Kyoto Tower (京都タワー, Kyōto-tawā) is an observation tower located in Kyoto, Japan. The steel tower is the tallest structure in Kyoto with its observation deck at 100 metres (328 ft) and its spire at 131 metres (430 ft). The 800-ton tower stands atop a 9-story building, which houses a 3-star hotel and several stores. The entire complex stands opposite Kyōto Station.Kyoto is Japan’s most elegant city, where its cultural traditions are best preserved. Here we expect to find wooden townhouses on lantern lit lanes, ancient shrines and temples, stately palaces and meditative gardens. So a first time visitor to Kyoto might well be surprised by the sight of the brightly painted red and white tower that stands directly across from Kyoto Station’s north central exit.A cheerful beacon of 1960’s optimism, Kyoto Tower stands at 131 meters high from its base to the tip of its spire, and it is the tallest structure in Kyoto. As such it dominates the skyline and can be spotted from many of the sightseeing locations around the city. For a little over 50 years this curious structure has split opinion between those who see it as a symbol of modern Kyoto, and others who see it as a tacky and inappropriate folly.

The Kyoto Tower is definitely a must-see! Located in the heart of the city, the tower offers panoramic views of Kyoto's famous temples and shrines, as well as the surrounding mountains and valleys. The tower is about 100 meters high, and on the top floor there is an observation deck from which you can enjoy a 360-degree view of Kyoto. The tower has many other attractions including a cafe and a gift shop. The Tower is easily accessible by public transport as it is close to several metro and bus stops. Parking is also available for guests arriving by car. One of the best things about the Kyoto Tower is the observation deck, which offers amazing views of the city. The deck is ideal for taking photos of the city and a great place to watch the sunset. All in all, the Kyoto Tower is a must-see for anyone visiting Kyoto. The combination of views, attractions and accessibility make it a great addition to any itinerary. I recommend visiting the Kyoto tower in the morning or evening to take advantage of the best lighting and avoid the crowds. 📷 🌅 ☀️ ❄️

The experience at the most iconic tower of Kyoto was nothing short of a thrill. The ambiance in the base tower was super perfect and it was very less crowded during the last week of October when I visited. The queue for the entrance ticket was barely 4-5 people long and the price is a bit on the higher side. Also, they closed much before the official time. But I luckily got an entry.

You can enjoy night view day view and morning view. There are binoculars to magnify objects but since there are locals living nearby. I don't recommend to use it. For others privacy. During night you can see any thing at all. Expect some people homes and they doing their stuff. For locals privacy binoculars should be removed. I used if myself and saw man changing dress😅 They charge 900 yen. But it doesn't worth the money. Maybe 500 yen would have been better.

This was one of our last stops in Kyoto while we visited. It's an iconic location for sure and super easy to get to (just walk out of Kyoto Station and it's right there towering over you!). Tickets were quick to purchase and the initial elevator up was quite quick. We went in the afternoon on a Saturday and, after a short queue for yet another elevator, we made it to the observation deck. This deck is small and crowded, so it makes it hard to get a good view out the windows. However, the view was wonderful and it was a beautiful clear arvo. The binoculars that are stationed around the circular deck are well positioned and are free to use. These were a standout, it was quite fun watching people eat their dinner from afar 😂 there are also interactive touch screens around the deck also that you can use.

Able to purchase tickets quickly. I think it was 800 yen per person. Short Q for the elevator. Small space at the top but everyone is respectful of their surroundings and take turns using telescopes. I recommend going around 4:30pm to enjoy sunset. Once it’s nighttime there is a glare on windows so it is a little more difficult for photos and videos but the view is still beautiful with your own eyes. I enjoyed being able to watch the bullet trains coming in and out of the station. We spent about 60-90 minutes up at the top. You get a free palm size calendar with your photo on it on the way back down from the top. You may purchase larger photos if you want. Enjoy the food court at the bottom of the tower. Lots of options.

