What a place! Absolutely hidden gem of Romania. I went to see this place in October 2021 and I want to come back! Very local place, there is a camping next to it so you can stay overnight. Unfortunately not public transport, so I got a train from Bucharest to the closest town and then hitchhiked. Off the beaten path if you travel around Romania or do a city break in Bucharest Pics ig@offtrackroza

This place is good, but not as good as the volcanoes just a km or two south of here. The mounds are big, but there’s far fewer vents and the area they’re over seems smaller. The deep gullies on the west side are very cool, but do be careful if walking near them as the sides can crumble. Prices are 4/2/1 RON pp and it’s possible to buy postcards at the ticket office here. Large car park opposite.

This was such an amusing place to visit, and the surrounding countryside was breathtaking. The volcano was very strange, and not at all what I had imagined, but it’s so fun to walk around and it really seems like the kind of landscape that dinosaurs just walked out of. I really recommend a visit, just watch out cause the larger bubbles can splash you, one splashed my legs!

One of the best location from Romania. Mud Volcano 🌋 is special spot from Europe. The access is little hard but when you arrive there you will never regret. The deep of volcanic mud is 3 kilometres. I see this place from first time in my life and it was automatically nice.

After seeing the big volcanoes enjoyed the short hike up to the small volcanoes from the campsite. Didn't bother going up close to small ones as if a group of people spread out in front (even if only 6 or 7) they sort of ruin the experience & view (in my opinion). We could have waited 10 minutes to be the only ones, but it was similar to the mari volcanoes - so didn't bother. A neat natural phenomenon. Definitely worth it if you're in the area!

Unique place where you can enjoy this rare phenomenon. There is free parking as well as paid one, entrance fee is under 1 euro. Gorgeous moon-like landscape

I prefered the Mici ones at the south of the campsite. More diverse, more cones, bigger area, better for photos (no buildings in the background, easier to hide from other visitors). And not much smaller, despite the name. These Mari ones have one thing better, the few explanatory panels. Both have cold beer providers nearby.

It was amazing. We visited on a cloudy, but fair wather day and I suggest you should do the same. If it rains, the soil will be really hard to traverse. We started with Paclele Mari. The road to it is ok-ish. Not terrible, but you should pay attention to all the pot holes. Be very careful with children, dogs and other animals since, from our experience, they tend to jump the street. Parking is 5 RON, access ticket for adults is 4 RON. The landscape is otherwordly. Deep ridges, gray and redish-brown devoided of life soil, bubbly volcanoes and a mud that smells like fosil fuels. We enjoyed it. Careful with the mud. Its sticky as heck, smells like crude oil and its very hard to remove from clothes/shoes/fabric. Can also iritate the skin because of its composition. Once you pass the ticketing gate, you can freely explore and I suggest to take your time and do so. After Paclele Mari we went back, on the main road, to Paclele Mici. The trail to Paclele Mici si behind Camping Muddy. Its marked and easy to follow. Same acces pricess as before and you'll need a sifderent ticket for them, purchaseable on the premise. We found Paclele Mici more interesting that Paclele Mari. They volcanoes there are more active, more numerous and spread on a larger area.

Gorgeous, in a very unique way. It feels like you're on another planet. When you get there, don't rush straight to the largest cone, there is a short path around the area with interesting signs explaining how the volcanoes are formed. The entrance fee is cash only, and so is the payment for the parking. There is also a restaurant right next to the entrance (outside the reservation area), with good food and large portions. It's also cash only.

Amazing place out a Jurassic Park kind of scenery. Worth travelling all the way through the rugged terrain to see how the earth is opening up through muddy bubbling craters.

Different experience, something to see. Bubbling or boiling as it names refers to it, makes you want to have a bath in it :))). Only the smell and the written word warns you that it’s toxic for us and the mud is coming to surface from 3 in deep

Interesting experience for a small fee, 1 euro. Can get crowded by afternoon the best time to visit is early morning or at sunset. Plenty of opportunity for photos.

On a road trip around Romania, I had the pleasure of exploring Vulcanii Noroioși Pâclele Mari, a lesser-known but absolutely fascinating natural site. Nestled in a tranquil countryside, this place is home to small mud volcanoes, a geological phenomenon that is both rare and intriguing. I was captivated by the lunar-like landscape. The mud volcanoes, though small in size, created an otherworldly atmosphere. It was fascinating to watch as the mud bubbled and spewed from these natural structures, offering a glimpse into the dynamic processes taking place beneath the Earth's surface. The site is well-organized, with clear signage and pathways that allow visitors to navigate the area safely while getting up close to the mud volcanoes. The surrounding landscape also offers some picturesque views of the Romanian countryside, perfect for those who appreciate both geology and scenic beauty. Visitors should be prepared for a bit of a walk from the parking area to the volcanoes and wear appropriate footwear, as the terrain can get muddy. Also, there aren't many facilities like cafes or restaurants nearby, so it's a good idea to bring water and snacks. A fun fact about Vulcanii Noroioși Pâclele Mari, several scenes of the Netflix show "Django" were filmed there. As a matter of fact, the entire series was filmed in Romania.

A unique and spectacular lunar-like landscape; due to the soil being very salty, there is no vegetation. The gas erupting is mainly methane so it's flammable, don't think about playing with fire around the craters. This is a rare natural phenomenon, it's worth the trip.

This place is memorable but screems to be more protected especially since the underground resource is visibily reduced in intensity.

We went at Paclele Mici only because the wind was very strong during winter when we visited the place and we decided we will not visit Paclele Mari too. Beautiful place where you can go with your kids or friends. There are some small mountains you can climb too near that place. You realy need to visit the place. Also you can buy Plescoi sausages from a place nearby. If you have a mobile house you can camp there.

The Berca Mud Volcanoes is a geological and botanical reservation located in Scorțoasa commune close to Berca in Buzău County in Romania. Its most spectacular feature is the mud volcanoes, small volcano-shaped structures typically a few metres high caused by the eruption of mud and natural gases.

Amazing surreal landscape ! You can imagine how our world will look like in close future if we don’t stop the climat crisis. Unique expérience worth coming hundreds of kilometers!

A barren land that is actually a geological curiosity. These "mud volcanoes" are bubbling 24/7 slowly terraforming the terrain. The entrance fee is minuscule, and the sights are totally unique and worth it. It reminds me of selenar landscapes.

Worth visiting while in Buzău. The entry ticket costs 4 RON with parking included in the price. You can find a lot of facts and information in the area written. Wouldn’t suggest to touch the mud as they are toxic.

Wowowow! We loved this place. The mud vulcanos are great. We could absolute recommend this area. You have to pay a little entry. It’s not very dirty over there but we found on the way to the vulcanos some cigarettes, plastic stuff and toilet papers. Everywhere are trashbuns!!! Right next to them you could find trash. I could not understand why tourist disturb the nature that way!

Lovely one day trip from Bucharest. The entrance is really cheap and you get to learn a bit about the place. Very unique :)

Bring a cap and put on some sun lotion 😁 Nearby you have a place where you can eat traditional and healthy food. You have to pay at the entrance 4 lei for adults, there's free parking, there are magnets, honey and palinca.

The mud volcanoes are nice, but it's not very interesting. The access is on a very bad and narrow road. Parking is paid. There's also a fee to enter the volcano. You can only pay in cash in Lei or Euros. Card payments are not possible.

👍👍 You aren't supposed to walk in the gray wet areas, nor to leave shoe marks in the mud!
