I have been to Florence many times over the years and this is the only place that keeps me coming back. We came to Il Gatto e la Volpe just after they had launched their new menu. The menu itself is quite extensive, featuring lots of Tuscan dishes in addition to having an entire section dedicated to dry aged Tuscan steak. We were served by Remzi who truly made the experience something to remember. He was incredibly attentive and took time to share with us some of his favorites and explain the importance of some of the dishes. Everything arrived perfectly and timed exactly. The first night we had the huge 1.6kg steak which was probably one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The second night we explored the pastas and pizza section -- they were just as delicious as the steak. The wine selection is fantastic; the service and staff are phenomenal; you can easily make reservations online. There is not a single negative thing that I can say about this restaurant. This is one of those places that I will go and always plan to have a nice, long luxurious Italian meal.

Excellent food. One of the best bread I've had in Italy. Service was friendly and outgoing. They treated my dog well ensuring she had plenty of water (after first asking my dog directly if she was thirsty, lol). I had the chicken parm dish which had plenty of cheese. Only negative is the water is expensive. Will return to try additional dishes here

One of the best Florence restaurants with soft light and antic style. Kitchen is a good and big choice of wine. I liked very much desert and pasta here👌

The best pasta I've ever had! The waiter did a very good recommendation for what to have to eat. If you want to have pizza don't go between 3pm and 6pm because the pizza man is not there!

At the beginning i was sceptical about the restrictions because it looks so dark from the outside but when you are inside it is quite charming and could be romantic too. About the food, I was very happy with the choices i ordered. Lobster Pasta was really delicately beautiful. My partner had pasta with wild boar that was delicious too. Great selection of wine!

Updated review after a few days in Florence and seeing prices of other (and in my opinion, better) steak places: 8,5€ per hecto seems absurd. Was underwhelmed by the food here. I had high hopes reading other reviews and seeing all the photos. We were able to get in for an early dinner without a reservation, but we’re seated in the corner of the restaurant without AC. The service was good and they took time to explain the menu. However they didn’t really communicate the steak pricing (by weight) clearly and we had to do a lot of mental math. It essentially came out to 8,5€ for each 100g. And with a 1kg minimum weight for the steak it already costs quite a bit. The steak itself was okay. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was an okay steak. The pasta was good, and the wine selection was nice. Just think this place was a little over hyped

We moved to Florence last night, and after a tiring few days preparing for the move, it was such a treat to have dinner at Il Gatto e la Volpe. The linguine al pistachio was new to me, but I loved its creamy yet light taste and the crunch of the pistachio. The l'ossobuco al fiorentina melts in your mouth and had a delicious, almost decadent bone marrow. My wife enjoyed the bruschetta and the bistecca di scottona. The latter is 500g and appears quite intimidating but didn't ultimately present too much of a challenge :) The service was kind and attentive. We hope to return many more times to try other items on their extensive menu during our stay in the city. (Sorry, they're not the best photos, but we were hungry so they were taken in a hurry.)

This is almost the full package. The atmosphere is super charming. In the evening, it's low lit aesthetic is most romantic. The facilities are clean, and the staff were very accommodating. The food was good. My pizza was reletively standard, not bad, not great, however my partner raved about her lobster pasta. Pasta is definitely the go-to here. Also, not at all too expensive.

This place is unassuming but has excellent food with a focus on being able to add truffle to any pasta dish. Cozy atmosphere that's nice but not pretentious. Highly recommend for a dinner that's a step up from your usual but not something you need a tie for. They also have options for big boy meat dishes to share that looked and smelled amazing (but I didn't get).

Not a bad meal in the house and the staff is wonderful. Google makes it easy to make a reservation but not sure you always need one. The pizzas are huge and food was delicious, would definitely recommend. Stay for the cheesecake.

We enjoyed our meals tremendously. The burrata appetizer was excellent as was the pasta dish I ordered. We observed a few delicious looking meals at the surrounding tables and have decided to come back to dine here the next time we visit Florence.

Absolutely delicious and some of the best pasta I've ever tasted! We'd return again if we weren't set to leave soon. Place is off the "beaten path" and in a less touristy area, which is great. Inside was also nice with an old brick layout.

8 years latter we decided to come back and absolutely zero regrets. I recall that we found this place by chance and definitely this time was planned. Food is amazing, best pasta I had in Firenze. The starters are sooo good as well. Definitely a must go.

