FOOD & DRINK My wife and I dined at Gap Tavern on a quiet weeknight in early Oct. The Gap Tavern is part of the ALH Group, whose stable includes the Brunswick Hotel, the famous Royal Exchange in Toowong, the Indooroopilly Hotel, the Newmarket, the Morrison and many other fab pubs around Brisbane. We’ve dined at a number of them and always found the standards to be consistently high. We’ve never been disappointed at an ALH Hotel, and the Gap Tavern was no exception. We started with two refreshing cocktails, the espresso martini and the vodka and orange juice. They were both excellently made and delivered personally to our table by the friendly bartender. Great way to start the evening. As seniors, we were able to avail ourselves of the generous seniors menu. We ordered four items to share: calamari with lemon, aioli, chips and salad ($14), beef rissoles with peas and mash ($14), a garden salad ($9) and stir fried Asian vegetables with ginger and soy ($9). Every dish was delicious. The calamari was fresh and chewy with a crispy batter, whilst my rissoles were cooked to perfection and accompanied by peas and a dollop of creamy mash. The wholesome salad and crunchy Asian vegetables were the ideal complement to the calamari and the rissoles. Clearly, only the best premium grade ingredients are used. All the dishes were neatly presented to the table on elegant white crockery. Serving sizes were generous and we couldn’t have been happier with our meals. AMBIENCE G.T. is a large place that’s airy and comfortable, with indoor and outdoor seating. Being a warm spring night we decided to sit outdoors, which was cool and pleasant although this is the kiddie-friendly part of the place with a little play area. There were a couple of large family groups with kids, some of whom were a bit out of control, running up and down on the timber flooring. If you want a quieter, more sedate atmosphere, it’s best to sit indoors, which isn’t such a bad thing, because the indoors dining room is a plush and elegant space with low mood lighting, carpets throughout and sturdy wood and steel furniture. The ambience there is calm, laid back and relaxed, with good acoustics. SERVICE For the first time at an ALH Hotel, we decided to order using the app. It’s a fairly simple process of scanning the barcode, which is affixed to a little disc on each table. The menu will appear on your phone and you can simply order and pay from there. After ordering, it didn’t take long for the meals to arrive. Our young lady server was neatly turned out in a smart black uniform. She was friendly, polite and efficient and meals came out quickly. The only disadvantage of this kind of ordering is that all the food comes out at once, even though we had intended the calamari to be an entree. I guess one needs to call the waitress and make a special request. COST With our seniors' discounts, we paid a modest 75 pesos for two cocktails, an entree, a main meal, a plate of vegetables and a salad. That’s solid value for money in these hyperinflationary times, when our little Aussie peso is becoming more worthless by the day. PARKING Easy, free parking in the car park just outside the venue. At one end of the car park is the handy well stocked Dan Murphy’s liquor store, so if you’re still thirsty after your meal, you can stock up there. SUMMARY We had a pleasant evening here and everything ran smoothly. This is a first class venue, that’s airy, spacious and comfy with different seating options. Food is outstanding, service is efficient, friendly and attentive, and the app ordering makes the whole process easy. Add to that clean toilets and free parking right outside and you have all the ingredients for a perfect dinner with friends or family.

Not a fan of using the QR code and phone to read menus and pay for everything. Didn't seem to help the staff either. Many orders sent outside ended up with the waitress(plural) asking if it was for our table. A positive was there were a few vegan options but nothing interesting. Swapping a steak or chicken breast for a processed "schnitzel" is still more than a lot of pubs do. I liked the range of beers on tap. Outside dining was nice in the evening and we could keep an eye on the kids in the playground.

We visited the Gap Tavern this afternoon with our kids. Staff were really friendly and willing to help but the food was a real let down. I ordered the fish and chips and got two pieces of battered packet reconstituted fish and some chips for $25. Place looked shabby, half the fans weren’t working, I wouldn’t go again.

The renovations to the Tavern are good. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff were pleasant and attentive. The food still has a lot of room for improvement. The meals we got were lukewarm, small portion of cold chips and a little lack lustre. This could be one of Brisbanes greatest pubs if they sort the food out…

My family enjoys going to The Gap Tavern. The service is usually prompt and good. Their menu system (the use me&u) is easy to use and very convenient. The food is usually quite good. I like a nice steak n chips meal with a salad on the side. I always enjoy my meal here. Why didn't I give them 5 stars? They are often sold out of various salads and meals, meaning that you have to choose something else. If this just happened once I would not mention it, but it happens regularly, especially if you like things that are a bit alternative, like a Buddha Bowl. That said, they do have a large range, so my family always gets something they are happy to eat. I should also mention they have a good selection of beers wines and spirits as you might expect. I like to buy red wine by the glass and they usually have something I like.

