The vibes and the aesthetic of the restaurant are great. The dim lit lighting gave it a very rustic energy. The tables however, are a little bit too tall to be comfortable to sit on. We ordered the premium BBQ platter amongst 7 of us. The food was overall good. The portions were very filling. There was nothing too significant about the menu except for the pulled pork which was amazing. The brisket was a bit tough and had to be eaten with the side dishes or else was too dry. The buffalo wings were great with the ranch but the buffalo sauce was a tiny bit overpowering. The devilled eggs and nuts didn't make too much sense with the menu and weren't too special. The kransky, pork, chips and cornbread were the best parts. Coleslaw was boring and had no significant flavour. Overall good vibes for the experience.

I don't think I had an ordinary visit when I went on a Sunday night. Not long after we sat down, we placed our order, menu slightly misleading, as what you see is per person serve, but you need to purchase double that, as that's the minium to get the full Fancy Hank's experience. Basically, the wings, deviled eggs nuts arrived 15 minutes after we first ordered, which was fine, thought it would be staggered, we were hungry so went through it in no time, we waited, waited, and asked twice about the rest of the food, which we were just told "there is a hold up in the kitchen", I wouldn't call it peak hour for the restaurant at 4:45pm. About an hour after we first got there, the rest of the food came out, the meats and the carbs, by that time, we didn't really feel hungry, as it was a long wait in-between food, our stomachs seemed satisfied. Due to the price, we forced it down, when it came out, the meats weren't warm, so they must've been sitting there while waiting for something else to be ready. Staff didn't offer a drink or anything apart from "sorry about the wait", overall quite disappointing and a lacklustre experience. The meats with the sauce, pickles and pickled onion was delicious, the cornbread was the standout. Food was fantastic when it came out, the reason for the three stars was the wait in between meals.

Holy Smokes! Tasty and delicious American BBQ! Their Pork Ribs are soft, feel out from the bone, smoky, sweet and damn it is good Their fries/chips' portion is generous! The service is superb. Sad the restaurant vibes is a bit too old. Perhaps a time for a refresh Overall will come back to try other menu

You look around the room and everyone is happy. The food & service is phenomenal, Nolan & Charlotte weaving their service magic around all the tables. Incredible value for a proper feed. Kranksy, Ribs, Brisket, Corn & bourbon and all the sauces. Deep South comfort food & hospitality in Melbourne.

Went here on a rainy arvo. Bartender was very good looking, my friend tried to flirt with him in hopes of getting a sample taste of their signature Banana Ketchup sauce. He ended up breaking a glass instead 💀. Got grilled and that's how we knew this place was the real deal when it came to the roasts. But afterwards we realised we can get a free sample taste of all their sauces anyways and the Pineapple Reaper was just as hot as the waiter. The food, just like the sauce was bloody incredible and tasted amazing. Loved the atmosphere and even more so the food and the people, would definitely be coming back here again 😍.

As others have mentioned, service was great. And very accommodating, since I was dining alone they allowed me to order one serving when the minimum was for 2 (Pitmaster platter). It didn't seem like a lot of food, but I couldn't finished it. The deviled egg and fries were nice. The Beef brisket was a little too dry for my liking, as I like my brisket fatty which makes to meat more tasty IMO. And pulled pork was ok too.

Had a great time at Fancy Hanks. The smoked meat was nicely cooked and the sauces worked so well with meats. Will be back the next time in Melbourne. (But will ask for lower seating - bar stools a little uncomfortable for a bloke of my proportions 😅)

Popped in for a quick lunch mid-week and the service was great. I had the pulled pork sandwich platter which was great value. The sandwich itself was as good as I've ever had, with a generous amount of pork and a large heap of chips and slaw. The share platters are also great if there is a few of you. I'll definitely be back

Food spreads were tasty. The wings were better when I last tried them at vic market location. Service was a big let down. Not busy slow service. Paid on mobile in the restaurant and waited just over 45mins until all the food was received. This is after asking where the food was..overall good food, but based on my experience, unlikely I'll go again.

