People have settled in the Kathmandu Valley for over 2000 years. Throughout this period, the valley has witnessed the migration of people from the high plateaus of Tibet, the fertile plains of the Ganges, and everywhere between. This intermingling of people and cultures created a vibrant and diverse society within the valley. By the 12th century, the inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley had developed a unique civilisation indigenous to the region and were known throughout the region as the Newars. They shared – and continue to share – a linguistic and cultural community bound together by a common language and culture called Newari. Newari civilisation flourished during the reign of the Malla Kings from the 12th to the 18th century. The Malla Kings profited from being a major destination along the trade route between India and Tibet, and invested heavily in their arts and culture. Part of the valley’s exports included skilled craftsmen like sculptors, painters and carvers to India and Tibet. Together, the wood works contain the centuries of love and dedication that these craftsmen had towards this artistic tradition.

The restaurant is incredible! We had a six course meal of Nepali food as part a friend’s wedding celebration. It was all delicious. The best was the pumpkin pudding and Momos!

This hotel is absolutely beautiful. With amazing antique architecture and well maintained property features a beautiful swimming pool and few restaurants to choose from. You can either go for a night stay and enjoy their first class hospitality or just go there for a lunch or dinner with your family as a way to refresh yourself from the hustle and bustle of the city. Food is amazing and the staffs are super friendly. I will definitely be a regular customer.

Our stay at this historic hotel, which oozes with a rich and captivating history was less than perfect. The allure of the beautiful bricks and remarkable architecture immediately catches your eye. The views from the hotel are absolutely breathtaking, offering stunning vistas that leave you in awe. However, as enchanting as the physical aspects of this hotel are, I couldn't help but feel a certain lack of spirit and soul during my stay. The hotel exudes an air of self-awareness about its own beauty, yet it falls short in terms of warmth and friendliness. During our stay, we encountered a few issues that left a blemish on an otherwise promising experience. We decided to bring up our concerns with the management, and to be fair, they did address our complaints and offered us some discounts as a gesture of goodwill. However, the situation took an unsettling turn when, during the process of addressing our concerns, the hotel mistakenly attempted to double charge us. Thankfully, our bank intervened, and the duplicate payments did not go through. This incident raised questions about the internal operations and competence of the hotel's management. In summary, this hotel is undeniably beautiful and steeped in history, but its service quality leaves much to be desired. It's akin to encountering a stunning individual who is fully aware of their beauty but lacks the effort to connect on a deeper level. While the aesthetic charm is undeniable, the tarnished service experience is a significant drawback.

Once they open the hotel's doors and you step in, suddenly you pass from a bustling place to a totally calm and relaxing environment. The hotel itself is like a museum, amazing decoration and enormous rooms. One of the best accommodations I have ever stayed (back in 2008 that was) all over the places I've visited so far.

One of the best stays in Kathmandu. The architecture is wonderful, the service fantastic. The rooms are extremely comfortable. As soon as you step into the beautiful, green courtyard you enter a peaceful oasis and leave the chaos of the city behind. Highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is an architectural marvel and a quiet oasis not more than 2 km from the international airport. The rooms are amazing and the court yard is wonderful. The swimming pool is lovely, nestled in amongst gardens. We stayed here because we heard they offered a set dinner of traditional Nepali foods. They do provide this menu in 6 course and 12 course and 21 course meals in a lovely setting. Having just finished 12 days touring eastern Nepal in the tea regions we had expected to experience the wonderful seasoning and spices and carried foods we had enjoyed already. Our experience was disappointing a the spices were lacking to the point of being bland. Good quality food but not in keeping with rural traditional cooking we had been fortunate to share. The Japanese restaurant was being renovated and we hope the lunch menu will see renovation as well. The spa is delightful and delivers on the promise to relax and soothe. The hotel is a high end, high priced destination that will treat you well in a fusion of western and Nepal fashion.

