There aren’t many really nice bars in this end of the city centre and I was surprised I hadn’t stumbled (figuratively or literally) into this one. Nestled off a side street of the now somewhat rundown Sauchiehall street The State Bar is beautifully decorated inside. Rich wood and brass and vintage decor but tasteful and authentic. Service was efficient and they had a good selection of modern draught ales. Highly recommended for all ages and stages

Beautiful bar with a fantastic range of beers that constantly change. Enjoy working through the chalkboard selection. Don't change a thing. 😁

Stumbled across this wonderful little traditional pub. Lady behind the bar was just lovely, welcoming and funny. We spend a lovely relaxed hour with a gorgeous pint of black gold. Just how every pub should be full of character and history.

Hate pubs that allow staff to vape behind the bar. Very unprofessional. While the other bar person is busy rolling cigarettes. 1 pint visit. Often get the feeling you're getting in the way. Great interior, cosy and usually good atmosphere. But sort out the staff.

Good old fashioned pub, where you can go for a pint, or a drink and have a conversation. Has tv's if your a sports fan. If it's music your after, Tuesday night's is the State bar blues Jam, a Glasgow institution for more than 20 years, go along to listen or play.

1st time in to get out of the cold. Round central bar with a broad selection of hand pulled ales and also the usual beers and lagers. Lots of seating and tables around the base of the walls. Lots of historic posters and flyers to read on the walls. Don't know if they do food as we were only in for a drink. Ladies loos according to my wife were clean. Don't know about the gents, didn't go. Will go back in when we're next in that part of Glasgow.

I came here alone last night to watch the rest of the rangers game, I was quite dressed up as I had been for dinner but I just wanted a drink and to sit down. I've never felt more welcome going into an establishment and I honestly hope that if you ever go by - you take a second look. Because very seldom do you feel this welcome in a bar when you're just visiting. Thank you team at 'The State', you really made my night ❤

Excellent was wondering what would still be opened and found The State Bar still open after the pandemic. Would have been five stars had it not been for the bar staff who where more interested bin talking than serving the customers. Good atmosphere and interesting surrounding.

Uk's longest running blues jam,21 years now. Great atmosphere and musicians every tuesday 8-10.45pm Jam time has changed since post covid rules reopening. Otherwise, we bring you the blues as usual.🎸 If it suits the way it is, there is no need for change..... it still suits fine.

A cosy pub that is perfect to duck into when you're in city centre. Ideal spot for a pre or post theatre beverage!!

  • 5/5 Eric T. 9 months ago on Google
Love this bar as it has loads of cask ale and real ales on draught. It's almost always busy but a Sunday midday is great for chilling when there's usually no one there if that's your thing.

Great atmosphere. The only disappointment is that we didn't find this place until the final night of our 4 night stay in Glasgow. Lovely old fashioned pub with a circular wooden bar in the centre of the main area and old pictures, etc, on the walls. And a decent range of real/craft ales available, which sadly, some of the "old fashioned" pubs don't seem to offer. Will come back next time.

I really liked the old style bar, but I'm not a fan of football on the TV on a Friday night. It would be nice if they had a jukebox or even a wee singer

A wonderful bar! Friendly and welcoming and beautiful. What a lovely manageress- very knowledgeable about all the real beers on offer. But the space itself- my God, its the sort of place you would recommend to any tourist. Great experience!

Nice bar in the theatre and opera house district. Really nice beer. Not too busy when I visited. Near Charing Cross station on the low level line.

This is a gem in the heart of Glasgow. A classic round bar with traditional fittings. Quirky quotes adorn the walls with some interesting art. It currently has six cask conditioned ales available on tap. Bar staff are welcoming and will give you a sample of the ales to try before you choose. Great pub, don't miss out if you're visiting Glasgow.

Our large group went here for a pint and was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere! The hung pictures, wooden carvings, ceiling map, and the overall craftsmanship of the interior make it a great place to come repeatedly. There's something new to see every time. The staff are amazing! The selection of beverages is very good as well. I will be trying the food next year when we're back.

We went in because it was raining basically. It was really busy and the staff weren't too bothered about masks or track and trace but to be honest they had plenty to do behind the bar. We have been here before but I've never seen it so busy (except when band playing). Service was good and choice of drinks were good as was the atmosphere. Its clean and comfortable.

We had a good time there. Nice interior with the oval bar in the middle. Dark wood. They haven't got proper single malt glasses, but whisky they recommedned was quite good.

Don't go the barn type Wetherspoons like Henglers across the road. This old pub has bags of character, cosy alcove and a horse shoe bar for those that like to stand. Well stocked bar with 4 real ales as well. Great pub and very friendly.

I used this bar when i lived in Glasgow many years ago. It was called His Nibs then. Been in the state a couple of times when in Glasgow but busy visiting relatives not many opportunities to do so recently. Glad i took this opportunity for this visit. A very nice well laid out bar with an excellent mix of beers and Malt Whiskies on offer. Have recommended to many friends who will visit my native city.