We went to Fancy Hanks a few weekends ago for the first time, we ordered the Pitmaster BBQ Platter and got: 🥚 Deviled Eggs 🥜 Mixed Nuts 🥩 Beef Briskets 🍗 Buffalo Wings 🍗 Fried Chicken 🍞 Corn Bread 🍟 Seasoned Chips 🥗 Coleslaw Everything was great, full of flavor, good portions and cooked perfectly! The beef brisket was incredibly tender and fell apart so easily with just a touch. The wings were our favorite for sure! Also, the corn bread was amazing & we’re still daydreaming about it. We 100% recommend you to try their platter 😋 The only downside was the restaurant space itself. We went there on a somewhat hot day and unfortunately they only have two wind pipes which weren’t really helping nor cool. I was struggling with the heat so we had to get the food to go and went home (luckily we live close-by!). So our recommendation is either get a takeaway or wait to dine in until the weather cools down! ❄️

Highly recommend! Got the largest share plate and it definitely defeated the two of us. Highlight of the meal was definitely the brisket! It was melting. Buffalo wings also delicious. Only downs are the 1.5hr table limit, understandable but doesn't lend itself to a relaxing time. Also I would have loved something to wipe my fingers with after chicken wings. But just nit picking really.

The beef brisket was the most tender and melting in the mouth brisket I’ve ever had. A whole range of interesting and tasty sauces to choose from. The fried onion flower was cuter crunchy on the outside and sweet on the inside. Great and friendly service. Highly recommended!

Super helpful and attentive staff. We visited for our daughters 5th birthday after a show in docklands (she loves ribs!) They were out of the baby back ribs so instead offered us short ribs. The flavour was lovely but I think not being cooked as long they weren't quite as succulent as baby backs would be. Nashville hot chicken sandwich is amazing! Also ordered extra rolls for our table so we could make our own with brisket, these come out so hot, fresh and delicious! Definitely recommend adding these to your order. We loved that they have all of the sauces on a condiment table to try with your meal so if you feel like purchasing some for take home afterwards you have already sampled and know what you're getting. The guys were awesome and showed our kids the Smoker and told us a bit about it. Overall and awesome experience, will definitely be back!

It was my first time here with a friend. We came here for lunch. The corn ribs were delicious, the buffalo wings were great, the best was the beef brisket plate. It was so soft, you can cut the brisket with just the fork - no knife needed. The waitress was very helpful in suggesting to have it with the right sauce. The flavours together were beautiful, this might be one of the best western food I ever had.

It was a hot day in the city and I really wanted to try Fancy Hanks. It’s been on my list for ages. I walked all the way across town and turned up sweaty. A quick splash of water and I was ready to go. I ordered devilled egg, corn and cheddar hash browns, smoked brisket with burnt ends and burnt carrots. Everything was perfect except the brisket flat was pretty dry and tough (the point was beautiful). The staff were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was pretty great for a 2pm weekday lunch but the music helped a lot.

Ordered the platter with 3 choices of meat - brisket, pulled pork, ribs. The ribs and pulled pork were ok, really ordinary I must say. The brisket was a disappointment. The meat was dry, didn't have the moist and some fatty texture expected in a brisket. In fact it felt and tasted like leftovers. The macaroni and cheese was ok, the fries were great though. But I didn't pay this money to eat great fries!

The service is super good. I want to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, so I made a birthday surprise. The shop assistants helped me complete it perfectly. I like this store so much! The portion of the meal is also delicious and perfect.

Overall the meal was really nice. Easily the best smoke house I've been to, which is admittedly not that many. Personally I have trouble just sitting down to a plate of meat but that's just my preference. In regards to the meal, it was very high quality. We got the 3 meat share plate with brisket, pork shoulder and BBQ pork ribs. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender and the pork shoulder had a really nice flavour. Surprisingly the rack of ribs was dry, I suspect because the meat was very lean, not much fat on them. If you like American bbq then I would certainly recommend fancy hanks.

