The Kobe herb gardens were surprisingly a very enjoyable and interesting experience. Be sure to be early as the queue can get incredibly long around lunch time. There is lots to see, smell and taste, making it a must see for any trip to Kobe. We were there at Christmas time when they had a German inspired Christmas market with lots of traditional German food and trinkets. It is reachable by a lift, which is a great attraction itself. I would recommend taking the lift all the way up, then walk to the middle station and go back to the city. The hammocks and the variety of things to smell were my personal highlights.

This is a fantastic place! Start by taking a cable car up to the top (2nd stop) where they have: a shop, indoor & outdoor restaurants, rose garden, etc. From the top it is a nice walk down to an intermittent cable stop (for a ride down to the base). Besides a large selection of flowers and trees there are: a herb section, vegetable section, green house, a place to soak you feet, to small (snack style) restaurants, toilets along the way, places to rest, another rose garden, etc.! A lot of flowers and plants are seasonal and replaced regularly. For example, tulips in spring & lavender is summer, etc. There are also places (benches) to rest, hammocks, picnic tables, etc. It is very easy to spend 1-2 hours walking about. On weekends (specially during the summer) the upper are is open very late for night views of Kobe.

One of the best place to spend your day trip to Kobe. Requires an entrance fee if you're using the ropeway and it's the recommended way to go up as you can see the seaview and city view from above. Hiking takes more than one and a half hour from floor. There are two stops , one in the middle the other one from top. Both are walkable and within walking distances. Umbrellas are free to use when you had reached the mid of top platform. Plenty of gardens to look around as you expose yourself to the nature. Glass room available too which houses the flora from the tropical forest in the south eastern china seas countries. Recommended place for couples and families with child.

Very wheelchair accessible, fun for kids, there’s a park with toys the kids could play with, there’s also a hammock for folks to rest. Great place to view flowers & autumn leaves. Can bring your own snacks or drinks if you don’t plan on spending too much on food sold there. Wonderful place to hike & plenty of areas for rest. Try the lavender ice cream, the kids loved it. Will definitely visit with older family & younger kids again. Suggest going there after lunch in the weekend so not too crowded, by 4pm, the queue for the railway tickets was already quite long

A very aesthetic and relaxing place to visit especially on a date. I recommend going at night to see the illuminated city at top of the garden. The food was great but expect long waiting times because of how crowded it always is. Most of the food stalls also only accept cash so keep that in mind before going here. Also prepare to walk quite a bit if you go to this place.

Such an amazing place! You know what I love about google? It’s that how I can share about my experiences anywhere and with anyone! This place is awesome! So many things to see and do, but so little time. There’s the herb gardens, the small cafes at the top, the cafes at the bottom, and a gorgeous garden to boot. I would strongly suggest taking the rope way cars up in the evening to get best shots/views of the Kobe sunsets, and then slowly make your down via the short hiking route. You’ll not only get to experience the serenity of the gardens but also the great cafes and sights along the way. Best way to end the day trip to Kobe definitely! (PS my pictures don’t do justice, go and check it out on your own!)

This is the place everyone should go if you are in Kobe. What a great experience! I bought a round trip from bottom-top station but I would buy bottom to top and middle station for the return ticket.

Good experience overall. Taking the gondola lift gave us some of the best views of Kobe. Make sure you travel here during the Fall or Spring time for the best overall experience.

Great gardens with amazing views over Kobe. This is one of the largest gardens - Nunobiki gardens in Japan. All around Japan, I've been to gardens, but none have ever left me feeling as inspired as Nunobiki. In addition to its 12 expansive gardens, visitors may tour the scent and spice museums, take in the creative displays in the herbal home, unwind in the herbal foot bath, make a pilgrimage to the lover's bell, and chow down on a lunch in a plaza that is modelled after a German castle. A romantic day in Kobe has never been more idyllic. The gardens are in full bloom all year round, which is even better. The season's features are listed on their website.

It is a very peaceful place with good views and nice flower gardens. I went there on Sunday morning and it was very busy at the ticket gate. Inside the garden, it was not so crowded, maybe because the size of the garden is quite big. There is lighting at night so maybe it looks more beautiful in the afternoon (I had other plans so didn't stay there all day)...