Probably one of the highlights of our visit in Kyoto. One should never miss out the Kyoto Tower. It presents visitors with a 360 degree view of the city and beyond. You can use the installed telescope for maximum enjoyment. I highly suggest one to visit Kyoto Tower during sunset for that more dramatic view of Kyoto. Then stay until dark to see the amazing night view of the city. For Filipinos, you can purchase the entrance ticket via Klook for that hassle free visit.

This is an excellent activity for the end of your day. We went to the Kyoto Tower after a day at the Nishiki Market. We wanted something fun and easy before dinner, and this did not disappoint. It took us less than an hour to get tickets to see the tower and return. It's great for little ones too. They had interactive screens that highlighted different Kyoto areas and gave information on each. The screen also provided a QR Code which brought you more information. They have several languages available, which makes navigating easy. My one critique is the glass in the stair portion is a little worn and can be hard to see out of. That is not from lack of cleanliness. It is just older. This does not take much away from experience, but it does lower my score,

Kyoto Tower offers an incredible view of Kyoto. There are two floors to explore which displays the magnitude of the city and free binoculars of all sizes to use. The binoculars enable you to see all the little nooks and crannies of Kyoto and it's worth spending time marvelling at the sites from afar. Highly recommend visiting Kyoto Tower. It is right next to the main station so it is extremely easy to get to

Magic Kyoto! My February visit to Kyoto Tower was a mesmerizing experience, especially in the night. The tower, adorned with brilliant lights, stood as a shining beacon against the Kyoto skyline. The panoramic views from the observation deck were breathtaking, offering a captivating panorama of the city's illuminated landmarks. The ambiance was serene, and the surrounding city lights created a magical atmosphere. Kyoto Tower in February is not only a testament to modern architecture but also a must-visit for those seeking a dazzling and enchanting perspective of Kyoto after dark.

Kyoto Tower is a famous symbol of this historic city and old capital of Japan! 🇯🇵 The 360 view is beautiful, with maps and binoculars to locate specific attractions in Kyoto. (Maybe not for people who are spacially sensitive or afraid of heights.) It is also conveniently located directly across the front of Kyoto Station.

If you’re in Kyoto, you should see the Kyoto tower. If you go up the observatory, you will be able to see the whole city (360 degrees) from above. Night time is especially beautiful.

One of the many iconic towers. I love towers. But unfortunately this is one i didnt go up due to short of time. I can only imagine the amazing view of Kyoto from the top. One day probably……. Its just opposite the main station so very accessible.

The views from the top were incredible, and we even spotted some temples in the distance, adding to the charm of the cityscape. The best part? It was affordable, and we got a free calendar for our photos! The only downside was that the tower felt a bit small. But overall, it was a fantastic experience we’ll always remember.

Wasn't too expensive, and the views were nice. It was a bit hot up there but there were fans running throughout it. We went during a collab with an anime and they had cute purchasable items in the gift shop too. There's an toilet available in the main deck as well.

I was pleasantly surprised by this tower. I’ve lived in Kyoto for over a year now and I’d been wanting to go for months. I’ve been to the Umeda Skybuilding and Tokyo Skytree so I’ve seen some iconic sights from observation towers. Kyoto Tower is definitely smaller, but the view of sunset Kyoto is fantastic. It’s not a concrete jungle like Osaka and Tokyo, so you can really take in the buildings and surrounding mountains. Definitely go at dusk. They have many interesting souvenirs you can buy. The price needs to be updated too. As of July 28, 2023 entry tickets are 900 yen.

My 8 year old and I went here just after sunset and it wasn’t crazy crowded and the view of Kyoto was magnificent ! Seeing everything lit up at night was a different view and so cool. I’d love to come back and see it during the day too ! Buying tickets is easy as you can do it there in the tower or you can buy it from a third party such as Klook. We bought our tickets through Klook and once you get tickets, you can head onto the elevators and up to the 11th floor where they’ll check and scan your tickets and take you up to the actual tower. Sometimes there is a line or a wait, but we didn’t wait long. There is an adorable mascot (Towawa) and a small shrine up within a the top of the tower at the observation deck. You can also get pamphlets in different languages and find a cute stamping station to stamp your pamphlet on the back. My son loved trying to find the stamp station to get the stamp and it’s adorable and a great keepsake !

