The old townscape of Kawaramachi

Tourist attraction Historical landmark

👍 For a landscape conservation area like this, there seem to be a lot of modern houses. However, it blends in well with the townscape.

Looks like a strip of Gion District in Kyoto. When I went in a Monday afternoon, there was barely anyone there. Lots of traditional looking restaurants line the street

(Translated by Google) I was thinking of coming to Kawaramachi once before, but I couldn't go because the parking lot was full, but I walked around the quiet streets on weekdays in front of Golden Week. This is also a really tasteful cityscape with a lot of old streets on both sides of the cobblestones, but there are also old traditional houses in places a little away from here and near Gifu Park, so it is a really fun cityscape as an old townscape fan. is.

Originally I was just wandering around after coming down from Gifu Castle, but later I found out that it is a quiet and peaceful spot with full flavor. Some machiyas hold events, and I happened to meet them this time.

Loved taking a walk down this street. Really good food vendors nearby.

After going to Gifu Castle, I took a walk. It takes about 5 minutes on foot from the Gifu Park Omiyacho parking lot. First, you will see the Nagara River Cormorant Fishing Terminal, and if you turn left, you will see the old townscape of Kawaramachi for about 200 meters. Since it was a weekday, there weren't many people, so I was able to take a leisurely stroll. It's not a lively place, but there are some quaint buildings scattered about, giving you the feel of a castle town. There is also Nagaragawa Onsen, so I think it would be nice to enjoy the brown hot water.

There are a few old style Japanese shops but again really not much for a non Japanese speaking tourist.

Don't know if the purely "genuine" feeling strikes me, hur the houses are rebuilt in a clssical manner so, ok, worth seeing while in Gifu!

It's a very quaint place. I think you'll especially enjoy it if you're interested in old buildings and history.

Unique traditional village professionally managed. You can find some shops, selling various stuffs, from food to handcrafted goods. At night you can enjoy cormorant fishing.

Many shops are closed. Not sure it’s related to COVID or not.

On weekdays, the store was completely empty, which made me feel very disappointed.
