Really great museum. The employees are full of knowledge for all your questions, especially Titanic and the harbour explosion. They have a blue macaw named Merlin and he is a ginormous sweetheart. He likes to nap in the afternoon, but he will chat with you if you approach him right. Sorry to spend so much time on the parrot, he was such a darling so no ragerts.

This museum has gone through some impressive upgrades since the last time I went. This time we went for the Titanic exhibit. Would recommend checking it out. The balcony overlooking the waterfront is worth going to for great views of the harbour and the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk.

This place was such a cool find!! I need to start by saying the people who work here were fantastic, greeted you with a smile and so friendly!! I was excited to come and see the Titanic exhibit and didn't really know what else to expect from the experience. I ended up loving the entire museum start to finish. They have a few great spots in there for some fun photo ops and a little observation deck up top overlooking the gorgeous waterfront. Tickets were priced right and we even got to wish Merlin the parrot a happy birthday! Check it out if you are in the area.

I highly recommend this museum for a bit of history about the area. Particularly the explosion that flattened the entire dock in the early 1900s. This was by far the most interesting part of the museum! There are also some artifacts from the Titanic. I will say that that was a bit less impressive than the explosion portion. It was really built up as a fine collection of Titanic artifacts, but there were not very many and what there was tended to be not terribly exciting (like a cabinet and a deck chair). There are guided tours of the Titanic section only that you can join. We were there at the time that a tour was being given and it was very crowded in that section. We could hear what the woman was saying and it was not really more informative than reading the signs. So I would avoid that if you want a more leisurely way to view the artifacts.

An awesome little Museum in downtown Halifax on the water front. This Museum has all sorts of cool stuff from the Halifax Explosion to the sinking of the titanic. As a local, it's always fun to pop in and visit. The prices are extremely low, which is fantastic. It's definitely a fun little activity!

Fantastic small museum. Laid out very nice and the staff were great. It was a great place to visit while downtown Halifax. Highly recommend it if you are in the area. Also a great place for children. They also have a great "huge" patio area where you can sit outside and enjoy the waterfront!

As my other museum reviews, I will say that this is a great gem. I came by due to a change in travel plans. It's well worth traveling for, with strong story telling of both Halifax and Titanic.

Nice way to spend am afternoon. It was a rainy day so we decided to check it out. Great ship reproductions as well as excellent information on the titanic and Halifax explosion. After the museum make a point to go to the cemetery where the titanic and hakifax graves and memorial are located.

Have always wanted to come here and took the opportunity when we returned for another Atlantic vacation. We found a paid parking lot near by and settled in for the day, opting to visit first in case it took a few hours of our time. The tickets were affordable at the door. Gift shop as well, has a lot of neat things in it so we came away with souvenirs. The museum is absolutely stunning. Lots of really cool war artifacts and old ship remnants (obviously) with plaques and written information for you to take in. My favourite was the miniature ships recreated in great detail. Second floor is full of them. Also has old artefacts on display that are originals. I loved the CSS ACADIA out back, visiting it is included in the price of a ticket. Loved the nautical feel as well, just too bad you can’t check the internal aspects of the ship for some reason. This museum is 100% worth it especially if you love boats & want to learn about the rich history of the area.

This should be on the "must-see" list of all visitors to Halifax. As the oldest and biggest maritime museum in Canada, it provides an excellent history of Halifax, as well as seafaring in general. You can see exhibits that range from the sinking of the Titanic, to the Halifax explosion of 1917, a history of the Mi'kmaq indigenous people, and the children's TV show Theodore Tugboat, which was inspired by Halifax. The observation deck, meanwhile, offers gorgeous views of the waterfront (see videos below), while I also enjoyed the replica that let's you feel like you are sailing on a ship (see video below)

A visit to Halifax waterfront cannot be complete without a visit to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic to see the rich sea faring history of Atlantic Canada and to see some of the artifacts from the Titanic. Especially since it was right next door to the hotel that I was staying at. Be sure to visit Merlin the pet Parrot mascot while you are there too. Enjoy all you history buffs.

What an amazing gem of a museum! It took me over 2 hours to get through the exhibits and I learned so much about the local maritime history. The cost is very reasonable. Wouldn’t appeal as much to younger children as it’s very reading heavy - would be even more incredible with some more interactive exhibits.

This museum was pretty good. Interesting stuff on the Titanic and Halifax disaster. On the second floor, there was a small theatre that played those Canadian Heritage commercials (on loop) from like twenty years ago. Such a walk down memory lane from my childhood.

