This place is a hidden gem. FOOD: • Chicken Ragoon curry: for the first time in my life I ever fell in love with a curry. It's very flavorful yet not too spicy. Creamy, rich, and tasty. • Village Fish Curry: this one is more spicy but they did very well handling the fishy smell in this dish. 10/10 • Oh No Khowsuey: This is my most favorite on the table. The portion is huge. Very creamy and nutty, comes with a bunch of crunchy or crispy toppings to balance out the flavor. • Tea leaf salad: not recommend, it tastes weird DRINKS: I was shocked with the huge selection of tea they have. Don't know much about tea so their White Peony Tea taste ok, quite bland and lack of fragance. SERVICE: the waiter was super nice and professional, he's very patient explained to me everything. VIBE: It's in a weird location in the corner of the mall & you have to get inside the mall to access the restaurant. It's very quiet there're barely anyone comes to eat.

This was my first time trying Burmese cuisine and Popa did not disappoint! We tried the tea leaf salad, vegetarian khowsuey, Rangoon chicken curry and Burmese fried rice - all of them were really different tasting but equally flavourful. My favourites were the tea leaf salad and the Rangoon chicken curry. Even the white coconut rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy. The service was also really friendly and attentive - our server was really helpful and patient with explaining the menu and making recommendations. The ambience and decor were also really nice - it's a good place to sit down and eat or to take guests while still casual. Will definitely come back!

Was excited to visit the restaurant as it is known for its fine dining experience. Food was good ... but the appetizer was just as normal as an Indian based stuffed potato fillings samosa... whereas this was in a spring roll shaped. The chicken stir fried Burmese style was good and also the Burmese fried vegetable rice was good too. The ambience was really good... but one lack of attention upseted our mood to the fullest. With not much tables to be served, the staff at the restaurant had not paid attention to the crockery in which they were serving their guests. We were served in a chipped bowl, which isn't a great sign of authenticity on the restaurant's part and leaves a bad impression towards the restaurant. This needs to be taken care of .... We did notify the same to the server and he casually just said that we know about it and we just got a Casual Sorry. (If they knew about it then why serve in such crockery only??!) Lastly, I would just mention that the restaurant shall take care and check in their kitchen fr the crockery etc. And keep up to their restaurant's standards!! For which it's known in particular.

It was our first time visiting Burmese restaurant. Great service and delicious food. They have variety of tea selections and great presentation. Had garlic noodles with chicken and it came with really big portion. The unicorn tea was pretty surprising and fun to enjoy.

I love Burmese food - grew up eating authentic Burmese food made by my dad and aunts. Service was fine. Food was bland and seasoning didn't hit the spot. Felt like it was more fusion since it's westernized. The food didn't taste bad, but I unfortunately would not say it's authentic.

My family and I enjoyed our lunch at PŌPA today. We ordered a variety of dishes that came highly recommended by our waiter. The dishes that we enjoyed the most were the Sexy Fish Croquette, Platha with Chicken Coconut Curry Sauce and Rangoon Chicken Curry. The platha is extremely flaky and dare I say one of the best rotis that I have had in the GTA. The khowsuey is very different from what can be found at places such as Sukhothai or Pai. Although it tastes good and is plated nicely, it lacks the complex flavours captured by the spots mentioned above. Also, it would be nice if the restaurant offered creative non-alcoholic beverages especially since halal meats are served. Overall, this was a great lunch consisting of well plated dishes that have very unique flavour profiles. We would definitely try Burmese food again.

Wonderful customer service here… haven’t been in a restaurant in a long time where they fill my water cup instantly when it was empty. I LOVED the rangoon curry with rice, would definitely come back for it. The rice smells amazing and was so flavourful. Unfortunately, the satay meat dish was too salty and the paprika (?) was a strange flavour for me as a sprinkled topping. I didn’t like how it was also tossed with the cabbage on both the satay meat and calamari dish, the flavours didn’t work for me. The calamari was a little bland, and came with sweet and sour sauce. Maybe these are just new restaurant kinks that will be ironed out. Looking forward to returning and trying other dishes.

