I love the atmosphere day and night. Families gathered together making picnic, playing, laughing, buses going everywhere and trams as well. You have cash points and the tourist police 24/7. You can snack on some sweetcorn (5TL) or chestnuts (10TL to 30 TL) which are delicious. As you sit down to watch your environment, people selling water(1TL), tea or coffee will offer everyone for 3TL. One evening as I was sitting on a bench drinking tea, I was approached by a 25 year old man, he started to talk very respectfully so I didn't mind a conversation until he started to flirt. Perfect if that is what you are looking for. I have seen some Turkish guys pretending to be Spanish which I am, to a Korean tourist trying to take him for drinks. It was a bit strange and I would be careful. If you have any problems, talk to the police, present all over the square. Amazing restaurants offering homemade Turkish food for around 32TL (food, drink and bread). The restaurant is called Can. Other similar ones along the tram line.

Square is definitely a misnomer when describing Sultanahmet Plaza. It is irregular in shape and has no clearly defined boundaries. It includes a park three places of worship, remains of ancient monuments, a fountain and a tomb of the eponymous sultan Ahmed. It is overran by tourists, literally overran. To the point where its hard to find an open spot on a bench if you need to sit down. Access is also limited to a few official entrances while the rest is fenced off. It is very pretty however and there is lots to see, but eating and drinking anywhere in the vicinity is not recommended unless you like paying triple for not very good food. Couple all this with some really well fed cats and dogs and you have a pretty good picture of this central area (not square) of Istanbul

Sultanahmet Square (Hippodrome) Sultanahmet Square was a kind of stadium called the Constantinople Hippodrome during the Roman and Byzantine periods. In this square, where chariots raced for centuries, you can still see some of the historical artifacts from that period. Today, Sultanahmet Square is one of the most touristic places in Istanbul. Among the places surrounding the hippodrome are famous historical monuments such as the Blue Mosque, Ibrahim Pasha Palace (Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum) and Hagia Sophia. Hippodrome of Constantinople: The Hippodrome of Constantinople was built by the famous Roman emperor Constantine the Great (Constantinus) in the 4th century. The Hippodrome, one of the social centers of the city throughout history, had a capacity of tens of thousands of people. The Hippodrome witnessed very important events throughout Byzantine history. Byzantine emperors were crowned in front of enthusiastic crowds in the Hippodrome. On the other hand, the rebellions that dethroned many Byzantine rulers started from here. For example; The Nika Revolt, the largest rebellion in Byzantine history, also spread to the city from here. The rebellion, in which 40,000 people destroyed the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) capital Constantinople, broke out during the reign of Emperor Justinian, which ironically represented the peak of Byzantium. The Hippodrome, where chariots competed during the Roman and Byzantine periods, turned into a public square during the Ottoman Empire. Religious holidays were celebrated and banquets were held in honor of palace weddings in the Hippodrome, which was named "Sultanahmet Square" over time. The Hippodrome was a place where Janissary soldiers proved their courage during the Ottoman period. Some soldiers would climb the Örmetaş in the square to demonstrate their skills. Thus, the people gathered in the square for the festivities would enjoy these shows. Sultanahmet Square is one of the most important tourist centers in Istanbul today. On one side of the square is the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, and on the other side is the Sultanahmet Mosque. During the years when chariots raced in the square, there was a U-shaped race track. The rivalry between the Blues and the Greens, the city's most important teams, was attracting tens of thousands of people to the stadium. In addition to being sports clubs, the Blue and Green teams also had political characteristics. The social class and religious sect of the supporters of the two sides differed. This took the competition to a different dimension. There was a hippodrome in each of the leading cities of the ancient world. However, the two most prominent Hippodromes at that time were the Circus Maximus in Rome and the Constantinople Hippodrome in Istanbul. World famous car racers emerged from the Hippodrome in Istanbul. Of these, Porphyrius the Charioteer was the most famous. Born in Libya within Roman borders, Porphyrius competed in many arenas of the ancient world. However, he achieved his most important successes at the Constantinople Hippodrome. The chariots competing in the Hippodrome would race fiercely on the U-shaped race track and show their mastery on the sharp bend at the end of the Hippodrome. In the central section (spina) around which they revolved, there were many historical artifacts. The most important of the monuments adorning the Hippodrome was the Obelisk brought from Egypt. The second was the Serpent Column from Ancient Greece and the third was the Knitting Stone erected by Roman emperors.

