite club in metro Detroit! Edit: I'm going to say something me and my friends agree on. Time and time again we try different clubs around Detroit, Royal Oak and Ann Arbor. Everytime we agree, we'd be having more fun at Orchid.Saturday nights are the best!

friend DJ's for Orchid and had one of our friends who is black sitting next to him in the DJ booth. Was told by the manager Rikki that she couldn't sit in the booth even though the night before he had a few white girls sitting with him and didn't say anything. i also requested a song to a different DJ, and was told they wouldn't play it because they're "trying to keep the hood out"

After hearing about all the racism that goes on I will never ever give my money or time of day to a place like this.

I will never go to this place again. Apparently when you get stamped after getting in that means nothing. No matter how cold, or how long the line is they make you get back in line. Instead of telling you that up front, they wait until you go outside, and then don't let you come back in, despite the fact that you reserved and have a stamp. Completely ruined my night.

How is it we was there Friday and got in no problem, but yesterday it was a issue with my friend shirt? We're​ there EVERY Saturday and never had a problem. Tried to talk to the manager he act like he was too good to stop texting. So we ended up going to Luna in Royal oak. 89.7 was there, had a awesome time.

Good variety of music that is easy to dance to. The creep factor is relatively low compared to many other local night clubs. Drinks are reasonably priced and you never have to wait long to get them. There's a large outdoor patio to smoke or simply cool off away from the crowd. It's located in a good spot where you can walk to nearby restaurants or bars if that's where the night should take you.

I went here last weekend with my friends. First off, the drinks are well priced and the bartenders are awesome. They also play some great music. However, we had an incident where my friends and I were dancing on the raised platform. The security guards yelled at my friend to then leave then platform. When we inquired as to why, the security guard said that it was "for women only. No men allowed up there." My friend is non-binary, so that didn't apply at all. They still made them get off. It is questionable that they would only want women up there. Seems like they only want women, so they can be objectified and put on display. We were dancing to Taylor Swift for gods sakes. Not queer friendly and especially shady towards women. Will not be coming back!

A group of us were here for my friends birthday. Per previous reviews there was no issues with the security guards. The actual place looks really nice inside and the outside patio looks very spacious and nice. The drinks were most definitely watered down but maybe it was done purposely due to drink specials and to force you to buy more. My friend requested music from the DJ and the response was racist and the song was never played. I enjoyed it due to my friends birthday however this is not a place I’d return to or recommend ever.

Quite the amazing dance spot! Epic dance floor with great dj’s on Friday’s and Saturday! The bass feels amazing! Drinks seem legit! Overal awesome experience!

this is the best nightclub in metro Detroit hands down. I've been a regular since 2016. good drinks, great crowd, no drama, no fights ever, centrally located, not to crowded. I love this place, I would give it 10 stars if I could. oh and great mix of music. Message on Facebook for a table reservation. I can't say enough good things. just go and experience it yourself.

First time here and this place is great if you like paying a $5 cover to watch a bunch of trashy people getting into fights. And being harassed by bums after while waiting for a ride. Will not be back. 1/10 would not recommend.

I seen multiple comments about the place being racist, but my experience here was great. I went by myself, (black female) and everyone was very polite to me. The bouncer was black, and he was a sweet man. The bartender that floats around the club gave me no attitude, and she was helpful. No problems from the DJ, his music is very diverse. Surprised they played Cardi B. It was a good night, ALTHOUGH there were too many single men that were a bit too touchy touchy. Maybe someone needs to stroll around the club to monitor.

I been here a couple of times. The place is very nice and clean so far so good.It's a great place to go for a party with friends and the drinks were good also the DJ played good old & new music .I have no problem coming back to this place. I read some of the reviews that they were racist there? I didn't experience or see that to someone at all. I've seen Black,White, Asian & more. I mean I'm a foreigner and they welcome everyone there unless you do stupid stuff .They asked my ID that's totally normal for me.They even guide me in and opened the door for me to get in my car. They literally gave my CC to a stranger they kicked out. I have no idea how you screw up that badly when dealing with a person you’re having to physically remove from a bar. Absolutely abhorrent management here. After showing apprehension to give my card over to start my tab (which is such an outdated practice to physically give a card), the bartender literally stated, “Your card is in good hands”. Everyone’s entitled to act stupid every once and awhile, but this staff really abuses the privilege.

Racist place with clear discriminatory actions towards black men. Was disrespected and talked down to by bouncers and door staff and then it was acknowledged that I was intentionally being treated differently by a bouncer and female friend was told she was “probably right” that things would have been different if I were white. This place sucks.

I haven't been to Orchid in about 4 years. They changed the floor which is awesome. I love the outside patio. Music was good and the crowd was coming in. I met some friends there and had a good time.