What a delightful find! This Indian/Chinese restaurant exceeded our expectations in every way. The Shrimp and Curry Chicken we ordered were absolutely scrumptious. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm, creating the perfect ambiance for a memorable evening. One of the standout features of this restaurant is its affordable prices. Despite the incredible quality of the food and the cozy setting, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. It's refreshing to find a place that offers such delicious cuisine without breaking the bank. To top it all off, the service was friendly and attentive. The staff made us feel welcomed and ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. If you're looking for a cozy haven of deliciousness that won't drain your wallet, this Indian/Chinese restaurant is the place to go. We highly recommend it for a fantastic dining experience that satisfies both your taste buds and your budget!

The food tastes delicious I ordered the Basil & Chili Lamb and Burmese fried rice. I love the lamb, it doesn't smell anything, the meat is so tender and juicy and tastes so good, spicy, salty, and a bit sweet. The fried rice, for me, tastes a bit bland but when you eat it together with the lamb it makes a perfect combination. The service and ambiance are also very good. The server knows about the food very well and can give you a recommendation when you don’t know what to order.

I went here for lunch with my friends over the weekend, as we wanted to try Burmese cuisine for the first time. We all shared the Salt & Pepper Calamari, the Lamb Leg Baos, the Hot & Spicy Sambal Chicken, and the Shrimp Kebat. The food was fresh and flavourful, with the calamari and shrimp being the star of the show. This is particularly impressive as I am not a huge fan of squid, but the texture of the calamari was absolutely amazing. A definite recommend from me!

Excellent food with good portion sizes. Very pleasant setting in the patio tent at the back of the mall. Great flavours. The otherwise excellent waiter snuck an extra ‘house beer’ on the bill. I noted it. It was not an accident as we didn’t order any ‘house beer’. COVID has been cruel. Businesses have suffered. Maybe that’s the reason. I will let it slide this time. Two less stars for that move. But I will return and still support them anyway.

We came here for Summerlicious. The food we got was all delicious. They also have an extensive assortment of teas available. The only issue was that the rice that came with the lamb curry was cold but the staff quickly replaced it for us. The various dishes were well seasoned and flavourful. I would be interested in coming back to try their regular menu.

Had dinner with colleagues last night. The restaurant is in the mall , google/Apple Maps can be a bit confusing. The wait staff recommended a few dishes, and we shared all plates. I have a nut allergy and they were very accommodating. I don’t think the shrimp appetizer was good , but the the calamari and baos were great! The tea leaf rice was good , but I wish there was a bit more flavour ?? The curries were great though , I really enjoyed those.

Came here for lunch and service was really good. Food was overall very salty and spicy. We ordered the chilly tangy chickpea tofu. This was surprsingly tasty with its sweet spicy and tangy sauce. But again it's still salty. Fir main we ordered Khowsuey noodle with chicken. The noodles were all very short strands making it hard to pick up. It seems like they gave all the leftover broken up noodles for this dish. We also ordered the shrimp kebat. That was very salty...didnt taste much other than salt.

I ordered the Tea Leaf Salad and Mango Pickled Lamb Curry. The salad was very fresh and tasty, quite a pleasant blend of fresh herbs with a touch of peanuts. The mango curry was also delicious. The lamb cuts were soft, well cooked and well seasoned. Curry was balanced and flavourful with a touch of heat. The flavours aren't bold and will not overtake your palate. Would definitely recommend!

Burmese food is pretty rare in Toronto so I was excited to try this place out. The food didn’t wow me in anyway, though it is pretty competent. Burmese food is similar to Thai and this place has a bit of fusion going on so it’s interesting.

We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon! The food items on the summerlicious menu were good. The baos were fantastic. The dessert was very dry. It was the semolina cake. We were a large group and even though the restaurant was empty, the service wasn’t the best. The curry was very mild. The Hakka noodles lacked salt and we had to add it ourselves. The ambience is good. It was a good experience over all.

This was my first time trying Burmese Food. I really enjoyed the Katsu Chicken Bao and Pasteis de Nata. The bao bun was soft and fresh which was a nice contrast to the crispy chicken. The pasteis was warm right from the oven. We also enjoyed the Rangoon chicken and Mohinga. I would definitely come back to try more dishes.