I am no museum expert. I had meh expectations going in to this place. But I was very much delighted by this place. So much rich history all explain and very nicely laid out. From the Halifax explosion to shipwrecks to the titanic. Very well done and enjoyable. Never thought being educational would be a huge positive but this place just kept you want more. Spent easily a couple hours here. A very large collection of very intricate models are all around. Fascinating to think of all the work out into those. Absolutely worth the money. Great place for adults and kids. Nice gift shop inside as well. I bought a shirt. No review on the shirt yet.

Loved the museum! Lots of interesting stuff for kids and adults. The only disappointment was that we could visit the CSS Acadia. Apparently, it is open only on Tuesdays, 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:30 to 4:30 pm. 🤷‍♀️ If you have a chance, jump on a group tour about the Titanic. Our guide was incredible! The most entertaining guided tour we ever had. Outside is a good kids' playground.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is a great museum to visit. Beautiful exhibits and ship modals. I love the Titanic part but the story makes us sad. Those items got from the shipwrecks are really amazing ! A very informative and educational museum.

Very cool place to visit! Tickets are very affordable, $10 for adults. Lots to see and learn. Of course the Titanic exhibit is the main attraction and it does not disappoint. Such interesting facts to read about and to see items from the ship is amazing.

Great place to visit if you're interested to know about the history of Halifax's shipyard and harbours. They have most of the ship miniatures of all time. Also the famous Titanic and SS Atlantic's recovered artifacts. Curbside Parking is available. Free entrance on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 9pm.

The museum had a good variety of exhibits. Some of the exhibits included steam and sail ships, the issues with scavenging, the titanic, and Indigenous peoples and water/fishing rights. Would recommend the museum to others interested in local history.

We came to this place, travelling 3000km retour trip all the way from Toronto visiting all these places of interest up to PEI as family wanted me to learn about this beautiful part of Canada: - we visited the museum the next day after Lee storm kept us in our hotel and fortunately the museum was not charging any entrance fee, saving us some good money - we probably spent a few hours visiting both levels of this museum and could not resist, had to buy some black mugs to add to our collection of black mugs from around the world: they were so much cheaper here than the Freedom tower in NY - we started with the amazing boats on the ground floor and then moved upstairs where you find not info on Titanic, besides lots of info and relics from the other ships sunk in this area - there is a massive amount of salvaged pieces from the ships sunk in the last hundreds of years, if you like discovering this kind of stuff, I highly recommend to come during the week when maybe not lots of screaming kids would be around - there is also info on the massive explosion that took place 100 years ago, due to the collision between 2 ships, one being an ammunition ship, thus levelling this town: this is something you hardly learn in Europe My other half is a huge fan of this place, most surely we will be back again in the future. Another piece of advice is to consider where you park your car: we arrived before10am and we kept going in circles because we could not find a parking space. We discovered a parking spot in one of the parking spaces located towards the end of Water St: most of the roads are only one way here, so is worth planning even parking. There is a massive walking area near the water with lots of restaurants/shops/arcade and small cheap/touristy pop up icecream/snaks/burgers and other type of foods which is rather fun - check the map.

Went because my Mom wanted to go but I really enjoyed it. Excellent information and displays, especially thought the Halifax Explosion section was really well done and of course the Titanic exhibit.

Great place to see right on the water. The place has stuff for all ages and a Titanic exhibit. Lots of cool models of different ships as well.

Children & I had a wonderful day at the museum. So much to see and learn. I'm so glad we made the effort to go while we were visiting Halifax.

  • 5/5 David C. 6 months ago on Google
The museum was very interesting. The scale models of ships, both ancient and modern, and informative tutorials were very well done. There was a moving video about the devasting explosion in Halifax in 1917. I learned a lot and my grandkids loved the place.

I enjoyed learning about the history of the area as it relates to the sea. There are pictures and artifacts from the many shipwrecks over the years. There's a whole section about the Halifax explosion in 1917, and another section about the Titanic and its connection to Halifax. It was educational and really well done. It took at least two hours to get through it and I probably could have spent more time. There's also a great gift shop at the end. We had a great morning here!

An excellent maritime museum. Interesting area of Titanic info and artifacts, as well as the history of sailing, steam etc. with many models and artifacts. Also contains a comprehensive area of the 1917 Explosion that destroyed Halifax, and outside the Acadia ship that served in both World Wars. $9 entry fee is well worth it. You can easily spend hours here.