You can't leave Istanbul without visiting the Sultan Ahmet. This is the heart & soul of Istanbul. This place is a very historical place with lots of monuments, Museums, parks & mosques around. Crowd is always full, because its in the center of the city. Lots of Souvenir shops, baked corns & chez nuts are available in these places with tastes very nice in cold weather. The Turkish coffee along with Turkish Delight in the nearby restaurants becomes a special treat to visitors. There are lots of restaurants nearby which deals is best of the Turkish foods, which are must visit. Lots of walking is required in this area. I found a scarcity of public toilets in this area.

Right next to the new mosque, the foundations behind the Eminönü sales branch, the mini mini handcraft shops still stand, preserving the old Ottoman architecture. These shops are active most of the time but can be closed from time to time. When a person passes through the street of Destiny, he instantly feels himself in a historical environment. (Translated by Google) Another heritage of the magnificent structures from the Ottoman period that bear the traces of the past to the present day ... Yeni Mosque Hünkar Pavilion. It is a structure that many of us have gone through many times without realizing it in the rush of the day. Mother-of-pearl inlay doors, colorful stained glass windows, walls decorated with Iznik tiles ... All of them are valuable and special. As I mentioned above, this is a building that many Istanbulites may have passed before. It is located in Eminönü, on the "Banks Street", opposite the İşbank Museum, during Eminönü's historic New Mosque. A long steep stony welcomes you at the entrance, which looks like two floors from the outside. When we enter this magnificent building that reflects the traces of the 17th century Ottoman Architecture, we meet us with a stony that is generally used as an exhibition space. The end of the stony, which continues as a slight slope, opens to the living area. You start to feel the smell of history behind the kundekari door with mother of pearl inlay. You are fascinated with valuable Iznik tiles and verses covered with verses, stained glass windows, flooring, cedars, and engravings on the walls of the blue. In this building, which has three rooms, the most magnificent is the Head Room. This room, which is right in front of you at the entrance, is decorated with the belongings of the period. The room, in which the wooden carved ceiling is decorated with magnificent carvings, is covered with Iznik tiles with verses on it. The tiles covered in the rooms have added a different beauty to the architecture. The end of the “L” shaped hall opens to the Valide Sultan Circle. There is also a toilet and a bathroom in the corridor next to the Head Room. The ewers, clogs and candlesticks reflecting the traces of the period adorn the bathroom (bathhouse) section. The Hünkar Pavilion was built in the 17th century by the grandson of Suleiman the Magnificent, the wife of the 3rd Murat, Safiye Sultan. The purpose of the pavilion is to rest, worship and stay before and after prayer, especially on special days and nights, such as oil lamps, when the Sultan and his family come to the New Mosque for worship. For this reason, a transition was given to the New Mosque Complex from Yapı. Today, when we look at the building from the outside, the connection between the Yeni Mosque can be seen. The restoration work initiated by the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce in 2004 has been completed and renewed in 4 years, and awaits its visitors as a museum. Today, the stony part of the pavilion hosts different exhibitions on the second Thursday of each month. Yeni Mosque Hünkar Pavilion has also received the 2010 Europe Nostra (Protection of the European Union Cultural Heritage) award. At the same time, as a little advice, I suggest you to visit the historical İş Bank building, which is located across the street, which serves as İşbank Museum today. Moreover, at İşbank Museum, it provides free service to you, its visitors.

A breathtaking square in Istanbul where locals and tourists revel in enjoying the beautiful surroundings of this vicinity. You see families and life in general in this place as well as your bus load of tourists. There’s ample space for everyone to enjoy themselves. It is strategically located near the two most famous mosques in Istanbul. You cannot visit Istanbul without making it here. You will find ice cream, chestnuts, and your usual cafes here. Lots of police presence so everyone behaves. It is close to most of the attractions in Istanbul. And if you are approached by touts offering boat tours, try to drive down the stated price in their leaflets. Istanbul is a great city to visit and so is Sultanahmet Square.

The Square is a central point to a few attractions such as the Sultanahmet Mosque (AKA Blue Mosque), the Aya-Sofia Museum, and the Islamic Museum. The square is served with many kiosks that sell snacks and drinks, in addition to seating areas. The place can be crowded with people. The place has no entrance fee. Very close to it is the Sultanahmet Park, Aya-Sofia, and the Topkapi Palace.

