The fort is in disrepair and unaccessible from the inside. You are able to walk around it. The City Council is attempting to repair and reopen the site. After those repairs, this will be a much neater place to visit. In the meantime, if you are nearby, it's a quick 10 minute walk from the nearest parking lot. There unfortunately are no informational signs about the Fort that are visible from the outside. Be on the lookout for the herds of fallow deer that may be nearby. They are relatively tame.

Hard to access although I understand you can get a tour on Friday or Sunday. I have known this building for many years and never saw it open but hopefully I will get to see it inside some time and up the number of stars. I'm only giving three because of access. The fort appears to be close to a design called star-fort that was popular in the seventeenth century. I will have to wait and see!

Extremely interesting, well worth a visit. The office of public works (OPW) hosts this great tour. You can only get in by visiting the Phoenix Park Centre (also worth a visit) and getting a ticket. They then drive you over and give a tour. They are very informative, it's very extensive and they are also still restoring and expanding the tour as time goes on. They explained about the history, 1916 rising, the people and family who lived there and the kinds of lives they lived. The more interest in the tour the more restoration work that will be completed. My partner and myself loved it, I'll be going back in a few years to see what else they have restored and what else they have discovered.

Everything said it was open, sites, Google….everything! When I arrived I found the gates closed and this is very frustrating. Be careful with how it works, because just like it was with me, it can be with you too.

Great place to visit, only caveat is that it's not open to public as it's not structurally safe. Otherwise it's a great place to see the panorama of the Dublin Hills. One of the few places in the capital to see them uninterrupted.

Built in the early 1700s and now a ruin (well nearly) this Historical site is to be conserved and renovated at some stage in the future according to planning notice. A shame its been left like this in such a prine location in the city. It has History bring it back to life

Basically abandoned, quite a long walk to reach it but it's closed. Don't bother. On the other hand, we saw stags, which was nice.

Closed to the public. Appears to have structural issues. This site could be an amazing opportunity for development as it had great historical significance in the city and is located in a very well trafficked public park.

Still has a little part of the building standing. This certainly is history.

The fort is closed. You can walk around it but that’s about it. Not worth a visit until the fixed it.

This fairly derelict historical is due a face lift. Given the historical importance of this building it is vital it is restored. Built in the early 18th century. It is in many ways a huge part of Irish heritage and military history. The walk up to the fort is spectacular, it is located on high ground overlooking Chapelizard, the Liffey Valley and Kikmainham. The views of the city and mountains in the distance is awesome. This is well worth a visit, access is impossible but it is a terrific building to visit. Set in the majestic Phoenix Park the walk to this historical gem is well worth the effort.

Great view of phoenix park. You can get inside if you jump over the fence. But thats not allowed or recomended. For security reasons. But if you want to see inside... thats the only way ;)

It's a nice walk around the fort, you can't go inside if you were wondering, but just seeing it from the outside is very good.
