We were kicked out for taking photos with flash on (in the dark) and for taking a hit from a vape. Fair enough for the vape thing but it wasn’t a warning — we were just kicked out… OF THE BUILDING! Could or could not be racially motivated (we’re Asians, I still don’t want to assume) because one white male staff in particular was annoyed at us the moment we walked into the restaurant (he also kicked us out). Someone chased us after when we went to the bathroom before leaving just to kick us out (she was nice, no complaints about her). We talked to people while going downstairs who found this treatment very odd, so it could be true. I don’t want to assume it is the same for all people of the establishment but I am never going back here. Shame. Additional details: he was very rude from the start and literally said “seeya” while taking our water?? We were kicked out pretty early while several people were still sat down

Beautiful period building refurbished for modern times! Multiple businesses inside and easy access for disabled patrons via ramps a lift make this a hidden gem. Situated in the heart of Melbourne, this six storey building houses everything from hair salons, fashion shop to a roof top bar! It's practically Melbourne stuffed inside a building! You can catch a show or a band at the Toff in Town or even a bite to eat with their Thai inspired menu. A must stop visit for locals and tourists alike.

Curtin House features diverse offerings, but some areas may feel cramped, affecting comfort. The rooftop bar provides a vibrant atmosphere, but long wait times for drinks are common. The pricing is reasonable, yet the overall maintenance could be improved. Despite these aspects, Curtin House stands as a decent choice for an enjoyable evening in Melbourne's bustling cultural scene.

Nice rooftop bar near Chinatown in downtown Melbourne. The bar staff was super nice and friendly. They have a great variety of drinks and cocktails. There's smoking area too.

Clean and easy to get to, gas heaters are good for cold days just reconsider going when wet as there isn't much cover on the rooftop bar.

Good roof top area with nice views of the city. No table service but there is sit down areas. Has other levels with bars and restaurants that seem good. Can see live music here at a cost. Can get busy at times where atmosphere is lovely and fun

A very busy bar on Warm days The bar service is very slow! Given this, tables should have automated ordering PADs and dedicated staff to run orders out! Just a suggestion! Otherwise it's all part of the atmosphere and I really love hanging. Out here.... Thanks heaps

Great roof top bar with a pleasant ambience. Trendy crowd after work. Stairs are hard work when lift not available. Had an enjoyable evening there.

Great little place with a nice intimate setup, everyone is close to the stage. Sound is great, easy access to the bar, smoking area in the balcony outside. Lift available to go up to level 2. We watched Sam Perry (The Voice 2018 winner)

Good place to grab a couple of drinks with friends. Have an extensive menu of cocktails. Pubs on each floor so you can work your way down. Start with the rooftop as a queue build up later in the night.

Really cool building with so much charm and lots of stairs (there's an elevator but where's the fun in that). Experienced the rooftop bar and the toff and really enjoyed both. The toff was filled with people dancing to jazz and the energy was electric. Heaps of space on the rooftop bar. Lots of little booths in the toff that you can close which I thought was super cool. Will be back!

I mean it’s a convenient rooftop experience but it’s not particularly ambient or amazing, it’s just where you kind of end up sometimes. I’m not going out of my way for it.

Loved the ambience. Good music and rooftop views. Nice collection of beers, cockrails and mocktails as well. Go around 6 or 7 in evening, take a jug of Furphy, sit by side so you can have a beautiful view of city and enjoy Beer. Food is also good, especially Burgers and fries. Lot of other options are also available.

I still and will always probably love this place. The lines for drinks are hella long on hot days. They should open the small bar back up for beers. And it has to be said, the music used to be tight as outkast, breaks etc, now it's mostly lo fi house muzak...Not good for even the smallest of boogies

The hostess/ front of house lady on Saturday night was inappropriate and aggressive, she stared me and my friend straight up and down multiple times on our arrival without making any eye contact or saying a word. We want to make this woman aware of how harassed she made us feel and how unacceptable this behaviour is in a moderately priced restaurant with no dress code. She also didn’t treat the male members of our group in this way. However jack was wonderful and the chicken skewers were divine!

Always lovely vibes at Curtin House, whether you're going for some drinks at Rooftop Bar, a dance at the Toff or some food at Cookie. Friendly staff all around.

Melbourne is known for its rooftop bars and quirky night scene and no night out is complete without visiting one of the many establishments at Curtain House. I recommend starting from the rooftop bar at the top, and working your way down. Personal highlight is The Toff with bar/eatery with private booths one side and a nightclub with a stage the other with a New York 'esque' out the back. If you are looking for a typical 'melbourne' Arvo/evening, head to curtain house.

Was in the rooftop bar here. Had to queue to get in but was worth the wait. Good music and selection of drinks. Great views, atmosphere and recommended no matter what time of the day.

Melbourne mainstay. Attended the rooftop bar, very chill, and old fave, Cookie. Surprised the Mexican restaurant wasn’t open on a Sunday. Didn’t make it to the Toff unfortunately. Next time!

