I
want
to
make
something
very
clear,
which
is
that
at
Betty's
they
don't
serve
"shaorma"
but
DURUM,
the
common
type
of
durum
found
all
over
western
Europe.
This
is
obvious
from
the
fact
that
they
use
pita
style
bread
marked
DURUM
on
the
bags!
Romanian
style
shaorma
is
a
unique
food
made
with
Libyan
style
pita
bread(Paine
libiana)
which
has
a
different
consistency
and
taste.
Also,
shaorma
is
not
made
with
things
like
parsley,
corn
or
carrot.
Never.
DURUM
is
made
with
those
ingredients
so
once
again
it
is
absolutely
obvious
that
the
"shaorma"
served
at
Betty
is
actually
durum
or
durum
kebab,
whatever
you
want
to
call
it,
but
not
shaorma.
This
is
like
ordering
pizza
and
receiving
sarmale
instead.
Sure
i
like
sarmale
but
that's
not
the
name
of
the
food
i
ordered.
The
fact
that
the
people
ordering
at
Betty
don't
know
the
difference
between
romanian
shaorma(there
are
different
style
of
shaorma/shawarma
as
well)
and
plain
old
durum
is
amazing
but
also
somewhat
to
be
expected,
because
up
until
recently
there
was
no
real
shaorma
even
served
in
Galati,
however
that
doesn't
mean
all
i
ok.
Again,
different
foods
have
different
names,
what
they
serve
at
Betty
is
called
durum(look
at
the
pita
bags,
it
says
right
there!).
It
doesn't
matter
how
good
the
chicken
is
or
how
much
meat
it
being
put
in
the
durum,
it's
not
shaorma.
This
is
also
false
advertising
from
the
shop
itself,
because
they
market
themselves
as
a
"Shaormerie"
which
they
are
not.
You
cannot
make
shaorma
without
libian
bread,
which
in
Galati
was(until
recently)
replaced
with
other
types
of
pancake
style
pita
or
durum
pita
probably
because
they
are
cheaper
and
people
obviously
can't
tell
the
difference.
It's
a
question
of
education
first.
You
want
shaorma
in
Galati?
You
can
go
to
Shaorma
Baneasa
which
is
a
so-so
shaorma(not
the
best)
but
at
least
it's
real
shaorma.
I
didn't
wrote
this
review
to
bash
the
shop
but
people(the
customers)
are
ignorant
and
this
is
not
1990
anymore.
You
can't
confuse
durum
kebab
for
romanian
shaorma,
which
in
all
honesty,
is
actually
way
better
than
the
original
middle
eastern
recepies.
Shaorma
is
a
romanian
food
which
is
not
found
in
Turkey,
Syria,
Germany
or
Spain,
the
way
we
make
it
is
different
and
it's
better.
The
differences
between
them
are
too
big
to
ignore,
just
like
sarmale
is
different
from
the
cabbage
rolls
served
in
the
Middle
East.
They
invented
the
dish,
we
made
it
better.
Same
with
shaorma
and
other
foods.
The
best
shaorma
i've
ever
eaten
is
at
Socului
Shaorma
in
Bucharest,
but
there
is
also
a
place
in
Sibiu
where
syrians
work.
If
you
can't
buy
it,
simply
make
shaorma
at
home,
all
you
need
is
the
libyan
bread
which
is
sold
in
places
like
Carrefour.
The
rest
is
easy.
As
for
the
people
who
eat
at
Betty's,
stop
saying
"the
best
shaorma
in
Galati",
it's
not
even
shaorma??!
If
you
know
how
to
read,
read
what
is
says
on
the
pita
bags,
they're
right
there
behind
the
counter.
