If you love railways, locomotives and trains this is right place for you. Most of steam locomotives are located inside of main museum building and are renovated and well preserved. There is a lot of railway related stuff in museum like railway workers clothes and telegraphs. On the outside you can find more locomotives which are not renovated and are rusty. Perfect spot for good photographs. Recommended!

All the beautiful engines in one place. With the afternoon sun shining through the windows, the sights are pure magic.

During a visit in Slovenia, we went to the “museum”. There is small exhibition inside (that will take like 5 minutes) all the rest is in terrible condition and not worth a visit. For sure not worth to pay 8 EUR entry fee for adult + parking fee. As a side note: get a tetanus shot before visiting the junk yard.

The most historical place. A plesant suprise awaits you in arrival (old tickets). It's like you've crossed the threshold of a century into the past. A large collection, well preserved...

This museum is really charming and worth the visit. The exhibits are very interesting and it's one of the most interesting museums in Ljubljana. However, it also has so much unrealized potential. Old locomotives are rusting in the yard and the explanation plaques are underwhelming. I think this place could do wonders with some additional funds and proper marketing. Then again, the ticket was a bit pricey (8€, plus the parking). Hopefully the museum will continue to grow, because it really deserves better than it already is.

By far the best I've seen in a while. Should be on every rail enthusiasts list to visit. Brilliant museam of signaling with live demos available on request. Next to an operational yard so you might get lucky and see a few movements there as well. No restaurant or coffee shop so eat before going. Car park on site.

Interesting museum, but explanations are scarce. Some artifacts could use more attention.

A nice set of exhibits. However, much better data sheets could be made. I am lacking for example producer data, usage period... a simple working signal is missing to at least show the context of the controls. At least one working key unit would explain its workings, or a working mock-up...

Great trains, but with no supporting texts about what are you looking, also tour around the museum is in the map that you can get in museum, but walking outside can be tricky, especially with children they can get into or around equipment which is not properly stored safety wise. Pay attention if you choose to do circle around museum.

    – Rusty locomotives – I am not the world’s leading expert when it comes to museums. Nor am I a rail buff or ferroequinologist (Yes, I am proud of my four-dollar word). So, let me level with you, I don’t know the first thing about trains, and I might even label myself as a cultural barbarian. However, I am asking you to give me the benefit of the doubt here. Why? Well, that’s simple. This museum isn’t like any ordinary railway museum. Sure, it’s a Slovenian cultural monument. Granted that some parts fell in disrepair, its aesthetic appeal remains stimulating. 100% wabi-sabi. On top of that, this former railway facility could be classified as grassroots-heritage. The drive and determination of the ex-Yugoslavian rail workers, back in the sixties, gave birth to this spot. Inside the museum, you will find some perfectly restored, antique, and instagrammable locomotives. Some of which date back to the late 19th century. It’s thanks to those railfans that these fantastic feats of human ingenuity, are still on display. What’s the fun part about coming here? Well, if you don’t want to pay an entrance fee, you can still roam through a post-apocalyptic world for free. The abandoned site, around the boiler room where the restored iron horses are on display, is freely accessible. However, do mind your step as you imagine that Mad-Max is driving through Tivoli, rushing to come to your aid. Have fun trying to find the perfect Instagram snapshot on this facility!

It wasn’t spacial inside, but I found it appropriate. I hate being overwhelmed by informations and items. I was content. What you need to look after is the entrance is very ignorable. The museum is not in the middle of nowhere but the city is so quite and so uninhabited, that it contradictorily felt so.

This place was modified for a special event. The parking is nearby but isn't free. The establishment does have toilets, but since the event hosted lots of people, additional mobile toilets were present outside. Nevertheless, the venue is large and could host concerts and large gatherings.

Unfortunately some trains are in pretty bad conditions, but inside all the steam locos are nicely refurbished. Don't miss that they have an other building, where they have most probably the biggest Siemens-Halske collection in the region.

Fascinating collection of steam locos. Not many diesel locos or carriages. Interesting collection of signaling equipment, uniforms, track types, maintenance items & railway art. There is an old booking hall.

Was fun, but they could do better. You can see that they want to show you something, but it there is only small part that looks nice. All around is dirty.

If you're into railroad, it's definitely worth your time to visit. If you're into Slovenian railroad, it's a must. They hold lots of the technical history of this area, especially old switchboards.

Extraordinary exhibition! Huge locomotives on display! You may enter a couple of vehicles. Old gadgets, phones, ramps, clocks, offices, uniforms, tickets, passes, communication equipment. An art gallery upstairs, too. Do not be discouraged by the look of the entrance or the yard. Inside is amasing! Take your kids, and your grandparents, too! Also amenities are nice & clean.

The railway museum is not much more than a central building with stored old trains and a site building with old railway equipment and clothing. It is nice to see all of this but it is that big so do not have to high of an expectation when planning to visit. Still loved what I have seen here and it has given me information about the development of the railway system in Slovenia over the years.

My favourite museum in Ljubljana. The best time to come is during special events because you can not only see the museum but also take a ride on the garden railway, visit a room with beautiful model railroad etc.
