We came to this restaurant because there were over 3,500 reviews and 4.8 stars. And we didn’t go wrong. Everything was delicious. They cooked the lamb to perfection and the meze plate was perfect. I enjoyed the ottoman juice which was full of flavor and so rich. You will definitely taste the cinnamon in this traditional ottoman beverage. The bread was fresh and the ground beef kobeba was absolutely phenomenal. We spend roughly 1300 TL for four people which is less than $100 US. But there was so much food and beverage. It was a perfect experience. Simply put you can’t find a meal like this in the US. Come here at night and sit outside for the ambiance and fresh air.

Best place to eat in Istambul. Service was SO attentive and kind. That literally gave this review its 5star. We ordered hummus, grape leafs rolls, Turkish ravioli, salad and backlava. The other dessert, coffee, tea and olives were on the house. Food was awesome savoury. Super recommended.

Upon entry we were greeted by a lovely gentleman, Şeymus who turned out to be our server. We truly had the best service and the best food we ever experienced while in Istanbul. And I’ve had some pretty great food here. Şeymus made some excellent recommendations off the menu and we took every one and did not regret it! The food was fresh, the table, utensils and glasses were clean, and the food made to order. The clay pot beef, aubergine salad, and the chicken ottoman dishes were remarkable. We followed up dinner, with not very much room left, with some dessert and tea on the recommendation of our server. It was truly amazing and they even gave us a second dessert on the house. You can truly taste the pride and passion of the chefs and staff in their food, and you can see it in their service as well. This place is a gem and I hope to visit Şeymus and co soon again at The Old Ottoman Restaurant.

Amazing place a bit aside from all tourist trap restaurants. For the same price as everywhere you get really decent food, top service, staff is sincere, speaks very good English. As the place makes the living relying on good reviews (and not just by being on one of the central streets), they truly bother to make you a happy client. Go there without worries! Old Ottoman Cafe & Restaurant is my favorite restaurant in Istanbul. It is not fancy and doesn’t have breath-taken views. They don’t have any hard selling personnels on the sidewalk trying to lure customers in. They have relaxing ambient, friendly service, good quality food, and reasonable prices. The bread, the olives, the hummus with pastrami, the chicken wings, the lamb chop, and the soufflé were all good. Overall, this is my most satisfying restaurant in Istanbul. They didn’t even add any service charges. I will certainly visit them again.

I went here for dinner on my 1st day of Istanbul and instantly liked the vibe of the restaurant. It was cold outside so they had put heaters on top so that you can still sit outside and enjoy your meal. The staff was courteous to explain us the menu and give some suggestions. We ended up ordering cheese rolls, chicken cassarolle, beer and house wine. The service was quick, the food was served hot and tasted perfect. The chicken cassarolle had the perfect blend of spices. For desserts we wanted to have Baklava but it was unavailable so we were suggested Ottoman dessert which was perfect, it was a fried paratha with stuffing and bowl of ice-cream. The restaurant also gave us Semolina with ice cream and Turkish tea complimentary which was a very humble gesture. Its a perfect place to end your day with.

This is a truly old cafe seems with long history of serving traditional Turkish cousine. Food was lovely, and some interesting dishes served with some theatrics right in front of you before serving. Came here on a Monday so for lunch wasn’t very busy, the service was super friendly and attentive. The waiters even offered some little treats on the house. Highly recommend especially for a lunch spot if you’re visiting nearby tourist attractions.

Shakshuka and the salad blew my mind so I didn't think that it would get any better than that, but then it did when I tried the köfte. Definitely one of the best in the heart of Istanbul. They are located very near to the touristy sights so give them a shot if you are around. Slightly surprised by the lack of a crowd/ business during lunch time but we went in anyway and ordered in fury (just see the pictures ;) I think all items turned out really well but a tad surprised with the lamb shank which seems a lot more of a western style served on mash potatoes than what you'll expect of a Turkish cuisine.. but it was tender and nicely flavoured anyway. I honestly didn't pay much attention to their prices but was astonished to find it's less than 1/4th of what I'd have paid in my home country and all for a full 4 course meal for 2. I recommend taking the effort of visiting this restaurant wherever you were in Istanbul for a truly authentic, simple Turkish meal. Go with the clay pot beef or chicken and you'll not regret it! P.S.: food was too good it was devoured before we decided to take any pictures.

Excellent food and service! Loved their veggie menu and food. If you have 2 min, take a turn from the main street and try what this kitchen has to offer. Very delicious!

