The Fatih Mosque (Turkish: Fatih Camii, "Conqueror's Mosque" in English) is an Ottoman mosque in the Fatih district of Istanbul, Turkey. The original mosque on the site was constructed between 1463 and 1470 on the site of the Church of the Holy Apostles. It was seriously damaged in the 1766 earthquake and was rebuilt in 1771 to a different design. It is one of the largest examples of Ottoman-Islamic architecture in Istanbul and represents an important stage in the development of classic Ottoman architecture. It is named after Ottoman sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, known in Turkish as Fatih Sultan Mehmed, the Ottoman sultan who conquered Constantinople in 1453. FATİH SOCIAL COMPLEX The complex commissioned by Mehmed II, was built by Architect Atik Sinan between the years 1463-1470. The complex is the largest building complex built in Turkish-Islamic architecture until then. It consists of madrasas, a library, sifahane (medical clinic), almshouse, caravanserai, shops, a bath and tombs annexed later on around the mosque. The original mosque of the complex has not survived, and the Fatih Mosque which is present in the complex today was built in late 18" century. The new Fatih Mosque, which was rebuilt in 1767 by Sultan Mustafa IIl and completely different from the previous one, was built by the architect Mehmed Tahir Aga. Fatih Mosque is designed in classical mosque architecture, yet the decorations display influences from baroque style. Its large dome, with a diameter of 26 meters seated on four large marble columns, is supported by four half domes. It has two minarets with two balconies. Inside the mosque, hand carved decoration also reflects baroque influence. The other important aspect of the complex is the madrasas. Madrasas are located at two sides of the mosque. Over time, some of the madrasas, which had undergone various repairs, were destroyed during road construction and eight of the madrasas survived. An adjacent library building in the qibla direction of the mosque was built in 1742. This library has a dome and two gates, one opening to outside, and the other opening into the mosque. But today, books originally from this library are kept in the Süleymaniye Library.

Imposing building. Much more attractive looking than some other mosques that attract tourists/visitors. It is located in an area that gives you a real feel of traditional Istanbul life. Prayers time can be busy. Please visit bearing in mind that it is a place of worship.

The atmosphere was serene and inviting, creating a sense of peace and tranquility. The architecture of Faith Mosque is breathtaking, with its intricate designs and meticulous attention to detail. Every corner of the mosque exudes a sense of beauty and reverence, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and deep spiritual significance of the place. The imam delivered a thought-provoking sermon, conveying messages of love, compassion, and understanding. My visit to the Fatih Mosque in Istanbul was an awe-inspiring and spiritually uplifting experience. As one of the most significant historical landmarks in the city, the mosque offers a glimpse into Istanbul's rich architectural and religious heritage. Upon arriving at the mosque, I was immediately struck by its grandeur and magnificence. The intricate detailing of the exterior, adorned with stunning calligraphy and decorative elements, left me in admiration of the craftsmanship of the artisans who built it. Inside, the spacious prayer hall exudes a sense of tranquility and serenity, providing a welcoming atmosphere for worshippers and visitors alike. The impressive dome and beautiful stained-glass windows create a captivating play of light, adding to the mosque's ethereal ambiance. During my visit, I had the privilege of witnessing a prayer service, and it was a moving experience to see the devotion and unity of the worshippers. The mosque's inclusive and welcoming environment makes it a place where people from all walks of life can come together in prayer and reflection. Moreover, the location of the Fatih Mosque offers easy accessibility, making it a must-visit for both tourists and locals interested in exploring Istanbul's cultural and religious heritage.

Here lies the body of Sultan Muhammad Al Fatih. He is the one who promised by the prophet (PBUH), that he will conquer Constantinople. He is said the best leader, his army is the best army and his people the best one. Crowned first time at 16th of his age, then give the crown back to his father. Later, being crowned again at 19, and in 21st of his age leading his army to conquer Constantinople and succeeded, after more than thousand years the city has never been surrendered or even penetrated by any army before. He is said very pious, god fearing, and longing for his prophet. Never miss his after-midnight prayer since his puberty.. may Allah bless him… Al-Faatihah..

Love this masjid and love the spiritual vibes and frequency! Even the dogs and cats are peaceful. A wonderful place to meet friends and enjoy Turkish tea and kunafe purchased from one of the shops in the old, cobblestone neighborhood just a few feet away.

It reopened to worshippers in 2021.

Fatih Mosque, which was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet on one of the hills of Istanbul, Fatih Mosque is an important symbol of the life culture of the Ottoman culture, called the Kulliye, like the Süleymaniye Mosque. The Ottomans built such large mosques not only as places of worship, but also as schools of the period, madrasas, soup kitchens where food was distributed for the poor, libraries and baths. Fatih Mosque is a very important and valuable work of art belonging to the Ottoman period. And also the tomb of Mehmet the Conqueror is located in the Fatih Mosque. If you are visiting Fatih Mosque i will suggest you to visit One of the oldest bazaars of Istanbul call Malta Bazaar ( during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, immigrants from the island of Malta were settled here, and the name of the bazaar comes from here.) It is a place for food shopping. It is full of fishermen, liver, poultry, butchers, greengrocers, bakeries and delicatessens. It is possible to buy fresh yoghurt, eggs, honey or butter from different regions, bakers make bread 24 hours a day, spice shops are frequented by customers who are interested in medicinal plants. Prices are very cheap and the quality of products are perfect 👌 You must visit the Şekerci Han that goes all the way here.

Fatih Camisi (Conquerer's Mosque) is one of the biggest mosques of İstanbul and is included in the İstanbul's must see places list. It was built in the years 1463-1470, after Fatih conquered Constantinople, destroyed during the big earthquake of 1766 and rebuilt in 1771. It is beautiful, both externally and internally. Fatih the Conqueror is also buried next to the mosque.

An beautiful mosque at the heart of Fatih. It opens up the the street markets and shops and different sides and is the heart of the area. The facilities are clean as well and maintained, lots.of friendly cars, and a peaceful place to pray in. It looks and feels like a sized down version of the blue sultan mosque even down to the carpet and light fixtures.

I love this mosque. Something about it makes me feel at home. Praying here is so peaceful. Sitting in the square, enjoying the beautiful summer breeze at night, and watching other children play and fight with one another. Such a beautiful place. Truly. Please be respectful of the dress code. Do not dishonour the sacred spirituality of the mosque.
