We got the special, one with kraut and the other without. Fantastic! I think they call kraut slaw in these parts. It's been a minute since I've had a good sloppy chili dog and this chili is a lil sweet with a lil kick. 2 dogs with chip and drink won't even cost you over $10. I definitely need to get back here for the burgers. A great pit stop traveling through Birmingham. Customer service was A-1 and the building is not wide so expect to be in a tight side. But the people felt like fam and they get you out quick. You must stop here!

If you are following the industrial era hot dog trail as it weaves through the Midwest and Deep South, Gus's is definitely worth a stop. Really friendly people, quick service, and interesting flavor on the chili. I'd say it comes closest to the Greek inspired Cincinnati Skyline chili, with that hint of Mediterranean flavor, but it's not as strong - and that works really well with the dog. I was there on business and hope to be back again. If I am, I'll definitely stop through Gus's. It's worth it. Wish I had something genius to add, or some brilliant insight - about the only thing I can think of is that it's open and serving during the pandemic, so stop by!

I've been coming here since the 90's. This is the perfect dive bar, but be careful around lunch time because it's packed, otherwise you're in and out! The food is always delicious!

Love this place and the guys that work there. They are always super nice. It's a busy and small place, but it doesn't take any longer than you should expect at any place in downtown Birmingham during the lunch rush in a business district. In my opinion, most people posting negative reviews either have unrealistic expectations or had the rarity of a bad experience and should definitely give this place a second chance. I am also posting pics of the menu and prices as of May 2019 for anyone who is interested.

For starters, it’s easy to miss as it’s a very small place but wow was it worth stopping in for! I walked in and told them I’m from SD and I travelled 1,100 so I just simply want to be impressed. I got the chili cheese dogs without onions and it was DELICIOUS! Both men were polite gentleman and made my first meal in Birmingham one to remember. Definitely recommend!

This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. It’s probably 400 square feet max. 2 cooks behind the grill taking and making orders. The hotdogs are delicious as was the double cheeseburgers. The hotdogs are small you will want to get 2-3 of them, but the food is Fairly priced and cheap. As a Hispanic man, I love supporting minority owned businesses which makes this place even better. If I am ever driving through Alabama, il definitely stop by again.

Best Chili dog this side of the Mississippi. Very friendly place and you feel welcome when you walk in the door. Highly recommend for locals or if you were a guy swinging through town like me.

First off I would like to say their customer service was great. I’m pregnant and it was my first time there so I was kind of undecided on what I wanted but they were patient. And the hot dogs were the best I ever had. 10/10 recommended. This will definitely be my after work spot from now on.

Very good Lunch spot. I have been past there and the line was out the door. I figured it must be Guud!!!!! And WAS!!!! If you are in the mood for a good Hot Dog, Gus's is the place. The burgers sound good too. I'm going to try that next time. Support your local business. You never know if you are walking past a Gem!!!

There are several Gus's hot dog places near Birmingham. This one is apparently the original, too small to sit and enjoy a meal with friends. Barely any available parking. The service was great and quick. The special dog was delicious. The chili cheese dog had a burnt taste to the chili. In my opinion the irondale location has the better chili cheese dog. But this location has a good special dog, take it to go, be prepared to wait in line during peak times.

Time tested short order joint serving hot dogs, burgers, and bologna sandwiches. Highly recommend the chili and slaw dogs - some of the best in the south. The inside is tiny and it gets busy even during a weekday, but the staff is quick and accommodating and you'll be on your way with a great inexpensive meal in no time at all

Food: I ordered 3 hotdogs and they all were made fresh and very tasty. I had them to go but it was still good. Service: Small diner but very friendly and quick. I ordered 2 Special dogs and a chill and cheese but got 3 special dogs. Outside of this issue it is definitely a good place to come if you are feeling like a hotdog.

This "hole in the wall" has amazing dogs and a great burger. The fellas behind the counter were energetic and hilarious and very patient with these first-time customers figuring out what to order. Our order of combos, Specials and a burger (wife can't eat cured meats and sausage) were up fast, and devoured enthusiastically. The place is small and a tight squeeze when busy, but that just adds to the vibe. We fed four people lunch for under $20 (less tip). A serious winner we tripped upon, and we'll be back.

I wasn't that impressed with my hot dogs. The bread wasn't fresh and the variety of chips were not that good.

Anyone that's lived in BHM knows Gus's Hot Dogs.. just cant get any better. And if you don't, use your Google Maps because it's a hole in the wall, literally. Highly recommend 💯

If you enjoy a great hot dog and haven't tried Gus's, then you're yet to understand what makes a great hot dog. A definite must-try that will turn into a regular stop. Service is fast and friendly. Plan accordingly because the joint stays jumping.

Small, but clean. You order your food, then leave. No sitting down and the two guys taking your order and preparing your food are cool, calm and collected!

Me and my daughters were visiting a bookstore on a street over and I happened to see this place. I use to work downtown years back when I last ate there. Better than I remember! Yes there is no seating but that is part of the experience. We will be back for sure! Something tells me they have some great hamburgers. We had hot dogs this go around. Thanks!

Hometown hole in the wall. Super nice and efficient. They have veggie burgers! And plan to order veggie dogs. And they cooked my food on a separate grill to avoid cross contamination. I appreciate them.

There is nothing about this place that I wouldn't recommend. It's THE ONLY Gus' Hotdogs in my opinion. Don't be fooled by other places with the same name. This Gus' is the best and original. Hotdogs are perfection as is EVERYTHING else served here. There is a reason Andrew Zimmerman made an impromptu pitstop here and nowhere else when he was filming in B'ham. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the slaw dog!

Great bologna sandwich!! Small place though. Not much room to move around. We were able to get my cousins large wheelchair inside tho so big enough I suppose

👍👍 This was my first time at Hattie B’s and I can’t believe I waited this long. It was absolutely the best chicken I have ever had! The Pimento Mac and Cheese was fire! The Bacon Cheddar grits were good but nothing too special. The Potato Salad was to die for!!! I made sure to save room for dessert and...