This is my first time trying this restaurant and it was a great experience. Food came out quick, portions are huge for the price point, and the flavors are absolutely amazing. Coming from someone who cannot handle their spice, their curries have a good amount of heat without being too overpowering - overall, amazing flavors.

Honestly, food just looks good than it tastes. I was excited to try Burmese cuisine for the first time, but I was disappointed by the food The menu had a variety of dishes, such as curries, salads, rice and noodles but most of them lacked flavor and freshness. I would not recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Burmese cuisine. Overall a little overpriced for the portions. Giving 2 points for their ambience and staff.

The curry chicken was full of flavor and not too spicy. The jasmine rice was fragrant with a strong coconut aroma. The Pat Thai was perfectly balanced and had an amazing flavor. The beef was very fresh and the portion size was very generous. The service was fantastic and the decor was beautiful with relaxing music.

The Burmese restaurants you should absolutely visit! Vegan approved 👍 Their food is delicious and the service matches up really well. If you haven't been to a Burmese restaurant before, please try their Tea Leaf Salad. And right now (September 2021) Pōpa is part of the Dine TO campaign so they have this salad and main as part of a $20 promo. We ordered their Falafel, which comes with a Manchurian sauce. Their vegetable noodles take you back to the streets of India where you get the same taste, but of course Pōpa make it super healthy. We also ordered the tofu and eggplant curry and the Malay curry, which were all very tasty. Their presentation is really inviting and soon you would have over eaten.

Tasty and beautifully presented Burmese food. Some especially notable dishes were the tea leaf salad and satay platter. The skewers on the satay platter were cooked to perfection, and the peanut sauce was a nice compliment to it. The tea leaf salad is unlike any other salad I’ve had. It is dressed with a bunch of spices. I was not too impressed by the mohinga, the broth/soup didn’t have a particular flavour that stood out.

This place is decorated well with excellent food and service. We order Shan chickpea tofu for appetizer, steak kebat and curry lamb. If you like spicy, definitely try the steak kebat. The amount of heat and spice make the beef so tasty. The waitress are so nice and professional. Not only she recommended good dishes and the level of service is like being at a high class restaurant. Definitely worth to come visit

Quantity is not worth the cost of each dish. The complimentary rice comes in a heavy bowl but the dish if shared by two requires additional order of rice. Calamari was great. Loved it. Falafel was dry. The sauce on falafel was great. Khoi soi had great flavour but the quantity would feed only an infant. Skip the village fish curry if possible coz the tomatoes used in the gravy give a canned smell and texture. The fish in the curry had no flavour either. The ambience of the place was good. Servers and host were kind and considerate. If someone likes Burmese food know this is no where close to Burma.

First time trying Burmese food and we enjoyed it very much! Chicken and beef were halal, not to mention the taste and presentation was great. The Khaowsuey was definitely the highlight of our order. The only thing I would recommend is adding the rice with the Rangoon curry instead of us having to order it separately. Now a days a lot of places that offer curry include rice with it since it's not really something you can enjoy without a bit of rice (imo) The place was inside Bayview village and had a very nice interior. They close from 4-5pm (probably in preparation for dinner?) But the atmosphere was great. It looked very aesthetic. The staff was great too. They didn't rush us at all and gave us recommendations when asked. Though they did ask us how we wanted to split the bill as soon as they took our order. Not a negative point but definitely a first since we usually get asked when it is time to pay. All in all it was great food and would definitely come again when in the area! The pricing seemed reasonable too!

Tried out this restaurant for Winterlicious! Overall I would say the food is fine. Not amazing but not bad! The server we had so so sweet. One of our items ended up not coming out but he was very quick to rectify the situation on our bill. I had the Steak Kebat. Our server said that it was EXTREMELY spicey. I found it to be mild at best and my partner who can’t really handle spice at all also found it mild. If you can handle spice it is definitely not spicey. Overall would I come back here? Probably not. But it was definitely nice to try for the first time!

