(Translated by Google) I know the location since 1975. It could be a museum beauty. Unfortunately, this is another Romanian matter, from which some budgetary people live and they suck some European money. In two years Apolodor built a bridge over the Danube, a bridge that resisted until the retreat of Aurelian. The camp was probably left at that time. For 1700 years we have not been able to use this legacy. You grow up, how stupid and stupid we are.

The roman Castra of Drobeta is very well preserved and was restored not a long time ago. You can see here the one of the pillars from Trajan's Bridge, another one can be seen on the Serbian territory. Also here is a Roman amphitheater which was discovered recently.

(Translated by Google) The Roman city of Drobeta is made up of several Roman vestiges that were part of the old urban center formed around the Roman camp. Drobeta was the first stone fortress built in Dacia (103-105), a Roman defense camp, originally built to accommodate 500 soldiers who guarded the bridge over the Danube. The ruins of the Roman remains are found in several points in Drobeta Turnu-Severin, part of which is in the courtyard of the "Portile de Fier" region museum: foot of Trajan's bridge, terraces, Drobeta Castle, amphitheater etc.

These ruins are located not too far away from the center of the city, in a walkable distance. The ruins cover a larger area so you will be walking around for a while if you're curious to see everything. There is also a small part of raised path where you can overlook the site, and see the Danube River in the background. I definitely recommend visiting here if you're staying in Drobeta-Turnu Severin. Whether you spend 10 minutes here, or an hour here really depends on how interested you are.

Drobeta was the first stone fortress built in Dacia (103-105) by the emperor Trajan, a Roman defense fort and an important military and political center, originally built to house 500 soldiers who guarded the bridge. You can still see the foundations (rebuilt by Constantine the Great) on an area of two hectares, with the four side gates, with houses, barracks, weapon depots, streets and in the center of the castle the building of the praetor (commander) where Emperor Trajan himself stayed in the winter of 105. To the west of the fort, on the bank of the Danube, you can see the ruins of the Roman baths; bricks with the stamp of the 5th Macedonica legion were found in the walls, a sign of the dating of the construction of the baths at the same time as the construction of the castle and the bridge.

As a colony, Drobeta was a thriving city with temples, a basilica, a theater, a forum, a port and guilds of craftsmen. In the middle of the 3rd century, Drobeta covered an area of 60 hectares and had a population of almost 40,000 inhabitants.

The access is restricted to the public. We asked a guardian if he could let us take a look inside but he didn't let us. I think is a nice place to see, after the restaurations are over... Who knows when.

(Translated by Google) From the point of view of a personal tourist viewer, it is weak, just some bricks, and you do not understand too much. It would be useful if there were several pancakes with information maybe even a picture of the original architecture or the most realizable of all, a mini tower in which to climb and see it from above.

(Translated by Google) In some places some of our history can be preserved and this fortress is one of the preserved and cared for ones. The visit is done under the guidance of a guide who presents the history of the place and answers questions. After the restoration you can see the old walls and what was added. It was discovered in the courtyard of the museum and the amphitheater of the fort, an amphitheater that is still under research. From the courtyard you can see the foot of the bridge raised by Romanians in order to enter and conquer Dacia.

Architectural engineering... its organization is very well thought out. Inside the museum, a model of the castle is exhibited. It is worth a walk through the alleys.
