It is a captivating blend of history and nature. The fortress, steeped in rich history and guided by knowledgeable experts, offers an immersive experience for history enthusiasts. What truly sets this site apart are the intriguing underground caves and tunnels, revealing the fort's military secrets. I was enchanted by the cool, dimly lit passageways, which add a mysterious charm to the visit. Surrounded by panoramic views of rolling hills and the serene Maas River, this hidden gem provides a unique and unforgettable journey through time and natural beauty. Highly recommended for a fascinating adventure.

I love my experiences there with the lovely guide called Pauline. It was one of the best tours I have had so far. The tour, the guide, and the weather (on that day, not too hot or too cold) were perfect. I ended up knowing a lot more about the places and definitely will visit again because there are still more places underground that we didn't cover this time. Pauline suggested visiting again during the weekend to explore another area underground. When you buy the ticket, you can choose either the fort or the cave. I recommend you do both. I think they are worth exploring.

Amazing experience (walking in the dark in the caves was the coolest!) We has a great time and our guides were really funny and made sure that we all had a good time! The view from the St. Pieters Fort was picturesque! I would definitely recommend bringing a warm and good quality jacket as it gets pretty chilly in there. It is an experience that you will remember! 👍👍👍

This was a fun and amazing tour! The guide was very interesting and nice too. The cave was so special and I really enjoyed listening to its history and stories. It was so great! Highly recommended.

In the melting sun it was a relief to finally enter the caves which are 11 degrees. I advise to bring a jacket, because after a while the cold will get to you. It was very educational however I would've liked to walk around a bit more in the caves. The guide was very kind to us, definitely should pay a visit if you are in the area.

Amazing tours, we did the fort tour (with George) followed by the North Caves tour (with Jac) Both were incredibly interesting and educational but both guides were also very funny and made it even more enjoyable. Nice to do both tours, as completely different yet linked in some history (particularly enjoyed seeing the explosion site in the caves after hearing the story about it from in the fort. They were extremely responsible in regards to covid-19 restrictions too. Definitely advise anyone considering it to do it, one of the highlights of our whole trip around every country in Europe 😍 Thanks George and Jac!

I have just been to outside of the fort, due yo time I was not able to go, but I still suggest to visit. Around fort, very nice green fields and tracking area.

Only seen the outside of the fort. A great walk to get there, with a rewarding view from the top of the hill at the end. Great place for hiking with lots of green and many paths. An imposing and interesting historic place you must visit, even if you don't want to see it from the inside.

  • 5/5 Tamara R. 1 year ago on Google
Our tour guide was amazing. He gave such interesting, fun and appropriate information about the caves/quarry. The artwork inside was so intriguing as well. So glad we made the trip there.

  • 5/5 Vlad C. 2 years ago on Google
Great place and experience. The fort is pretty impressive, and the guide was very nice and entertaining, offering a lot of interesting information about the fort and its history.

  • 5/5 Colin Wierenga (. 2 years ago on Google
Very cool settlement with a really fun tour. I highly suggest booking for the tour as you get a brisk walk through the innards of the dark building. Going through the narrow hallways and climbing the stairs is a lot of fun. The tour ends with a fantastic view of the city. Definitely go here if you wish to leave the busyness of the city centre. They also have cave tours btw if you want to be even more adventurous.

Beautiful Fort built in a hill area. You can see the whole Maastricht city from here. There are guided tours here if you would like to learn about the history of this place.

  • 5/5 Erik A. 1 year ago on Google
The best tour guide with the nicest shoes ever! :) Professional and knows a lot about the place both over and underground. 5/5. (Will definitely come here again one day)

Awesome tour! Definitely worth a go. It's quite a walk away, but once you've gotten to the top, it's all worth it.

Interestring historical place, with nice view at the city. Huge parking lot and a restaurant next to the fort.

The tour was very interesting and you learn about Maastricht. The views were beautiful from the top but very cold and windy...didn't take a lot of pics because of weather.

