The most friendly staff ever... combined with crazy good cocktails and delicious food. My friends and I looked for a quick drinks last Saturday night and after we checked few places with at least 45 minutes waiting list (ridiculous), I decided to bring them to the Lucy, simple like that... just to mention that I haven't been, but always wanted to. So the staff was yep pop in and order... so one hour later before the kitchen get close, we are with some delicious food and more drinks as not expected! Thanks to the great staff and definitely we will see you again!

Fantastic atmosphere, was rather busy on Monday night. The service was really good and staff friendly, chatty and attentive. Each dish was time perfectly. All the dishes tasted great. For the mock-tails, I think they need to relax on the ice cubes. More drink than ice please. Apart from that, what a great place to dine.

Outstanding! I recently went to Chin Chin’s and in my opinion, the service and food is way better here. Without the long wait. Richard, our waiter was especially good and kept us fed, watered and entertained all night. The other staff were very friendly and service oriented too. I can’t fault the staff at all. The food was divine and I even love the tap beer! Make it your regular.

Venue is incredible, good tunes, always buzzing, really fun atmosphere. Best kingfish sashimi in town! All the dishes were amazing, could have kept eating all night long!

If you’re looking for a buzzing atmosphere and fun dishes to share, this is a great choice. The service was amazing, our server made multiple dishes vegan and gluten free for us! Cocktails were super delicious and unique as well. The only issue I have is the music was a bit too loud for me, but that’s just personal opinion. Overall, a really great experience!

Food was sensational & dishes were quite generous. It was, however, far too dark and difficult to see the menu and the food. We also didn't realise there'd be a "Sunday surcharge" of $20! Overall we'd dine here again!

Great cheerful space, funky music in the background. The cauliflower dish was by far my favourite. Had the Let Lucy Choose 7 dishes. Was very filling. Overall, it was a very nice experience.

It’s such a lively atmosphere, the food is incredible and the interior is amazing. There was amazing about the service provided but I think that was the aim, letting us enjoy the night. As it’s very much a place you bring friends to for a fun night out. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Melbourne. The cauliflower, Dahl, beef short rib rendang, roti and chicken bun are MUST ORDERS. Perfect place for a dinner date or girls night. Drinks were good too.

I had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic Asian fusion restaurant, and I can't say enough good things about my experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly smile by the attentive waitstaff. Their professionalism and dedication to making my dining experience enjoyable was truly exceptional. The true stars of the evening, however, were the chefs. Their culinary artistry was evident in every dish we ordered. The combination of Asian flavours with innovative twists was a delightful experience for our taste buds. The presentation of each dish was a work of art, and the flavours were a harmonious blend of diverse Asian cuisines. Thank you for having us and will definitely have to come back :)

An amazing restaurant with amazing flavours and great service. Typical Melbourne laneway entry into a brilliantly designed space with open kitchen. We were greeted with a smile and the service continued at a high level especially under Covid restraints. The best option is to share and the sizes are surprisingly large. I won’t go through each dish, the pictures say it all however you must save room for the banana fritters. They are not the classic old school Chinese restaurant version but an awesome version with a twist. A must visit.

Stunning 😍 9/10 Wait staff attentive to the T, I trusted his advise and he did not lead me astray. Went the 7 course banquet option, and were satisfied by the end however couldn’t resist going another serve of Oysters 🦪 Loved the Soft shell crab 🦀 a MUST try! Great atmosphere, quick service and great food. Cocktail selection was a premium.. will be back.

Great restaurant and quintessential Melbourne, where you enter through an alleyway and are transported a whole world away with an absolute assault of flavours and textures. Easy to see why this place is so popular and always busy! Cocktails were ok and the service was a little slow, but it was a busy night so can understand.

What a great find, I like this place even better than Chin Chin. Simple delicious food and the drinks were great too especially the mixed drinks, I mean cocktails! We didn't have booking, so it was a bit of a confusing start... But we managed to jump in for 50 mins on a table and that was divine. Staff were friendly and helpful. Thank you guys!

