Great little boutique whisky & craft beer house, located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Definitely a more downbeat place, where appreciation for the product & craft is must. You’ll find a plethora of themed decorations adorning the tungsten lit halls. The bar staff are great in terms of offering a recommendation or 2, and experts at putting together a huge range of house & classic cocktails.

A must do for anyone visiting or living in Melbourne who can appreciate whisky and paired beer. An excellent place for conversations and a relaxed vibe. Plan to spend a couple hundred as a experience, it’s on the upper side compared to a standard bar, but the whisky is amazing and the offering is extremely comprehensive.

The vibe was A1, loved it. I asked for a scotch to my taste. Well sooo cool a beautiful scotch landed. A serious skill ☺️. Then randomly order a platter, well a solid taste experience. So thanks, honest but different. I will come back to fully experience this establishment.

It is a great place to enjoy whisky or beer with friends, and the staff is friendly and will suggest the best combination if you are unsure what you want. As long as you have your preference, you will get the best option.

Beautiful place, great selection of drinks and the food was fresh 👌🏼the biggest plus was the staff, very friendly and knowledgeable. The only downside for us was that even though we booked a seat well ahead we were seated in front of the dishwashing area. As a hospo professional it’s the last thing I want to see when I finally get a day off especially when paying $$$ for quite a high end experience. The staff were lovely and was happy to move us to the bar so 5 stars from us 🫶🏼

This place never fails to disappoint. The drinks list is wide and extensive, but I recommend going for one of the boilermakers; the one I had was the Trademark Turquoise and it was a fantastic pairing. The staff are helpful with suggestions. The food can be a bit of a hit n’ miss. The general vibe and atmosphere is warm and chilled.

This place is amazing! Staff were all super knowledgeable and helpful and finding the best suit to your personal tastes, whether that was beer, whiskey, cheese or meats! We got the Ploughman's platter, 2 cocktails and a suggested whiskey and we were super satisfied with everything... I will be back :)

Great place. Late night the music gets turned - too loud for me. This is not a place you dance, so don't get it. Those behind the bar can hardly hear your order. But it had a good buzz.

I do NOT recommend the whiskey masterclass with a group larger then four people. The autistics of the venue are horrible and you are not able to hear yourself think let alone hear what the staff member appointed for the class has to say. A little over priced ($75 per person) for five glasses of half a shot of whiskey and one board between 5 people. I board ratio was one grape per person. Fantastic atmosphere complemented by friendly and attentive staff. A wide selection of craft beers and whiskey, making every trip to this location unique.

Fun pub with tasty beer and food. On the expensive side (cheese board $30), but the quality matches. Suggestion: provide malt vinegar for the chips.

If you are looking for a bar that serves a variety of whisky from around the world with a good atmosphere... Then this is the place for you. The boilermaker does top shelf whisky, Scottish whisky, Aussie , USA, Japan pretty much anywhere that whisky is known these guys had it. If you are a fan of experimenting then they offer a great selection of boiler makers which is a beer paired with a whisky. The staff are really friendly and insightful and were very helpful when ordering. If you are unsure what you are after they can help navigate you to what you might like with their tasting profile selection. A must stop. Also the craft beers on tap are of a good sort and are rotated often. Highly recommended.

Friendly staff, one of the Barman's made me a really nice Mocktail, following well the base instructions about the type of flavour i liked. He ended up with a mix i felt in love with, i give it a plus as well for the nice presentation !

The most extensive list of craft beers and whiskeys I’ve ever seen! Great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and very reasonable prices. Super busy on a Saturday night. Book ahead.

This is an awesome place for a catch up with friends. I wish we had more people to sit in a booth. So warm, homey and comfy. The sirloin steak was done perfectly as per my wish. I told the bartender I wanted it medium rare but more on the rare side. He couldn't find a good option on the screen, but the steak came out exactly how I liked it!! Absolutely great job he did there⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great place with great music. Their ribs were really tender and their drinks were also delicious. I didn't get any notice that their kitchen was closing and I wish I could have tried out more food items before their kitchen closed.

Nice place to check out a spiral easy when visiting Melbourne. The bartender made us a local Aussie whiskey fight which was great. We had a boiler maker, the beer was ok. I think I liked LArk in both flight as well as boiler maker. We had gnocchi and laphroig salted fries. They were fine. All in all good for first night in Australia. We had great experience.

