This museum is free on the 1st Saturday of each month. I visited and liked the variety it offers. It’s a 4 museum in 1. Each area for a different one. In overall is great to spend some time seeing good taxidermy examples from beautiful birds to, mammals. There’s a great massive white shark that will surprise you. A lot of skeletons of different categories, butterflies and so on. On the other museums on the building they offer an interesting approach on the archeological history and on the cultural aspect of Lausanne. You can see some elements from Napoleon, some heritage pieces, coins, sculptures, etc. you can see great examples of stones, cristals, and tons of specimens of the geology world. You can easily spend 2 or 3 hours roaming around.

the exhibitions and the building itself are stunning, but it is very frustrating for non french speakers to visit. There’s little (almost non existing) information about the pieces in english, which makes the experience superficial. I hope they change that soon

Very well maintained museum with a lot of fancy stuff. Very interesting and entry was free. Would totally go again. They have clean toilets and some places where you can sit down and eat and drink. When we went there was also random art between the exhibits which was kinda funny. Very beautiful museum!

A very classic European style museum. A great value (it's free!), housed in a beautiful historical building. I didn't necessarily see anything I haven't seen before in other museums, but it was still a good way to pass a few hours in Lausanne.

Must see place for tourists. The palace is magnificently big and contains lots of exhibitions like paleontology, archeology, geology, zoology, etc which were free to see during our trip in summer 2016. We spent 2 hours and felt it was less if you have interest in looking closely at the exhibitions.

Amazing architecture both in the interior and exterior of the building. The admission is free but you need to visit the reception to take the tickets. There are different museums and exhibitions to visit in every floor of the building.

This is a fantastic museum! It's not huge, which is actually a plus. It took me and my four kids two excursions to cover the pre-history, history, and ecology expositions. The history on Central Europe is excellent, especially 10,000+ BC human settlements. It is also FREE to attend!

We didn't visit inside but the building itself is a great piece of art and the garden on the platform is worth staying for a while, looking down the platza.

A perfect museum for kids and family to learn more about the past of the environment of that region as well as zoology, anthropology, geology etc. Thanks to the regional authorities to give us this opportunity without paying any entrance fees. Best regards.

We visited during the Lausanne Lumière festival. Very scenic the play of light was brilliant. It costs nothing, you can park your car or take public transport...buy take away food or carry your own...sit and enjoy the view. There are many shops and cafes in this area. Several of the sites are walking distance from one another. The site starts every evening 6pm during December all the way to Christmas. Do dress warm and check for rains beforehand.

Absolutely stunning museum with lots of history about Canton Vaud (dating as far back as 1st century AD), as well as other rotating exhibits (geology, rocks/minerals, architecture, Celtic & Roman abodes, burial styles, shoe making instruments, weapons, ...). It was free for adults to get in when we went so even more of a Must visit

Honestly, the Archaeology, Geology and Zoology sections are worth the visit. Keep about 1.5-2 hours in hand and slightly more if you come with curious kids. There are washrooms within the museum and outside. There's also a cafeteria. If you need more information, feel free to contact the museum staff.
