Unfortunately, this was one of my worst food experiences in Morocco. The owner of the place had changed a week before our ordeal, so all previous reviews here are unfortunately outdated - and we chose to eat at that place because of them! We were aware that dining in the Medina will be more expensive than in the outskirts of the city, but the quality of the food and the portions were simply a joke for these hefty prices. We ordered a "Mix Grill Platter" for 180 DHS - what we received were 2 tiny deep-fried fish, a bunch of small Crevettes and some squid rings (as well deep-fried) - and none of the items were fresh, resulting in a weird tummy. Furthermore, we confronted the owner of the place with our experience, hoping she would at least admit that this was not correct, but instead we were lectured that "Grill" means "Deep fried" - even though the images on her own menu show clearly grilled fish. As a summary: this place was probably excellent back in the days, but the new owners simply kept the menu and the prices of the old establishment, but lowered the quality and the quantity heaps. It's the perfect example of a tourist trap and if you want to leave a restaurant with a good feeling and a full stomach (not making weird noises) then avoid this place at any cost. There are so many better places in the city where you will get yummy food for a fair price, but not here. A disappointment deluxe!

We stopped here because we got distracted by our love for local cats. We should have been left already when we felt the urgency from the host to let us sit and order. Sadly the grilled fish was overcooked and dry, the fried squid was a bit chewy and you could see and taste that the grill was not properly cleaned. The salad that held the sides was unwashed or at least still dirty. We felt it could have been so easy to deliver a nice dish since the fish is fresh from the market and the restaurant prides itself with the title spécialités de poisson. We don't like to leave a bad review, but our experience differs very from the reviews before and we felt we were not the only unsatisfied customer of the day: the couple next to us got a different dish than they ordered and send half of it back to the kitchen. Sorry.

Really good and absolutely fresh seafood for an affordable price. Cats everywhere asking for their share. Really nice and professional waiter, tiny but clean bathroom. Try the mixed seafood, we loved it (it was enough for two to share).

Wow this restaurant was really exceptional! We tried all of their seafood dishes and the winners were the sardines & prawns! We even decided to extend our Essaouira stay and have lunch again here the following day before we head to Casablanca. The owner Abdel was very kind, accommodating and professional. The interior of the resto feels like Bohemian too and looks very nice in pictures! A must try when in Essaouira! Kudos to Resto Dar Abi team! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service and food satisfaction 😋

If you are looking for Fresh Fish (Catch of the day) then this is the place to Dine. We took Seabream and it was delicious!! Clean Place in a lovely open space in Essouira. If you are in a rush maybe this is not the place for you since it took a while for the food to be served, but you can tell it was all freshly cooked from scratch. One of the best places we dined in Morocco so far !!👍

Sardines and shrimp are both fantastic! This is a small place, very friendly with tables in the small square. The proprietor is great, he even brought out candle for ambience! Would definitely come back. Only downside - one person running the place, so service isn't super quick.

Sadly the grilled fish was dry and I felt pushed by the waiter to order more. The only bad food experience in three weeks of Morocco.

This was probably my favourite place in the whole trip. The fish tagine was amazing, the staff were friendly, and the location was great. It was tucked away in a little square next to the souks.