I was really hesitant to give it 4☆ because it is a very crummy 60's build. But let's be real, you're already in Kyoto, it's right next to the station, it's very affordable (unlike Skytree), and it won't take all that much time away of your day (unless you're going to explore the food offerings). There's free telescopes! You can see temples, shrines, and castles way up close, which is fun.

Visited Kyoto Tower and had a genuinely positive experience! The tower offers a unique vantage point over Kyoto, providing panoramic views that are hard to beat elsewhere in the city. While the observation deck is on the smaller side, it didn't take away from the enjoyment of taking in the breathtaking sights of Kyoto's historic landscape. An unexpected delight was receiving a free small photograph as a souvenir, a nice touch that added value to the visit. For those wanting a larger memento, there's an option to purchase a full-size photo for 1500 yen, which seems reasonable for a keepsake of this special experience. Despite the compact space of the observation deck, the overall visit was memorable. The tower's central location makes it an easy addition to any Kyoto itinerary, and the views alone are worth the trip. Would recommend to anyone looking to get a bird's-eye view of the city!

Great view to see Kyoto from the top. Even when you are far away at Gion or Arashiyama Monkey Park, you are able to see this iconic tower. Recommend to go up here for just ¥900. Can complete within 45 minutes with plenty of time for photos. Check out the places you are going to visit or have visited from there. This will complete part of your Kyoto trip. Fully Recommended.

From the moment one steps up to gaze from Kyoto Tower at night, the city unfolds in a spectacle of serene beauty that is unmatched. The view from above transitions from the daytime bustle to a charm that becomes even more pronounced at night, offering a quiet moment where the historical and modern essence of this city can be fully appreciated. The panoramic scene from the tower is not just another viewpoint; it is an immersive experience that allows one to feel the soul of the city through its remarkably compelling nighttime landscape. The joy of identifying and observing Kyoto's landmarks from this elevated perspective offers a unique experience. The traditional streets and historical temples rise gently against the night sky, each telling their silent tales, allowing for a contemplation that transcends mere sightseeing. This act of viewing Kyoto’s night scene from the tower provides more than just aesthetic pleasure; it offers a rare opportunity to discover and connect with the deep history and culture of Kyoto from a fresh vantage point. Especially at night, when the city lights come alive, Kyoto shows a different face. As dusk falls and the city lights illuminate, the ancient charm takes on a more mystical air, leaving an indelible memory for those who witness it. The night view from Kyoto Tower is not merely about observing beauty; it's about exploring each tourist spot from above, pondering over their histories and narratives, making it a profoundly meaningful experience. Thus, the nighttime panorama from Kyoto Tower serves as an opportunity for all visitors to uncover the multifaceted allure of Kyoto. Being able to survey the city after dark from such a height is a special gift, offering moments that will linger in memory. Admiring Kyoto's night view is a splendid experience that reacquaints one with the endless beauty of this ancient city, allowing its depths to be appreciated from a new angle.

Poor choice in lightning makes pictures, particularly at night, very difficult to take. There are no reservations so it can be incredibly crowded. You are blasted with bright advertising that destroys any atmosphere. It is an excellent way to view Kyoto from above but could be so much better.

Going to the top of Kyoto Tower is something you can do very quickly. If you have an hour before a train, Kyoto Tower can be visited with time to spare. When we went, there was very little waiting, and we managed to see everything we wanted to in 30 minutes. The binoculars do not cost extra to use. Two of the three photos I attached were taken through them. As you can see, many famous sights are visible from Kyoto Tower.