The building, which was built as a small mansion where the Sultan and his family would rest before and after the prayers, at the request of Murad's wife Safiye Sultan, was opened to visitors after a restoration award for about 4 years. The building, which is said to have been extended by 400 years at the end of the restoration, was awarded the European Union Cultural Heritage Award in the protection category. The Hünkar Pavilion, which is a part of the New Mosque Complex, remains in the Eminönü Historical Peninsula and the urban and historical site area registered with the decision of the Istanbul No.1 Cultural and Natural Heritage Preservation Board dated 12.7.1995 and numbered 6848. Inside the Yeni Cami Hünkar Pavilion, one of the most important works of classical Ottoman architecture, there are rare tiles, mother-of-pearl, bronze plaster and edirnekari from the 17th century. The woodwork at the entrance door of the pavilion, the tiled stoves inside, the tile panels covering the walls, and the colored glass windows are examples of rare craftsmanship. Since some of the tiles, which were made in Iznik and which are the latest and most beautiful examples of Turkish tile art, were specially made to decorate this pavilion, their patterns are not found anywhere else. is his magnificent work. Sultanahmet Square is very fun, I like sitting there and looking at people walking there and taking pics. Some events happen there like the one I will share along with this review, it's usually fun to be there. There are lots of gift shops and cafes, it even has a public rest room so don't worry about that

Very beautiful place, one of Istanbul’s top spots and one of my favorites as well, it’s the place where the Hippodrome of Constantinople once was and it’s a place that’s surrounded with Istanbul’s most iconic spots, like Sultanahmet mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapı Palace, Basilica Cistern, etc…, it’s full with Istanbul’s famous kiosks that serves Corn, Chestnuts and Turkish Bagel(Simit). It’s a must to visit this amazing place whenever you’re in Istanbul.

There is something quite grand about the square which makes walking through it an experience. There are lots of little distractions such as the obelisks and the German Fountain and the main fountain just before you reach Haya Sofia; simit sellers and corn on the cob sellers add extra flavours to your walk. Above all, it's a nice place to sit and take in the two main attractions within the square: Haya Sofia and the Blue Mosque (also known as the Sultanahmet Mosque). You can browse by some of the shops and cafes if you like and at night the whole area is transformed as everything is lit up. Amazing place.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Sultanahmet Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque. Situated just across from the Hagia Sophia Mosque, its location couldn't be more iconic. What truly impressed me was the ease of entry; we didn't have to endure long queues to step into the courtyard. This made our visit even more enjoyable, and we could fully appreciate the architectural beauty of this historic site.

I was there in the spring season. What I like most about this place is the tulips that are blooming in the gardens. Historical place but also has a romantic feel. The cleanliness of this area is maintained, even though there are many tourists passing by. There are several benches that you can sit on for a moment to unwind.

Doğu roma imparatorluğu döneminin hipodromu, osmanlı imparatorluğu döneminin at meydanı olarak bilinir.

(Translated by Google) History of Hünkar Pavilion The Hünkar Pavilion was built in 17th century by the grandson of Suleiman the Magnificent, Safiye Sultan, the wife of the 3rd Murat. Yeni Mosque Hünkar Pavilion also received the 2010 Europe Nostra (Protection of the European Union Cultural Heritage) award. Günümüzdede kasrın taşlık bölümü her ayın ikinci perşembe günü farklı farklı sergilere ev sahipliği yapmaktadır. Yeni Cami Hünkar Kasrı, 2010 Europe Nostra ( Avrupa Birliği Kültürel Mirasın Koruma) ödülünü de almıştır.

(Translated by Google) I will pass on my humble observations, since they are the ones who wrote their history: I had the opportunity to enter the New Mosque Hünkar Pavilion due to the exhibition held at the entrance. Thanks to the exhibition, I also visited the pavilion. The mother-of-pearl inlaid doors and the decorations on the dome of the main hall, which is located in the first right section when you enter the hall, are eye-catching. It is possible to visit one of the two rooms facing the mosque side, but neither the sea side nor the windows of the mosque side are open. One of the points I liked was the windowed wall part that divides the corridor into two. The fact that the windows are two floors resembles the system of today's double glazing, and can also transfer the light to the interior by providing an aesthetic appearance. Still, the airlessness of the pavilion is a bit disturbing, as portable ventilation devices were positioned, but what a remedy ?! Maybe, those who have the opportunity to visit in winter can be considered more lucky :) (Original) Tarihçesini yazanlar olduğundan, kendi naçizâne gözlemlerimi ileteceğim: Yeni Camii Hünkâr Kasrı'na, giriş kısmında yapılan sergi sebepli girme imkânım oldu.

Sultanahmet Square is a historical public area located in the heart of Istanbul, Turkey. It is home to some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern. The square is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, with its stunning architecture, vibrant markets, and delicious street food. Visitors can also enjoy a picturesque view of the Bosphorus Strait and the city's skyline. Sultanahmet Square is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and architecture.

