We love the food very much. It is so flavourful and delicious. Highly recommended onion chicken with tomato rice. The deep fried tiger prawn and the squid were amazing.... We had lunches almost every day there when we were in Penang.

The nasi kandar is very good. Tasty curries and rice, and this is a famous old cafe. Plenty of tourists and popular. Come here for a historic vibe and old world charm.

Important information before you dine here. The restaurant consists of 2 sections. The 1st is where you select your dish and then pay. Then you walk out and turn left to the other section where u dine and order drinks. Pay drinks only at 2nd restaurant. The dining area is very clean and consists of 2 floors. I recommend the baby crabs. It was crunchy and nice. 1st time we tried it and we liked it.

Located on Campbell Street, Hameediyah Nasi Kandar is one of the most famous and long-standing nasi kandar spots in Penang. There's almost always a queue, and for good reason — the food is absolutely worth the wait. The variety of dishes available is impressive. On my visit, I spotted some unique options like rabbit curry and fried baby sea crab alongside the usual crowd-pleasers. You can choose between plain white rice or nasi briyani (fragrant yellow rice) as your base, depending on your mood. The process is a bit unique: you select your dishes at one shop, pay there, and then you're redirected to another unit to dine. Over at the dining area, you can order your drinks, wash your hands, use the toilet, and settle your drink bill separately at the counter after your meal. Overall, the food is amazing and full of flavor — rich curries, vegetable dishes, and aromatic rice that truly hit the spot. It's no wonder this place remains a favorite among locals and tourists alike. Highly recommended if you're in Penang and craving a truly satisfying nasi kandar experience!

Super local authentic foods. Very appetite foods. Need to order fried Chicken, tiger prawn, lamb shack. And their staff is friendly too. They bring the foods to the table if you go with a group of people. Not pricey.

Hameediyah restaurant was established since 1907. For a restaurant to survive such a long period of time, it must be cooking some good food. And it was really true! There were 2 parts of the restaurant, and they're separated approximately 2-3 shops away. The one part was the place for us to pick or order our food and pay for it. The other part was the place where we eat & order drink. Comfortable dining area with aircon & there was a toilet inside. It was my first time trying Nasi Kandar. So i asked the server for a recommendation. Since i chose chicken as my protein, and i liked spicy, he chose ayam bawang - garlic chicken as my meal. Biryani ayam bawang biasa - spicy sticky chicken which was tasty & gave a little kick. On top of the biryani rice, poured sooo many sauces of the other food's. It was flavor explosion. Aromatic, salty, umami & rich in taste. And another plate of: -Nasi biryani -Ayam goreng berempah -Lamb shank - it was super tender & we could tell it was cooked with aromatic herbs & simmered for a long time. There was bone marrow inside the bone. A bit pricey for the lamb shank 55 ringgit, but it was meaty and delicious. Next time we'll choose diced mutton instead of the shank part. -Telur rebus It was a memorable moment, and i can't wait to eat Nasi Kandar again on my next trip to Penang.

I was told this is one of the best nasi kandar in penang. Personally, it is not. We ordered the lamb shank, which is very dry and stale. The mutiara chicken is average. The sotong curry is pathetically small. Well I think I don't have to mention the vegetable. Conclusion, I am NOT giving it a second chance. Sorry for that...........

One of the better kandar in Georgetown. Order the 2 types of chicken - equally good. Sauces were heavenly. Onion omelette was also thick & tasty. Air cond room was inviting on a hot day! Total price RM$28.

Came here for dinner during a normal weekday and there was no queue. Just order your food at the main shoplot and they will lead u to your table in the other shoplot. Anyway, the food is just delectable with strong and spicy flavours. It causes me to sweat even though this restaurant is air-conditioned. Anyway, the service is fast and the atmosphere is better than most Nasi kandar restaurants out there due to the aircon. I would say that this oldest Nasi Kandar restaurant in Penang does not disappoint. Just that the price is definitely on the premium side for a Nasi Kandar in Penang. An awesome try indeed.

Food is overated and overhyped. The taste is absolutely normal. Could have given them 4 or 5 stars if the food tasted different in a good way compared to other nasi kandar out there but sadly its not. Those travelling all the way and queuing up can actually just try to eat in normal nasi kandar as the taste is the same. Can try once just for the experience. Otherwise NORMAL.

Can't comment on the dining in experience as we got our meal delivered but the food itself was delicious! There were several vegetarian sides which made my veggie boyfriend very happy as there usually isn't too many at nasi kandar places. We highly recommend the aubergine curry, bitter gourd fritters, pickled onions and garlic and the omelette if veggie. The fish (ikan) curry and gravy were also excellent. Despite being more expensive than other nasi kandar places, the potion sizes were very generous - more than enough for a large dinner each and lunch the next day.

