Stopped by Rare Steakhouse in Melbourne and left with a variety of impressions. The beef was decent, but the kangaroo was a tad chewy, with the sauce and carrot puree not quite complementing as I'd hoped. Desserts were standard fare, with the affogato standing out as a better choice over the donuts. A solid 4-star experience, with a few tweaks here and there, it could be exceptional.

I thought I’d give Rare a fair review for what we had when we visited. We ordered a medium eye fillet and it was a disappointment because it was overcooked and a bit dry. Although everything else was okay, we were expecting a decent steak which was perfect for a dinner date. Nonetheless we still enjoyed the dining experience and I would recommend their pesto ricotta, salad and their tiramisu!

Unfortunately I cannot give Rare a good rating as our 1.3kg expensive Tomahawk was overcooked despite we asked for medium rare, taste was not there and even the way they cut it was far from being to the standard we'd expect from a place like Rare. We were told that the kitchen was not performing well or something was going on. When we ordered a rib eye after, we asked for a much better quality service, that came well but disappointing experience overall.

This is a significantly under-discovered favourite place in the area! You’ll thank me later for introducing it! I tried the Naranja Margarita (salted), Boerewors and T-bone steak. Naranja Margarita was impeccable, then for starters I picked one of the most difficult chef challenges for picky reviewers like me: Grilled Boerewors, a type of South African sausage that is a mixture of beef and pork (originally lamb and pork). It was fresh, clean, sharp, with a flawless sauce. T-bone steak: is worth every single chronon of time and cent of money! This is one of my top 5 steak places in Melbourne now. For the first time, the steak is a real 5/5 in every aspect. If you’ve followed my reviews from around the world, you know I have an involuntarily heightened sense of smell: they get 100/100. Glasses odourless, cutlery odourless, the cocktail and the dishes passed my super smeller test. The team at Rare Steakhouse Uptown you should be really proud of yourself!

You can expect friendly service from excellent staff, and eat delicious steaks and dishes at a reasonable price. Additionally, the interior of the restaurant is neat and well organized.

With three location in the CBD, you’ll have all your steak needs covered whether you’re uptown, midtown or downtown! We tried: 🐚 Pan Seared Scallops 🦑 Salt & Pepper Calamari 🥩 Eye Fillet Pasture Fee 🍖 Angus Beef Spare Ribs 🥗 Garden Salad 🍸 Cucumber Gimlet 🍷 Bloody Shiraz Sour The scallop and chorizo entree was a delicious start and was served with creamy cauliflower puree that we liked so much we started dipping the calamari into it too! The calamari was lightly fried, crunchy and served with sweet chilli sauce to dip. The main event was obviously the steak, which was served medium rare with creamy mushroom sauce and crunchy chips! Flavour was great and texture was tender, all you need in a good steak. We loved the ribs, which were also incredibly tender and paired well with the mash and bbq sauce. They also do yummy cocktails - the cucumber gimlet was nice and fresh, while the bloody shiraz sour was citrusy and sweet. Service was a little slow, however overall, a lovely spot for steak night!

A few weeks ago I attended this gorgeous steakhouse in the heart of the CBD. We dined on the incredible Tomahawk steak served with a garlic sauce, red wine jus and black peppercorn sauce. No words can explain how amazing this steak was- wow! It was cooked to perfection- medium rare which is exactly how I like it! It was charred beautifully on the outside and was so incredibly tender on the inside. We also had a range of entrees my faves being roasted field mushrooms and the side of garlic bread. Service was impeccable and an incredible wine list to offer to for all you wine connoisseurs. If wine isn’t your thing, make sure you check out their amazing cocktail list! This place has such a luxurious feel and I’ll definitely be coming back for a date night 🔥

Traditional steakhouse with your usual cuts of meat. We had the Tomahawk steak for 2 ($130) which was a lot of delicious meat. Not evenly cooked though, ranging from blue to medium in different parts. The pork ribs were delicious, as were the sweet potato fries and onion rings. Service was friendly and attentive. Bookings essential, and plenty of seating.