This is a fantastic day trip from Osaka. Allow the full day to ride the cable up to a magical garden paradise lovingly cared for by expert gardeners. Food options are varied and will cater for many tastes. Be sure to have coffee and sweets in the giant greenhouse restaurant. We visited in Summer and saw plenty of flowers in full bloom. This really is a great day out and should be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

One of the highlights of our trip to Kobe was this Garden! Follow the signs in the Shin Kobe station. Up some stairs to the elevator queue and then inside is another queue for the ticketing office. The line moved fast and we bought the round trip option. The view up and down the cable cars had breathtaking views of the Kobe city skylines! At the top, lovely views as well. There's some cafes and resting spots to enjoy lunch or snacks. There's plenty of restrooms on the way down. Signs posted (some English as well) to describe the exhibits. The flowers were gorgeous! I enjoyed the selfie stands provided for photo ops. The snacks and coffee at the greenhouse are cheaper outside than the fancy inside cafes! I saw that other patrons were enjoying their packed lunches and snacks inside the park. it was a beautiful way to spend the day!

We went on a busy weekend late afternoon, so the queuing was a bit of a nightmare. However, the overall experience is still good and worth the wait, but if we were to do it again, we would choose a weekday since there were a lot of local. Good things of going in the afternoon was that you will get to see sunset view from the garden which was beautiful. But morning might be better for exploring the garden. There are 2 stations of the ropeway mid-way and top. If you don't mind walking up and have time, then i would recommend you to get off at mid-way and walk up while exploring the garden (should take around 1.30 hour to go up and explore along the way). Once you are at the top, you can have a full view of kobe. If your timing is right, then you can see the sunset at the top along with a night view, then take the ropeway down. There is a cafe at both the top and glass house (halfway between mid way and top) selling drink and snacks. We did not have much time, but we wish we spare half a day to fully enjoy this place. This place is on a hill, it can be much colder than the city. So do prepare warm clothes. Please also note that the garden closed earlier than the ropeway and depedning on the season you visited, so do check with the website for more accurate info.

Absolutely one of the best spots to visit in Kobe. Beautiful views, flowers and plants. The cable car ride is great too. We were there for a few hours and had lunch at the restaurant located inside of a greenhouse where we had Kobe beef and delicious herb tea. There’s also a spot with lavender ice cream that was excellent.

We ended up having a thoroughly good time. Tickets are a little expensive but include the rope way and then stuff to do at the top. At the top there are some gift shops and a cafe inside a German theme building. Then you can walk down through some gardens to green houses which were really nice. Then walk down some more through the gardens to the midway point to get the ropeway back down again. Obviously during winter there's not much alive but I would say it's still worth it.

It was nice to get away from the massive crowds in Osaka. Very quaint garden with great views of the city from the cable car rides. There is a cute little gift shop at the top and some food and beverage offerings. Recommend to go early in the morning right when they open to avoid the lines both at the ticket counter and the cable cars.

Lovely garden to explore. The cable car was very efficient and fun to ride! Hardly any queues too. It’s great to take it all the way up to the top then walk down to explore the garden! There’s also a veranda cafe where we enjoyed some lovely drinks. Great experience and beautiful flowers!

The herb garden is very beautiful and the restaurant's cake is delicious. The Ropeway is long and not nice if you are afraid of heights. I think it's possible to walk up.

Awesome public garden. Definitely if I return in the fall/winter I would come back. Agree with others, buy the return ticket. Take it to the top. Walk down to middle, and take it back down from middle (gardens is between top and mid stations)

Excellent value. ¥1800 at the time of this posting grants you a round-trip cable car ride and admission. It's a little hard to find it on Google maps, but it's right next to the JR rail station, no need to do any hiking. Cable car gives you amazing views of Kobe and the ocean. How you aren't afraid is heights! The gift shop here smells AMAZING. The lavender soft serve smelled very floral, but otherwise tasted standard. There's an essential oil room that has dozens of scents jars you can smell to discover something you like. The botanical garden is nice, I've seen better. In this place's defense it was winter when I went. I'm sure it looks spectacular in the spring. There's a "free" herbal foot bath that you can buy a towel for ¥100. Great after a long walk. There's a nice place to chill with hammocks near the bottom, would be a nice place to have a picnic when the weather is warmer.

Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens in Kobe is very good for one day trip. If you are in Kobe you must must visit this place for sure. You should not miss it. You can come here with your family, or with your date. Take rope way to reach the top point, relax there enjoy indoor activities, shop some herbal products, relax, and chitchat, enjoy foot onsen, and then come down walking. Walking all the way down is the best experience. You have variety of flowers and gardens on your pathway, and some places to sit and enjoy the beauty. Drink Lavender soda while watching the sea seen deep down the way. If you really want to enjoy this place, you should have 1 day in hand. It is a relaxing place that will make your vacation more interesting and memorable.

The herb garden is a nice place to see the sunset, although it closes early (when I visited the garden it closed at 5 pm) it was a very nice afternoon. There is a cable car to reach the top and a restaurant and you can buy many products from japanese herbs.

Garden in the european style. It was a nice walk with a lot of opportunities to sit and relax. Beautiful cherry blossom and flowers. I liked the greenhouse where one can see a lot of famous plants thrive. My personal highlight was the fragrance museum. Here I was able to smell and discover so many different things. The price for the ropeway is quite high (1800 yen for a round ticket), so i only gave 4 stars. We arrived early in the morning so it was not crowded.

The gardens were closed. It was a bit difficult to find. Upon exiting the train station, I went to the "Koto no Hako Kobe" building and went down to the first floor, where I then followed the Ropeway and Herb Garden sign. The sunset view was barely seen. Sunset is facing the other side. Nice view of the city otherwise.

I visited in early march, I feel like if I'd timed it maybe one or two weeks later, the grounds would have been so much more impressive. Either way, I really enjoyed my visit. There are many places to sit and rest along the way down, as well as an ice cream shop halfway. The cable car was fun, and overall, the experience was just peaceful. It's definitely worth a couple of hours or more on a sunny day.

This is a pretty place to hike around and enjoy the fall foliage. They even have a booth on top with German Christmas ornaments and gluhwein, as well as an herbal foot bath. Laying on the hammocks and enjoy the view was also relaxing. It was nice to be outside of the hustle and bustle of the city.

Maybe this is an old photo, but I'm impressed with this place. A very beautiful place in autumn, we can see the beautiful view of Kobe city from the ropeway. When we get to the top we can see beautiful views of the sea and urban areas while enjoying the food sold there. If you like hiking, you can also buy a one-way ticket and go down the hill on foot, it's quite far but you can find a waterfall there. very gorgeous. And I like the lavender ice cream.

-Visited on a Sunday and it was not that crowded -Purchased tickets in advance via the KKday app and collection of tickets are still required at the ticket counter -Very large garden. -Great place to relax. -Access was quite easy, after alighting at Shin Kobe station, a short walk through the mall next to ANA Crowne Plaza Kobe, we will get to the entrance. From the entrance a short walk uphill/by lift, we’ll get to the entrance of the ropeway. From there we’ll have to take another lift to the level that sells tickets and where you’ll board the ropeway. -There was a nice autumn scenery with a lot of flowers, plants, fruits… -There was also a small Christmas market and it’ll be beautiful with illuminations at night.

Bought tickets from Klook. Nearest JR station is Sannomiya, and we decided to take public bus up to the base of the ropeway. We went up at 1100 and came down around 1600. The ropeway carries you to the middle and the top of the herb garden. I recommend taking the ropeway to the top to get a nice view of Kobe, then leisurely make your way down to the mid station and then rope way down. December is Maple leaf season so plants were not in bloom. But you get treated to multicoloured foliage. If you want to see blooms, go in Spring (Feb)

Awesome venue. Pkan to soend 3 hoyrs taking the path from the top gondola all the way to midway then back up for wine and snacks and then sunset into evening when lights are in the and in the city. It cost 2100 yen each so make it count.

This place is beautiful. The atomsphere is very relaxing with lots of floral spots to take nice photos. Also, you get a fantastic view of Kobe the whole way down. The admission price includes the cable car which is quite long with breathtaking views. Definitely a highlight in Kobe. Highly highly recommend!