Sensational cocktails, very fast & friendly service, small portions but most of the dishes were very nice. Roti was very greasy I'm sorry to say but overall a pleasant enough dining experience.

I had high hopes for this place and couldn’t wait to finally go but I got slightly disappointed. When we got shown our table, we were sitting in the middle of the room around 30cm away from our neighbour table. The table on the other side was 50cm away so that the wait staff could squeeze through. I actually crossed ‘date’ as an occasion when making the booking but there was nothing special or anything different to all other tables. The waiter introduce himself and said he will be looking after us this evening. Throughout our dinner, 3 more staff introduced themselves and said they will be our waiter for tonight… I could hear every single word our 2 neighbours were saying, hard to have a conversation or talk. Our Appetizers got served after the main dishes and the food itself was ok. Nothing too special in my opinion, considering the prices for the dishes. But as many people said before, a good place to share dishes and have a few drinks. Not a place I’d come back regularly though.

Loved the whole experience, from the entry off an alley way with the red neon lighting. To the friendly greeting and ability to get a drink while waiting for a table. Holly (our star of the night) was a great help as well in making good menu choice's. Then of course there was the devine food. Seriously good.

We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and now we know why it is a few weeks wait booking for Saturday night. Clever fusion Asian dishes done really well in relaxed restaurant environment. The table service is also on point for a busy place. We loved every dish we had and we are looking forward to going back.

Really loved the flavour profile of these dishes. There was so much depth, especially in the kingfish sashimi, soft shell crab and green papaya salad. Staff were also very friendly and made great cocktail suggestions. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and everything was very reasonably priced. I would recommend getting a selection of multiple entrees and smaller dishes. Would definitely go back and recommend others to try!!

Loved this place so much! The kingfish was sooo good, best i've ever had, the coconut cream went so well with it. The chicken ribs were also super flavourful and cooked well. The jianbang pancakes were good too , I usually don't like too many greens but it went so well !! The pork hock was good, but not amazing as the other dishes, the apple kimchi was interesting though! The duck was super yumm! Service was nice, all staff friendly Note: entrance is actually in the alley, not main road

Was looking for a quick place to eat on Sunday and luckily a friend suggested this place. It a cool layout that you enter via the lane and we got seated at the bar which in my opinion they are the best seats in the house. We got to watch the chefs prepare all the amazing dishes causing us to order more than what any two humans can eat but we got to taste the beautiful flavours of all the dishes. Highly recommended, but also recommended with bigger group if you want to try more items. The have 2 set menus, a 5 and a 7 plate which I will probably be trying next time.

Was seated in a cute little nook with my friends and the waiting staff often checks in with us to make sure we are looked after. Tried the 7 course tasting menu and all the dishes were amazing. My favourite was the baked cauliflower and the king prawns.

  • 3/5 Kenny T. 2 months ago on Google • 145 reviews New
The food wasn’t great and left underwhelmed. The fish we ordered was overcooked and the skin wasn’t scaled properly. The vegetables were soaked in heavy soy which made them quite salty. The duck had a nice marinade on the skin, but that was about it. Quite dry and again overcooked. The fusion between Peking duck with san choy bao just didn’t work for me. I would of preferred a crispy skin and a lighter sauce (maybe with sliced ginger). The service was good, waitstaff were friendly and efficient. This place made me think of Chin Chin, but without the flavours and execution in the food.

Absolutely nothing to fault after dining at Lucy Liu! We arrived just after 9pm on a week night, and left just before 11pm, never feeling any pressure to rush or get out. Each server we encountered was attentive and super accommodating, making us feel like there was something on the menu for literally everyone. The standout dishes were the Tempura prawn betel leaf, Spiced cauliflower and Beef wontons. Each dish and drink we tried, was exceptional and of generous size. Although it is not a huge space, no tables appeared to be squished together, giving each patron comfortable breathing room. I can not wait to dine here again.

