😠 No one bothered to give us the menu when we arrived. I asked the counter if I could take the menu, the girl just nodded as if it was my duty to take it myself. The menu already has limited options, yet 50% of the dishes we ordered weren’t available. After waiting for an hour, we asked the waitress... People often mention good, taste, restaurant, time, dishes, waiting,

The menu already has limited options, yet 50% of the dishes we ordered weren’t available. After waiting for an hour, we asked the waitress for an update. The waiter didn’t get back to us. Please hire more waiters and be responsive to diners’ requests. Also, improve speed and quality.

The iconic ‘chu char’ restaurant of Penang has reopened its doors, now located at Noordin Street. The assam prawns and kangkong sambal belacan were as delicious as ever. I understand that it has just reopened quite recently, so be prepared to have a lengthy wait for your meal (our waiting time was 45 minutes).

The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice. But the food, if it were to be compared to the past the difference would be two worlds apart. I would've quote the words of Zhong Li "Osmathus wine taste the same as I remember, where are those who share the memory", but in this case the osmanthus wine doesn't taste the same as I remember, and I'm here with the ones who share the memory.

Food is tasteless and horrible. Waited for a long time for all of our food to arrive on the table. And they call themselves one of the best? It's questionable. And update. After waiting 20 more minutes, we finally got our last dish... what a horrible service

Alot improvements to go after long shutdown. One of our dish was burnt and it was the last to serve too. To me if your mum is a good cook, you don't have to visit here. Waiting time ~40min

It was one of the best Chinese restaurants that provides the real good foods by the real chef. Foods proves how the chef is very good. Don't need to give compliments for his foods because it is just true what his foods dominated me. His food telling chef doesn't need any chemical ingredients to be added. His food made me finish all of the food because it was just more than good. I was impressed and feeling good after all. His food made me happy, this is my best expression what I can describe his food. Thanks what I could have a happy night with your food 🙏

My 1st time visiting, I never tried the old shop before. Personally, i liked the taste of their food. They used good quality ingredients to make up their dishes. Was stunned with the taste of their fried kangkong. The taste of the belacan was so fragrant. The curry fish is a bit on the oily side, but it's still good. The steam salted fish minced pork has the taste of the natural sweetness from the fresh ingredients used. Overall, the food is good, but the setback is the waiting time. It's very crowded, so we have to wait around 40 to 60 minutes for food to be served.

Testing 1234 Trying out the new restaurant ( actually not new. Just reopen 🤭🤭🤭) Ordered two dishes to tryout. Stir-fried Shredded cabbage with dried shrimp . RM15 Yummy dish. Can taste the sweetness of the shrimp yet not salty. Flavour was just nice. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Assam Prawn ( Tamarind Sauce Prawn) RM30 For me the Tamarind is not enough and too watery. Is more towards salty side instead of sour. ( although the dish is not salty) 🌟🌟🌟 Sambal One of the best. Can easily eat with rice without any dishes.🤭🤭🤭 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Puer Tea RM3 Overall is a good place to dine in. FYI have to come early before it open for business. Saturday and Sunday come around 11.15am and 6.15pm. Weekdays 6.15pm . No reservation . First come first serve.

Crowded, waited almost 30-40min. Rice is harden was not cooked well, stingray curry is a big disappointed compared to the old restaurant , no ginger flower, taste is not authentic at all, however sambal kang kong and assam prawn still ok

See Kong Ooi finally reopened its door again. A new place at Lebuh Noordin within an heritage building. I read lot of negative comments below however in my personal visit i think long wait is true as the restaurant was almost fully packed just after 6:30pm. So hello people, if you cant wait you shall find other place for food. With just 1 cook it surely takes time to cook every dish. This is not a fast food chain. The deco is indeed very nice and thoughtful to preserve all old antique heritage building wall and good lighting. Is much better than the old place where they used to be. We ordered the typical favourites and the taste were just excellent as good as the old days. I think there is still room for improvement as they just back to business. Parking could be limited and due to strong crowds even during weekday i strongly suggest diners shall come early at 6pm to skip the queue and easier to find parking. Avoid weekends if possible. No credit card at this time, just cash or ewallet.

I like the food in this restaurant, the environment is nice and the food is delicious, the menu states food size M but it looks like the S portion looks small. If big group may need to order more. 🤭

This restaurant serves home cooked hokkien dishes. Nice homely ambience around with nostalgia furniture and pictures. The cooking here is simple and nice. Do try their assam prawns, stir fried kangkong, sting ray curry, deep-fried shrimp paste chicken, and fish balls seaweed soup. Service here is overall good and fast.

1st thing first: make your booking on weekends unless you don’t mind waiting Crowded with people waiting outside for seats. Thankfully we’ve made booking for our dinner and our table is secured. The decoration is modest and neat. Staff service is fairly fast & good in view of their busyness The dishes are not fanciful but authentic home cooked style. Portion of food can not quite justify its pricing.

So glad that you make a comeback after hiatus from MCO. The relocation to the new place is much cozier without losing the nostalgic feel of the old setting. The food tastes good and is friendly on the pocket. Worth the visit again and again.

Has been a pilgrimage stop on every visit to the island, and its reopening and relocation to a new place is a welcome relief. Its Kó·-chá-bī is reminiscent of the way home-cooked meal used to be. Steamed Pork, Asam Prawns, Belacan Chicken & Asam Fish would have one drooling.

It was already full house few minutes past 6.30pm on weekend. Popular among locals, delicious food and reasonably priced. Good service

Nicely renovated place serving local home cooked food. The taste is OK but portion is small despite us ordering Large. The prawns served to us were not fresh. Parking is also a big challenge.

👍 A friend highly recommended me to visit this restaurant when I travel to Penang. No regrets making my way there as the food is amazing and the pricing is also very reasonable. Don’t mind to visit this place again real soon.

😠 I reached at around 2:30pm and still need to queue till 3:00 pm. Disappointed with the food because the deep fried fish roe and fish are hard rather than crispy. The gravy is also so so only.

👍 Queue seemed quite long when we arrived around 2.30 pm but we only waited about 20 minutes. I think they should have more signage to tell customers what to do so the process can be easier. There was only one waiter upstairs in the seating area so it was quite difficult to get his attention. Food is...
