Busy little store with helpful people. Kai is terrific and very accommodating. He has a real passion for fish and is willing to help others with their fish in many ways.

I've been shopping with the purple seahorse for just over a decade now. They've always had incredibly knowledgeable staff with absolutely WONDERFUL attitudes. When they switched ownership I was a little worried about how the direction of the store would go. With that being said, I found out Kai Heinrich had taken over the shop! I was PLEASANTLY surprised to hear this, as I knew Kai outside of the pet/fish world! He was always a VERY intelligible and compassionate man, with a heart as big as the moon. He's gone above and beyond to ensure that the purple seahorse has not only kept its amazing reputation, but even went so far as to vastly improve on its reputation in town. Something I didn't think was possible, really considering how highly regarded they were in town. All this being said, Kai and his team will go absolutely above and beyond for any single human/4 legged friend that walks through his doors. He's provided me with a great back up plan for my whisper 100 air pump that failed the other day. I seriously can't stress how great of a store this place truly is. ❤️ Thanks for all you guys do for your community, Kai and associates. You guys are absolute rock stars ❤️

Kai and crew are amazing! They go above and beyond to help you. I have had them searching for obscure seals for my canister filter, bringing in special worms for a bearded dragon I looked after, and are always ready and willing to help me find the best new residents for my tanks. Truly a wonderful team. Don’t believe everything you read in reviews, but definitely believe the majority when they say the same as me.

Every time I bring my kids into this store the staff is so helpful and friendly, but today topped them all. There was a calm and gentle old shop dog there named Gummer and my kids are over the top afraid of dogs. The man working took the time to get down to my kids level and introduce his dog to them making it such a meaningful encounter. I wish we had more than just fish so we could support this business more.

This is an awesome store with a variety of cool and cute animals ranging from aquatic creatures, to birds, to reptiles, to rodents. The store parrot Deaner is adorable, the staff are friendly and helpful, as is the owner Kai who you can tell genuinely cares about people and animals very much. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and love all the live animals. Will be going back. July 11th, 2023 review: I had to get some fish water conditioner and fish food. Had an awesome chat with the owner. He is definitely a people person and loves chatting and helping his customers. Love supporting local businesses. If you go in, buy one of the homemade cat toys that his mom makes with catnip they grew. Both of my cats love it infact were fighting over it.

EDIT: Yesterday I had a wonderful experience here which obliterates my previous negative review! ❤️ Kai and his staff were so friendly and helpful, both with getting me a couple more snails for my little nano reef aquarium as well as the tiniest and cutest anemone on the planet and with talking to me about my quest to obtain a rosy boa in the future (an uncommon species in the hobby here in Canada.) I love my anemone so much and I'm so gleeful to report that she's already found a spot to hang her proverbial hat at the front of my rockwork. Thank you again Kai and staff, as well as cute canine staff as well for being so friendly and supportive. Now my little reef looks a little more like an actual reef instead of just a pile of rocks with a couple of zoanthid polyps if you know where to look and you squint. 😂 It's very possible that my past experience was strained by the fact that my beloved mother was dying at the time, so my ability to deal with others was near non-existant. I apologize for that and I hope that this new review makes up for it! I can't wait to return and hopefully adopt more invertebrate friends for my little aquarium.❤️

Always been a fantastic time whenever I've worked with them. They're always super quick to answer their phone and very knowledgeable about their store. They're the only place in town I've been able get such a big bag of rat food and I'm happy to come by and pick it up when I need to restock and am in town. Even if I do live all the way in West Kelowna.

Wonderful place to purchase animals because they are properly taken care of unlike larger pet shops. The staff members are well informed on how to take care of the animals. I would definitely recommend supporting this amazing shop!

I’ve been going to purple seahorse for about ten years since we moved to kelowna, over time I’ve met a lot of amazing people. The staff has always been amazing and I was very grateful to work along side Kai for a period of time and meet everyone. The knowledge and care that goes into the pet store is beyond amazing. If you’re looking for your beloved pets at home, aquatics you name it, you will find what you need! Even if you don’t they will order something in which is beyond amazing and almost unheard of around here!! I went in today because I am moving out of country and they were so helpful with info and encouraging about where to take my beloved little critters and aquatics, I couldn’t be more thankful to all of you over the years! They are always so helpful there. The employees seem to have a bigger interest and knowledge of their job than any of the leading big box pet store chains. They make shopping local easy.