The food in this restaurant is unfairly great! I ate more than I should have, and none of their food disappointed me! Also, great staff. Seats in front of the kitchen give you a very good insight on the great orchestra the chef runs! Will be back for more very soon.

What an incredible evening! We chose the "Let Lucy Choose" 7 plate experience and it did not disappoint! Amazing food, incredible service, awesome wine suggestion by the friendliest sommelier (Thank you!). They easily accommodated our gluten free (celiac) requirement with no impact on the experience! The setting is beautifully done, great atmosphere! Thank you for a wonderful evening!

While I’ve reviewed Lucy Liu before, I went back again after 6+ months and still felt like it deserved a review for maintaining its impeccable quality, taste and experience. The good: the food is interesting and varied. Food came quickly. The ok: service was middling. Hard to get attention. Prices were quite high for what the dishes were. The bad: nothing. Hence 4 stars! I would come back. Definitely come in a group to try more stuff

Good authentic Asian flavors and a good fusion and mix of flavors. A lot of food that I couldn’t finish the last few dishes (went for a 5 course taster). The service was good but also felt quite rushed and stressful (especially being sat on a stool right next to where the food was coming from...I felt like part of kitchen!)

A great recommendation by a family friend. We were delighted by a well presented meal. It was a rather busy Wednesday night but we were kindly seated for one and a half hours. Service was quick and efficient. Flavours and textures were unbelievable. I would recommend to anyone.

This is my second visit to LL and I’m still blown away by the food, the service and the atmosphere of this place. We were seated by the bar and the chef and cooks were friendly enough to chat and explain/recommend a few things which was great. The cocktails and drink selection was also good, albeit on the pricey side. We loved the Korean wrap and beef rendang. Already planning on coming back to try other dishes on the menu. We didn’t have to book for 2 however I would highly recommend one if you’re going to be with a group as it can be very busy.

(Translated by Google) Another place that in various sources claims to be the top 10 in Melbourne among restaurants. Lucy Liu Restaurant: I think she deserves restaurants in her honor. A very trendy place, no reservation in the evening. A lot of people, quite crowded and noisy, but this is the thrill. Asian menu: China and Asian seafood variations. The service is fast and attentive. Facility website: By the end of the meal: Oysters (tried in two different sauces) 100 points. Beer: kung fu lager - ok, but not great Yellow Tuna - either I ate something wrong, or just euphoria from the city: tuna meat is so tender that it just melts in my mouth ... I don’t remember where such fish meat is ... And we still enjoy yume .. ...

I had heard so much about Lucy Liu that my brother and I decided to try it. The ambience of the place is fantastic and very hip. But I'm not one for the mood of places it's all in the food. From the time we were served our first dish which was the Siu Mai, everything we sampled kept getting better and was a taste explosion. We sampled most of the things on the menu and we were left stunned by the flavours. You know food is good that even when you are getting full you enjoy every single bite and experience. This has to be one of the best eating experiences of my life.

The place itself is beautiful, and it’s location makes it even more intriguing! Customer service was exceptional, we were being attended to on a very regular basis despite the fact that the restaurant was actually full. The food was super delicious. I would 100% come back to eat there! Lastly the waitress Betty, was a pleasure to be attended by. She really ensured we were getting the best food, her recommendations were perfect and she had a fun, friendly but still professional attitude. She is an asset to your team!

68pp 7 plates menu - I would mayyybe return but would probably pick my own dishes rather than going with the feed me option. Dishes included in the course in the order of preference were: Tempura prawn and eggplant - very yum and sweet garlic oyster sauce goes well with it. Phat kaphrao Kai - was good might be slightly spicy for some people. Salt and pepper chicken ribs - yum! Green apple coleslaw - meant to be a side dish but was refreshing and believe it or not I enjoyed this more than the pork Dumplings - were good but I didn’t like the mayo drizzled all over it on top of chilli oil. Would’ve been so much better with just the chilli oil on its own. Fish was good / ok Beef tartare - ok, wasn’t a big fan of the flavour not sure if it’s the seasoning or the freshness of the beef. Pork - there was no flavour so the pork tasted too fatty thought that’s how it’s meant to be.