Those who want to travel through history should definitely come here and you can't leave without visiting the Sultanahmet Mosque.

Love the place with beautiful view of the blue mosque. The Sultanahmet Square (Sultanahmet Meydani) is the old historic quarter of Istanbul and here you will find some of the most significant historic monuments of Istanbul. The district was named after Sultan Ahmet I, the builder of the Blue Mosque which sits at one end of the leafy square. Facing the Blue Mosque at the opposite end of the square is the magnificent Hagia Sophia.

Sultanahmet Square has many Historical Buildings arround like Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace. Also Hippodrome located center of Sultanahmet square and you can see German fountain and other monuments. It is like open air museum.

Incredible and historical place. Would love to visit it again. Istanbul is a very beautiful city but I recommend other visitors to use Metro pass rather than a taxi. One day I took to European side of Istanbul to visit Sultanahmet Palace, where I paid 70 Turkish Lira for a taxi. On my way back to Asian side from Sultanahmet I made an agreement of 100 Turkish Lira, one taxi but there was a guy sitting next to a driver. I thought they were friends! Firstly they refused to drop me at my hotel and secondly they stopped me around a dark corner of the street. Thirdly I couldn’t communicate with them because they couldn’t speak English. I was a bit scared with those people. I had to pay 180 Turkish Lira including bridge taxes. I had only 100 Turkish Lira left. I asked taxi driver to exchange Euro to Lira. Taxi driver made me so confused by showing me both Lira and Euro that I didn’t notice when they steal my 100 Euro beside taxi charge. 100 Euro is less important for me than to feel safe when I was in a foreign country. Very unfair and uncomfortable experience I had ever experienced in my life. So please be careful with a taxi if there is a extra guy sitting next to a taxi driver!

At the Sultan Ahmet square you can visit the blue mosque, which is free, currently undergoing renovation. Opposite to the mosque is Hagia Sofia museum which has an entry fees of 72 Lira, totally worthwhile. Better to watch tour guide YouTube videos prior to visiting these places.

This is a must visit place if you are in Istanbul. It’s vibrant and diverse and a hub for tourists from all around the world and a centre for historical landmarks Blue mosque, Hagia Sofia and others. Lots of food to relish and not far from the bazaars if you want to do some authentic shopping. The square is easily accessible by tram if you are not staying in one of the many nearby hotels. A lovely experience I visited like three times once at night and it always had a unique exquisite atmosphere to it and a perfect spot for memorable pictures ♡ must visit again ♡

Sultanahmet square is one of my favorite places to be at in Istanbul. Have a seat at one of the many benches and enjoy the beauty of the Hagia Sophia on the one side and the blue mosque on the other side. When you enter from the tram to the square, there is a security control by the police where you need to show your bag and possibly be searched yourself. But there is no security check when coming from other sides such as Topkapi.

(Translated by Google) In our list named "Eminönü Gülhane Line Conquest in 17 Steps" that we prepared before, it started from Eminönü and went to Gülhane Park; but we did not cross the road and enter Sultanahmet Square, and we left it for another day to tell about it and the environment that is a part of the Historical Peninsula. Now, we invite you to visit these historical places by saying that these days, when Ramadan entertainment is held, is the right time. Here you go to visit Sultanahmet Square and its surroundings. 1. Hippodrome or Horse Square hippodrome-at-square-listelist The known history of Sultanahmet Square, which is one of the first and most crowded places of Istanbul, visited by local and foreign tourists, dates back to the Romans. This square, which was used as a hippodrome during the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire, continued its importance until the 10th century as the meeting, entertainment, excitement and sports center of the city. In addition to car races, musician groups, belly dancers, acrobats, fighting shows with wild animals were always held here. The Imperial Palace known as the "Great Palace" starts near the Hippodrome and stretches down to the seaside. Only one floor mosaic panel of the great hall has survived from this Palace. 2. Circumcision Weddings and the Square of Revolts sunnet-weddings-square of revolts During the Ottoman Empire period, circumcision ceremonies and festivities of the prince that lasted for forty days and forty nights were held in Sultanahmet Square, which is called Horse Square, and the janissary revolts also took place in this region. In the 17th century, after a military uprising known as Vaka-i Vakvakiye, people sentenced to death by the rebels were hung from the branches of a large plane tree in the Horse Square. In addition, Halide Edip made his famous speech in this square in the great rally against the occupation in Istanbul in 1920. (Original) Daha önce hazırladığımız “17 Adımda Eminönü Gülhane Hattı Fethetme Rehberi” adlı listemizde Eminönü’nden başlayıp Gülhane Parkı’na kadar gitmiş; ama yolun karşısına geçip Sultanahmet Meydanı’na girmemiş, orayı ve Tarihi Yarımadanın bir parçası olan çevreyi anlatmayı bir başka güne bırakmıştık. İşte şimdi, ramazan eğlencelerinin yapıldığı şu günler, tam zamanıdır deyip sizi bu tarihi mekanları gezmeye davet ediyoruz. Buyrun, hep birlikte Sultanahmet Meydanı ve çevresini gezmeye. 1. 2.

