Friendly staff, but the restaurant (at 2:30 pm on a Friday afternoon) was filled with noisy vagrants. The place smelled not so great (like mold and 1940's wallpaper). My family was terrified. That being said the staff was patient with all the madness around and the fries and drinks were fine. I would not stay in this hotel though, which really is too bad because the it's right next to the train station and those vintage wrap around lunch counters are beautiful, so the genius that totally revamps and restores the place will be sitting on a gold mine IMO. But again at the moment it's a flop house with its own dive bar, so unless you're into that sort of thing I'd stay away. Or if you're a entrepreneur into vintage hotels, please buy it and show it some love ❤❤❤.

The owner is a really sweet old man. Staff are very sweet as well. Food was good. I had coffee every morning an was always treated with respect. People were very friendly an the room was small, but they have things to help easy living. Not bad priced either. I would stay again

Seriously quirky and totally unpretentious old school diner / bar right across from the train station. Not for those looking for fancy fare and linen tablecloths, but I enjoyed the deep fried halibut and fries, although I shouldn't eat so much fried food at my age. Would have spent the night but they were full up. American Graffiti.

All I can say is that, this place has a lot of character& characters! The Alva has been around since the 1930s, I believe, used to be a butcher shoppe/meat market. The restaurant is only open in the morning from like 7am-10am. The bar is no longer open. And if you get a room there, it is what you make it!

Great food. Booze is a little pricey but they have it all here. Also the rooms r clean and most of the staff are very respectful.

They have a major bed bug problem and the owner refuses to do anything about it

This is a horrible place! They charge people 600 dollars a month for a room with no air conditioning. The bar tenders are crack heads . And the service is horrible.

Get what u pay for. Quick food & cheap, hard liquor. No complaints. Though, I wouldn't stay the night unless it was 'last resort'.