  • 4/5 Hyokyung M. 4 years ago on Google
We did a tasting menu- 5 course meal (prawn crackers with beef larb, som tom salad, dumplings, barramundi & steamed pork) and to our surprise the portions were rather disappointing to start with but we were quite filling at the end with a bit of pork and barramundi served with steamed rice. The tables were put too close and there was not enough space for waiters/waitresses to move around with their plates. I think the rating is a bit exaggerated than it should be. I would go there with friends or colleagues for a drink or two but not for a date or an occassion.

Visited for lunch last weekend. Overall the food was quite good, the one acceptation were the dumplings, terrible. Over processed protein fillings were hard and dry and the cases were heavy and gluey, sauce was minimal. A shame as it really is the heart of the menu. New Shanghai in Chadstone do incredible prawn dumplings in chilli oil and peanut sesame, Lucy Liu's just don't stack up against them. Cocktails were great.

I visited Lucy Lui at the weekend and for a Saturday lunch time it had a great atmosphere, not too busy but certainly not quiet. The staff were super friendly and helped us with the menu. The food was colourful and fresh and the portions are generous - great for sharing. I would definitely recommend the ham hock out of the large dishes! Made a booking and cancelled it on the morning of the evening meal. Was told I would be charged $10 a head cancellation fee. Zoe said this would come out automatically when the booking was cancelled. I had not been warned of this. She disputed this and said “why do you think we took your credit card details “. The manager of bookings, Zoe, was very rude and the whole booking experience was very stressful.

(Translated by Google) The flavor of the combination of things is quite unique and delicious Shaved buns, lamb shoulders, and an eggplant wrapped in tempura are all popular. Fried chicken is a bit expensive, so don't order it. The atmosphere in the store is also quite good, the price is slightly higher, but it is still worth a try, it is strongly recommended to make an appointment online.

What a great Asian food restaurant. It’s an upscale but laid back setting with great tables for larger groups. Wait staff were fantastic and very knowledgeable. We order a range of food ourselves but the feed me is also great as I have done it previously. Highlights for us were the eggplant, pork hock and cauliflower.

A fun and bustling vibe, contemporary Asian food and a good time, that's Lucy Liu for you. Loved the Steamed Cod with Stir-fried Morning Glory, the cod was cooked perfectly and the sesame oil really enhances the flavour. The Nam Khao Tod was a textural delight - crispy rice paired with smoked trout, and a depth of flavour that really tickles the taste bud. A great place for a fun meal.

Sophisticated bar dining venue With all the trimmings of a elegant up market dining experience. For the uninitiated just turn over your placemat and ‘that’ is your menu. If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat or a large banquet you’ve come to the right place. Why not try the Soft shell crab Jianbing, spicy hoisin for a delicious quick bite. Waiters and staff are super efficient, helpful and friendly. You will find everything you expect from an upmarket sophisticated venue including cloth napkins and beautiful decor. The drinks menu is a ring-bound folder with pages and pages of wines and cocktails to choose from. The menu is a delicious selection of those sought after items you’ll find only at a venue such as this.

