A unique museum, as it shelters (below a modern-built cone mimicking the tumulus that covered) the tomb containing a papyrus. There is a nice way to understand the 'historical road' from Callatis to Mangalia. My mother, one of the archaeologists uncovering some items on display, used to be its director till 90's. The lack of funds and marketing is easily perceived...

That's museum are as the ,,cheer leader" which looks good, promise much, had potential and after 10 years you'll see as cheep waitress. Interesting but too small for such big history! Should see the only one tomb where was discovered a papyrus in Romania!

The museum is amazing. There are very nice artifacts especially in the underground room and there are many of them that were influenced by the Greek history. The personnel was friendly and always willing to help and also the souvenirs were quite different from everything else at the seaside.

Most artifacts lack the full story. Coins are labeled bronze greek, bronze roman, no denomination mentioned, no story about what you could buy with a as or denari, where they were found, what message they carried on them etc. The tumular tomb with papyrus looks pretty sketchy, like some amateurs dug it up and forgot to put together the broken frescoes, statues and columns that lay around it. History museums are supposed to tell a story, bring back to life ancient people, not just display some clay amphoras and bronze objects...

One of the most interesting museums in the area. A reminder of a great ancient civilisation , also a homage for archeologists and historians and their efforts to unearth, preserve and promote a piece of local heritage.

It is a small museum with all kinds of artifacts collected in the area of the old polis Callatis. The ticket price is very small, 5 ron for adults and 2.5 ron for children, if I remember correctly. You don't get a guide and the text descriptions around the museum are very short. But it is not like they have a lot to describe. All you can see there is basically small statuete, carvings, pot pieces and small tool parts. Now, this is not a negative review. I really enjoyed the place. I also like the souvenirs available. The place is also one of the very few touristic attractions you can visit in Mangalia. So if you are spending your time in Mangalia it is worth to spend some time in this museum.

It is ok, not big building. Lots of similar collections, not much new even though there is no papyrus to display, just pictures. However you still feel you are kind of walking into the history of civilisation there.

Great museum with an amazing display of historical elements that show the strong connection between this city and the roman civilization. Low price also with a discount for students and for the elderly.
