If you want craft lagers then have a go and ignore this review. I will be honest and say that I am a fan of old school pubs (my other reviews make this obvious) so when the barman couldn't even pronounce the first draught they had after I asked what was on offer it wasn't a good sign. I popped in for a pint and left half of it behind as it was just not to my taste. If you like a random selection of stuff then give it a go as the service was quick and there seemed to be a few people in there but if, like me, you want an old school boozer do not be fooled by the outside and keep on walking.

The Commercial Tavern is a traditional British style bar in the Shoreditch area. From the outside, it doesn't looks like much even a little run down. At first glance there also seemed to be multiple entrances, but there's actually one being the one with the double doors in the middle of the building. Inside, it looked like it could do with some lighting, but not too dark. The ambience is nice and although not exactly quiet, it's not so loud that you have to yell to have a conversation. Drinks are typical for a British style bar, but a bit more expensive especially for this part of London.

Lovely spot. Everything was great. Service, drinks and ambience. Definitely can see this being a go to neighborhood bar or coming out of your way for a dependable good time.

Quite an institution in Spitalfields this east end booze place had an enjoyable atmosphere. Not too busy but busy enough (I went on a Friday night).

Just wondered in for a drink. Did not eat here, but the usual range of drinks you would expect from a bar. DJ on site. Friendly bar staff. I would say majority of the crowd was in 20s to early 30s age range. Even so we did not feel uncomfortable. Great decor.

Great pub, large selection of drinks. They used to have pizza and food option show we they are still renovating their kitchen which means the food gets there from another place. It’s a great spot in shoreditch

Unfriendly staff, half asleep, Dragonball t-shirt, leaning on the bar like they don't need us to come in and contribute to their wages. Take a 3 stars and use it as constructive feedback. Get yourself a proper pub character to front your bar, someone who will greet costumers as they go in and spend their hard earned money and keep you in business

Really great Christmas Party. We hired out the Commercial Tavern for a work Christmas Party. The team was so fun, friendly and attentive - nothing was too much trouble. Also great value for money considering it's in central Shoreditch. Would definitely recommend and book again!

Fun bar to hang with friends. Ordered cocktails upstairs and had a really great time until they closed on a Saturday night!

Great pub. Full of character and few locals as well as the obligatory hipsters...

It's so bad it's good, the decor! Omg it looks like someone tipped up a skip and used the contents for practical and aesthetic use! We loved it and will definitely go back! So quirky and the staff were excellent and welcoming.

Dive bar star pub. Really interesting quirky details!

A really nice pub let down by a miserable female bar staff, observed her snapping at customers and refused do re do a G&T (not exactly a complex drink). Shame as this was my fave pub in Herne Hill, will drink in the half moon instead.

Cool pub, really nice friendly staff. Booked for a large group for my birthday and the bar staff were very accommodating and even gave us our own room upstairs

Warm and welcoming atmosphere, friendly bar staff and a good drink selection. I spotted some Trappistes Rochefort in the fridge, which is always a good sign. They are also doing beautiful cocktails. Shabby- chic on purpose (people who are expecting a more traditional pub interior might find it a bit tacky). Mostly younger people were there, some indie pop was playing in the background, toilets were clean. The prices are what they are in this part of London because rents and energy costs are what they are in this part of London. Which means not exactly cheap....but hey, treat yourselves.

It was fine. Not much else to say. Plain if anything. Dreary maybe. We had a beer each and left to find somewhere more to our liking.

Local is fine, staff is fine, the only thing I did not like was my bloody mary. Pure water tasted like cold sriracha. Beers are nice.

A nice friendly & busy coming & going little pub. The two people behind bar were very welcoming, especially one young girl who was only too happy to tell me a little history with regards the odd type artwork on wall (BMX Bike In A Frame) Not as interesting as I thought the story was gonna be but it was done with a smile & in a way that will make sure I return. Own lager brands only but did have Guinness, which was OK. Definitely recommend a visit.

Was quiet at noon ish when we stopped in. Good beer, very historic look and feel to it. Loved the lampshade chandelier hanging from the ceiling.

After a busy day in the city stopped by for drinks and pizzas which were all great. However, staff seriously need some being friendly and smiling training!!!!! Girl behind bar took our near 70 quid order with not a hint of a smile, thank you or any actual genuine interest in us or her job at all!!! Was actually quite laughable. Have a word with your barstaff. A smile should really be a bare minimum.

Great location. Small food menu which makes it easy to decide (pizza). The food is nice and came quickly but the pizza base is too thin when you have one with lots of toppings. Good beer selection. Polite staff and clean toilets

Been here for drinks before several times and always had fun, but recently also booked for a work event (bigger group) and it was perfect in every way!! They were super accommodating and flexible with pre-orders. The room upstairs was so amazing, very cozy and pretty, and perfect for a private party. The staff was very friendly, the food was lovely and drinks were cheap. So overall, amazing experience, can highly recommend it for any event!

The veranda at the commercial tavern was the perfect place to host our event. Ellie was an amazing bartender, we loved it.