(Translated by Google) Stop for a moment in front of this large pool of beautiful blue. Sultan Ahmad Maydan Fountain is located next to Sultanahmet Square. The approximate translation means Fountain of the Sultan Ahmad Esplanade. But since there has never been a Sultan Ahmad in Turkey, I suppose it was Sultan Ahmed III who reigned from 1703 to 1730. He had made a sebil, a public fountain to provide drinking water to travelers and running water for ritual needs: ablutions. As soon as the sun sets, the jet fountain is lit up with Sainte-Sophie in the background. It's sumptuous. It’s good to walk in this big park where the lighting brings out the monuments that surround it at night. Your look at 360 ° will make you perceive the quantity of historical monuments that surround you.

(Translated by Google) Sultanahmet Square (Turkish: Sultanahmet Meydanı) was the hippodrome in Constantinople during the Roman Empire and was at that time a social center of the city and a place for sports. Today, it is a square called Sultan Ahmed Square and is located in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The square was organized as if it were a park, but now it has acquired a view indicating its history. There are shops in which artists display their art and which are erected especially during the blessed month of Ramadan in the square opposite the Turkish Islamic Museum with small domes to give it an Ottoman look. In 2011, 17 million Turkish liras were allocated for its restoration.

It is a very safe sector, the police are always guarding the security and it is also a central meeting point, since it is next to the Sultanahmet metro station and that is very convenient to get to. It also has a bus stop that is tourist of Istanbul. (Translated by Google) Sultanahmet, which is the administrative and living center of the Ottoman Empire and named after Sultan Ahmet I, can also be called the historical heart and center of Istanbul. Sultanamhet is also the first hill of Istanbul with seven hills. When Sultanahmet is mentioned, the first things that come to mind as historical monuments and places to visit; Topkapi palace, The Hagia Sophia Mosque, Sultan Ahmet Mosque, The pyramid, fountain and columns in the square, Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, Istanbul Archaeological Museums, Great Palace Mosaics Museum, Basilica Cistern. Since Sultanahmet Square and its immediate surroundings are an area closed to vehicle traffic, and the attractions here are very close to each other, you can easily visit every place in Sultanahmet on foot. You can also use the tram if you want to go to Eminönü and Beyazıt sides. One of the most popular activities to do in Sultanamhet is to feel the historical texture and atmosphere by taking a classic stroll and walk in Sultanahmet Square, and to visit the surrounding mosques, museums, fountains and historical artifacts.

This a huge square and also called as sultanahmet Square. Many monuments, mosque and museum surrounds here. The one tall standing monuments looks like one in Washington DC claimed to be transported all the way from Egypt 🇪🇬 and took many years to install. This symbolise the importance and greatness of the king back then to have such tall monuments. Easy assess and you can also notify many ancient carving of the base stone too!

Sultanahmet Square is the first place one visits while in Istanbul. It is a square with multiple monuments including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. You will find multiple small Kiosks for snacks. You will also get to see Obelisks which have been brought from Egypt in Byzantine times. It is a beautiful square, and holds the history of Constantinople and Istanbul. It has been the center of the city for centuries.

Visited last week, was a part of a group tour.... Turkish summers are the worst for walking around the entire area. The entire group was made to walk from 9am till 5pm after which everybody was super exhausted and dehydrated. The guide took us to hagia sophia, blue mosque, topkapi Palace and grand bazaar. I personally felt that the place is overrated. I suppose it would have been better had the weather been cooler and we would've visited each place on a different day instead of all places in one day.

The hippodrome is also known as Sultanahmet square. It is located in the heart of Istanbul. It's a popular attraction as it's lies next to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia. In ancient time it used to be a sport event place or social centre but now it's all pedestrianised. 3 popular monuments which stands there is " The Serpent Column" which symbolises three snake tangled each other. Next one " Obelisk of Thutmose" which is still in good condition and main point of the hippodrome. Last one " Walles Obelisk" which is just a pillar made up of stone. It's a good place to walk around but ofcourse it doesn't look as how it was built.