A colleague recommended that I try out the hot sauces. I decided to buy online as I hate going to the city. Shipping was a little out of touch, but once it arrived I was extremely impressed with the packaging. Then I tried the sauces, and holy moly what a delight. I purchased the watermelon / cayenne blend and the peach / jalapeno for myself and the honey mustard BBQ sauce for the wife. She absolutely adores the honey mustard, and I am very happy with the other two. I highly, highly recommend the peach and jalapeno, it absolutely slaps. It could be a little hotter in my opinion but the flavour is unmatched. If the house sauces are anything to go by, the flavours here must be insane. If I'm ever in town I'll have to stop by.

Finger-licking delicious! The bacon pork belly was my favourite, followed by the brisket. The BBQ sauce with coffee and molasses was tasty too!

This place is the absolute Must for a BBQ lover! the brisket was perfectly cooked, you could cut it without a knife. Everything else, including the crispy onion, corn bread, ribs and and chicken, was amazing. The atmosphere was super cool, like an old traditional nostalgia dinner. Service was also excellent. We left after congratulating the BBQ masters! I would definitely go again!

Meat heaven! The beef brisket was the best meat I’ve ever eaten. The texture was soft and the smoke topped the taste. Pulled pork only slightly less sublime. Seasoned fries were tasty. BBQ corn ribs were divine. Coleslaw… pass, not good. Warm and welcoming folks running the place. Do yourself favour.

So disappointed. 😔 If you're looking for a good roast, you won't find it here unfortunately. We were looking forward to it since the place has many great reviews. The baby back ribs - which requires a $10 per pax add-on - let us down especially. The meat was tough and flavourless. We struggled to finish that last piece. Our other main, the beef brisket, was nothing memorable. Once you start chewing, its texture turned mush-like almost immediately. We've both had better roasts elsewhere at a lower price. For the sides, we had the cornbread and mac and cheese (this was good!). The deviled eggs were the best thing from this meal.

  • 5/5 Valentina A. 3 years ago on Google
I loved the meat! Smoked meat and corn bread were simply the best! I wasn't a fan of the chicken wings and the pickled veggies, but I guess they are not for everyone! The staff members were very friendly! Thank you 😊

Came here for weeknight dinner and overall I’d say it was queue average. The flavours in the food weren’t always there and the brisket in particular was lukewarm. We didn’t feel it was worth the price paid.

Amazing food and great service. Get in early to ensure they have enough of some of the menu items left. As it takes a long time to cook they can run out of some things.

We had such a good date night here. This was the premium bbq set which included deviled eggs, pickles, chicken wings, beef brisket, pulled pork, cornbread, fries, beans, coleslaw. So much food. Great value, vibe and service. And the best beef brisket we’ve had 🤤

Massive throwback to my meal here where the food is amazing and the vibe is fantastic. A lovely casual and fun spot to gorge yourself silly on meat and more meat. The super tender and meaty brisket and pulled pork are the highlights, as were the corn bread, buffalo wings, corn and chedder hash brown and corn ribs. Flavours are on point and flawless execution. Can't fault anything here, it's no wonder this place is my go-to for American BBQ.

Love this place! Great vibe, good service and did someone mention the meat! Nom nom The beef brisket is so tasty and all the sides and well made and quite unique. A fun night out for sure. Even met these two ransoms at the next table, nice folk. Meat brings people together…

Pretty tasty food with friendly waiters. The drinks are well made and everything is presented nicely. My only complaint is that our friends had already finished their mains before we received ours. Would recommend if you like brisket and pulled pork. Definitely worth ordering the wings with pineapple Carolina reaper sauce, so delicious!