Last Saturday my boyfriend thought it would be a nice idea to go have a nice quiet dinner at The Gap Tavern. We probably would have had a more quiet night out at a Heavy Metal concert, there were kids up to 8 of them ranging from ages 8 to 12 running and screaming out in around and outside the tavern. Yes the tavern provides a children's area but these children were running around the tables in and out of the restrooms. What got my boyfriend and I was the fact that neither the parents or the staff did or said anything to stop all we saw was the staff rolling their eyes. We noticed how other people around us were also feeling uncomfortable by all the disruption and noise. I mean this children could have knocked a patron over or a staff member carrying hot food and I'm sure that then the parents would have carried on blaming the staff. To top off to all the children's raucous in the dinning area they had tv's showing the footy and the men/families a few tables from us would yell out every time their team scored. We are all for people enjoying their games but in a dinning area? Why not have a games room where your patrons can go to enjoy games and not disrupt your dinning customers. As for the food, well it was only just above average 6/10. The meat was a bit too fatty and gristly but over all, all the food lacked flavor all was far too bland including the garlic bread the only sparkle in our food was the Diamante I found on my plate. Dessert was somewhat better I had the cheesecake my boyfriend the oozing chocolate cake they were much nicer than the food but as for presentation there was no creativity both having the very same dressings a bit disappointing. Over all we will not be going back unless we want to yell and scream at each other in order to be heard over a flavorless meal ....

Food was surprisingly good for the average pub meal! Unfortunately we had booked late and found it hard to get in amongst the crowd, nevertheless we still got a table for 6!a little disappointing to see so many empty tables that were probably booked and either no show or cancelled. Good vibe, Very dedicated team, they were understaffed and the food took a little longer than expected, but that was no one's fault, it came out hot and fresh and there were no complaints from our table! Cheers again. Will be back, next time will hopefully snag a table on the deck, the view is awesome. 👌😎😀

My fiancé and I recently came to The Gap Tavern and ordered two steaks cooked rare. When the restaurant manager checked in to ask how our meals were, we informed them that the steaks were cooked slightly over. Without any hesitation they replaced our entire meals which were then cooked to perfection plus two free drinks! Couldn’t believe it!! We were super impressed with the level of customer service. Will 100% be coming back.

Great atmosphere and an awesome place for young family's looking for some enjoyment and the kids can run about. The service varied as some staff were more switched on than others but we had an awesome waitress who clearly liked her job. The food was a bit of a let down. My old man's stake looked good, I ordered a ceaser salad and just couldn't find or taste any anchovies at all, no big deal as I still ate it and was happy with it, I just absolutely love anchovies 😜. My mother's meal was just ... what was it? Ordered the roast of the day from the seniors menu and she recieved some sort of corned beef and white sauce with veggies. Not exactly a roast. My mum being lovely and innocent just picked at it and didn't say anything to staff as she didn't want to cause a fuss. So the seniors menu might be for someone that you don't love and has trouble chewing food. All in all we will be back. We have had food there before and it was good so could of just been an off night. So atmosphere, great. Good for young families. Food, don't expect anything special. Price, fair. Staff, friendly and polite.

Absolutely fantastic, brilliant atmosphere, I love the pokies and keno. Toilets are beautiful, love the vending machine in there. Pie is to die for! Smile with a service and ice cold beers to go along with it…

Nice place. Booking tables for a half empty dining area was a bit stange though. Food was good, portions decent and standard pub prices these days. Pictured is parma, chips & salad. Great view. The gaming lounge is the real winner though, the DOSA there is a beautiful spot to have a few beers with less hubbub.

We loved our lunch at the tavern. We sat on the deck surrounded by a lovely green vista. The service was great and I really appreciated the time one of the staff took to show me how to add my loyalty card to the me&u app. Our meat lovers pizza was definitely enough for 2 and the base was crispy and delicious. We tried the caramel cheesecake for dessert- amazing!! It’s a busy pub so book if you want an outside table with a view

Post update, Dec 31, 2022....My aunt, cousin and I regularly enjoy celebrating family birthdays at The Gap Tavern. Today we were looked after very well by the staff as usual. Special thanks to assistant manager Ben who went out of his way to make sure we felt like valued patrons while celebrating my cousins birthday lunch.

Christmas Day Lunch was exceptional for us. Our first time celebrating this special day at The Gap Tavern. It was set up beautifully, the staff were lovely and happy to help, and the food was superb. There were only three of us for Christmas Lunch this year so lunch out seemed a great idea. The Gap Tavern didn't disappoint. We have told others how wonderful it was and how the space was really pleasing to be in. Thank you to the Manager and his staff. Well done.

