Upscale dining place in the Prince George Hotel. I'm usually not that impressed by hotel restaurants, but Gio is an exception. We stopped by for dinner and got: - Luke's Sourdough Bread: Not sure who Luke is, but his bread is pretty good. Firm on the crust, chewy in the middle. - Foie Gras Two Ways: I love how this had so many sweet elements on it (pressed apples, hazelnut crumbs, rosemary jam) that balanced out the fatty oiliness of the foie gras. - Squash: My favourite dish of the night. The orange vinaigrette complemented the sweetness of the squash really well. The pecorino cheese cut through the veggie taste, and the dash of honey took it over the top. - Arctic Char: Great char on the fish, though a bit too salty for me. Make sure to use the side lemon to dilute the saltiness. - Smoked Scallop: Whoa, this was almost a truly mindblowing dish. The smoke was perfect, but the scallop was just a bit on the rubbery side. The garlic cream sauce it was bathed in was chef's-kiss tasty. - Oh My That's Delicious: A dessert that lived up to its name. Delicate, not overly sweet chocolate mousse elements. But the undisputed star was the homemade blueberry icecream. From the good food, the great service (thanks Rachael for being so efficient, attentive and having a great disposition!), and the cool vibe, Gio is definitely a great place to wine and dine the night away.

Wonderful calamari appetizer which we shared. One had arctic char and the other duck breast. Delicious dinner. We really love dining here.

Oscar was our server and he was amazing! The food is spectacular and the Pandan dessert is to die for! My husband and I came here for our 12 year anniversary and this was well worth the trip all the way from Toronto. Thank you again Oscar for such a wonderful experience!

Wow, we’re sleeping on this place! Saturday night, the place was like 1/4 full. It’s been a around for a long time and was known to be fancy back when I was in high school, but over the years with all the new restaurants this place has kind of been forgotten. The scallops, short ribs, octopus and cocktails were fantastic! The ceviche (was told it was new on the menu) needed more lime and salt but the fish was very fresh, after adjusting it it was great as well. The parsnip dessert was cute but just tasted like a spice cake, maybe go for the chocolate dessert next time…There will definitely be a next time! The Asian bartender/server also made dinner very enjoyable. Go with his recommendations! Gosh those scallops…with a sweet creamy savoury sauce and perfectly cooked scallops… I’ll be dreaming of you 😂

A great place for a special treat. Superlative service, deliciously different food, excellent wines and cocktails. We shared the bone marrow & snow crab starter (a weird & wonderful combination!) Mains were foie gras burger and halibut & chips. Our only gripe was that the fancy chips/fries did not work: bland, almost tasteless and awkward.

If you're looking for a bathroom mirror for special evening selfies, I suggest the full length mirror in the hallway instead. 😅 From the time we entered to the time we left I felt taken care of, accepted even though I have no idea what most of the stuff on the menu means, and comfortable in the calming atmosphere. After 2 years of not going out, Gio made my "date night" with a close friend so memorable. Experiencing food I've never tasted before, having our server take a picture for us, and not having to worry about food allergies & sensitivities because the questions were asked. Thank you for a fun evening of giddy deliciousness! 😋

Gio's pretensions far outweigh its delivery. Management needs to get a real chef PRONTO! It was perhaps the worst restaurant meal I have ever had, at the highest cost. I am 70 years old and have travelled around the world. Both mine, and my husband's meals were appallingly bad. As soon as mine arrived, he asked 'Where is the rest of your dinner?". When his arrived he promptly lifted his Atlantic trout out of the curdled swill that surrounded it and ate it off his bread plate. My two tiny, unaccompanied agnolotti were the texture of cardboard. I managed to eat half of one and tried picking out the tiny smear of mushroom duxelle, but the other was headed for the garbage bin. Nothing else was on the plate for $31., and even the bread cost extra. The next night we ate at the Keg right across the road and got a much better meal for less money. Oh, and the ambiance? 1980's hotel breakfast bar. There is none.

Gio is considered a 4 diamond restaurant, and I can absolutely see why. Right from the moment we set foot into the restaurant, the welcome and attentiveness was impeccable. The menu is seasonal, so what you may see online in terms of menu may not match what's currently being offered. This means that the ingredients used are fresh and local, hence why the change in menu depending on availability. All that to say that they chana masala (included in picture) I ordered was absolutely divine. The basmati rice was cooked to perfection, and the chickpeas were beautifully flavourful. But the stand out here was the homemade mango chutney - it was quite possibly the best chutney I've ever had. Our server, Oscar, was a pleasure to deal with from the very first moment. Being also the main bartender, he was able to recommend some fantastic cocktails for us to try depending on what we were in the mood for. And the cocktails: on my! They're inventive, modern, and a pleasure for the sense! I'd highly recommend trying one! All in all, an excellent place to dine with what I consider absolutely 'bargain' prices for a 4 diamond restaurant! Highly recommended!

