Beautiful views of the pagoda from this street angle. Make sure to stop in Starbucks and enjoy a coffee in the traditional architecture. Also enjoy some the snack food options available.

One of the most renowned views in Kyoto, for sure! I highly recommend visiting either late in the evening, around 7 PM or later, for a serene experience, or if you're feeling adventurous, come at 5 AM to enjoy the tranquility of the early morning. During the day, it tends to get crowded with tourists and crowds.

A fantastic spot to take a stroll down traditional Japanese location in kyoto! Yes, it can get a bit busy, but the charm is absolutely worth it. Brace yourself for a treasure trove of souvenir and snack shops that add to the delightful historic vibe. Sannenzaka, a charming narrow slope, boasts around 60 shops and restaurants showcasing traditional Kyoto goodies. Don't miss the chance to dive into Japanese culture through hands-on experiences like tea ceremonies or the enchantment of Maiko and Geisha makeovers. It's not just a walk; it's a journey through time! 🍡❤️

Its one of the iconic streets of Kyoto City, that represents Japan’s good old days.Picture perfect ,nostalgic and a historical street. This street leads to the famous Kiyomizudera Temple and also one of the main attraction of the city for its beautiful scenery. The historical stone paved streets are lined with traditional Japanese buildings, shops, cafes and inns, and are also surrounded by several famous landmarks.A street worth visiting to have a Japanese cultural experience.Best time is late evening. There are few to almost no one around.

Love this area of Geon as the streets are lines up with the old narrow wooden homes from long time ago. Unless you come early (around sunrise) or in the evening hours long after the stores are closed, the streets are so packed with visitors, you can’t even walk without bumping into other people. I would give this area 10 stars ⭐️ if it wasn’t so crowded. I am giving it a 4 just because of how busy it is. Not pleasant IMHO

If you're planning a trip to Kyoto, then make sure to add Sanneizaka to your must-visit list! This charming street is a gem of traditional Japanese architecture, complete with beautiful wooden buildings and narrow lanes that offer a glimpse into Kyoto's rich history. As you stroll down the steep incline of Sanneizaka, you'll feel transported to another time and place. The street is filled with quaint souvenir shops, and you can sample delicious traditional Japanese sweets while enjoying the beautiful views of the city.

Totally touristy, totally crowded, but totally kawaii! So many interesting corners , shops and restaurants to explore before you get to the highlight, the temple on the mountain top. There is a kimono rental along the path in case you feel like dressing up for a traditional Japanese shot! Come here first before heading out to Kinkaku-ji. Unfortunately the day I came was pouring rain. I hope you get the beautiful iconic shots. Plan 2-3 hrs.

A super popular pedestrian street on a hill with shops on both sides of the street selling traditional Japanese food, beverage and touristsy goods. On the top of the hill is the main temple attraction.

Really crowded with people all the times, maybe up until 7pm. But the scenery and atmosphere is unmatched.

Best place to walk. Arrive early (6 am) to have the best pictures with no people. At that time, everything is closed, but you can walk up to the kiyomizu dera and pay the entrance with cash. At the time you walk down, you might see some stores open around 8 am.

Nice street with many shops from drinks, snack, souvenirs. Very touristy and crowded, but is a very good experience walking, sightseeing and window shopping. Some souvenirs shop even offer sample, so you will know what are they selling. There is also the famous traditional starbucks shop here and the ghibli merchandise shop.

On the way to Kiyomizu-dera, you’ll traverse a traditional Kyoto street. The views here are enchanting, though the area can get quite crowded. It’s a great spot for photography and offers a chance to sample traditional Japanese sweets. Ideally, a leisurely stroll without the crowds would be perfect, but finding such a quiet moment might be a challenge.

Nice street that got crowded towards noon. Some people wearing kimonos walking around taking photos. Lots of tourist shops selling snacks and souvenirs. You can see pretty much the same items in various stores but prices vary. For some reason the closest store to the temple was the most expensive. If you take your time browsing most of the stores it takes about an hour. There’s a small shrine place in the middle where you can make a wish.

Pretty traditional shopping street in Kyoto. Went on a Monday and it was packed. Imagine what it's like on a weekend. Just so many things to see. Touristy prices but we're that's why us tourists go there for the experience. 😉

If you love being around crowds, then this is the place to be. As you stroll along this path, you will notice more and more people spilling in, slowly forming into ant-like lines steadily moving forward towards Kiyomizu-dera Temple. As you inch forward amongst the photo-hungry tourists posing for their own photo moments, navigating these steps upwards will start to be more challenging.

Streets packed with crowds at all time due to the access to Kiyomizu shrine. Both sides houses a lot of food stall and souvenir shop. Interesting place to look around. There's a pagoda tower in between that is iconic and a good photo shooting spot. Good place to spend a walk with your loved one and family and then proceed to ninenzaka

It’s a wonderful neighborhood with lots of cute shops and cafes. I went a few days ago in the morning on a weekday and it was quiet and relaxing. I think you can find stunning presents for your family and friends here! Here some pictures! It was a bit cloudy but still splendid. It was really hot.

There are many different types of souvenir stores. It is good to see, however, it is not good to buy some because the price level is too high. You can buy the same thing in the city with very reasonable prices.

Gets super packed. Lots of stores to grab snacks, merchandise, food, etc. from along the way to the temple. Take it slow and try not to trip over others!