  • 3/5 Dion S. 2 years ago on Google
Good quality and tender as hell brisket but I think the price was abit steep for what you get. Did I say I Was a massive fan of the brisket! found the pork a tad dry but was still tasty. The wings where deelish. I'd just say the major draw back is the limited menu and how your kinda forced to choose the platters and how expensive it is pp

  • 4/5 Sonny R. 2 years ago on Google
The food was nice but brisket was too salty and the fries also. I never had that salty brisket in my life. It was juicy and soft but someone put to much salt. Everything else was really nice, try boston style chicken wings, service amazing.

Hanks is where a couple of friends and I decided to catch up after quite a while. The interiors are welcoming and we were ushered to our booked table soon as we entered. Ordering from a scanned code does not mean you won't get helpful suggestions from the friendly staff. Our beers were brought in quickly as were the appetisers from the supreme platter and the extra blooming onion. The buffalo wings were on point but that's to be expected. The platter with the pulled pork, brisket, cheese kranskys and pickled veggies came in soon after with the house barbeque sauce and coffee molasses sauce to accompany them. Everything was great except for the brisket which I expected to be wonderfully moist but ended up being dry. Only other point of concern was they'd run out of ingredients for their Hanks old fashioned, coupled with the fact that there were no chicken dishes except for the buffalo wings and the fact that we'd booked for a fairly early timeslot (6.45 PM) makes me wonder when exactly would be a good time to turn up and expect to have all the menu items on offer. Prices are slightly high but worth paying for the excellent food.

A barbeque restaurant located in the CBD, serving slow cooked meats from their custom-built smoker visible through the window as you ascend the stairs to the entrance. Ordering is via the QR code on the table and paid in advance. Had the following: - BBQ corn ribs; sweet and juicy with a creamy sauce, slightly garlicky - Blooming onion; whole onion deep fried, batter was crunchy with a flavourful salty seasoning. Alabama sauce tasted like a ranch sauce with some spice seasoning - Chicken schmaltz cornbread; felt like eating a main and a dessert at the same time, savory and sweet. Very pleasant crunchy edges and the middle was dense but soft, very tasty with the jalapeno cheddar cream - Beef brisket; meat was very tender with a good amount of fat, pulls apart easily and not dry at all. It was coated with a dry spice rub which was packed with flavour, didn't really need to drench the brisket with the BBQ sauce. Pickled onions were sweet and vinegary, a nice palate cleanser Overall it was a delicious meal; flavours and textures were on point and didn't expect the corn bread to be so good. Staffs were friendly and food arrived pretty fast.

Great food, with great value and generous serving sizes. Genuine authentic American BBQ smoked meats and vegetables. Absolutely loved the pork ribs and even the corn ribs were surprisingly amazing. Easily the best corn I've ever had. I'm not a vegetarian but I found myself picking at my partners vegetarian dishes as they were shockingly good (for vegetarian options hahaha). Even the hot sauce selection was generous and tasted amazing!

Everything I ordered at this place is AMAZING. It feels like the restaurant do care about the food they serve, and only serving dishes they are proud of. When a restaurant serves good lemonade, you know they are not joking, easily the best lemonade i have ever tried in a restaurant. The buffalo wings is to die for, Mac and cheese has the right balance of cheesiness and the fried pork ribs is so flavourful yet not overwhelming thus making you want to go back for more. 100/10, would recommend anyone to go for any occasion.

  • 4/5 Carolyn L. 1 year ago on Google
Great ambience in a dim lit dining hall. The sides were excellent, from the buffalo wings and corn ribs to the blooming onions, fries and corn bread. Perfect accompaniments. The meats were decent, the ribs were sold out and we couldn't try, but the pulled pork was probably the best, the brisket was good but a bit dry in some parts and the bacon was a bit tough. Overall enjoyable dining experience.

  • 5/5 Zane H. 1 year ago on Google
The service was prompt, friendly and engaging. The food arrived in a well timed manner. The meat (chicken, bacon, sausage and brisket) was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the macaroni and cheese. The drinks were excellent, I was pleasantly surprised to find that a jug provide 5 full glasses. Our group left extremely satisfied.