The food was okay. It certainly was not bad but nothing amazing either. What took away a few stars however is the price. The price for the Florentine steak on the menu is 8.5€ per hecto. This was literally my first meal in Florence so I had no idea what a hecto was. Not a problem. I decided to ask the server who said in sum and substance, "hmm...I am not sure how to say it. But to get the steak you need a minimum of 1 kg. I would recommend 1.2-1.4 kg or so for the two of you." So we took his advice and ordered a 1.2kg steak. The steak itself was not bad. It was a little bit more cooked than I would've liked for medium rare. It was a bit tough and most of the flavor I enjoyed from it was actually from the salt he sprinkled onto it at our table. I could not taste anything special from the meat itself. This steak ended up costing us 102€....for just the steak!! We've been dining all over Florence these past couple of days since coming here and we've seen prices from 35€-50€ per kg! I am not sure how this place could have charged us 85€ per kg for the same thing. This really soured this dining experience for me. Perhaps I could go back to try the other dishes. But with the many options in Florence, I probably would not return here.

First stop in Florence.. needless to say, pasta will never be the same. The Tuscan pasta was incredible and we were able to have the white truffle feature. Highly recommend this place for the food, refined service, and cozy atmosphere.

BEST PASTA IN ITALY! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious and quite delightful from the pasta to the potatoes and beans sides to the cheesecake. The pasta noodles were noticeably homemade and tasted so fresh paired with their delectable tomato sauce. The focaccia is so rich in flavor and melts in your mouth it is indescribable how delicious it is. The servers were very attentive, nice, and funny. The owner of the restaurant was awesome, very friendly and passionate man. There’s a lovely atmosphere with awesome oldies playing to set the mood. Loved the creamy coffee rich flavor tiramisu and juicy meat. This place is an absolute must when visiting Firenze.

Beautiful restaurant out of the way, delicious appetizers, perfect portions. The Carbonara was delicious, perfectly balanced and light. The pasta is freshly made and the entree with the Boar Ragu had a wonderful depth of flavor. The wine list is spectacular and the pricing is reasonable. Would recommend this restaurant for dinner to anyone looking to experience Firenze cuisine.

In a 2 trip to Florence, we went to Il Gatto e la Volpe TWICE. This is a very good way of saying... This place is absolutely amazing and you must not miss it. First, the cook is a true profesional. We tried two of his creations. I'd say the best word to describe his work is Balance, with a capital B. He tried to find balance in color, texture, spiceness, etc. It"s been a long time since the last time I enjoyed that much the work of cook. Bravo, caro ! Keep it going. Second and most important, the crew is absolutely LOVELY. His manager and the rest of the team made us feel like home. That is not an easy thing to fulfill in such a touristic city. I wish I had a restaurant like this in Paris. Message to the Il Gatto e la volpe team : Grazie ragazzi, vi aspettiamo à Parigi !

The food was very good and the prosecco divine. The meat was medium rare and it was delicious... I can't even describe the burata pasta ❤️❤️❤️

The fiorentina was delicious, but 1kg is not enough for two people who eat too much 🤭 Good wine 🍷 Also, side dishes are Good, especially potatoes 🍠🥔

Oh wow. What a find! Our party of 5 (ranging in age from 14-62) loved this place. We ate family style and shared everything from antipasti to pasta to steak. The service was so great - all the waiters took great care of us! Can’t wait to visit again when we return to Florence. We all agree that the risotto and the gnocchi were amazing.

The restaurant is conveniently located near the Palazzo vecchio, the Uffizi gallery and every must-see place in central Florence, while also being in a more quiet, less busy street. We have had lunch and cannot recommend it enough. Staff was attentive and kind and the food was easily top 3 that we've had in Italy -which is saying something! The risotto is from another world. Overall a 10/10 experience at the heart of the city. I wish the pictures I've taken did the dishes justice!

So happy we stumbled upon this place for our stay in Florence! We have tried the Florentine Steak multiple times and they by far, had THE best one! They brought you the raw steak prior to making it, & the service and waiters were incredible. Also delicious Moscow mules! Also love that they split a shared pasta into two dishes. My #1 recommendation in Florence 🥰

Recommended from a local and it was totally worth it. The food and the service were great! Meat is a must here and the wine cellar is specially well cured. Reservations are recommended but not always necessary. Be careful with peak season.

Checked it out whilst in florence for the weekend. It was empty at the time, but I'm sure it gets packed. Nice little family run restaurant. I ordered the lobster spaghetti, but there wasn't much lobster once i cracked it open. About 2 mouthfuls. We shared a starter. Had a main each, 1 side no desert and a bottle of wine. Toral £91.

Service was quick but the food was just okay. We had tortelli filled with artisanal potatoes (mashed potatoes), topped with an overly salty cheese sauce, and with finished with shaved truffles (which astonishingly lacked any aroma or flavor). The cacio e pepe was fine, nothing to write home about. The water glasses also had a wet dog smell. No need to go here when so many places a bit farther from the sights have spectacular food with a smaller price tag.

The food and ambience were perfect. The server was friendly with all guests. However, I have noticed that as we booked through The Fork and were going to get a discount of 50%, he was not so pleasant about it!