I had an amazing time with my family here tonight the service was exceptional and the staff showed a real passion which translated to not only the overall experience but the food as well which was incredible to say the least. Lastly I would love to give a big shout out to Brianna and Dominek who went above and beyond with the service. The chefs who did an incredible job delivering high quality cuisine which left me satisfied. Will definitely be coming back here in the future.

Service was friendly and professional. They recommend good/matching drinks with our desserts 👍 Everything we ordered was fantastic! COFFIN BAY OYSTERS Taste fresh, plump texture; really really enjoyed that. EYE FILLET Ordered rare, very tender with excellent texture. Taste was superb. The Danish Blue Cheese sauce elevate the whole experience. WARM STICKY DATE PUDDING Nothing beats this for warmth and comfort. Add a port (Galway Pipe) on the side and you're all set.

A proper steak restaurant. Extremely good service and a sleek comfortable dining space. I went for the 500g O'Connor rib eye. Unfortunately my cut had no marbling at all which takes away from the true flavour of a rib eye. Everything else was very good but I came for the steak and it was not a 5 star steak.

Food was fantastic. I would of liked a garden salad with the steak and mash. Also vegan rossoto maybe could of been a bit bigger was nice.

I've been to Rare a few times over the years and they never disappoint. Cocktails were decently strong with classic flavours. Tired the beef ribs for the first time which were huge! For those who don't mind a bit of fat on their meat, this is the dish for you. While I wish I had of ordered a nice lean steak, you couldn't argue with the flavour of the ribs! Service is wonderful and the speed is reasonable for a steakhouse. The venue itself is clean and has a really nice atmosphere. Great for date nights! The only thing that put a small hiccup in an otherwise perfect visit was the party that arrived for an event towards the end of our stay. Being a somewhat small venue, it was very loud being seated right next to a group that had childhood as well..not amazing when trying to converse. Wouldn't stop me going back though. Will just ask to be seated away from the event space. Looking forward to my next visit :)

Have been coming here since 2011 either with friends or just to treat myself to a nice meal. Last night I brought my work colleagues with the promise of a proper steak. None of us were disappointed. The service was impeccable, the staff kind as always & the food was amazing (I always get the 200g rib eye medium with chips & Danish blue cheese sauce). For my friends this was their first time at a proper steak restaurant & we’ve agreed we’ll come back again sooner rather than later for our next group evening out. To the front of house staff, Keep up the fine work guys & girls. And to the kitchen, Keep doing what you’re doing. The consistency of what’s coming off your grill will keep me coming back, Cheers 😃

Celebrated our valentine’s day dinner here w/ my bf and sister! We booked our reservation around 8pm. We arrived in the restaurant around 7:40ish and the front desk was so kind and accommodating. We waited in the couch unfortunately the place was really packed and busy. They were able to give us a table 8:30. Well, no big deal w/ us since we were seated comfortably and they gave us complimentary wine! We got the dinner set. Worth the wait! We love the appetizers! The best appetizers ever — calamari was soft , juicy and delicious 10/10. The roasted mushroom w/ ricotta 10/10 delicious!!!!!!! Im still dreaming about it while writing this review. We also tried the sausage 8/10. The roasted rice balls w/ cheese inside 8/10 not sure w/ the names exactly of the appetizers ✌️ i ordered pork ribs 10/10 even w/o the sauce its tasty! Im delighted w/ the meatiness, smokiness and the savory taste! It has a distinct smoky flavor deliciously aromatic flavor! My bf ordered steak eye 8/10 it was good but i was expecting more flavor and caramelization. My sister ordered steak also she chose well done thats her preference but for me the steak was firm , dry and more chewy. I also love their sauces our favorite was the blue cheese 10/10. mushroom sauce 7/10. Signature bbq sauce i think 7/10. Overall, we love our dining experience! The ambiance is romantic and w/ ambient lighting. The hospitality and warmth of the staff 11/10!

Our experience at Rare was totally amazing..The mushroom entree left my mouth watering for more, the garlic bread was hot and buttery...yum. Our steaks were perfection on a plate. Desserts are incredible but the Tira misu was the winner. A great choice of wine and cocktails to choose from. I work in hospitality and the staff I would hire in a heart beat. So intentive and professional. So glad I took my favourite humans there. We had a memorial night.

