When walking in the evening using the Strava application, you can see the Buddhist places of worship, architecturally the building is very beautiful, the facade and the monastery gate are golden yellow, there are many quite sacred places. suitable for praying for his people. The location is quite strategic on Jalan Perak Georgetown Penang He said that if he could lift the mini Buddha statue in the main room his prayers would be answered, it was said that only people with a clean heart could lift it.

Wat Buppharam Thai (Siamese) Buddhist Temple locates slightly away from the more popular Wat Chaiyamangalaram and Dhammikarama Burmese Temple but it is still considered to be located at Pulau Tikus area (Address:- No. 8. Jalan Perak, George Town, Penang Island, Malaysia. This relatively small but old Thai Buddhist temple complex was built in 1942 by a Thai Buddhist monk named Phothan Srikheaw, who was regarded as the first Chief Abbot of this temple. The founding father of the temple is honored by a gold leaf covered image, together with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Chief Abbot of this temple, located at the front portion, near to the main building of this temple. The temple grounds are decorated with various mythical religious creatures, such as the traditional Thai Nagas, and deities that popular Thai religion "borrowed" from other cultures, a mixture of Hinduism and Taoism. The statue of Ganesha, the elephant headed Hindu deity is placed at the main entrance. On the left, there is a beautiful shrine consecrated to the goddess Kuan Yin, a Mahayana Bodhisattva, and on the far side leading to the burial grounds, there is a small shrine to the Land God, a Taoist deity. In spite of its modest size, Wat Buppharam has arguably one of the largest temple arches in Penang. Wat Buppharam is sometimes referred as The Temple of the Lifting Buddha. The name was deprived from a mini Buddha statue which was placed at one of the room to let visitors/worshippers seeking for spiritual guidance for personal and/or business matters. The Lifting Buddha is one of the main tourist attraction of this relatively old Buppharam Thai Buddhist Temple and hopefully, the creation of this site will help to provide an addition of another interesting local tourist location in Penang.

A Therawada Buddhist temple with Thai tradition. Nice and colourful archictecture similar to Thailand. Came here to offer prayers and make wishes. Yes, you can ask about your wishes from 'The lifting Buddha'.

Thai-style Buddha statue accompanied by a collection of captivating sculptures. This place attracts numerous tourists, and the staff is known for their warm and hospitable nature. It is recommended to explore the legends and stories behind these statues by searching online while lighting a candle.

A huge temple where you can pray around. The interesting part here was the lifting buddha for visitors where you can "ask" buddha whether your dream will come true by lifting the buddha twice

Visiting the temple is a regular ritual for my family. Yes, the frontage of the temple with its ornate carvings n garish paint job is striking, deliberately eye catching and attracts tourists. Less obvious is the back of the temple. Here we see that the temple isn't that well-kept as one may think. There is a squarish courtyard with overgrown grass, paper n plastic items litter the ground n unsightly litter bins placed awkwardly here and there. "Indah khabar dari rupa" is an appropriate Malay expression. Temple maintenance simply not good enough. Temple committee, please note. Cleanliness is next to godliness.

I saw this temple during my short stay in Penang. It's interesting, has multiple statues inside with beautiful carvings art work and a small fish tank that's most favorite for kids.

Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5 This is one temple I have patronized since young. The volunteers and the monks of the temple are very helpful and ever-ready to assist in any matters. The expansion of temple gives more space for big events such as Kathina. The whole temple gives you a warm and serene feeling during visit. Lots of parking within the premise itself.

Clearly numbered altars (over 20 of them) for you to pray in sequence. Do read the sign at each altar informing you to place either 3 or 1 joss sticks. Also try 'lifting' the mini buddha statue in the inner hall. Hearsay only people with clear conscience can lift up.

This is one of the happening Thai Buddhist temples in Penang (during festive periods). There're many spots for devotees to venerate including the main hall. Particularly interesting is the Luang Phuo York Buddha statue located inside the main hall towards the back. Go check it out with an open mind, not with doubtful closed mind.

Nice & serene temple surrounded by lush greenery in the heart of town. Devotees can pay tribute to Lord Buddha & the Goddess of Mercy in the main temple building. There's also a shrine for ancestral worship. Other than shady trees & beautiful plants, the monks here also grow their own vegetables for daily consumption.

Wat Buppharam (Pulau Tikus, Penang, Malaysia) is situated at #8 Jalan Perak. This Thai temple is renowned for the statue of Luang Phor York (the "Lifting Buddha"), Luang Phor Thuard, Sreewali, The Four Faces Buddha and lots more. Get the holy water home to bathe and be blessed ... for believers.