If you are a whiskey lover or just want to experiment this is the place! Great ambiance, relaxed, great music, super knowledgeable staff and just the collection of whiskeys would tempt a non drinker to try! We paired this with a chefs choice cheese platter and it was impeccable! Would come back to try more

Great craft beer selection here at Boilermaker House. Really friendly staff too, felt really inviting. I had the Tropical Terps which was spectacular, so fruity, but a really good IPA flavour. Tess had the Black IPA, Absence of Light. It too was very, very good. Super bitter, just like we like them. Cool bar with a good vibe. Definitely will be back to try a few whiskeys too, their menu and back wall of bottles is amazing!

We went for post dinner drinks and my husband being a whiskey and single malt drinker, loved their top notch collection of bottles. Their most expensive bottle was Balvene 40 years with 600$ for a drink!!🤩Of course we did not have that one( did nt seem wise 😅).The bartender was knowledgeable, passionate about his work and took pride in their vast collection. A very deceptive humble entrance led us to a library rooms look- alike dining area that led up to the bar. Their huge collection is alphabetically arranged , separated by bottles (with tea inside for display )and with an alphabet sticker on that bottle , that like me, most guests confuse for some unheard of whiskey bottle and are later enlightened by the leather apron clad bar tenders with a smile. Now you can imagine how many bottles they have considered they re stacked neatly in shelves all the way up to the ceiling. We did not get a chance to try the food so no reviews on that.

Fancy bar that offers a wide range of sophisticated and seasonal drinks on their menu. Excellent buld your own Chacutery Platter options and other food options. Price is expensive but can be expected from a venue this upmarket, certainly for special occasions. Much of the resturant was booked out so do make a reservation ahead of time as walkins may be difficult Staff were helpful with making recommendations and service was great. Drinks were complex and rich in flavours although sold out of a few options.

It was good place to experience but my friend kind a disappointed because we waited too long to order our cocktail drinks but suddenly the bartender/cashier “not available” so they just recommended other drinks, and the piñacolada was not really taste good

Really great place if you are looking for well curated whiskey and beer. Also a wonderful charcuterie. Great for a celebration or special occasion or if you want to try out some great whiskey and special beer. Loved our experience

Absolutely amazing time at the Burn's Supper. Will be booking next year for sure and will be visiting whenever I can in the interim 😊🧡

Fantastic experience: they know their whiskeys (Ryan knows the backstories of the many rare whiskies they carry), and they know their steak. The food and the drinks were exquisite and unforgettable. I'll probably come back tomorrow for steak night......

Very attentive staff from booking to dining. They ensured we got the experience we were after and explained the booking process, dining duration, meals, and drinks very well. Contrary to other reviews about being hurried or receiving unexpected cocktail charges, to that I’d say—they couldn’t have explained all the expectations enough on their site, booking page, menu, and in person. Service and system are straightforward, no hidden fees or hurried treatment. Yes, we were asked to move to a bar service booth after our dinner service was up, but again, this was well explained on the booking page, and clarified again over the phone on booking confirmation. The area we were transferred to was consistent with the atmosphere we requested for the dining service. Very considerate and consistent all throughout the evening. We will definitely come back and bring friends with next time!

My wife and I had a wonderful evening here for a special celebration. Food and beer was fantastic, the oysters, cauliflower bites, snd truffle Brie were particular highlights. Our server Rosa also went above and beyond to make it an enjoyable evening - friendly and helpful, and some excellent whiskey recommendations even though I only gave her some pretty vague requests to work with. Will definitely be coming back as soon as we can get more babysitting!

As a part of my Sperm Donation Australia tour of Melbourne 4th and final bar hop stop for the night, and just able to catch last drinks can't remember the exact name of the cocktail I had but was along the lines of the boilermaker sour #2 and it was delicious. Nice cosy little bar and worth a stop in.

Very limited seats during goodbeerweek, great selections of beer plus enormous whiskey bar, they do have beer paddles but not up to you to pick your favourite, food on menu were not very exciting we didn’t order much we’re not hungry anyway, friendly and knowledgeable staff and unique dark atmosphere with books and boxes of whiskey etc, would visit again, we had another great night here

Great selection of whiskey and coctails. It was a little overwhelming if you're new to this bar. However, the waiter was amazing.

The meat was fatty and tough. Very cheap cut. Would have been way over priced if it wasn't for a gift voucher. I would have been very disappointed. For the price I would have assumed larger portions.. The booth was darker than my future. We went out into the dark street to get some light.