The service here was amazing, they went above and beyond for us. The chicken wings were so good. So was the brisket, it was so soft and juicy. The Mac and cheese was really nice too. We didn't like the coleslaw or the devilled eggs though, but everything else was pretty good.

Excellent food to write home about. Succulent, juicy and sensual, just like I like my women. Get the corn bread, it will change you on a molecular level. If you're looking for great value and taste, skip brunching on smashed avo and get your lips around these pork ribs!

We went here for our Valentine’s Day dinner. We had the brisket, corn bread and croquettes. The food came out fast, meat was falling apart and tender, love the corn bread but the croquettes were only ok. The bbq sauce was tasty that comes with the meat, want to come back to try the other meats and sides as overall really enjoyed the food plus has a great atmosphere!

The brisket and corn bread we ordered was great and it was tasty and fresh even after it got to our house. The slow cooked wonder is a highly recommended choice if you ever crave the true American cuisine here in Melbourne.

  • 5/5 Kane M. 3 years ago on Google
Went here for our first post-iso meal. Incredible! Great authentic flavours, powerful sauces, great natural smoke, excellent cornbread. I cannot stress enough the schmaltz cornbread was ridiculous. Go here just for the cornbread. The pricing was great in terms of American barbecue. Platter for 1 was $39-49 depending on your selection - yet it easily fed two. The sides ranged from wings, onion rings, fried chicken, slaw etc and were priced reasonably around $6-12. When eating barbecue me and my partner usually end up with a bill around $150 - at Fancy Hanks it came to $80. We didn’t go here because of pricing, but it was a welcome surprise to get the same quality food for considerably less. Honestly, if you’re in the city swing by - I could not recommend it more

  • 4/5 Alina H. 3 years ago on Google
Food was good, but the menu was somewhat limiting in that you can only get a small selection of sides with their meats and need to order the really good sides separately which would make it too much food. Didn't enjoy the bbq sauce with the brisket at all but loved the Cubana sandwich.

  • 1/5 rudip k. 3 years ago on Google
Fried Chicken with no seasoning, pulled pork was too dry and the onion rings looked couple of weeks old. I was very disappointed, the only thing me and my girlfriend liked was the fries and the drinks. Will never be back or reccomend to anyone for food. Would surely come back for just a pint

2.5 Stars American bbq in the middle of the city serving good food but service is seriously lacking. Very sleek and stylish decor with large window and lots of natural light - definitely request seating by or near the window! Service was really slack - it felt like they forgot we were even there and we continually needed to flag someone down. The person who started serving us near the start of the evening disappeared half way though dinner. Very disappointing service. The menu on the other hand is amazing with so many wonder choices, and quite reasonably priced too - we wanted to order everything! The brisket is tender and flavourful, as is the broccoli. The slaw is fresh and light - perfect combination with the rich sweet sticky bbq sauce. The corn ribs were finger licking good. Unfortunately the ribs were so tough - beautiful flavour, but too chewy. They needed a couple more hours to cook further in the smoker. When booking online we were prompted to “pre-order” the ribs as apparently “they are likely to sell out” - so we did , and we were really looking forward to them. The Choc Tops were a perfect finish to the meal - they are just delicious. We would return as the food, but we’d just have to take a gamble on service.

A bit expensive for BBQ, but I think it's worth it. I ordered the brisket and the cornbread. Both were delicious and had that extra something that wasn't something I could do at home. Combined, the two dishes were more than enough food for a meal. I also enjoyed a cocktail, though I can't remember which one. As a solo traveller, Fancy Hank's was absolutely fine, but I would think it's better with a group so you can order several mains and sides to try different things. What made my dining experience at Fancy Hank's the best, though, was that even though the kitchen had flooded and patrons were asked to leave, the staff were very patient and gracious AND offered long-forgotten umbrellas from the lost and found to us as the downpour continued outside. I wish I could have had more time for another cocktail and maybe dessert. If I ever make my way back to Melbourne, I'll be coming back!