Sannenzaka is an absolutely beautiful street in Kyoto that leads to the iconic Kiyomizu-dera temple. While we were disappointed to find the shops closed and rain pouring down during our visit, the walk itself was still a delightful experience. Strolling along Sannenzaka is like stepping back in time, as the street is lined with traditional wooden buildings and cobblestone paths. The old-world charm and picturesque scenery make it a must-visit location in Kyoto. Although we missed out on exploring the shops due to their closure, we couldn't help but appreciate the architectural beauty and cultural ambiance of the street. The traditional atmosphere is truly enchanting, transporting you to a different era. If you plan to visit Sannenzaka, I would recommend checking the store timings in advance to avoid disappointment. Knowing the opening hours will allow you to make the most of your visit and experience the vibrant energy of the street. Regardless of the shop closures, the walk through Sannenzaka is still worthwhile. The historical charm, stunning surroundings, and the anticipation of reaching Kiyomizu-dera create an atmosphere of intrigue and anticipation. Sannenzaka is a beautiful street that shouldn't be missed when exploring Kyoto. While it's advisable to check the store timings in advance, the walk itself offers a glimpse into the city's rich history and architectural beauty. Embrace the allure of this enchanting street as you make your way to the iconic Kiyomizu-dera temple.

This is beautiful spot but typically quite crowded. We went on a Sunday and there were a lot of tourists. Then we went back on a Tuesday and it was packed with schools walking up the hill to the temples for a day trip. It is a nice walk around the shops anyway but be prepared for crowds. You’ll find it easier to take photos during the night if you’re into that.

This is why Kyoto is called the prettiest part of Japan. Following the recent snowfall this street and accompanying streets became even prettier. Magical even! Note very busy area and lots of people around with their cameras.

Cute streets with a ton of different food and souvenir shops. There are a decent amount of stairs to climb, and can get very crowded during mid day.

It was hot and incredibly busy, too busy actually, probably because of the autumn holidays. Some really nice shops but just take care that what you buy is authentic Japanese or actually made in Japan.

Scenic area especially during early morning when there isn't too many people. Establishments here are housed in traditional-looking structures, including a Starbucks branch. This is near Kiyomizudera and Yasaka Shrine, so going to any of these two places is easier.

The description of the place is accurate. It is really crowded. The streets are beautiful and in spring it must be really wonderful, but there’s too many people. The souvenirs shop are nice and there’s a lot to try and eat. The gate at the top and the temple are like the others, but there’s a big tradition here to go with the gulags or kimonos, so.. for a foreigner it’s always nice to see.

I took a peaceful walk at night, the shop were closed but it was a delight for taking night pictures. Many temples to visit (were closed due to being late at night). If you want to cool down and relax with a nice walk after a day of Kyoto craziness (so much to do and see but many tourists) head over here for some peace and quiet, sleeped like a baby afterwards!

Lots of very kyoto and Japanese style local food and souvenir shops, plus everywhere you take out your cellphone shoot a photo and it is already instagram quality. Plus plus so many hidden gems of shrines and temples, let alone the famous kyomizu dera is nearby. Wonderful place.

  • 5/5 Porsche T. 3 years ago on Google
Lots of shops that you can buy food, snacks or souvenirs along both sides of the shopping street. After visiting Kiyomizu-dera you can walk through this old town shopping street to Yasaka Shrine.

Beautiful area. Too crowded for good photos unfortunately. A lot of novelty gift shops. Easier to access by bus or cab, train stations are far away.

  • 4/5 Lily 4 months ago on Google
Packed with people in the afternoon. Suggest to go in early morning to avoid crowd. The pictures I showed one in 8 am, one in pm while I had to wait for a moment with a bit less people. For that I gave 4 star.

Charming part of Osaka with old-timey buildings, staircases that create views, but with lots of tourists. Great for a stroll (and if you want to hop into some shops). But beware, it is definitely touristy.

  • 5/5 Amir N. 2 years ago on Google
Such a beautiful atmosphere.. brings you back in time, definitely a popular spot among tourists who app want to snap a great photo.. Come early for a picture without tourists. Late works as well.

This is just an ordinary commercial street, with high repetition of products and a lot of people! The place is crowded with people and vehicles pass by. If you travel to Kyoto, I recommend you not to come here because it is a waste of time and a poor experience.

  • 5/5 Emily R. 5 years ago on Google
Beautiful! There are lots of areas to explore and little shops outside of the main temple with food and drinks. It costs done money to get inside but even before you pay for the ticket there is beautiful scenery all the way up to the entrance.

  • 4/5 Gabriela M. 6 months ago on Google • 17 reviews
Definitely a touristy area with crowds, even in autumn season, but worth a visit for first timers like me. Lots of small shops to peruse, many obvious tourist centric stores with high prices, but keep a good eye out for unique gems hiding in the area!

  • 5/5 Febe M. 6 months ago on Google
This is a really popular and touristic place; it can be quite packed with people and it can be quite hard to walk around, but it is honestly so beautiful. The architecture of the different houses and little shops, is just so beautiful. There are many small shops that sell handmade souvenirs. A must see in my opinion.

  • 5/5 Fran 1 year ago on Google
Gorgeous neighborhood you will climb until you arrive to Kiyomizu-dera temple. As I said before, arrive before 9 am, after that it will be very crowded until 5 pm when it closes and all of the stores at Sennenzaka and Ninenzaka close, after that you will have chance to take pics without people.