Just wanted to share my two cents worth on our visit to Rare - Uptown. Booked here with the idea that we could have a great dinner just before heading to the princess theatre to see a show in the evening. We booked for 5pm, were a little worried that the signs said 5:30pm opening but were glad to see that the times printed were not right. Sat down and went through the menu, decided that we would order the Tomahawk to share and grab a couple of starters for the table. Eventually settled on the sharing platter and scallops. The sharing platter had boerewars, calamari and grilled mushrooms. The real highlight was the sweet chilli sauce which was so surprising, a really fresh chilli sauce. The sausage and calamari was good but we thought the mushroom topped with fetta was a great combination too. The scallops were a little bit disappointing, they didn't have that super fresh feel and were a little bit overcooked. The chorizo was unable to add much to the overall taste but the cauliflower puree was done really well. The main character was the Tomahawk that we ordered. Cooked more to a medium than mid rare ordered, but the quality of the beef and the taste was fantastic. We thought that the value was not bad either as the $185 price tag for the Tomahawk included two sauces and also two sides. We opted for the sweet potato fries and broccolini and beans. Good sides, perhaps fries could have been more numerous, but no big deal there. Enough to eat for four, including two big eaters. Very happy with the flavour of the steak. Would happily come back here for the meat, might choose some different starters next time. I have since heard that dessert here is pretty good too, so something for next time!

Great steakhouse located in a great location! Came here because of the high reviews and was definitely not disappointed! The steak was phenomenal and the mushrooms sauce was amazing! Chips with mushroom sauce were heavenly! The atmosphere was great! Will definitely come back again!

One word, WOW! Food and service we couldn’t fault. Lovely atmosphere, we enjoyed a nice romantic dinner for 2. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, best scollops we have ever eaten, the oysters were delicious and the steak yum! Also have to say the best mash potato I have ever had. We will definitely be back!

We didn’t have a booking on a Saturday night, we rocked up early and the staff were nice enough to squeeze us in! I’m glad they did because it was the best meal we’ve had in Melbourne! We had our two little ones with us, no kids menu but the staff were amazing & bringing our smaller cutlery for them. 100% recommend! Friendly service, delicious food and cocktails!

Unbelievable food. First time coming and won't be our last. The staff were friendly and amazing and had amazing accents. The food. Wow how to start if it was my last supper I would be happy for it to be my last meal

Fantastic steakhouse. Perfectly cooked steak with smooth silly mashed potato. Priced a little higher but definitely worth the try. Steak was juicy and tender, very well cooked! The red wine jus was beautiful as well. Only thing was one of us ordered sweet potato fries instead of the regular fries which turned out a little soggy and not crispy. Apart from that, perfect!

Got a craving for steak and was fortunate enough to mange to try one at Rare Steakhouse in between lockdown 5.0 & 6.0. I felt a bit guilty taking my non red meat eating wife here but needn’t have as there was plenty of options for her. We started with calamari which we had with a couple of wines by the glass whole our mains were prepared. My medium rare steak was thick and juicy and it came with a buttery mash and I chose the mushroom sauce . Really satisfying sauce too and I’d say the meat needed it as it one only basically seasoned. Kellies grilled chicken was as tender as and actually well flavoured and not at all dry like breasts can go ( wondering if it was brined?) The venue itself was tasteful and relaxed, possibly more relaxed due to occupancy restrictions… but I liked it that way.

Good experience for large group and good ribs. Only fault from the dining experience was that there was huge variation in our groups steak. Some definitely overcooked and some way severely undercooked.

Took my work team out for dinner and we had a great meal at Rare Steakhouse Uptown! Friendly staff, meals were delicious, sticky date pudding is amazing and huge!! Service was excellent. Great atmosphere. One out of seven steaks was slightly over cooked so they took it back and cooked a fresh one, received complimentary steak and side as a result. Will definitely go back.

One of the best meals we have eaten in Melbourne! And one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten! It was a little noisy and it would of been nice with some sort of background music. Overall a great experience!

Staff were lovely and accommodating with allowing us an earlier service time (Theatre Seating). We ended up getting there late and they were great about it. Food came out in good time. Steak was cooked as requested and was a beautiful cut. The mash was of good consistency and flavour, well done!

