I
successfully
walked
across
this
bridge
from
Giurgiu,
Romania
to
Ruse,
Bulgaria
on
7
November
2023.
Some
things
to
note
if
you
are
interested
in
crossing
the
border
this
way:
1.
If
you
have
done
other
bridge
border
crossings,
you
may
be
used
to
seeing
two
immigration
offices
-
one
before
the
bridge
where
you
“stamp
out”
of
the
country
you
are
leaving
and
another
after
the
bridge
where
you
stamp
into
the
country
you
are
entering.
This
bridge
does
not
work
that
way;
instead,
it
just
has
one
shared
immigration
building
on
the
Bulgarian
side
of
the
bridge.
There,
you
will
receive
your
Romanian
exit
stamp
and
your
Bulgarian
entry
stamp.
It
works
similarly
if
you
are
walking
in
the
opposite
direction.
So
you
do
not
need
to
stop
for
anything
until
you’ve
crossed
the
bridge.
2.
On
the
Romanian
side,
there
is
not
a
sidewalk
for
a
short
while
from
the
toll
booth
to
the
start
of
the
bridge,
but
there
is
a
narrow
shoulder
you
can
walk
on.
There
weren’t
too
many
cars
on
the
road
the
day
I
walked
so
it
wasn’t
too
sketchy.
The
bridge
has
a
sidewalk
the
whole
way.
Coming
from
Romania,
the
first
part
of
the
bridge
is
a
bit
narrow,
but
doable.
Eventually
it
gets
wider.
If
you
are
bringing
luggage,
I
wouldn’t
carry
anything
other
than
backpacks.
3.
I
walked
on
the
south/west
side
of
the
bridge
(right
hand
side
coming
from
Romania)
and
there
were
no
obstacles
in
the
way
(I
did
notice
a
crane
on
the
other
side
that
some
people
have
mentioned).
But
there’s
a
lot
of
trash
and
rusty
metal
you
probably
wouldn’t
want
to
touch.
4.
There’s
a
part
of
the
bridge
once
you
get
across
the
river
to
the
Bulgarian
side
where
it
appears
someone
crashed
through
the
fence
and
it
has
not
been
repaired.
It’s
a
pretty
far
drop
down
and
honestly
kind
of
sketchy.
Would
not
recommend
looking
down
if
you
are
afraid
of
heights.
The
option
also
exists
to
hop
the
guardrail
and
briefly
walk
in
the
street.
5.
When
you
get
to
passport
control,
I
used
the
lane
the
truckers
use,
because
they
get
out
of
their
trucks
and
walk
up
to
the
window
(whereas
car
drivers
stay
in
their
vehicle).
Passport
control
was
very
quick
and
easy.
Just
a
couple
other
truckers
in
line
in
front
of
me
and
the
process
was
fast.
Maybe
a
couple
minutes
total.
You
hand
your
passport
to
the
Romanian
agent,
he
stamps
it,
passes
it
to
the
Bulgarian
agent,
and
then
you
get
it
back.
Overall
it’s
a
doable
walk
and
kind
of
a
neat
experience.
The
Bulgarian
border
agent
got
a
kick
out
of
the
fact
that
I
had
walked
across.
I
don’t
think
they
get
too
many
walkers.
-1
star
for
trash
and
the
unrepaired
section
of
fence.
