We went during the month flea market to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. It was amazing. So many vendors selling anything you could want from delicious smelling food, to antique kimonos, plates and cups to world war 2 items and many more. They only hold the flea market on the 25th of every month, it is a must see when in Kyoto at that time. The Shrine itself was extremely beautiful and offered so much history to learn about. I loved my time I spent here.

The shrine has a huge antique/flea market every month on the 25th. Some of the vendors start setting up at 6:30 and the rest are usually finished setting up by 9:00am. The market has a lot of dishware from Edo and Meiji along with other pottery, scrolls, Obi, kimono, fabrics and other collectibles. Also food stalls, dried and fresh items.

This shrine is famous for offering worshippers success in education, so there are a lot of students praying for success on their entrance exams. The grounds are beautiful. If you are visiting the area, there are a lot of nice restaurants and cafes nearby. It is well worth a visit.

Kitano Tenmangu is the first shrine where an actual living person became a deity. This person was Sugawara No Michizane, who became the deity Tenjin San after his death. It is a shrine for people to come to for academic success. There is a old school flea market here on the 25th of each month too.

Kitano-Tenmangu in Kyoto Kamigyo-Ku is the United shrine of 12,000 scattered Tenmangus and Tenjin-shrines all over Japan land. This place is the origin of Tenjin-faith founded in 0947 over 1,000 years ago together with Dazaifu-Tenmangu in Kyushu. And is famous for Autumn leaves and Ume plum blossoms in addition to the enshrining of Sugawara no Michizane as a guardian deity for Academic achievement and Martial art improvement. 711,664 square feet place allows 1,500 plum trees with 50 different kinds are available in this season. Shrine maidens and priests all welcome you with a smile and warmth. Slopes are prepared beside the center stone steps so wheelchair users are acceptable. Also, for toilets that are worrisome in cold weather, the latest & sophisticated washing toilets are available.

One of the best check points for autumn leaves in Kyoto. The garden inside has slopes , bridge over the creek , all these makes it very unique and beautiful under the red leaves season.

So peaceful place. You can also enjoy the beautiful path. I am sure it will be even better during Spring. If you are lucky, you can watch a ceremony that takes place. Also, on the 25th of each month there is a bazaar outside with a different variety of products; kimonos, and western style clothing, different kinds of Japanese ornaments and plates, plants etc.

It is plum blossom season now. The scenery is beautiful. It has night illuminations as well, started in Feb. This is a yearly event when you can enjoy the plum blossom view at night. I came during the day. It is equally beautiful. I paid the ticket for 1000 Yen. In exchange we will get a package of tea and wagashi (japanese sweets). Inside the park, there are many bench where we can sit and enjoy our tea.

Beautiful place to see plums bloomed. Not so crowded and very easy to access by subway or bus. You get to see the plums within the shrine for free and if your want to extend your experience you can pay to access the private garden.

Recent pictures from Feb 24, 2022. 梅の花 are gorgeous in February. The hand purification basin usually has a nice flower arrangement. It was decorated beautifully and full of colour for July 7 holiday.

This shrine is known among students and others who pray for being smarter and having a clearer mind. Its architecture is different from the other shrines we’ve been to in Kyoto, with lots of gold tone decors. the maple garden is nice, but the one in Eikando is better maintained.

Lovey afternoon walk as we explored the fleamarket that was there. I wouldn't go out of my way for just the shine but I enjoyed it since we were right in the area.

Lovely evening at the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. They had the illuminated maple tree area with the bridge and a creek. Perfect end to a day in Kyoto. Tried Dango for the first time with the tea as part of the illuminated walk tickets.

The shrine itself has many buildings. It won't be crowded on that day. The weather is nice. You can take your time and take a walk here.

A really beautiful shrine with immaculately clean, well kept facilities. It has a nice serene pace to it, and we were lucky that there was an umeshu tasting festival on the grounds when we went. I came here specifically to pray to the God of Achievement, for my studies and exams.

By far one of my favorite shrines to visit in Kyoto! I got a private blessing done and had the opportunity to enter the main worship hall, it was very spiritual and I am grateful I did it. I also attended their annual Summer Purification Festival, as well as their flea markets on the 25th of every month. Not only this but they have a neat museum where various artifacts from the shrine's history are displayed. I got lucky this most recent time and was able to see the Kitano Tenjin Engi Emaki, illustrated scrolls of the history of the shrine. Plus they usually have katana on display there. Also their gardens are stunning, I went for the Ao-momiji ("Blue" Maple) in the summer. Hoping to go again and be able to experience new years and the Plum Festival in February! The office for picking up Omamori, Goshuin and Ofuda can get quite crowded on the weekends or during the 25th, so you'll probably have to wait a few minutes before being able to get things!

Beautiful shrine. Definitely a great place to stop in and visit. Grounds were large and you didn't have to follow a specific route like some of thr other temples/shrines we visited.

Went there on a Saturday morning. Not too crowded. The area inside is not too big. Saw a lot of students came here, perhaps to wish for good results. Would recommend coming here.

Cool market on the 25th of each month. Handmade vendors, vintage, food. Unique museum with swords and history.

Free local temple. Not worth going out of your way to visit. There are other more interesting temples elsewhere in Kyoto worth your attention. Lots of Japanese school children group trips here, though, and pretty busy despite being a pretty basic temple.

My favourite shrine in all of Kyoto. Just beautiful to walk around. When I was there a group of shrine workers were making the hoop for Tanabata out of reeds which was cool to see! Beautiful goshuin as well which reflects the ornate decorations on the shrine buildings.

The gold and black colors look amazing. The biggest and best shrine without entrance fee in the area. Lots of school classes visiting. There is a ring you can walk through in shapes of an eight. I wonder what kind of fortune it bestows.

A local shrine for prayers . This is one of the autumn leaves palces to visit. It is known mainly to the locals so it is a hidden gem. The locals come here for prayers. The temple ground is free to enter. There is a interior garden where there is an admission charge of about one thousand yen Y1000. Here the trees are well kept and there are a lot of maple trees that are still red and yellow when other places in Kyoto the trees have shed their leaves. It seems that there's also night illumination as well. A must go for autumn leaves and prayers.

Temple located near the famous kinkakuji. This place is much less crowded and more peaceful. You would feel like going to temple not an attraction. If you are here for kinkakuji then sparing your time for this place is not a bad idea.

Beautiful place to see see leaves in Autumn. The entrance fee was quite expensive just adamst of light up at night with a small bring home dessert and free got tea. It was beautiful though at night which my mobile camera couldn't catch. I wish to go again in day time with free entry next time. It definitely will be beautiful!

Not such a massive shrine but very pretty with a park where you can enjoy momijis in fall. This shrine is popular with students who are about to take an exam.

Maybe it was because of the time of the day, it wasn't crowded at all when I visited. The shrine is beautiful, the Koyo area costs 1000yen but they also give you a sweet and free tea, it was a very relaxing experience.

Nice place for watching autumn leaves, relaxing walking in the park with beautiful red bridges, calm corners with benches. The entrance fee is 1000 yen, which includes one sweet and a cup of tea.