Had the fried corn for appetisers and it was the best dish out of all we ordered. The brisket was a tad dry than we would've liked. Good place to go for dinner and drinks with a group as the dishes were all shared and good selection of drinks as well.

Food was good and service was fantastic. A bit noisy and food was served very quickly. The beef short ribs was very nice. The spices was a bit salty but it was very fragrant and tender. The beef brisket was nice. Can be a little bit more tender but it was flavourful. Chicken wing had a nice smokey bbq small to it. A bit spicy even though it was call sweet and sour.

Busy place and for a good reason! The food is phenomenal! And we were told they have the largest smoker in the southern hemisphere, which is impressive. Attentive but not overly present staff and the menu was SO GOOD! Will absolutely be back. A lot.

We discovered Fancy Hank's by accident, but it was serendipitous. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food so, so tasty. The menu is based around sharing plates, and it worked really well with two of us. The meat was super tender (the brisket was a particular highlight), and the salads and vegetable sides provided a cleansing counterpoint. Would definitely go again.

Started badly with poor seating arrangements but after some intense renegotiation this restaurant put on some of the best tucker I've had and their service lifted to the point that all earlier sins were forgotten. Would go again no sweat.

Delicious! Great wholesome American barbecue with a twist. We had the brisket and the chicken, if you have to choose get the chicken. So tender and delicious, the combination of creamed corn and side of gravy was heavenly.

Extremely expensive BBQ. Ambiance looks like the typical Korean BBQ in the city and that same goes to the taste of their food. The only reason why I'm giving 2? is because they serve alcohol.

Faancy Hanks - what a buzz. the food was delicious - highly recommend getting the black pepper biscuit if they still have it on their menu - it's like heaven and really compliments the flavours of the meats. Service was also really great :) took my partner here for his bday and they bought out desert with candles on top for us. Coming back here for sure! Thanks for a delicious meal guys!

I arrived around 21:30 and ordered the brisket and broccoli, the meat was dry, burned and cold like they took it out of the smoker way before and served it to me. The broccoli came under cooked and full of lemon to the point that it felt like it went bad. I was expecting a bit more from a place with so many good reviews. If you can't serve good good in that hour so close early and don't let people come in. I payed too much for that terrible meal. I told the waiter everything I wrote here and he said he will tell the chef. Doesn't help me though ...

Very satisfying American BBQ, got the platter for 2 with brisket and pork, Mac and cheese and fries, couldn’t finish it, super tasty and classic smokiness and sweet marinade taste. Staff were friendly and looked after us, will be returning. Next time will try and get a table by the window.

We had the most wonderful experience for our first time at Fancy Hank's. It was a surprise for my husband's Birthday, and he is an American BBQ fanatic - he was absolutely blown away! The food was outstanding - we ordered the BBQ Plate with 3 meats + 3 sides, which also included some small share plates as entree. More than enough for 2 people (we left with heaps of leftovers) but it was a special occasion and we wanted to try a few things! The smoked chicken and kransky were delicious. The brisket was a real stand out - soft as butter. And so incredibly good with the Coffee BBQ sauce! Fries (oh wow, the dipping sauce!), Mac 'N' Cheese and Slaw were all fresh and gorgeous. The cocktails were also beautiful. We went for an early dinner prior to a show, so it was their in-between quiet time - I can picture how amazing the atmosphere would be in there once it's heaving! Would love to come back for that. But the quiet was of no consequence, because we had an absolute ball with the servers. Everything was amazing, but above all the hospitality was an absolute highlight. Brian and Charlotte were the perfect combination between professional and fun - attentive, swift service, full of knowledge about the venue + food as well as adding banter and laughter which made a very memorable night for us. Looking forward to our next visit - cannot recommend highly enough!