Lunch @LucyLiuMelbourne and got the 5 plate feed me menu. Tuna tartare - very delicious way to start the meal, a tasty sesame cracker serves as a vehicle to hold the tuna, the light fragrant Asian herbs adding enough flavour punch without overshadowing the fish Green papaya salad, shrimp, chilli & lime Wow, what a refreshing dish! Generous amount of soft shrimp amongst the grated carrot and papaya, against a light coconut and lime dressing which just balances the slight him of chilli. I like the crunch of the fried shallots. Pork wontons, spring onion ginger dressing - lovely soft silken wontons encompass a delicious mixture of pork immersed in a flavoursome light sauce. However, it's the chilli which jumps out and leaves your lips zinging adding a major punch at the end of each bite! Steamed cod, stir fried water spinach - really light dish balanced by the salty sauce, having with some steamed rice helps take the edge off. Really yum. Pork chop in sweet and sour sauce. This was really yum, it's hard to go paste the sweet and sour flavour combination particularly the frsh squeeze of lime juice as the sour element. Eating this along with the peppery Asian coleslaw is a mix complement to the meatiness. I really enjoyed the flavour combinations of the various dishes presented. The venue is relaxing with a lovely ambience and I was very well looked after by the friendly staff. Back @LucyLiuMelbourne to try the famed soft shell crab and other goodies. Kingfish sashimi, green nam jim, coconut and Thai basil Wow, what a flavour packed dish! It's all in the nam jin dressing, a light, acidic, salty, slight chilli hum in the sauce complimenting the Kingfish but not overpowering the delicate flavour. The toasted coconut adds a lovely crunch, the Thai basil a lovely sharp herbiness, and the aerated coconut cream adds a lovely creaminess and coconut flavour, though one could eat it without and the dish is still amazing. Soft shell crab jianbing, spicy hoisin A lovely soft smooth thin crepe like jianbing tightly surrounds its contents. The jianbing is bland which is perfect as it allows the slightly salty crispy crunchy soft shell crab to shine through. Very moreish the hoisin and herbs and a nice lift to the crab. Fried chicken bun, gochujang, pickled raddish I'm a real fan of bao and this is no exception. Soft, glistening and perfectly cooked, it holds the crunchy fried chicken covered in the not too spicy Korean chilli paste, gochujang. Very yum dish. Lime and lychee sorbet Something light to finish off, I asked beforehand about the ice cream flavour available and decided on this. After the journey I've been taken on of delicious Asian flavours, this sorbet is a fantastic way to finish. Tropical, fruity, refreshing, each bite is like being taken to a tropical oasis. It’s a stunning location, great for a night out. The best was the salad and oysters. The bathrooms are disgusting, really need attention.

I like the Red entrance walk way very much. It gives such an Asian style vibes. Food was wonderful especially tempura betal leaves and Pork Hock. Staff were friendly and attentive too. Ill be coming back for sure!

Enjoyed delicous food, cocktails, wine and great friendly service, can't fault anything. The only disappointment was when we arrived at the front door we were instructed to walk around the block, down an alley to enter, maybe a covid measure? As we exited through the front door, not much of a big deal it but after walking from the Theatre l really needed to visit ladies room!

Lucy Liu what happened to you? You used to be incredible - with mouth watering dishes that were full of flavour. Following my last two attendances I have been left extremely disappointed by the lack of flavour, clearly not fresh produce and mediocre customer service. I won’t be returning. Management, please revert back to your old ways.

Good Asian food. Good flavours. Solid food. The papaya salad had an authentic sour flavour and the fish Baos were really nice. The dumplings were different, probably a bit too expensive for the quality. Nice aesthetic but would only come back for some solid food. Need an x-factor dish.

Ordered the 5 plates, all dishes are good and just the dumplings were with too much vinegar for me. Definitely a Lovely place for lunch with friends, clients or family.

Delicious food good atmosphere and friendly staff. Their starters are really nice but most definitely overpriced. The mains are delicious and fairly priced.

An absolute great find on our exploration of Melbourne. Asked about their gluten free menu and my partner was given a specific dietary requirements menu. Not the normal one. The food was absolutely fantastic, the rendang was some of the best I have had. The staff were super friendly, and even for a packed evening the food came out super quick.

Awesome service. The vegan/ vegetarian set menu was very delicious and really filling. I couldn't finish all the food. The cauliflower was superb!

We had the best waitress yesterday (she was lovely and had glasses). The food was good! Fish tasted sooo good with a type of chilli jam, asian greens - on point and calamari was so nice. The cocktails we ordered were different but it was very nice! Love the ones recommend! Thanks so much for a good night

They make their own gin with galangal and lemons which was refreshing. Friendly service and wonderful fusion food. All in all had a great evening with friends.

