The Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant is a nuclear power plant located in Bangladesh. It is the country's first nuclear power plant and is situated in Ruppur, Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna District. The plant is being developed with Russian assistance and features VVER-1200 reactors. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, the plant was under construction, with plans to provide a significant source of electricity for Bangladesh once operational. For the latest updates on its status and progress, I recommend checking recent news sources or official government statements.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. Bangladesh is going to enter the international club of nuclear power producing countries. Today (October 5), Bangladesh is going to join this club as the 33rd country by receiving fuel uranium for the first unit of the country's Rooppur nuclear power plant. The first unit of the Rooppur nuclear power plant has already been declared suitable for the use of uranium by the Russian contractor Rosatom and the international organizations in this sector. In this context, on September 28, Russia sent 168 TPS (uranium bundles, each weighing 7.5 kg) to the country. Today Thursday (October 5) the country will hand over the special certificate and operating model to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, which is called 'Hands over the Certificate of Fuel Delivery and Model of the Fuel Assembly to the Architect'. On this day, the Director General of Russian Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, will hand over this certificate and model to the Minister of Science and Technology Ministry of Bangladesh, Yafes Osman, at Rooppur, Project Ekala Pabna. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin will address the handover ceremony virtually. Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman inspected the preparations for the event on Wednesday (October 4). At that time, the minister said, "From the beginning of 2025, the people of Bangladesh will get the benefits of the nuclear power being produced at Ruppur. This plant will contribute 2 percent to the country's GDP." A total of 2,400 MW of electricity will be available from the two units of Rooppur with 1,200 MW. This fuel for Rooppur is coming from Russia. These uranium are prepared in Novosibirsk factory located in the Siberian region of Russia. According to the contract, Russia will supply it during Rooppur's lifetime (80 years). However, the country will supply this fuel for free for the first three years. According to the design of the power plant, the fuel will be imported from Russia throughout the period. For this reason, the price of uranium has been determined through another agreement.

Recently visited Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant and wanted to share my experience. The facility is quite impressive, with its massive infrastructure and well-maintained surroundings. The view alone sparks curiosity about the technology behind nuclear energy. However, the disappointment came when I found out that public access to the plant's interior is limited for security reasons. While I understand the importance of safety measures, it would be beneficial if there were more visitor-friendly opportunities to learn about the plant's operations. Perhaps the addition of informational displays, guided tours, or a visitor center could provide a more enriching experience for those interested in understanding the role of nuclear power in our energy landscape. Despite the limitation on exploration, the visit left me with a heightened interest in clean energy technologies.