There is currently a campaign for kansai residents. The discount was very much appreciated. The staff were very helpful and cheerful. My family went to the observation deck one hour before closing. The deck clearly looked dated, but the vibrancy of the city lights made up for it. Kyoto Tower is a very romantic spot.

Kyoto tower is so beautiful at night. You can easily see this right in front of Kyoto Station. You can climb it using the elevator inside. I don’t remember how much I paid since I went there 3 or 4 years ago but it’s worth it.

Beautiful view from the top, a little too heated especially if there are more than a few people so just take note so you don’t get overheated. But definitely worth it!

Very nice view, but the place is narrow, crowded, too hot. A single (!) bench for the whole floor, a single toilet booth. No drinks, no seats. You are supposed to come, pay your money, go around once and leave.

The line was too long and we had to wait for over 40mins to get inside. Then we spent more or less 15mins roaming inside as there was really not much to see and the place was very crowded so we couldn’t really take a good look at the view outside. Kyoto Tower is more like a side trip when visiting. It gives you a 360-degree view of Kyoto but you can also have a great view from above Kyoto Station for free.

A bit expensive for a short tour inside the Kyoto tower, the view and experience is great however there's not much to do and you can enjoy inside the tower in less than an hour. It can also get crowded at times.

  • 5/5 Beth L. 1 year ago on Google
Love this place. Great for a quick bite or eat, or a great tourist place to visit. The main floor has a lot of tourist shops including some traditional Kyoto treats. Basement has a good food court with tons of good food and a steady stream of 80s hits, but can sometimes be hard to find a seat. The tower view at the top is very nice, and the Tawawa mascot is adorably ugly-cute. Definitely a great place to spend a free evening in Kyoto.

Amazing view of Kyoto and parts of Osaka! It was a little small and we really didn't see a gift store. The 1st floor had a lot of sweets and of course a Starbucks which is a plus. We love doing towers in the big cities we go to and this one did not disapppoint. Recommend.

  • 4/5 Elizabeth B. 1 year ago on Google
Pretty good experience to go on if you have a free evening (I recommend going at night to see the skyline). It was a fun thing to do to kill half an hour but I think you could maybe find more fun things to do while in Kyoto? Because it is good but not "wow drop everything and come here" good. Access to free binoculars which is a nice addition

  • 5/5 Mike H. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful view of the city at night, easy to navigate as a westerner. Ticket machines all with English language and busy area with bars and restaurants. Took a lot of photos and made a few new friends along the way 😅

  • 3/5 Mariee M. 11 months ago on Google
Kyoto is a flat city(geographically I mean), so I don't recommend enjoying the night view of this tower. If you want to enjoy the spectacular night view of the city, I recommend Harukas 300 or Umeda Air Garden in Osaka instead. The admission fee is 900 yen, and you can pay by credit card.

  • 5/5 Kathy K. 9 months ago on Google

Good. Not the longest attraction and not the tallest, but a short and sweet destination. There was no line to buy tickets and there was a very short wait for the elevator, unlike Tokyo Skytree. The ticket was cheap and worth it for what it was. The photoshoot opportunity was more than the full-priced adult ticket, though.

Quick, awesome and affordable must-see spot once you arrive in Kyoto! Shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes for a good look of the city. And it looks great at night!

It was a fun experience to see Kyoto at night. You will pay 900¥ per adult to get a great view of Kyoto from above. There are many screens that will show you the different landmarks, and you can try and spot them in the distance. I could see the bullet train pulling into the station, which was cool. It's not so easy to take pictures due to the glare at night, so keep that in mind if you want selfies. Overall, it's a pretty cool experience.

  • 5/5 Stefan B. 9 months ago on Google
I visited it during night/sunaet and it offered unique pictures and view on Kyoto. One of the things that are much see if in Kyoto for more then 1 day. It is waling distance of Kyoto train station so where ever you go, you most defenetly will see it from some point in Town and you will get close to it. So I suggest you dedicate some time and go check the Kyoto Tower.