Thanks to Ben, who gave excellent advice about the wines that were on offer and that everyone enjoyed. Food was good and reasonably priced and service was good. While we might have benefitted from better advice about where to sit when we rang to book, overall we left thinking well of our Gap Tavern experience.

Easy dining and a good selection of meals and drinks. Only criticism is the surcharge on purchases made using the QR code. In my opinion, using the QR code means one less person requiring to wait tables, freeing up time to redirect the staff effort somewhere else. Otherwise, the staff were brilliant, friendly and engaging.

What a huge disappointment we had. We were on holiday from New Zealand and wanted to go out for a nice meal with all the family. It was a Monday night so not very busy. There was 10 of us, we all ordered at the same time, at the bar. 6 people got their meals. The other 4 waited and waited. When we queried where the other meals were we were told that because other tables had ordered on the QR code they went in front and ours wouldn't be long. Still we waited and waited. By now those that had received their meals were finished and the other 4 still waited. Finally we got to talk to the manager who said the 4 meals would be another 10-15 minutes!! We gave up and left. They did refund the 4 meals.

I've heard from a few people that this is a lovely place to meet and have a meal with beautiful views of the hills and bush land surrounding the Tavern. It's been a long time since I had visited this tavern so I was looking forward to it. However it was a disappointing visit to say the least. We were strongly encouraged to use the app to view the menu and order. It's not my first time around the block with using this technology so it's easy to use and quick to order and pay so you can just leave at the end of the night. However i had this feeling things were not working out with the kitchen when I could see meals being served to tables around us who arrived after us. We asked about our meals 3 times - after 30 mins, after 1 hour and at the 1.5 hour mark and kept getting told it was going to be another 10 mins, the kitchen was short staffed and it could be a problem with the app. You should never express excuses to customers about your service. I know from being heavily involved in a family business for 26 years myself. All we ordered was a chicken burger, seafood basket, steak and seafood linguini - nothing too elaborate to take almost 2 hours to make. The pub was at about 80% capacity with patrons but were all ordering at different times. The shift manager that assisted us with our concerns did offer a full refund after our meal but I was still keen to at least give them a second chance if the food tasted good. Very very disappointing. Everyone else at my table said their food was mediocre in flavor. Mine, had NO flavor at all and I had to ask for some chilli sauce. No garlic or herbs, just bitter rocket mixed in with the linguini that really didn't have any place being there, overpowering the almost absent flavor of the seafood. Probably the worst seafood linguini I have tried and I have had this dish in restaurants and cafes all over the Eastern Seaboard of Australia and overseas. We were looking forward to our meals despite the kitchen delay, having come all the way from Coorparoo and Samford!!! But not once did the waitress come to our table in the first hour to check on us. And despite being offered a refund, this will undoubtedly take min 5 days to be visible in my bank account because it is not directly from the Tavern but from the app provider they use for menus and purchasing. And when I went to the toilet, it had not been cleaned, a horrible mess was left and it smelt atrocious. So I'm sorry, whilst I am a level 8 Google reviewer and prefer to give positive feedback on places I visit, I was not able to find anything complimentary about this experience. THE BITTERNESS OF POOR QUALITY IS LONG REMEMBERED LONG AFTER THE SWEETNESS OF LOW PRICE IS FORGOTTEN.

Food was ok. Some items like the crispy skin Barra was warm and not crispy. Pricing average. Drinks came quickly, however entrees were slow. Ordering system effective. Good for a Tavern meal.

When we were ready to leave we asked for our dessert to go and they packed it in foil. And didn't give our children's dessert. We waited more than 45minutes for our dessert after asking 6 times.

Wow, have not been here for over 10 years. Glad to see it has not changed. The unhappiest lady at the bar forgot our orders despite having more staff on than patrons eating. Once realising they had mixed it up, they clearly rushed it resulting in the chicken schnitzel being overcooked and the chips being almost raw. $25 for that. Good lord, tasteless and terrible food with the place having about as much ambience as doctors waiting room. The perfect example of what happens when go so long without having any real competition in the area.

  • 4/5 Sandra B. 3 months ago on Google New
There with a group of 12. Food was great, and came out quickly. The waitresses were passing food across the tables instead of walking around the table, not good when a hot coffee in a fairly heavy cup is passed over the table over a persons shoulder. Otherwise, it’s a great place to have dinner

The gap offers a very open venue and an excellent outlook through the huge windows. The staff were friendly and efficient, the meals were delivered in good time and good portion size. My only quibble and it's minor is the white wine list is limited. Go there you won't be disappointed! Cheers.