Definitely a highlight of the trip to Japan. Super relaxing and pleasing to spend time amongst the aromas of herbs and flowers and learn the history of scent cultivation in this place. Aesthetically appealing exhibits and exquisite gardens with a lengthy ride on a chair lift for excellent views onto the city of Kobe...highly recommend this place.

I had a wonderful experience visiting Kobe Nunobiki Herb Garden, located in Kobe. Taking the cable car to reach the garden added to the adventure. The garden is a refreshing oasis, and the panoramic view of Kobe city from here is truly breathtaking. It's a must-visit destination for families looking to unwind and relax.

A lovely botanical garden nestled in the mountains of Kobe. We came in late October, the weather was perfect and the gardens were still in bloom. There are many ways to access it, via the Kobe Nunobiki Ropeway or through the hiking trail behind Shin-Kobe station. We took the latter and adventured our way up through Nunobiki falls to reach the gardens for lunch, which made for a more satisfying experience. The honeycomb ice cream was delicious and the curry on site filling and well spiced. Must recommend for anyone traveling through the area, if you want to exist in a Ghibli film for a few hours!

  • 5/5 Stanfc S. 10 months ago on Google
Wow this place was fantastic. One of my favorites in Japan so far. Such good food at the top. A welcomed reward after climbing the mountain. I opted for the honeycomb ice cream and steak and potatoes You can take the skyline (1000 yen each way) or climb for free. The hike is really pretty as you pass some small waterfalls and a reservoir.

I love this place, unfortunately I don't come here in spring, summer or fall. I think it would be very nice if you guys can come in this season other than Winter. But I can see the veggies there. OMG so big, and make me wants to eat it 😂 And we dont want to hike to go up there, so we go by the cable car, but we choose one way. By the time we finish sightseeing we go back down and see many things. It is very enjoyable

I personally had an amazing experience. I opted in for the ropeway round trip. Walking around was quite beautiful and there were so many different flowers and nice views. There is also a cafe and a place to get icecream. I just got the seasonal one, and it was quite good for a hot afternoon. There is not anything specific I would recommend, though it would be good if you had at least three hours to walk around. There are different locations that have different flowers, and you will be walking a lot. On a hot day, I would advise to wear lots of sunscreen and stay hydrated. There are a couple of vending machines throughout the garden. If you are looking for cool gifts, by the ropeway is a little shop with floral inspired products. You can also purchase unique perfumes with whatever seasonal flowers.

It is winter during my visit to the herb garden. I wish I could come in summer as I believe the garden would be more beautiful. During the winter not much is growing but a few herbs and a couple of flowers. Went here mainly to ride the ropeway which was fun. I would recommend to come in summer if you can.

This was the beautiful surprise in Kobe. Didn’t expect it to be so beautiful. The ropeway ride is great and the walk into the gardens is amazing. Beautifully kept and colors are awesome in autumn. Very nice cafe on top and at mid level in the garden

One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! The garden is conveniently located by Shin-Kobe station and the ropeway to the top of the herb garden is fun and incredibly beautiful. Autumn is a great time to go. I loved all the terraced gardens and areas to rest with hammocks. One of my favorite places in Japan.

  • 4/5 Tanuki 1 year ago on Google
Went in winter but so thankful the autumn colours were still around. Had a good stroll and saw a bunch of herbs. It was also interesting to smell different essential oils although too much sniffing can leave one feeling a little nauseated. There’s an interactive workshop that’s chargeable. The FREE herbal footbath with an amazing view was the highlight of our visit. The cable car ride was also enjoyable. And taking a short nap on one of the hammocks was so healing. Overall, one of the better things to do in Kobe. Sadly, none of the flowers were in season so it was a lot of dried leaves and semi-dead looking plants.

This is an unexpected dose of tranquility hidden away one the hillside of Kobe. Well worth the time to take your time and walk it slowly or take the cable car up and walk back down. Really delightful.

Not only this place itself but the location here commands a finest view of the whole Kobe bay area including Awaji-Island, Kobe Airport and another port facilities. Magnified device reveals that Japan Coast Guard Authority ship is anchored with dignity for the emergency. Twilight night timing is so dreamy as to make all the couples fall in the deepest love. No reason to hesitate here!