One of important historical landmark in Maastricht. It’s situated in the outskirts of the city, but accessible by walking or bus. You can find this 19th century fort, situated on the top of the hill. Don’t worry, it’s just 125 metres from sea level, easy trek to reach the top. Not sure about the entry inside the fort, but you can enjoy amazing view of the Maastricht city from the top of this hill. Possibly there are guided tours to know about the fort, you can go with them to know more. Plenty of parking spaces are available, if you are comfortable with car. Highly recommended.👍

  • 5/5 Steffen B. 4 months ago on Google
Great guided tour, first of the unique Fort St Pieter and then the underground Grotten (limestone quarry in a system of caves and tunnels). Definitely worth a visit. Our Dutch tour guide, Rieki (?) was giving a great and lively walking tour.

  • 5/5 Marek S. 5 months ago on Google
The best of the best, parking down the hill, combined price with cave was very fine and definitely worthy, English speaking guide was excellent, he told us a lot of interesting things from fort history and also about the physics... the tour lasted about 1 hour, the fortress was very interesting from inside and from outside too, especially the well, cannons and city view, it was a very pleasant experience, many thanks to very well educated guide

Die Führung in die unterirdischen Gänge sind super interessant. Da nur wenig Führungen angeboten werden unbedingt vorab reservieren. Die Führung dauert gut 80 Minuten. Achtung: ganzjährig 11 Grad. Warm anziehen.

  • 4/5 D D. 11 months ago on Google

  • 5/5 Andreas R. 8 months ago on Google

  • 5/5 Monica V. 8 months ago on Google
We bought a combo visit of the Fort and the caves. The guides, Marcel and Thom, made it a very interesting and entertaining experience. We enjoyed the tour and also learned a lot of things. It's better to book in advance, so you can get to choose the hours. Also, bring an extra layer for the caves.

  • 4/5 Frank R. 8 months ago on Google

  • 5/5 Emily K. 8 months ago on Google
We loved our experience in the caves and vault. Joe is an amazing tour guide! He is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. He made us feel very safe as we explored the areas of the chalk stone mine. Such a unique experience and a great memory to have from our trip to Europe.

  • 4/5 Timo 2 years ago on Google
Great place for jogging, picnic or having a walk. Great views over the city.

  • 5/5 Pranav R. 10 months ago on Google
Absolute must thing to do in Maastricht. The fort and the caves can be visited through the tours only (I think) and it is better to book in advance just to be sure. The tour would take you inside the fort from ground level to the top and explain the history of it. it was fascinating and last about an hour, the tickets for the tour and cave can be bought together. There is plenty of car parking available here but the best way is by the bike even though it is slight uphill, bike parking is where the restaurant is. Arriva bike is also available here. There is also a mini-golf.

Wim V was a very nice and went above and beyond on our tour. I appreciate the extra time he took to answer our questions and give us additional detail.

  • 5/5 Yin A. 1 year ago on Google
The hike was fine and the location is fairly easy to find. I think it's the highest place in that part of the Netherlands that I've seen.

  • 5/5 Joyce M. 1 year ago on Google
It's a beautiful fort with a parking lot next to it. It is paid but cheap. The guides at the fort and the underground tunnels were super friendly and gave a lot of information about the history of both places and Maastricht. Even if you decide not to take a tour you can visit the fort for free and enjoy a gorgeous view of Maastricht.

  • 5/5 Tim L. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice fort on the hill, and you can attend the guide tour into the cave. This is one of the most interesting tour in Maastricht, the experience in the cave is pretty nice, and also bring a jacket because it is a bit cold in the cave. Besides, there is also several hiking trails behind the fort.

  • 5/5 Aaron R. 1 year ago on Google
Marcel was our tour guide for the English speaking tour of the fort today and he was exceptional! A scholarly man who takes as much pride in his art of story telling as he does in providing the exact facts and making sure everyone in the tour group feels included and is very comfortable. If you can get on a tour with Marcel then you may just have the best tour guide you've ever had! The fort is interesting inside and out, but 100x times moreso for the craft of story telling, conveying immersion and relaying interesting facts about key figures of European history intertwined with the fort. Exceptional! Thanks Marcel!