Winterlicious 2024. Overall, I was a little disappointed with my experience. The service was fine, but I felt the portions and flavours were a bit lacking. I got the Steamed Lamb Leg Bao to start. I thought the lamb itself was tasty, but the ratio of filling to bao was off. Namely, there was not enough filling in relation to the size of the bao. Since the bao relies on the sauce and filling for flavour, it fell short and ended up tasting a bit dry/bland. For the main, I got the Chicken Khowsuey, and this was probably the best of the three dishes. It came with ~7 different toppings, and I appreciated the small trays they were placed in, so you could add/omit the toppings as you’d like. I felt this dish was the standout in terms of the flavours and textures. That being said, the chicken was quite dry and the portion size was too small for a main. The dessert was the most underwhelming of the three courses. I got the Chai Tea Cheesecake, and I could not make out any Chai flavour whatsoever — it tasted like a regular cheesecake. Moreover, the slice was tiny and it was made on top of the thinnest layer of cake “crust”, which ended up tasting soggy. A different choice of crust (i.e., graham cracker crust) could have elevated the cake. For something that costs $8 on their normal menu, I would advise against ordering this. All in all, I am curious about their other dishes, but I likely won’t return anytime soon. For the price, I expected a bit more in terms of flavour and portion, and I was underwhelmed.

This is my second visit. My kids love the food as its to their liking and taste. Platha with coconut chicken curry was the star among my kids. Rangoon spring rolls were mostly potato based. China town noodles were a little greasy but okay for the kids. The noodles potion was good for four of us after devouring on starters. Lastly, the Macau egg tart was great to finish off the dinner. We are strongly recommend and encourage eating healthy and eating to enjoy. We don’t order more food ending up wasting or carrying it home for next meal.

I had a curry lemongrass vegetable. It had a lovely flavour and not salty. I ordered a Platha but didn’t know it comes fried (thought it was like a naan), so didn’t care for it. The staff is friendly but not helpful in menu selection. It’s not fast nor inexpensive. I have the impression most menu items are fried.

This is was my first time trying Burmese food, and I'm not sure how authentic this place was, but I personally felt the food was underwhelming. I wish the chicken curry was more flavorful, and I was surprised that the rice/noodle sides were cold. The semolina cake was alright, it was a bit dense. However, the tea salad and the calamari was good.

Glad to finally find a Burmese restaurant in GTA. This place is inside Bayview Mall. I love Burmese Platha with coconut chicken curry combo and this place didn’t disappoint me. We ordered extra platha to share. Apart of that tried bunch of other dishes such as Lamb Bao, Rangoon curry, kousheuy. Please be advised when it comes to their curry based dishes they more or less tend to taste from a similar palette. Thus, recommended to mix and match. We will come back for their Platha.

I found this restaurant on Google Maps. The prices seemed reasonable, and I’ve never had Burmese food before, so I decided to try it out – and boy was it a great decision! The restaurant was a bit darker than what I would have liked, which contrasted with the bright mall interior, but the service was very welcoming and efficient from the start. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there was a three-course prix fixe dinner for just $33 per person, but we only had an hour so we decided to order from the regular menu. A note here – upon hearing that we had limited time, the manager shared the information with the waitress, who ensured that we were well taken care of in that short amount of time. Fantastic attention to customers! We tried the khow suey noodles and the mango pickled lamb curry, along with a bowl of coconut rice. The two mains tasted amazing! I loved the coconut flavour of the noodle curry and the way it was presented with little bowls of additional things you could add to the curry, altogether on a wooden tray. The mango lamb curry was mild, and I personally really liked how it was not as tangy as typical Indian or Thai curry. When dining out, I typically place high importance on the portion relative to the cost and I was happy with the portions of not just the mains, but also the rice (plus, the coconut rice was presented with thought and tasted better than regular steamed rice). The food was brought to us in a short amount of time after we ordered and the waitress came frequently during the short meal to check on us, add water or bring things as needed. After the meal, the waitress (or manager, I forgot who it was) remarked that we had a rushed meal due to time limits and hoped that we come back. I definitely will!!

We have no visited this restaurant for a long period of time. The Burmese style is pretty unique. The Tea Leaf salad is refreshing with some chewy nuts. The Egg plant Bao has special flavour sauce and is quite tasty. The Dynamite Shrimp is another understanding dish.

