Truly an experience of Royalty. Location, ambience, cleanliness was awesome. Though the food was just average. Summer breakfast was not great, also for vegetarians there were very few options. Even the pool had salty water which was not good for health.

Hotel Shanker provided me with an exceptional and thrilled experience! From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the hotel's stunning architecture and rich history. The beautifully restored palace exudes grandeur and elegance. The rooms were spacious, tastefully furnished, and offered a perfect blend of modern comfort and traditional charm. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring that every aspect of my stay was flawless. The on-site restaurants offered a delightful culinary journey with a wide range of delectable dishes. The hotel's lush gardens and tranquil pool area provided a peaceful oasis in the heart of Kathmandu. Hotel Shanker truly offers a luxurious and unforgettable stay that I highly recommend to anyone visiting the city.

This is an historic and old hotel. The grounds and public interior of the hotel are beautiful, classic and observe the old wealth that would have stayed in the building. Inside the rooms and some parts of the hallways you can definitely tell how old the building actually is. They have an excellent staff for all aspects of your stay and the breakfast buffet was truly wonderful.

It was shame...I asked hotel to pick us up to the airport because other hotel in Thamel is free pick up. I thought It's free but when check out Shanker hotel charge me 3000 rupie about 30 us dollar...normaly It's cost less than 10dollar by taxi in airport. garden and swimming pool is fine. also breakfast is nice. but don't use airport pick up by hotel.

Now after Corona tragic period, they have good time to renovate the hotel for first class . I really recommend for the stay but FOOD AND MEAL, this hotel still have to improve in this hot summer season. Waiter is working hard and captain and restaurant manager had no intention to talk with guest. The were busy to gussif regarding their own homeland political issues and watching YouTube. Gerrrrrrr.....

Beautiful from the outside, old and needing some updates in most areas inside. The owner is constantly working on the property but wonderful old properties like this are in constant need of attention. Expect to pay more for breakfast if you're obviously from the West. But the pool is very nice. It has a quaint little bar. And there always seems to be local activities going on. (There was a conference on malaria, a session on insurance, an engagement party and a wedding reception there during our stay!). There are also taxis always at the ready to take you where you want to go. Definitely recommend to stay here just don't expect a 5 star room.

We stayed with family for 2 nights for our Kathmandu city sightseeing. Ambience of the hotel, locality, aesthetic appeal are on the top. However, once we checked into our rooms, we found it to be claustrophobic with a little window hardly reachable. Don't be surprised if one feels claustrophobic. Bathroom is very small in size for a 4 star hotel! Coming to dining experience on the first morning we were served to a wide choices of breakfast. It was a sheer let down on the second morning as we had to contend ourselves to a limited menu leaving us totally disappointed. Dinner serving quantity may hardly fill your stomach for the overpriced dishes. Service of the staff left us bewildered with their attitude and may be reluctance to treat guests with hospitality. Parting shot! Don't go by the glitter and fame!

Very good high end hotel, it has it all, History, great location, garden, pool, Luxurious room, renovated fairly recently. The staff are pleasant and helpful with the possible exception of the reception, Who seem out of their depth in the hospitality sector and out of keeping with the rest of the hotel. Would stay here again and would highly recommend

request for newly renovated room as the other rooms are pretty dated and has a foul smell. Shower is good, water is hot and pressure is perfect. Overall clean room, breakfast is good with wide spread. Service is decent but attitude is poor and rude. Didn’t expect this from a 4 star hotel.

Located near attractions such as the Thamel district and Durbar Square, Hotel Shanker is a luxury hotel with great accomodations. The complimentary breakfast rivals Western standalone restaurants. The staff was friendly and made extra efforts to please. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The pool area was relaxing with a full complement of food and beverage options. The in-house spa received high marks from my travel companions. Highly recommended.

I had an exceptional experience here. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were extremely helpful and diligent. The breakfast, included in the price, was tasty and good quality. It wasn't well publicised, but the hotel is actually a former palace of the Rana kings (hereditary prime ministers), and it's been kept in good condition. The decor keeps with the historic palace feel. The location is very central - it's a short walk to tourist attractions and other interesting experiences for visitors. The price is also extremely fair.

Right from the entrance the property feels like a luxury. Rooms are all upgraded as per modern standards. Cleanliness and amenities were top notch. The food is average for the price they charge. Apart from that it was an excellent stay.

Stayed here again this time after seven years. They did some nice renovation work. They kept the charm of the century old palace, yet, put the modern luxury and comfort. The breakfast was fabulous as well. They need to put more local options in lunch and diner menu.

It is an old world elegance, this is what the management says. The palace is turned into a luxury hotel by one of the owners. This palace was constructed by the mighty Ranas of Nepal. The building was renovated to suit the needs of a hotel. In front of the hotel there is a huge park and a swimming pool. The rooms are well furnished and very nice. Since it was a palace, the size of the rooms couldn't be increased. As a result bath room is not big. Also because of this reason there is no outside view. Food is good but it is not of local taste. Some of the cuisines are really tasty. Staff is courteous and helpful. Tariff is not very high. Location is absolutely amazing. .