We saw the menu online and it looked good so we decided to make a reservation. We did not realize this restaurant was in a hotel and did not expect the food to be as good as it was. It was an unexpected great meal. We had the carrots to start and I hade the shrimp and scallops. I loved every bite. The cocktails were good too. Were able to handle a peanut allergy.

Gio's was our family choice for Thanksgiving dinner. The Cornush Hen was a brilliant stand-in for turkey. All accompaniments were delicious, as was salad and desert. Other dishes ordered were scallops - perfection and wild boar - amazingly tender and delicious. Our server, Alan, was top-notch. He even switched floral arrangments, as we wanted a booth, but loved the yellow flowers on a center table. Highly recommended.

The staff were so fabulous, the service was excellent and the food so delicious. I really have never had a bad meal here. We were meeting family from out of town for dinner and they didn’t rush us one bit. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

Restaurant has a chic classy vibe. The waiter we had, had fantastic manners and was a delight. Don't get me started on the food... absolutely divine. I wish I could back in time and eat my main once over! Highly recommend!

Easily one of the best brunch meals I've had anywhere. Ordered the Ploughman's and would visit again in a heartbeat when I'm back in Halifax.

Good ambiance, professional and long term waiting staff. The location is near many other posh restaurants in Halifax. Gio stands out in its modern take on exotic menu options; excellent visual presentations are thoroughly backed up by delightful assault of the taste buds. Tender meats seasoned just right with sophisticated sauces of international inspirations executed with precise degree of desired doneness, which is indicative of the chef’s devotion to innovation as well as attention to details.

My wife and I decided to go Gio's for my 60th birthday. We loved our dining experience! First of all, our server, Olivia, was truly a gem. She was so personable, friendly and knowledgeable. She is passionate about food and it shows. She made us feel very welcomed. The food was fantastic! We had two appetizers: raw oysters and beet tartar. Both delicious were delectable. I had the arctic char and my wife had the mushroom ravioli. Both dishes were well prepared. Thought was given to detail. Even the chef came out and greeted guests. I thought that was a very nice touch. I told him how much we loved our meals. I think that Gio's is one of the best restaurants in the city. Don't miss checking it out!

A wonderful experience at Gio tonight - the meal was incredible from start to finish. I had the black garlic creamy scallops followed by the homemade Nduja and tagliatelle dish. Absolute delight. Incredible service by the lovely Olivia, who was so patient and welcoming. She made me feel at ease instantly and this experience is priceless. Thank you Gio for fantastic food and top quality service. I will definitely be back for my next trip to Halifax!

Went for happy hour as we always do .This is the perfect way to try a new restaurant without spending a fortune and if food is mediocre you just don't go back .Ppl kept saying how amazing this place was.. Worst meal I've had so far in all of Halifax..Gio if this is how you promote your restaurant..You should be ashamed.. Mussels had no anything really...no sauce, no liquid.no flavour..The Nachos..yes Nachos on your happy hour menu..really..Cold ,no cheese..Taco bell has better stuff..lol.The shrimp salad..where to start..the 4 shrimps were so overcooked we had to fight to get them off their tail. The actual lettuce did not even have dressing.. Anyways I wont be bringing any of my parties at this restaurant As a retired chef..This is really bad food..

Party of 6 and tried a whole lot of the different dishes. cocktails, eh so so. Appetizer Ceviche, Short Rib, Bone marrow we very good, the Ceviche was excellent. Mains included, Boar, Fish and Chips, Octopus. Octopus was good, Fish and Chips very good, Boar very good but none of the mains were excellent. Desert Chocolate Banana excellent, and a cheesecake variation which also was excellent. So overall, food was ranging from good to excellent, the majority was very good ehe 4 stars. would we go back? not so sure, maybe.

Delicious and inventive food expertly presented in a comfortable upmarket setting. The staff were friendly and there was a decent selection of affordable wines. We loved the bone marrow and snow crab as a starter, our mains were delicious and highly recommend the deserts. Would definitely come back again!

Great starters of calamari and spanish potato bombas. Disappointing spanish prawns as they were much too salty for my taste; not a fan of the sauce. Could not finish my plate. Good attentive service.

Lemon Drop Martini..the best I had the lobster and my husband had shrimp and scallops. Cooked to perfection. Ambiance very nice. As good as the whole experience was the staff was over the top. Terry was our server. She has been serving for 18 yrs and she should be hired to travel to other restaurants and give seminars on how to he the best server. I recommend highly. Susan Sprague

🫤 Overall experience was not pleasant. This was recommended by my friend, so we thought to give it a try. Bartenders was fantastic, very professional and helpful all around, however, the waitress on the other side was completely different. Not only she forget to check on our table for about 35 minutes...