Pathetic hotel run by a bunch of illiterate women and extremely rude staff. Stay here only if you want to be ripped off your money for old rooms and below average food. They think very highly of themselves despite the poor services they provide for the exhorbitant prices they charge. All 5-star reviews are probably the paid reviews because you won’t see a single happy customer at this hotel. Do read 1-star reviews before booking this place.

Looking from outside it's impossible to believe there is such a beautiful hotel inside. When I entered in a evening it was truly breathtaking. I had awesome meal at their restaurant 'Fusion'. It is a little pricey but the ambience and service is worth it. I would like to come again if I get opportunity.

We didn't get to stay long enough. We were there in October 2022. The grounds are amazing the staff was impeccable the food was delicious and the room was incredible. The attention to detail and guest care is something we don't have much in the states anymore. They went above and beyond. If we ever go back we will definitely stay here again!

It was a great pleasure to visit the hotel. Nice and clean environment. Clean bathroom and room. I've enjoyed breakfast and other menus. Professional staff members. Reception good. From the roof you can see a part of town. Prime location. They have parking areas.

Our room was spacious and there were a lot of places in the common area to sit and relax. The library bar was warm and cozy. It was truly a unique experience.

Excellent heritage property.beautiful architecture and courteous staff It’s on the expensive side but for the quality of the rooms and service it’s worth it The best I liked is they are environmental friendly by not using any plastics at all Even the container used for shampoo etc is made of ceramic and zero plastic bags for dust bin and laundry bag

I only had drinks (G&T) in the courtyard. This is the most beautiful hotel built in the local style. Amazing peaceful courtyard and gardens, great service, and expensive. Affordable to any western tourist as a special treat and highly recommended.

The Dwarika’s is one of the finest hotels I’ve ever stayed at, and I have stayed around the world in places like Dubai Hong Kong and United States. This hotel was a great combination of both historic preservation and homage to the past as it has modern rooms clean, well built easy to operate, the beds were wonderful room service was phenomenal from the second I booked my room reservation I was greeted by Ram. He took care of me days before I ever got here making sure that my airport pick up was flawless that my arrival to the hotel was well coordinated, and every day checked in on my comfort, I felt like I was held in the palm of his hand throughout my stay the morning breakfast was top-notch to sit in the garden is the true definition of serenity. Its location is in the perfect part of town close to the airport close enough to city center, but not very noisy, if you’re looking for a true combination of first class experience, homage to history true comfort this is the hotel for you to stay at

The place is so beautiful mostly because of the wooden carvings and the nice decorations and garden and inside furniture. We often go to the restaurant for the Nepalese sets. They’re amazing! And the staff is very professional!

A beautiful property. Once inside the hotel, you dont feel the noise of the city. The aesthetics is amazing…. Traditional feel to a modern facility. You have everything that one needs and more. The food is amazing. The property could at times feel like a maze but tjat adds to its old world feel.

Dwarika's is a terrific hotel with 5 star service and excellent food. I am not sure there is a nicer place in Katmandu. It is like a little oasis from the bustle of the city. Staff went above and beyond to help us organize for the rest of our trip and make sure we had everything we needed.

Visiting the heritage Dwarika's Hotel for a delicious cup of masala chai and taking in the superb intricate wooden architecture is indeed a meditative experience. Some of it even dates back to the 13th century! After having tea, stop by one of the shops where you will find Narendra ready to assist you. There are also handmade soaps, lotions and creams from Dwarika's Spa available inside. Shiva, Iru, Birendra and Shekhar are all waiting to welcome you!

Every single place of this hotel met magically the highest level of elegance and comfort. Be it the reception, the gym or yoga room, there was order and a unique nepali touch. Temperature in every room was perfect. Subtle music where appropriate. Harmony was the rule. From eggs benedict and cheese variety in the breakfast to the delicate assortment of Nepalese dishes in the evening, all the food was superb (and I also had amazing carbonara in the garden tables). This hotel was the perfect add-on to the beauty of visiting Nepal, and a cozy shelter on rainy afternoons. All the staff was elegant, efficient, friendly and very professional. The security greets you with a military traditional salutation that felt warm and full of respect Congrats to the professional and friendly staff and management!