Small rooms., tiny washrooms for Double King Size room category. I had never seen such small washrooms in a 4 star hotel. Hotel building is good but it's of no use if the room is not nice. Overall average experience

Very close to thamel. They claim to be a 5 star property but i don't agree. It's a good property. Services were fine. Nothing fancy. Being a Hindu I didn't like the fact that they have named the hotel in the name of Lord Shiva and yet they serve beef. I feel foreigners can survive without beef. You can still stick to your culture and maintain the class of the hotel. I have visited better properties so I won't give it a 5 star rating.

All rooms are ‘no smoking room’. No exhaust in washrooms. That is understandable as this is an old building. Ample of parking space. Situated very close to the heart of Kathmandu. Lazimpat is very close so evenings can be real nice. There are few other good properties nearby with new construction design.

I can only conclude most reviews here are fake. This is a terrible, broken down wreck of a hotel badly and cheaply converted from whatever it was before. They have a fancy facade and lobby but its purely for show. Pretty much everything from the rooms to equipment is broken and jerry rigged. Place was also filthy in terms of carpets and bathrooms. Rooms and corridors are dark, bathrooms are dank (unvented). Breakfast is a joke, served in the basement, hardly any selection, poor quality. For example the jam for your toast was slopped out of a bucket and served in a big soup bowl next to the bread. Even the toaster barely works. Have a look at these photos - first the lobby and then details in the room. Avoid at all costs.

It's good hotel if you want to have a feel of a Nepalese palace. It's actually a palace converted to a hotel. The rooms are old, but it's nice. Needless to say food it costly.

I really enjoyed my stay at Hotel Shanker. The hotel is beautiful, located in a quiet cul-de-sac. Rooms are clean, have AC and the pool was lovely to enjoy the nice weather. Every member of staff I met was kind and helpful. The breakfast food was delicious.

Loved it. Really value for money. Also Nepalese taste. Stayed one night before at Radisson but did not feel the pricing was right. Thus moved to this hotel ! Great decision. The hotel is close to Thamel yet very quiet and peaceful. I have a Agoda VIP, so breakfast was included so was a room upgrade. A room was spacious on a top floor, with an old charm, still very functional. People are really nice. Receptionist, Mr. Shah did his best. A pool and garden area is really nice. A breakfast is adequate. Why not Five stars? 1. Food was expensive but not really good 2. Internet was not stable, needed to log in every 30mm. 3. Some functional issues such as a light bulb, AC noise etc. 4. Single room is very small, dark, not great Don’t expect a real 4-star hotel. Overall, It is a great, old value hotel. I will return to this hotel definitely !

Me and my parents stayed at Shanker hotel in the time frame from 26th April to 8th May - almost full 2 weeks. All things considered we were very satisfied with the high standards and the service the hotels provides. The rooms are well equipped and clean, the food is delicious. Some observations/recommendations I want to place: 1. As so many wedding parties took place in the time that we were there, it got a little bit noisy from time to time - windows are not really dense to keep noises outside. 2. The menu for dinner is a great selection of national and international dishes, about 20 different dishes are available. However, in case of a longer stay, like we had, the menu could be changed from time to time to provide more variety. 3. The pool: Unfortunately, I got the impression that there is a little bit too much chlorine in the water, because my eyes started to burn heavily after only a short dive. Furthermore, there could be a little bit more sunloungers around the pool (even if space is limited) and my major critics here: umbrellas are missing near that sunloungers, which means that longer stays at the pool on sunny days are just not possible. This must be changed in any case. Nevertheless, me and my family enjoyed the time at the hotel very much and we take into account to come again, once we are in Kathmandu. Thank you very much and all the best!

Wonderful oasis in the middle of Kathmandu. This is a local hotel with beautiful dark wood features, colonial style, a manicured garden with gorgeous flowers and a lovely pool. All the staff were so incredibly welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner twice in the restaurant (recommend the Nepali thali). The Family Room was spacious and had 2 queen size beds and a room safe. If you are looking for a character boutique hotel, this is the place for you.

One of the best hotel in Nepal. Everything was wonderful. Not so expensive comparing their services. Love this place. Once it was Nepal's King Palace, more than 80 years ago it was converted to Hotel.

The ambience here is too good. You feel like you went to the past time as the designs are made like it used to be in king's palace. Must visit place for vacations.

I was there to attend a Cyber security summit followed by snacks and buffet dinner. The organizer, LogPoint Nepal, uses the very first hall room for the program. The room was very ordinary, I would say. Also the buffet dinner presentation was very ordinary. Besides, there is a nice garden view with swimming pool facility in front of the hotel. There is a walk way side parking at the entry path where you can park your vehicle with your own risk.

Stayed here again this time after seven years. They did some nice renovation work. They kept the charm of the century old palace, yet, put the modern luxury and comfort. The breakfast was fabulous as well. They need to put more local options in lunch and diner menu.
