When
Dhaka
became
the
provincial
capital
in
1906
AD,
it
was
built
along
with
the
former
High
Court
building,
Curzon
Hall
etc.
It
was
a
two-storied
building
then.
This
building
was
built
to
be
used
as
a
temporary
residence
or
bungalow
for
the
administrative
high-ranking
officials.
The
name
of
this
building
is
not
known
till
1919
AD.
Maharaja
Vijay
Chand
Mahtab
(1887-1941
AD)
of
Burdwan
was
a
member
of
the
Governing
Council
of
the
Governor
of
undivided
Bengal
till
1919
AD
and
he
held
this
post
till
1924
AD.
During
this
period,
as
a
member
of
the
Governor's
ruling
council,
he
had
to
come
to
the
then
provincial
capital
Dhaka
once
a
year.
He
was
living
in
this
house
as
a
royal
guest
at
that
time.
Over
time
this
building
came
to
be
known
as
Burdwan
House.
This
building
is
currently
known
as
Bangla
Academy
Building.
Every
year
Amar
Ekushey
Granth
Mela
is
held
in
this
premises