Always a good place. Have found over the years that later in the night it's a kinda of a safe place - not perfect, but hey your out late

  • 5/5 Daniyeru 8 months ago on Google
Always friendly staff at the bar, unlike some other bars where the tenders there think they're still too cool for school. Combine great hospitality with equally great people around you, rooftop vibes, booth vibes, good drinks and almost 360 degree views of Melbourne and you have a not to miss spot in Melbourne!

worst security guard in the world - i told him i’m deaf and cannot hear after speaking to him. this was pure discrimination against me. i was very angry. get proper security staff with better manners and less discrimination.

Cool place. Rooftop bar is awesome. Security were nice. Elevator is decrepit and congruent with that in a horror film.

A Melbourne institution. I’ve come here over years and wanted to finally leave a review for all the great things that happen here. From the rooftop bar to the greatest book shop in the cbd or the Toff dance floor. This place will look after you and leave you feeling stylish, drunk, danced out and full of goodness. It gets busier the higher you climb, so come prepared and you’ll be sweet.

The coolest rooftop bar in Australia. You have a good view on the city while sitting on a rooftop. The food is also amazing and they provide variety of the beers. Smoking is permitted in designated area which is next to the bar and you are allowed to eat. All in all a very good vibe.

  • 5/5 Harry H. 4 years ago on Google
Overall a great place. As a celiac I often have a hard time finding gluten free food, but this place served both tasty gluten free food and delicious drinks. The rooftop bar and open air cinema are a huge bonus.

  • 5/5 Jamie H. 4 years ago on Google
Rooftop bar is pretty classic Melbourne. Eclectic people, good eats and drinks and you can watch the world go by. Music is that perfect level of not too loud, but you always see at least a couple people bouncing their heads.

  • 5/5 Drew M. 4 years ago on Google
Between Mesa Verde's astounding margs and the best cinema in town on the roof, this is quite the nighttime spot.

Brilliant building full of fun restaurants and bars, and during the day, businesses.

Great views and CBD buzzing atmosphere. Funny and awkward cramped lift journeys up and down with sweaty drunk Irish groups add to the charm and experience

Absolutely fantastic location! Summer afternoons and evenings are a beautiful time to be up among the rooftops of Melbournes cbd. Great selection of beers on tap and a neat collection of house cocktails serve to quench the strongest of thirsts. I am partial to the sloe gin myself and combined with a good spot to sit its one of the best places to spend an hour or two or three.

Great idea, easy access. First time I went there years ago, it was a weekday afternoon, and it was a nice and quiet place for a quick escape. The most recent visit was on a Friday evening, and of cos, it was packed and noisy. Good vibe, just not for me.

Amazing rooftop bar with great food! So relaxing on a Friday arvo with beautiful views and good music. They’ve a misting system and umbrellas to ensure you don’t get hot. The cocktails are fantastic as is the food and ordering is so easy and COVID-Safe, you do it all through your phone and can use Apple Pay even and the receipt is sent via text to your phone. So easy! They even have fantastic security and crowd control at the entrance to ensure social distancing and general security. Absolute must try!

The beer was crisp and the roof top is a good atmosphere but the chips were so salty. The smokers is right next to the tables which albeit convenient could be annoying

Went to a comedy show came again for the bars. Lots of bars to go to with good ambience and there's also a rooftop bar. There's even a booth where you can close the door in one of the bars if you need privacy. Complaints were that the music was too loud it felt like I was in a club and the small elevator. Drinks were very good, didn't try the food.

The building has a some excellent places to catch up with friends. Like the rooftop cinema, the toff of the town, and the this restaurant Cookie. There are few other places in the building, which I have visited, so I can't comment on those places.

Looking into the entrance of this place you may not be enticed to enter. Let me assure you this place is a treasure trove of shops, bars and restaurants.

Visited the bar/restaurant cookie on a Saturday night. Although, it can get busy the service is on point. Tried a variety of foods on their menu. One of the best Thai food I've had in Melbourne. Absolutely recommend their lemon chicken skewers, chicken pad Thai and lamb curry. Entre's were delicious and so were all the mains. Great for party bookings. However, the drinks especially the cocktails were very expensive around $20-$30 each. The music and ambience was great, loved the interiors.

Loved it last time I was here 10 months ago. Thought now that I'm in town again, I'd love to visit Curtin House. They reused to let me in, though, on the basis that I had too much to drink. Had just one drink before then, keeping it quiet with the missus. I don't know how they judge it, but apparently I was suspicious looking. Unfortunate, we were looking forward to our visit.

Nice old theatre, good seating layout not too cramped like a lot of old ones are. Front of dress circle is great position. Access to toilets and queuing for the bar are a big problem.

  • 3/5 Errold B. 2 years ago on Google
A fabulous beer drinking shrine, with a large range of beers on tap. Includes a full service eatery (don't know if they call it a restaurant). However, in spite of its central location it's not too easy to find. Just a doorway and entry to a narrow stairway and lift. I nearly went AOT after coming out of the lift, as there is another step in the dark before you arrive at the bar.

Unique old building which houses a lot of other businesses. There is the rooftop bar with cinema at the top to the Cookie bar in first floor! Suitable for young and old alike . It did feel complicated to find the businesses inside for the first time :)

  • 4/5 Michelle L. 1 year ago on Google
To sum up this place, its a good old building where you can find good food and drinks under one roof. Have some really good thai food at Cookie. Enjoy some nice cocktails and live music at Toff in town. Go up to rooftop for more drinks and open cinema