Popa Burmese Restaurant Bayview Village provided an enjoyable and delectable dining experience! The food was freshly prepared and the presentation was with care. I tried a couple dishes and can truly say that the quality did not disappoint. Along with the food being of high quality, the service staff were extremely well mannered and catered to the needs of the patrons. From the starters, the main courses, to dessert/coffee or tea... this restaurant prides itself on providing exceptionally tasting dishes, polite staff and an relaxing ambience to which one can enjoy an afternoon or evening of fine cuisine. Five stars!!

Great food and great service! We went as part of the summerlicious event, and service was fast and attentive. I would definitely recommend the Shaan tofu appetizer, it was perfectly cooked to be soft on the inside and firm on the outside. The egg tart was delicious too. There is a very impressive selection of teas that I would also recommend checking out.

Have you guys ever tried Burmese cuisine 缅甸菜 before? This stylish eatery, POPA Burmese Kitchen inside Bayview Village Mall, offers traditional Burmese flavours fused with Indian & Chinese influences! There are plenty of vegan and gluten-free options on the menu. Recommendations: Pyay Platha • Coconut chicken curry with a housemade buttery layered flatbread called platha • The curry was hella addictive lol Shan Tofu aka Burmese Polanta • SO GOOD, my favourite item on the menu • It comes with a tamarind ginger dressing on the side Satay Lilit Bali aka Satay Skewers • 2 beef or 2 chicken satays (or one of each) with peanut dipping sauce • the beef skewers I ordered were so juicy, tender and flavourful Organic Mohinga • This hot and spicy noodle dish is made with red snapper, sautéed lemongrass and a pea broth • Served with coriander, boiled egg, homemade pea fritters, and gourd kyaw Rangoon Chicken Curry • Burmese chicken curry served with jasmine rice • though it says mild spicy, it was not spicy at all, which I'm thankful for very tasty dish! Really wish to try their Macau Egg Tart for dessert but they were always SOLD OUT, and now they are out of stock :( 5 stars when they get the Macau Egg Tarts back!

Yum, yum, YUM. Rangoon Samuza and platha were good and the coconut curry sauce that comes with the platha was outstanding! Nan Gyi Thoke, mango pickled lamb curry and Malay-style vegetable curry were great. Shrimp Kebat was good but not for everyone as it was spicy. The only dish that did not live to our expectations is the coconut jasmine rice as it had NO coconut flavor! Service was also very good - Manan, thanks for the great service :) It did take a while to get seated as someone came to us after waiting for 3 minutes and informed us that someone else will get to us shortly. That shortly was 10min later (and yes, we had reservations), so we just stood at the entrance for a total of 15min while everyone walked around, until we finally called someone over and said we have been waiting for a long time and we do have a reservation. Re-covid, seems they are following protocols very well and we felt safe to dine there. This is a place we will definitely be back to, just hopefully not wait that long next time :)

Long story short: slow service, bad containers for left overs, uncooked bread, and unseasoned food. We were here after reading reviews and also because this is the only burmese restaurant in GTA. The tea leaf salad was not seasoned well and it wasn't tangy enough. They used lettuce when in fact most burmese places use green shredded cabbage. You could taste the oil and they seemed to have used Olive oil which overpowers the flavors. Finally it was bland and tasteless. Here comes the poor service - we asked for salt and it came 10 min later. They're understaffed - so your requests will be slow. What else was disappointing is the fact that they charge $7 for plain rice. I've always eaten tea leaf salad with rice which is how my Burmese friend said that's how they do it in Burma but for a small bowl of rice, that's a ridiculous price. Next the platha or the thousand layer bread was under cooked. So that was disappointing too. The saving Grace was the chicken curry which had decent flavor. The worst are their take home containers that don't close. So, by the time we got home, our food leaked out and the paper bag got drenched. It was a mess all around. Please invest in better containers. This is not how my burmese friend cooked for me nor did Burma Superstar in San Francisco or Rangoon in Philadelphia. Burmese food when made well is one of the most flavorful food in the world and I'm disappointed that they couldn't bring this to us.

There are two dipping sauces are the same one, and all the curry taste the same. But is not bad, but really boring, based on the review, we had really high expectations, but really disappointed now