IT SHOULD TASTE LIKE PENANG. NOT KL. I came to Hameediyah with my friend and my mother, expecting the comfort of a good plate of nasi kandar. Instead, what I got was an experience that felt half-show, half-food — and only slightly satisfying. The queue was long, as expected — but that’s not the problem. What really threw me off was the behaviour of certain people in the line. There were customers more focused on filming themselves than ordering their food. Loud TikTok narrations. Tripods set up in the middle of walkways. People posing with plates while others waited patiently behind them. It was disrespectful, disruptive, and honestly, exhausting. If you came here for makan, you had to push past a content-creator circus just to get to the counter. When it was finally my turn, I stood in front of a wide range of lauk, trying to decide. Classic kuah campur for me — I like the chaos, the flavour, the mess. The prawns caught my eye — fat, glossy, drowning in orange curry — but I hesitated. Pricey, intimidating, and I didn’t want to be disappointed. So I passed. Taste-wise, Hameediyah sits in a strange space — somewhere between KL’s polished, curated tourist scene and Penang’s unapologetic bare minimum. It tries to hold onto heritage, but feels semi-delivered. Safe. Predictable. Sanitised, even. Then came my mother. No chaos, no confusion. She stood at the counter and said clearly: “Kari kambing. Sayur. Jangan campur.” No extra instructions. No need for the gravy drama. Even the abang hesitated — like her request went against some kind of nasi kandar rulebook. But she didn’t flinch. Her plate was focused, grounded, and quietly bold. It reminded me that sometimes, less truly is more. We also shared a murtabak, which unfortunately, was the low point of the visit. Murtabak should be judged by how generous it is with filling, how thick it folds, how the meat spills at the edge. Hameediyah’s wasn’t a textbook — it was a primary school exercise book. Thin, underfilled, dry. Definitely not worth the price tag. I’ve had better from pasar Ramadan stalls under plastic tents, wrapped in oily brown paper. To me, a good nasi kandar should haunt you after the meal. It should cling to your fingers with spice, leave your shirt faintly smelling of curry, and stay with you for hours — in all the best ways. But Hameediyah didn’t do that. It felt… semi-delivered. Like someone had wrapped up a memory and served it reheated. Come here if you want to say you’ve been. Take your photos, maybe even enjoy a decent plate. But if you’re looking for that true, finger-staining, gravy-sticking-to-your-spoon experience — the one that tastes like a messy plate at 11am in Penang or Butterworth — you’ll need to keep looking.

As soon as you arrive, they treat you like family. They help you order, walk you through everything, so friendly and funny. I loved my experience here. The mutton and nasi kendra is worth the hype. I’m so glad i managed to eat here before leaving Penang!

i've been to hameediyah a few times now and it never disappoints. the kuah campur are rich and full of flavour - memang surrrrr ! dining area is comfortable and air-conditioned. price wise, it's about the same as most other nasi kandar spots - pretty average and worth it for the taste and portion.

I was recommended this restaurant by a local Penang islander to get the best and most authentic Nasi Kandar, and it did not disappoint! Many thanks to the lovely man who explained the method in which locals order and eat Nasi Kandar when we entered. Simply choose your meat, rice, sides and spice level. Pay for your food and walk to the building next door to sit down and order drinks. Incredible food! When I was paying for my drinks one of the owners explained the restaurant has been in Penang since 1907 and has been managed by numerous generations of the same family. Wow, thanks for great experience!

They have the best ayam bawang in town! Price have been increased from the last time I visit (about a year ago). But still affordable and reasonable. Nasi beriani and ayam bawang for RM16. If you go for fancy dishes eg. biq squid, tiger prawn etc definitely the price will hike up but I would say, it's gonna be worth. Queue a bit long during lunch hour, please expect to line up along the sidewalk (no roof) but there are many umbrellas provided (protect you from super bright sunny day or rainy day). Parking is quite an issue. I always come here by Grab. Above all, I will still visit here each time I come to Penang again next time.

Truly the best Nasi Kandar you’ll get in Penang - we got the ayam (chicken) and had no regrets whatsoever. The rice here contains a crazy amount of flavor & the curry that they put on top is so lush and rich. Remember to try the mango lassi on the side for a sweet hit in between bites. Absolutely loved the murtabak which is supposed to be the best in all of Penang as well - it’s like a savoury pancake and freshly made

the food is great, too much flavour, this is positive or negative depending on your personal taste, service is fast for food, but the drinks can be a bit slow. but the one thing I hate is the amount of people cutting q, and still don't know what to eat, holding the hold line "hostage" cutting queues should not be allowed and the restaurant can a bit more strict in this area, otherwise everything should be perfect experience.