The service is impeccable, food brought out nice and hot and at the same time as others at the table. The steak was cooked to perfection and the espresso martini left you wanting more. Will be back again without a doubt.

Nice place for dinner. Entrees, mains and desserts were delicious. The only negative was the mushroom sauce which was a little too sweet. Fortunately, they have mustard available to go with the steaks. The crispy chicken wings entree are also amazing and are a must try!

WOW WOW WOW! My partner and I had been craving some ribs and found this place to be the best from other reviews and it was better than expected! All the staff were so attentive and nice and made the whole experience so seamless. Entrees were fresh and delicious and we could barely even speak to each other while eating the ribs they were that good! Chips were also the perfect crunch on the outside fluffy on the inside. I was tempted but just way too full from the mains to have dessert but I’m sure they would’ve been just as perfect. Couldn’t have asked for a better night 🥰

Holy 🐮 this place was AMAZING. We went searching for a perfect steak for our last night in Melbourne and stumbled upon this place down an alley. After a glance at the menu and a quick rating review we went in and were seated quickly and courteously. We ordered the chateaubriand and it was divine. Great wine, fair prices all things considered, and a really nice atmosphere. I could go on and on, like how the feta topped portabellas blew my mind 🤯 but I’ll leave it at that. You won’t be disappointed!

Great staff! Very friendly & caring. They we’re very accommodating of my food allergies, and made sure to tell me if anything anyone at the table had ordered (not just myself) contained the allergen. I was seriously impressed. The risotto was great and a was a generous serving size. The crème brûlée is one of the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot of them! I could’ve eaten five. Delicious! I will note that the bathrooms are on the second floor; only accessible through a flight of stairs. So I’d suggest checking out one of Rare’s other locations if that is a factor for you.

We visited Rare Steakhouse Uptown the moment we heard they were reopening for a steak date night. On the night we had: - entree plate tasting for 2 - eye fillet steak with chips and mushroom sauce on side - Scotch fillet steak with chips and peppercorn sauce - mocktail and cocktail Loving the entree tasting plate, it’s great start when you’re indecisive like me. The calamari was soft and mushroom was tasty as well as the sausage. The steak were perfectly cooked to my liking medium-rare. Together with the sauce serve on the side, soooo good. And I’m sure you love red wine, do pair it with your steak 🍷🥩 Definitely highly recommend this steakhouse to everyone!

Absolutely amazing!!! The service from James and Judy was outstanding!!! Got in late to Melbourne on a very busy Friday night. James accommodated us and found us a wonderful table. Food was exquisite. Beef cooked to perfection. Nothing was in the “ too hard “ basket for this restaurant. Wish more could be like this superbly run restaurant.

Absolutely flawless experience. Food was sensational and took a very reasonable 15 minutes or so to come out which was great. (Irish?) Waitress and French lady behind the counter were positively lovely, always smiling and excellent & attentive service. Our waitress suggested Artiste cab sav 2017 with the steak and it was such a smooth pairing. Steak is just as delicious as rare downtown which was our usual place, but I actually enjoy the quieter atmosphere here much more! We could get in at short notice (walk-in) and the tables are spaced out well. They're just missing the chocolate fondant cake on their specials board, it's literally my favourite dessert in all of Melbourne but it appears only downtown has it. Hope they adopt it at uptown as well soon 🤞

Overall it was a good night and most of everything we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately our Tomahawk steak was over cooked, which was obviously one of the main things we ordered and for $185, we definitely expected better. Staff were really nice, but nothing was really done about our disappointing tomahawk.

Came here for a friends birthday and was astounded by the experience. My eye fillet was cooked perfectly and tasted very good! Amber was very attentive to our needs, giving good recommendations and was great to have a chat and have a laugh with! Great option if looking for a quality steak option in Melbourne

1st time attending and food was excellent. Starters of garlic bread and salt and pepper calamari were a good way to start of the meal. Then the 350g scotch fillet was beautiful so succulent and tender and the grilled chicken breast was superb also. Dessert was crème brûlée and a mango and coconut pan a cotta. A nice bottle of red wine helped compliment the proceedings. Staff were attentive and polite and helpful. Reasonably priced and great food so definitely recommend a trip there