Maritime Museum was great! Lots of very interesting information and pictures to go along with it. Had many tiny models of ships including the Titanic which was great to see. Also had the CSS Acadia ship which allowed visitors to board and look around.

Reasonably fee to enter about $10 CAD. Excellent displays and use of space. Exhibition go from native inhabitants to Titanic to Halifax explosion to WW2. Lots of model and small ships. Nice harbor viewing deck to enjoy Port of Halifax. Well stocked gift shop. Went to see the Titanic exhibits and was not disappointed. Seeing the Titanic Wreckwood was a surprise element I didn't know was a thing. They have a reproduction Titanic deck chair you can sit in.

We spent a morning here exploring the exhibits. We enjoyed the section on the Titanic especially since we had seen the graves of the Titanic passengers the day before. The chandlery was open while we were there and the man at the exhibit was informative and pleasant. I totally enjoyed the time we spent here

Super interesting museum. Get to learn About the Halifax explosion, and see artifacts from the Titanic. Neat place. They also have a beautiful Macau that might be suffering from anxiety. Entrance is free in Tuesday’s after 5pm.

Fantasic small museum. Has a bit of everything from actual small boats, models and relics. The Halifax blast portion was eye opening. You need to see it as words don't describe it. Check this place out.

Neat place. Loved the models, especially. They were so intricately detailed. You could tell that a lot of time and effort had gone into their restoration, which was done by a group of volunteers! It was absolutely amazing to see.

Love this museum! It is really great because you can learn more about the history of Halifax. I recommend to attend the guided tour about the Titanic, the guide is excellent and you learn a lot of interesting facts. Also, the story about the explosion is very interesting, there is a tour about that too. For the tours, just listen when they speak over the loudspeakers or ask at the ticket office when you arrive.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is a must see in Halifax. You can learn about boat and canoe design, engine development and Maritime lighting. Then you can learn about the shipwrecks around Nova Scotia as well as the Titanic disaster and other famous wrecks and salvage operations.

This was a beautiful museum. I would go back in a heartbeat and the only reason I gave it 4 stars was because it's a lot of information and could use more adult style interactive displays. I was really impressed with their Titanic display! Definitely worth checking out when you're in Halifax!

  • 5/5 Patricia D. 10 months ago on Google
The museum is rich in history and information. The most visited areas are those that tell the story of the Titanic and the explosion. But the whole museum is very interesting, and the miniatures are very detailed and beautiful.

Definitely one of the coolest museums I've been to. I've never been to a maritime museum, but have always wanted to go. Interesting even for the kids. So much information on boats, shipwrecks, the Halifax disaster, and the Titanic. Many artifacts from the Titanic at this location. Really enjoyed the room with all of the sailboats. There is a ship outside that you can tour as well, however it was closed when we wanted to tour it. Two floors of information. You could spend at least 4+ hours here. We spent about 2 hours and definitely did not get through it all. Lots to learn about!

  • 5/5 TheArchitect 9 months ago on Google
There are 2 floors to the museum. When you enter, there's a information display to your left that talks about the history of the building that houses the museum. In front of you is where you pay for your admission. Adult admission is $9.55. The day we went, they were showing a special short 11 min film about the Titanic: The Halifax Story between 11 am to 12 pm on the second floor in their mini theatre. There's another movie that plays. About the Bluenose. Another movie called Sable Island plays, 28 min. They seem to show different movies, with different times. I caught the tail end of the Bluenose movie. The last movie today is Sable Island. The museum workers show movies on days that are particularly busy, to thin out the crowds in the exhibits. The walking onto the deck of the CSS Acadia wasn't open, cause of the rainy weather. On the ground floor, there's a person working on assembling model ships. There are lots of model ships. There is history here about the Halifax Explosion. There is a Indigenous exhibit. They have a parrot in a cage here named Merlin. The second floor has history about the Titanic and Nova Scotia shipwrecks. Artefacts of the Titanic can be found in the displays. And a lot of model ships. There's an area about sailing as well.bthe floorboards creak very loudly- I assume to mimic the creaky floorboards of an actual ship. The day we went, it got pretty busy as time passed. We spent about 5 hours here. Surprisingly a good museum. Was much more than we expected.

  • 5/5 Lisa D. 9 months ago on Google
Total enjoyed the Maritime Museum! So much history, it was busy, the items are so interesting. Would love to return. The Titanic section was so interesting as was the Halifax explosion.