An excellent example of modern Asian fusion and one of the best meals I've had in Melbourne. I visited here with my paterents and we were impressed with the design of the venue and the quality of the food. There were lots of interesting textures and delicious flavours. Perfect for those who enjoy a few plates to share.

Was there on Wednesday night for dinner and the place was packed. I can see why, every dish that came out was impressive, we did not wait long at all. The wait staff were polite and friendly and certainly knew the menu very well. I cannot fault it. We will be going back for certain.

We had the 7 dish banquet and the food was delicious! The dumplings and beef were ok, and I wish there was more sauce for the fish curry but the kingfish sashimi and chicken wings were smashing. The cauliflower dish is absolutely amazing - flavour combination and texture were fantastic. Service was quick and friendly. We had a wonderful night!

Love love love. What a great atmosphere and food. The shitake mushroom dumplings were impeccable. Wagyu beef - amazing. Coconut rice and ribs - next level.

Great service, really liked the papaya salad, calamari, and dumplings. But felt the dishes were often a bit too overdressed/over-sauced.

Absolutely delicious meal at Lucy Liu. Didn’t have a booking and they were able to seat us straight away. The waiter was super nice and recommended some dishes to us. Service was super fast and the food was delicious. Cocktails we’re also so tasty! Will definitely be back.

Feed me options were great and very tasty, tap beer was very good and the venue is perfect for date night. Had the bar seat which actually worked out very well watching the chefs at work. Recommended !

Food was amazing - fresh, tasty and delicious! Staff were very attentive and helpful- guiding us from choosing a dish that was too big for two of us which we were very appreciative of as we saw it arrive on the table next to us - it was huge! Great sommelier allowing us to taste wine before choosing the wine! Highly recommended 😃

"Our server was incredibly gracious and helpful with dietary requirements. The cocktails were delicious, and the food superb. We had seats right on the kitchen bar, and it was impressive to watch the cooks at work making such amazing food! Great atmosphere, perfect dinner spot before a show!"

Atmosphere is good but food was very bad for the price. Flavourless scallop fried rice, no pepper taste in the black pepper calamari. Tables seated very close together and always a packed restaurant.

I was dining in our first dating . The atmosphere was good , looked busy and crowded ,most of customers were Aussie , just some table of asian , especially us we did not expect perfection service but at least when you guys served us with smiling it would make our day better , i was not sure its a discrimination or not however will come back but need to train staff attitude not about racism asian .

Lucy Liu continues to deliver awesome food. We now live in Sydney so hadn't been for years. Tonight we sat at the counter which was incredible - amazing to see the chefs at work creating great tasting food. We started with the KINGFISH SASHIMI, GREEN NAM JIM, COCONUT & THAI BASIL which was so tasty and the perfect start to our night. We then had 2 serves of LUCY’S SOFT SHELL CRAB JIANBING (one at the start of the night and one at the end as they are so good). My husband had the CRISPY PORK BUN, HOUSE MADE KIMCHI, SRIRACHA MAYO which he loved - it's made with pork belly which I can't eat. I had the FRIED CHICKEN BUN, GOCHUJANG, PICKLED RADISH and actually had a second one (but the second I asked for with extra Gochujang sauce as that's where the spice is - omg, so so so good - and reminded me of when I first ate it). We also shared GREEN PAPAYA SALAD, SHRIMP, CHILLI & LIME which was light, delicious and a perfect accompaniement to the other dishes. I highly recommend Lucy Liu and recommend the smaller dishes on the menu as I personally find them more flavourful. Our service last night was mixed. Our main waiter (male, Asian appearance) wasn't particularly attentive or engaging. However a waitress, Amy, brought our drinks and then was incredibly engaging, assisted us with ordering and then took our order - she was fabulous and made our night. Drinks were well priced - we had beers and gin & tonics.

Visited here last weekend when on a city break to Melbourne. The food was amazing, we shared a few dishes and enjoyed all of them so much. The duck was amazing, so tender. Will be recommending to anyone visiting Melbourne. The staff were really helpful and explained the menu. It had a lovely atmosphere and beautiful interiors.
