There were Spanish people taking pictures of this which first attracted my attention to this statue. Apparently it's a big deal in Spain but probably not here, that's a pity because it's probably more about Scotland than Spain and our socialist past. The plaque on the statue states that 2000 Scots fought in Spanish civil war a quarter of them died. I wonder how many people would now die for Socialism? Their too busy fighting anonymously on Twitter but then again the pen is mightier than the sword.

La Pasionara or "The Passionflower" in English is a stylized female figure. La Pasionara references Dolores Ibárruri, a heroine of the Spanish Civil War, who was known by that her sobriquet. An almost featureless, the statue is nevertheless full of movement, arms raised crying out for justice. It honours both Ibárruri and the British volunteers of the International Brigade who fought on the side of the republican forces against the Fascists Nationalists

It's a small and beautiful statue with arms raised very adjacent to the hand bridge and by the side of river Clyde. There is a glass garden and walkway by the side of river. The lighting is beautiful here in the evening with multiple bridges involved. Good place to sit and relax and have a walk in the evening!!

(Translated by Google) On the banks of the River Clyde you can see the sculpture of Dolores Ibarruri with the caption: “The city of Glasgow and the British Labor movement pay tribute to the courage of the men and women who went to Spain to fight fascism in 1936-39. 2,100 volunteers were from Great Britain; 534 died, 65 of whom left Glasgow ” (Original) A orillas del río Clyde puedes ver la escultura de Dolores Ibarruri con la leyenda:  “La ciudad de Glasgow y el movimiento laborista británico rinden tributo al coraje de los hombres y mujeres que fueron a España a luchar contra el fascismo en 1936-39. 2100 voluntarios fueron desde Gran Bretaña; 534 murieron, 65 de los cuales salieron de Glasgow”

(Translated by Google) Emotive I remember Pasionaria and the International Brigades that fought against fascism in Spain. The monument is next to the Clyde River in beautiful surroundings. This monument is a good example of proletarian internationalism and fills us with pride to the Spaniards who visited it. (Translated by Google) This location should be avoided after dusk, as shady characters are romping around from the lower social class. Everything a bit poorly lit and scary. People shout, consume alcohol and throw the bottles into the river. There are more beautiful places in Glasgow. Better go to a pub.

(Translated by Google) Such a mention is not found everywhere. Monument dedicated to the Scots fallen during the Spanish civil war fighting on the Republican side at the orders of the Passionflower. (Original) Una mención así no se encuentra en todas partes. Monumento dedicado a los escoceses caídos durante la guerra civil española luchando de lado republicano a las ordenes de la Pasionaria.