Place is really calm and relaxed, not so many people and noises. Atmosphere, waitress, music, food was amaizing. If you want to feel real 🇹🇷 calture, this is the place which you need to visit ! (Reccomend you to try gley pot with beef)

We tried this restaurant because we were looking for authentic ottoman cuisine, and the food did not disappoint! The beef clay pot dish was delicious and a fun experience as well. Our server Ali gave us recommendations for all of the food we ordered and it was all excellent. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

I Found this place on google and if i can give them 100 stars I would… absolutely amazing from begging to end I am in hospitality industry in USA for 12 years and my parents and I were amazed from service to food to desert We stayed at 5 star hotel in Istanbul and nothing compared to these ppl service they are truly amazing in what they do and we enjoyed so much , you guys made my parents so happy and we enjoyed your impeccable service and food I would recommend them to anyone visiting Istanbul and I would certainly be back again Thank you

The reviews tempted us to drive for 45 minutes just to try their food. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The clay pot (both chicken and beef were very good) but our absolute favorite was the shank with mashed potato. It was sooo good and soft. The service was outstanding. Everyone speaks perfect English there. The owner was very welcoming. Dessert and tea on the house. Would definitely go there again.

We went last night to the Old Ottoman, enticed by both the good reviews and the word of mouth. Many on the streets nearby will try to convince you that their reputation precedes them only by "the sister, the daughter and the friends" writing their reviews in Google Maps. To cut it short: believing that will be a great mistake and you will miss out on an unforgettable experience. Their amazing selection of dishes, that cater both to omnivores and vegetarians alike (or even vegans for some items in their menu) will definitely please you. We had the vegetarian clay pot, the beef traditional hot plate, the mixed meze platter and even though we did almost explode with the amount of food, we finished everything in front of us. Their house wine is superb (although with very strong body). Their dessert with walnuts was mind-blowing. All in all we almost had to roll ourselves back to the hotel, but to be honest, no regrets. However the indisputable star of the evening, beyond the amazing food, was the service - they were fun, jovial, welcoming, and delivered a strong "feel at home" atmosphere. It was the extra spice which made our meal truly especial. I sincerely, wholeheartedly hope that you get to read this and give this place a try if you're around.

If you miss this restaurant, you will regret it for the rest of your life!!!! All staff were extremely friendly and warm-hearted with great jokes, homie atmosphere, beautiful decoration, good price, and the food was awesome!!! I guarantee that all the customers will have great experience since the first second they step into the restaurant. Where to begin! The wait staff were extremely friendly, and helpful when asked about menu items. They made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. The food itself was great! We had different items but what stood out the most was the vegetarian clay pot- A must try. They offered complimentary tea and dessert at the end of our meal which was so nice it made my day. You can sit either outside or inside but you wont feel too crowded with either choice. I hope whoever reads this, gives this place a try. I've been to 4 to 5 different restaurants in the area and this is definitely the best, both in service and food.

This is the best restaurant in Istanbul. 10000/10. Ask for Ali, he was very kind and explained the menu for us. We were a group of 16 and the put us all on the same table. At the end they gave us dessert and Turkish tea.

Old Ottoman Cafe is a little more expensive than the average restaurant in Istambul, but the price is pretty reasonable for the quality of food you can get here. The staff is super nice and they'll make sure to make the best suggestions for your best experience. The clay pot besides its great show is incredibly delicious. The ottoman dessert is a no brainer for a sweet end. Decoration is cozy and nice for a cold day and location is perfect

Had a great lunch here :) staff was very friendly and welcoming and offered to give recommendations! Even got tea and a dessert on the house! Food itself was great as well, had the moussaka and chicken casserole. Great stop after a morning exploring the sights nearby

What a great dining experience! Found this restaurant randomly through a search and saw a lot of reviews recommending their beef clay pot, so I obviously had to go get their beef clay pot and try for myself. Wow! Was that’s ever a treat. They literally cook it in a sealed clay pot and bring it out over the fire and crack it open right in front of you! Super cool and also so DELICIOUS! Comes with a bowl of rice, olives and bread. I asked for extra rice and they gave it to me for free. They also gave me a complimentary dessert and tea (other guests in the resto got one too while I was there). Great service from the whole restaurant. Would definitely recommend going and getting the beef clay pot! Thanks!

Loved this place. Really nice vibe and service but the food is the main attraction as it was absolutely brilliant. The kebabs and kofte were extremely well cooked, well flavoured , and juicy . There were good vegetarian options too. Would recommend !

I do not normally leave reviews, but the cold drink named "Ottoman Sherbet" was amazing. A juice with flower/pomegranate/cinnamon flavour they make at the restaurant. The food was really good as well. Keep in mind that if you do not eat cheese normally, the "Spinnach in casserole" and "old Ottoman speciality" can become overwhelming.