Kelowna wouldn’t be Kelowna without the Purple Seahorse. Such a family friendly place and they are always eager to help, answer questions and have what I need for my pets. The store Boxers and Parrot are super cute and friendly too. Love this store 10/10.

Spoke with Samuel regarding my aquarium today, a new addition to my tank (from total pet) appears to have possibly introduced a harmful bacteria resulting in a fish dying, not only was he knowledgeable and friendly, he genuinely seems to be passionate about the hobby, unlike the other stores I've visited in Kelowna. I left with a comprehensive treatment plan that I have a lot of confidence will be successful. The store has a good selection of fish, tanks are in reasonably good condition and they have a 7 day guarantee on the fish, which is unheard of to me. This is the only place I will shop at in Kelowna for aquarium stuff from now on.

Kai and the gang at the purple seahorse are genuine pet lovers. They cary a wide range of pet foods even the special treats my kitty adores! I love going in every week just to see what they have have brought in this week. Keep up the great work!

This store has high quality supplies for fresh water and salt water tanks. The staff care about their customers and their pets. There is a sense of community and care carried by the staff and it can be felt in the store and by customers. As a first time tank owner, I felt super welcomed as an inexperienced owner looking to learn.

I love The Purple Seahorse. Kai and his staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. They take their time with each customer to make sure that their needs are being met and that the right product is being purchased for your critters needs. They have also been able to order me in special items all I had to do was ask. Been shopping at the PSH for years and don’t plan to stop any time soon.

Kai has done an amazing job supplying and supporting pets of all kinds and our community. From being an active part of rescuing animals to helping owners navigate interesting situations, Kai and staff are empathetic towards animals and people who are taking on a new hobby. The support of this truly small local business is so vital and valuable to Kelowna. I try very hard to support with my purchases and to make sure the sales stay with this community business. I have never felt so connected to a small business that really cares. From filtration media for my saltwater tank, dog toys, treats, bunny supplies. Prices are fair and reasonable and the advice is really great from everyone. I definitely have only one issue, I never want to leave in time as it is so intriguing to shop for what we love.

what an absolutely wonderful little store! I buy crickets here lots and personally they are better quality than other stores I’ve been too/larger than other stores! the staff are so kind, SO SO SOO friendly and just genuine on every level. they are also super knowledgable and happy to share :)))) a must go!!!!! Had an awesome chat with a guy there named Kai and he even gave me some crickets today for free so I felt the need to shout out to this super quaint pet store 🤍

This little store is one of the most amazing little pet stores you will ever find! The staff is out of this world! They are so helpful and amazing how they go above and beyond! They make life so much easier! The special order fish makes my aquarium the best on the block because of them! The animals are all well taken care of and healthy as can be! They definitely know what there doing that's for sure! :-) I will always stop in and say hi when I am in the neighborhood there's nothing like seeing a neighborhood pet store with live animals brings me back to the good old days! :-)

The staff are really nice, they are one of the few places that sell feeder mice and for a good price. My dad gets dog food there and its great, we also got a dog tag and its amazing

Ive been coming here to this store for 7 months now. At first...I had no idea what I was doing and nervous to ask questions. 7 months later my tanks thriving! This team led by the owner Kai are wonderful! They take the time to answer questions even when its busy. They are pationate pet people and the customer service is incredible especially from the store parrot who greets you with a "hello" when you enter the store. Thank you all! Its been really a great experience.

The purple sea horse is one of the last pet shops that deal with animals and can make you feel like your at an old neighborhood pet shop back in the day. No matter what your needs or wants are let the staff make you smile and feel welcomed. Come and see the beautiful animals they have to offer from fish to lizards snakes spiders frogs birds and so much more fresh water and salt water fish! I promise you won't leave disappointed at all!. The staff is very knowledgeable and professional at all times! I love going there to just look at the animals or to say hi to Deaner the best parrot ever! And if they don't have what ypur looking for they can either bring it in or find it for you! The staff always goes out of there way just to make you and your pets feel loved!!

Love this place 🥰. Even though it was busy, the owners had lots of time for each customer. And while we waited, we got to snuggle and pet their adorable boxers (including the puppy). Thank you for always making it a great place.

Got floating plants from purple sea horse and my beta starting making a bubble nest right away!! They are friendly and super helpful you can’t go wrong going there :) I highly recommend