Beautiful whiskey house with many options to choose. Great design for having your afternoon drink. Staff are so friendly and welcoming. It was just a bit dark as you couldn’t see the menu properly(old age 😉), also not a big food menu. Thank you 😊

Love everything about this bar. The beer and whiskey selection, the charcuterie and just the loveliest staff. The place also smells amazing, couldn't tell you what the smell is but it's delightful.

Stumbled upon this place between theatre sessions and loved the ambiance, friendly staff and great drink choices. A filling ploughman's platter completed a lovely evening in one of Melbourne's hidden gems. A full menu was beginning last weekend so I can't wait to go back and check it out!

  • 5/5 Asmita K. 2 years ago on Google
What an exquisite range of drinks they have. You must try the boiler maker range if you love whiskey or beer or both. Love their ambience too - it takes you back a few centuries with wooden decor, lamps and big old books. Not a lot of options to nibble along with drinks but you they do have a range of cheese and curated meat if you like that. Being a vegetarian we chose fries - a safe bet.

  • 3/5 Breanna s. 3 years ago on Google
Beers were okay, whisky range better than beers. Food not bad. Atmosphere lovely, but not well suited for couples. Too many high bench options versus tables. Inability to book a table for groups less than 4 is a massive disappointment. Assumed target market feels outdated.

  • 4/5 Alex S. 2 years ago on Google
Really love the venue, staff and atmosphere. I came for the craft beer, and stayed longer than I planned for it. Incredible selection. However the prices physically hurt your soul, so keep that in mind.

  • 3/5 Lautaro S. 2 years ago on Google
While the staff was very nice and polite, service took half an hour to bring us 2 beers, one was a $30 can that the waitress didn't even care to pour properly, giving me half a glass of foam.

The whiskey is great but they've got a great selection of draft beers.

First time here met Adam who absolutely knows his whisky. An absolute legend. Helped us booking our 2nd night here and met Connor who gave us the same level of service and whisky knowledge. If you’re looking for a place to go that has great vibes, expert whisky talk and a huge range, check it out.

The overall atmosphere and theme is good. However the mix of whiskey beer and chips is a bit of a strange one for me. The flavours didn’t really compliment each other but individually they where very nice! I guess different people have different taste!

This place had been in my bucket list for years as I live in Sydney and hadn’t been to Melbourne in a while. My first day there was great and I was stoked about their menu. Got two different boilermakers and the waiter cared to explain, etc. Upon coming back there the very next day, I had a completely different experience: we waited about 25 minutes for the first boilermaker we ordered, and upon ordering the second one it just came wrong - I was supposed to get a choc stout but an amber ale came instead. In verifying that with the waiter, they said “the keg finished and was replaced without advise”, which means the staff is not prepared to (1) differentiate between two Beer styles and hence (2) provide you with a proper boilermaker, as changing the beer style will turn into a completely different pairing… The next day I just went to Whisky and Alement, where they know their servings and go beyond the book, allowing no room for novice mistakes like this one.

My partner and I visited Boilermaker House on a quick trip to Melbourne. What an amazing place. Staff are top notch, cocktails, taps, whisky options are diverse and extensive. The vibe is also great. We actually visited twice in one night as we could not get enough. Tempted to move to Melbourne now. Keep doing great work :-)

If you like whisky this Is the place to be. Book it in advance else you will be disappointed. Closed proximity with public transport. Bar tenders are knowledgeable and will suggest you specifically if give them the info what you like and dislike in drinks. Plenty of options to choose for liquor section. Always has rotating tap of beers at this place Food is kind of okay it's not that great or go to place.

Love this place! A friend was visiting from NZ and we had such a great time drinking whisky, and indulging in some fabulous food. The goats cheese hash brown was delicious, and the Ploughman's Platter with Iberico was *chef's kiss.* Hats off to the crew who know their stuff and encourage indulgence. Thank-you.

Great selection of whiskies. The guys behind the bar have real expertise in matching you with a whisky you will like - especially if, like me, you don't normally drink whisky. Lovely cosy atmosphere on a very chilly Melbourne night!

Huge choice of drinks and fantastic venue either for groups or a date night Can be a little hard to get a table during peak periods and can get very busy - 100% recommend booking ahead

  • 5/5 Peadar Ó Fiaich-Ó M. 1 year ago on Google
Good selection beers (sorry I know it’s a whiskey place!), burger was excellent. Ribs and steak combo was equally tasty. And finished off with cocktails - the Gwen Stefani which was frickin awesome. Most of all though, the service. Rosa looked after us and was super fun and knowledgeable about the menu. We’ll come again!
