My first time visiting this bar with a friend who frequents on occasion. I really had an amazing time. The bar staff are more than friendly but nice guys /girls and competent to match. I was blown away by the band who preformed at 110% making the place electric. Some of the locals didn't seem to appreciate just how lucky they are to have such an amazing bar. I spent time inside as well as outside in the garden that had a real good vibe. The customers were all friendly and spent a lot of my time migling with a few groups during the evening. I'll l definetly be going back Wednesday for more of the same. There's music Wed, Thurs and Sat coming up so gonna make my week of entertainment I think. It's been a long time since Brixton was on my night out agenda but its certainly going to be again. Thanks guys for an amazing evening.

Came for the Sunday Jazz night. Was thoroughly enjoying the music and noticed this elderly lady sitting in the corner, sipping a pint, head weaving to the music. Thought to myself ‘oh how cute.’ 5 minutes later she stood up, busted out a trumpet from god knows where and led the band through a frenetic solo that electrified the room (see video). So is Effra Hall a unique place to see some jazz? Yeah I’d say so.

One of the best bars we happened to stumble upon during our time in Brixton. The staff here are friendly and the clientele that comes in are welcoming as well. Nice selection of beers will keep you here

Great service. Lovely Guinness. Fantastic outside area. A lovely little oasis (a lower hipster count) in Brixton. Still loving this place.

Good pub, some great music. Pity they didn't do any proper beer. It was all that fizz pop stuff. I am told some of it is 'craft beer' ok so why not craft a proper pulled pint? I made do with a respectable Guinness.

Decent local boozer. Round here still searching for that perfect neighbourhood pint hole - everything either too full of yummy mums and hooray cardigan dads or soulessly chainy or both. Lighting is a bit bright in here which is a bad start - sounds picky but boozers just shouldn’t be anything like dentists. Shoot me. Live music is a fun option and the beer selection is decent - Brooklyn, madri and usual suspects. The search goes on…

What a great find! Looking for a few drinks after a meal in Brixton and checked out this place to find it bursting with music from a live band - we stayed the rest of the night. Great beer choices and can't wait to go back soon. 🍺

Bar staff were abrasive before we even closed the door. We came from home whilst it was raining, and they said they ‘wouldn’t let us hide from the rain in here’. We were just wanting a drink! To be immediately met with unwelcomeness from a local is disheartening.

We went there for the jazz band and it was definitely worth it. Great environment, crowd, staff work really fast, easy to get drinks. There is also an outside area. They don't serve food, but they do allow you to order online and get it delivered. Please check in advance the days that the band is playing, we were there on a Thursday.

We came to watch the Portugal / Morocco world cup game. There was one guy manning the bar as the pub got progressively busier with minimal standing room let alone free tables. Every single one of us came back from ordering drinks commenting on the guy running the bar on his own, stunned at how good he was taking multiple orders, completely unphased by the increasing business around him. It was genuinely impressive and I can't praise how good he was enough! V strong selection of beers on tap, big screen for football, and a small outdoor area.

Good local pub. Regulars still talk at the bar but there's olenty of space for occasional visitors. Also a small beer garden.

Stumbled upon this great bar while scouring Brixton to see a football match. While walking through housing estate we found Effra Hall. Guy working in bar couldn't have be nicer or more helpful great pint and big screens. Highly recommend

Great little pub in Brixton with live jazz music. The food is pretty good and the drinks are reasonably priced. We had two mains and two pints of cider and it all came to about £30. I'd recommend the Ital curry if you like veggies and you fancy something warming & coconutty.

A wonderful place to meet, chill and catch up with friends. The ambience is warm and welcoming alongside the staff who are exemplary. I didn't sample the food menu.

The bands are mostly great, but the pub is too expensive. The owners treat the staff like slaves and have no respect for the musicians. Lukily the majority of the staff, not the jumped up bar mangers, are welcoming and polite.

I've heard a lot about this place but went for the first time this week, midweek. Despite everything - the midweek time slot, and the lingering effects of the pandemic - they had a live band, and it was buzzing. Not exactly choca block (on a Wednesday), but still lively, with friendly people going to enjoy the live music and have a little jive, maybe.

Great pub, chill staff, jazz Thursdays, nice smoking area, sports on every night, ideal all round.

Went there yesterday with a friend before heading to Brixton Academy to see Jimmy Eat World & to check out if the lofty claims are true; I can safely say that the pub was the best I've been to in South London - bar man was chatty & friendly, beers were reasonably priced (probably the cheapest round of the day), drinks were well kept & the outside space was a mini oasis, place was pretty busy too so it's definitely a popular spot

Was taken here by a friend it's a nice pub. Tucked away from the busy traffic on the high roads. Nice Friendly staff. Inside is nice and spacious could do with more comfortable seating inside. Also the outside area for me seating was very uncomfortable after awhile as it's wooden seats. The Outside area was very nice especially on a hot day but it can get very crowded and people getting way to close as it benches people are bunched up together. It's a smoking area so it does get busy. Jazz nights are great, Latin too. The Live band is great good atmosphere and vibes. You can also watch sports. Will definitely go back again for a drink.

One of the best pubs in Brixton, nestled away in the backstreets just off Brixton Hill. Jerk chicken on the menu is banging and you can see a screen from just about anywhere for all sports.

One of the best, and one of the last remaining proper, pubs in Brixton. Family owned, decent prices, old school horseshoe bar, live jazz, great crowd.

Big fan of this little local pub. Lovely staff, diverse clientele and jazz on Saturday evenings. They also have a big screen for sports events and a selection of board games fo choose from.
