    I've been here a few times and the bar is really cool, it's a shame the owner has no people skills. He was extremely rude to me and my friends and yelled us for accidentally sitting in the neighbouring shops chairs. He also served a regular customer that came up to the bar after us and we were clearly waiting to be served for a while, at the same time looking frustrated that we were even there asking for a drink or being there. If you read the reviews below you'll see a lot of people mention the same thing, It's a shame as the bar set out is very cool and cosy, I feel like he should hire other staff or learn to not be so unpleasant. A little baffled how this place still has 4.4 stars overall. I don't think I'll go back here from a few bad experiences so far.

    Nice Cozy Japanese bar with decent Japanese whiskey options. Would have liked to see more of the top shelf Japanese whiskeys though. Couple tables outside and some seating options indoors. I think they have a second level bit didn't quite check it out. Must get pretty busy during the weekends.

    Robot Bar is a tucked away Japanese themed bar and adjacent restaurant which was an experience not to be missed. The owner was super friendly and ensured everyone checked in before entering, covid safe! They have a wide variety of liquor available, special mention to their Japanese imported beer, which I enjoyed thoroughly! Great little bar, highly recommended.

    Definitely one of the must visit Japanese bar in the town. Lots of sake and japanese whisky options. The bartender Yoshi-san is down to earth, a good place to enjoy drinks with mates.

    Such a cosy spot. Big shout-out to the owner working solo given the pandemic. Very friendly atmosphere, the booths upstairs are intimate and relaxing. Drink prices are very reasonable, and you can tell the professionalism behind each drink. The house Sake was amazing for $18, definitely would get it again. A group favourite was the Yuzu Liqueur, we couldn't not stop ordering. Would come back again, a very niche spot - and would be a great it for a date night;

    Love the atmosphere end of lane. 🥃 Selection is pretty good and the owner is lovely. I even don't mind that he doesn't serve 🍣 like the sign says bc you walk 5 steps and there's 🍜and gyoza. Only disappointment is the price. $45 for a whisky and ramen ☹️.

    The owner/bartender shouldn't be trying to run a service that deals with customers when he has absolutely NO people skills. His attitude was repulsive, disrespectful and completely unwarranted and I will go as far as to say if you want to be treated second rate or less than, then this would be the only reason you would go to this place. Wish I could give minus 5 stars but only here to write a review to hopefully assist others in not wasting their time with this s***hole.

    Waited 5 minutes in front of the bartender who thought it was more important to dry some cups than serve me in full knowledge I was waiting there.

    One bar staff member on, who frequently left the building only to return 5 minutes later. Don't come here if you want a drink before dinner. You'll probably get service after you get a phone call to return.

    There is literally 1 guy working at this bar. He does everything. I appreciate his efforts, but whether he's the owner or not, whoever running this establishment is greedy and arrogant to think you can operate a bar in the city with 1 person. He tried his best, but we had to wait quite a while for our drinks - and since he's so rushed, just talking to him felt rushed which made him sound rude (but i dont think he was).

    Just amazing. Beautiful service great cocktails and a good selection of sake. The ambiance is very chill and the service is top notch. Value for money is on par with other establishments but with a higher emphasis on quality and selection of alcohol, food and service.

    The owner (staff) is very rude and horrible. If you are not a customer, the staff literally don’t allow you to stand in front of their store and will chase you away. The owner says that “I can’t let you stand here because there is construction”, but he let his customer to sit there. The way he treats other people is insane.

    This Japanese animate theme bar has been around for more than 10 years now. Great decor and atmosphere. It has great selection of spirits, beer and especially Japanese saké. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable in Japanese saké.

    Great bartender/owner, makes excellent cocktails, with beer on offer as well as a quality array of sake. I can't claim to be a sake connoisseur but it was easily the best sake I've ever had. Small, cosy but modern venue with ground floor seating as well as a mezzanine, from which you can better enjoy the Anime projected on the wall every Tuesday night at 9pm (get there early with a small enough crowd and you might be able to choose the show as well).

    Always a great time at Robot! A pioneering Melbourne institution, hiding down the end of an alley. The earliest supplier of espresso Martinis I'm aware of :D (going back to at least 2002) Great selection of cocktails, sake, shouchu, beer, wine, and spirits. Small range of bar snacks also available, or, if you're more hungry, pop across the lane to sister ramen restaurant, Mugen. Upstairs, downstairs, and outdoor seating.

  • 5/5 Stanley Y. 1 year ago on Google
    Definitely my go to bar on a night out for pre-drinks. The chilled house sake represents good value at $18, you get about 7 shots worth. It's a nice cosy bar with limited seating and some outdoor seating with heaters. The beer is a bit on the pricey side, I purchased one Asahi and Coedo for $26. The only criticisms I will say are: - There's no tap beer - I've been here at least ten times and it's always the owner that's present, which isn't an issue but can lead to him running around during busy times and this can lead to a delay in your drink being made. Would recommend and keep coming back though!

    I first wandered in here with a date when we were looking for something to drink, having tail-ended our evening satisfactorily enough to want to go and sit together somewhere nice and cozy. Robot bar offers narrow but strong selection of local and international wines as well as plenty of Japanese drinks as well. The bar is Japan themed, with Kanji-like patterns and a pretty contemporary setup. I think they do anime movie screenings too. I had a fine time here - my only quibble is that the toilets are a little close together so if you're a little marinated and you're not paying attention you're liable to sideswipe or just walk straight into someone coming out of one of the rooms. Most def a recommend. The wines I mean, not the toilets.

    On of my favourite go to little bars on a Friday after work. Its not swamped with office workers or pre clubbers. Being tucked down a lane way obscured by other venues makes it that little bit harder to find.

    Great tapas. Shame about the last smoker who couldn't be told it was inappropriate smoking near people when eating. Not the bars fault if course.