We ate at the said hotel today after a work activity, the meals took over an hour to come out, all of our meals were some kind of deep fired nothing out of the extraordinary that would take time like a well done steak. I had the southern fried chicken burger the worst burger I’ve ever had not only was it cold it was something I would expect to come out of a bad fast food joint, the aioli had been sitting somewhere as it had a thick skin it I just hope it doesn’t come to visit me again tonight. If you want to eat a below average meal eat here if you would like a nice dining experience dine some place else.

Had a catch up with my high school friends at the Gap Tavern on Friday night, for the first time in ages. Was impressed at the new decor and the wine list, and also really happy with my eye fillet. Was somewhat disappointed 😞 when the Chapel Hill Shiraz glass that came with my steak was quite oxidised - as it definitely put a dampener on my excellent meal. I used the online app to purchase my meal and drinks, I was also disappointed when I ordered my final drink (instead of dessert 🍨) and it had starting to quieten down, and there were several staff, yet it took 18 minutes to finally get our drinks. At least the second glass was freshly opened and not oxidised. Staff were clueless about wines, such as far cry to when it was run by Quinn Hotels. Still had a good night, possibly more the great company and meal.

Great staff, plenty of drink options even though I don't drink. Immaculate restaurant and toilets. Fast service. Great for laptop & mobile work as there was no music or it was very quiet. I sat next to a power point at the window. My colleague was very happy with his steak. Lots of parking but not many shaded options.

Went for an early lunch today and service was excellent. Received at the door by Isaac who was very polite and informed us the kitchen would be opening soon, made recommendations for drinks and food and was very quick serving us. I had a grilled fish and chips, which it was nice but slightly small portion, it was only 20 bucks so understandable.

  • 3/5 Daniel H. 8 months ago on Google
The service could be better. Staff were a little abrupt, and could learn to use their head a little more. One example, the one waitress asks me if I could place the beer for her, granted she was carrying a tray but that’s your job eh? Also the position that was chosen for us got pummelled by a direct screen showing Keno results. Freaking Keno! I’m sorry but I’m pretty anti gambling myself, and forced into that position was somewhat annoying. I would much rather it played a video of a fireplace. Or some nature scenes. The food, however, was really good. And that’s why I’m giving three stars at this time.

Recently turned 18 and went to watch the ufc today, sat down ordered a beer and a pizza and my girlfriend (under 18) ordered a soft drink, got asked for my ID which was fine and then they asked my girlfriend for her id and she told them she was under 18 this employee (Paula I think her name was) then rudely said “I don’t care I asked for ur ID not ur age” we were then told that she couldn’t be in there without her parent or guardian. I work at a bar not far and I understand if somethings against the rules but there is no reason to be rude about things, a family venue like this should prioritise customer service and withhold snappy comments when we clearly just weren’t clear on house rules, fought to get refund and left, missed the Suga Sean fight 😔

I like the Gap Tavern, it's in a nice location and the staff are good but for some reason they cant cook a steak without it tasting as if it has been dragged through a charcoal pit. I have mentioned it over the last year but every time it's the same disgusting char taste, I'm assuming their basting it in something. I will return to The Gap Tavern when they can cook a steak properly.

The menu is standard ALH pub fare - graziers pies and meat BUT the food is always well cooked and allow changes to dishes, which I love! They have a specials menu which is good too - it includes pasta. While the food is dependably good, the staff make this place - they are always so friendly and attentive, plus the Saturday teams seem to always have a great sense of humour. It’s quite relaxing on the deck too with it’s nice leafy outlook.

A quick, ''I'll be with you shortly", goes a long way. The food was fantastic... best rissole's I've had in a long time. Loved the caramelised onion gravy and creamy mash that went with it. There was a special on the Great Northern, $7 for a pint. Cheap! Quiet atmosphere... will certainly be going back!

Not a good experience. Roast dinner left alot to be desired. Meat tough, huge amount of under cooked carrots and flooded in gravy. Was this cooked by a professional chef!!!!! Ladies toilet would not flush. Building seen better days.

Slow service, took 1hr 10 to get 3 meals.. no explanation or apology from staff. Curry was ordinary, steak was over cooked, salad was boring.

Came back here after a year of living South side. Still the best atmosphere and food of any pub we've been to.

😠 Food & Cocktails were absolutely amazing, however, the lack of service forgetting a soft drink for one of the children at our table, and then forgetting a burger for one of the adults, is unforgivable. When the wait staff told the chef that a burger was missing, he shrugged his shoulders and contin...