I love Orchid! It’s a fun vibe. All the staff are so nice and professional. The music slaps. The crowd is very diverse and I’ve seen every demographic get down on the dance floor. Their booths are great for a special occasion or just to have a more intimate experience. I definitely recommend Orchid for a night out.

Waited in line for 30 mins on NYE and when we finally got inside we were repaid w/ Maroon 5 playing. Lol. The music didn’t any better. I felt like I was listening to a wedding DJ that had given up on updating music in 2010. No N/A options. Had a Shirley Temple. You’d think with all the n/a beers and liquor substitutes there would be a n/a menu esp on NYE as folks would want a designated driver. The staff all were very nice. The place looked really nice and the crowd was friendly as hell. Just wish the music was better than a radio station on their Friday night mix. We came to dance and Maroon 5, Alan Thicke, Justin Timberlake, and Nelly Furtado…. ain’t gunna move me.

My friend and I went when they had a Halloween costume contest. He was dressed as “female Shaggy” from the Scooby-Doo 2 movie. The bouncer made a fuss about his costume, refusing to let him on the stage while others were allowed. He then commented on a different friend of ours being attractive, but she was hanging out with a man who had “titties”. Very unprofessional and ignorant. Go to Soho instead- they’re much more accepting!

My favorite bar EVER. I complain if I go anywhere else and never have fun. The long islands are on point every time and they’re only $5 a piece! It is never a rowdy or uncomfortable place to be. I absolutely love the outdoor patio with fireplaces. I go almost every weekend and everyone I bring loves it just as much. This place has my heart!

Hands down the best night club in all of Ferndale and metro Detroit! Anytime I’m looking to have a good time and head for a night out of dancing with friends, Orchid is our top place to go! The vibe is always fun, the music is great and the crowd is always filled with people who are there to genuinely enjoy themselves. The entire staff and bartenders are awesome and extremely friendly and fun. Super well priced drinks too! To top it all off, I ended up leaving my jacket one night and they made it work to meet me on a non operating day to give it back to me. They seriously rock, highly recommend!

I absolutely loved my experience at this establishment last night! To start the security was absolutely amazing, they were all very nice guys and quick to solve problems! (Shout out to Travis, good luck with your upcoming nuptials!!!) Next the coach check ladies, super nice and sweet, remembered my coat and my face which was awesome! Super friendly girls plus coat check is only $1! Now for the bartenders, they all were dancing and having a great time taking orders, cleaning and still engaging with guests. Great experience ladies and gentlemen I will most deffinitly be back soon!!!!

They have amazing 2 dollar drinks before 11 and the bartenders are fantastic and sexy. The lights here are dope and their patio area is nice!! Honestly no down sides unless u are a complete square

Me and my friends have been coming here for a few months. Bartenders are super friendly and music is great. Overall positive vibes in the place. I had left my ID and credit card there the last time and the owner made sure I could come get it immediately.

It's a fun and chill place to be! They have a spacious indoor seating, as well as an outside area with a bar. Parking was easy because it was right across the street from the orchid located in the back. The bar tender was very helpful and friendly and suggested a great drink that was sooo good (so they know what they're doing here ;) ). There's also happy hour where you can get drinks for $4 each soooo, being here was a deal lol.

Legendary Ferndale night life institution. The bartenders are the best in the business – hella fast and hospitable. Drink prices are reasonable – especially earlier in the night. Bathrooms are usually clean. Spacious patio area. The dance floor can get filthy towards the end of the night (very sticky). Sometimes the music is good, and other times the DJ abruptly switches between songs without bothering to do beat-matching or key shifting. The DJ seems to have access to a fairly limited list so the music gets repetitive across multiple visits. How about a new or guest DJs? The owner is cool

Awesome Music Atmosphere large dance floor, reasonably priced drinks and safe place for a night out! Mixed ages, genres of music and the lights get you pumped up. Have had 2 Birthdays thrown here. I recommend renting the Mafia Booth place gets packed later in evening and great spot away from crowd.

The club is nice, however, there needs to be more r&b music played. Had a Birthday party there, rented a booth and was never shouted out along with others who bday there was. Cousin requested a song 3 times to the DJ and neither never got played.. all were appropriate club songs.

I visited this club with my boyfriend, my sister and her friends for her birthday. We were there on February 29. My boyfriend had some panic attacks so we went outside several time. The final time we were told to step aside but were not given a reason. It was cold, I had a sleeveless top and my boyfriend, a light hoodie. When we went to go back in, he told us he couldn't let us back in. He stated he saw me pushing people to get outside. I told him my sister lost her phone and I needed to let her know where I was and what happened. He told me I was going to have to "find other means". He also would not let my boyfriend in despite him needing to look for his phone also and not being the one to push people. Reading other comments, I'm not surprised others were treated different because of their skin color.
