Reserved a table for an anniversary dinner with my partner. Arrived and had to wait 45 minutes for a table! Meal… arrived parmigiana meant to have slaw with it, got a small handful of lettuce and a radish! She had the steak and peppercorn sauce it was a drizzle of sauce with 4 or 5 corns. Came with a salad lettuce and a radish!!! The only good thing was a refund for the steak. WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!!!!

Totally not what we expected, we received a lot of good feedback from friends however it didn't met our expectations! Food wasn't good, staff are not well experienced I think only 2 are senior then the rest are all trainee, they forgot to include one of our order so it was served very late and few of the dish in the menu are not available. The good thing is the ambience are very nice especially in summer.

Pizza was tasteless , with very little topping. Tiny mussels in big shells..not connected ?? Also a couple of tiny pieces of seafood . For nearly $30! Have eaten many times here. Never good, and we always say , we will never eat here again. Might have a cool drink on a hot day …maybe!

Sitting at the Portsea hotel for an anniversary lunch with my husband. Ordered a glass of most expensive champagne on the wine list. Was given half a glass of flat champagne with zero bubbles. Returned to the bar they were apologetic and opened a fresh bottle but bar staff should be able to tell if they are pouring flat champagne. My husband was served his meal thirty minutes ago which he ate alone as I’m still waiting for my wood fired pizza. Couple next to us had to re order their drinks three times and despite being here before we arrived decided to give up waiting for their meals and asked for a refund. One minute after they left their food arrived. Couple on the other side of us have waited for one hour for their meals. Looks like I’ll be eating my pizza for dinner at this rate. Not even that busy, good luck in summer people!! Go support a small local business who aren’t relying on trading on their name only. Disappointed.

Six of us came to the Portsea Hotel on a Saturday evening for dinner. We sat outside for drinks whilst we waited for an available table. Once inside, we ordered a range of food items including garlic bread pizza, seafood pasta, meat lovers pizza, capricciosa pizza and chicken parmigiana. The food was quite delicious. We were also treated to an outdoor grassy area which displayed the Aussie Open. Thank you to Portsea Hotel for a great experience!

Great location and staff but ordering through an app and having a default setting of 5% is disingenuous and shameful. $15 beers with an automatic tip after we do the hard part and take the order? Disappointing from management which has taken away from the fantastic staff.

The one star is for the refurbishment setting views and nothing else. We booked a table at 6.30pm. Ordered for 3 people at 6.40pm. 2 meals came at 7.20 pm, one without the mushroom sauce to go over a steak. At 7.25 pm, I asked where my freshly handmade ricotta gnocchi was, as their meals were going cold, so they started. At 7.35 pm the mushroom sauce arrived and I was told they forgot to put my order through at all, which finally arrived to the table at between 7.50-8 pm. It was just warm enough to eat, and I would say ‘not freshly handmade’, nor light and fluffy gnocchi, but I was really hungry by then - and my guests had finished their meals. Like many reviews have said, the side salads are all lettuce. Such a shame because it’s beautifully furnished with views to die for, but not the food , nor the service . They offered a complimentary round of drinks, and no charge for the just warm gnocchi. Very poor. Ended up with a voucher to return. However , not in a rush to revisit, until they can get their act together.

Great food. Absolutely friendly staff. The guy that was in charge of taking bookings for tables at the desk at the entrance yo resto was so friendly and accommodating. Went out of his way to help and to be friendly. Well done . Even when leaving he was so friendly. Now that's what I call customer service. Even when they were so busy.

Was taken for lunch with friends, wow what a great venue, excellent beer garden overlooking the water, great views. Menu is extensive and priced as most other places. We ordered on the app at the table, was very easy to use and as it was very busy, was convenient. Highly recommended if your down that way.

Only went for lunch and it was amazing. Best and biggest chicken parmigiana I've ever seen and absolutely delicious. Beautiful views, fantastic, friendly staff. Highest recommendation, try it, you won't regret it.

Major issues with pram accessibility. Lots of steps and staff very unhelpful in assisting in showing appropriate path. I had to get my partner to leave the table he had secured to help me around with going up and down the stairs with the pram. The fried Chicken burger was very average. However partner said his seafood was pretty good and not too oily. The view is great and would probably be the only reason we would return.

Had lunch here after a delightful cruise down to the Portsea beach on the hottest day of the summer so far. Nice venue with great views outside, unfortunately the chicken parmigiana left a fair bit to be desired. The crumb was soggy on the bottom and under the ham and the salad was a handful of lettuce leaves with water for dressing. That said the chips were very nice and the ham on top was rather nice.

Only reviewing the restaurant. The good: lovely location, nice atmosphere and tasty meals. The not so good: very slow service. Many of the kids waiting the tables seemed to be like in a state of slumber: It took a couple of promptings to get them to clear the table from the previous occupants. Waited about 40 minutes to get our order. Admittedly, it was quite busy but killing the time with drinks will take a big bite out of your wallet as they seem to be quite overpriced. I would still return, but perhaps at a quieter time.

Had lunch here, and was extremely busy, so had to queue outside for about 20mins, but the staff & security were very apologetic & friendly, and defiantly worth the wait. We will be back, and it would be perfect in winter with that fire roaring. Fully recommend the Chilli Lime Chicken - Amazing! Make sure you try the Blood Orange Cider (if you like that flavour). 👌 Stunning view from the hotel and surrounding area. Make sure to spend time exploring the whole peninsula. Would love to stay here sometime & see what the rooms are like.

Glorified food court with a view. $300 lunch and we were told to get our own cutlery, cleared my own table, asked for salt and told to get it myself. Young staff were very rude. Felt like I was working for you, and with a better attitude. Luckily this place has a view. Oysters - 2 were great 1 was rotten (no replacement from staff even though I couldn't eat it), clam and mussel pasta was super bland. No tomato juice. No smiles. No experience 👎

Tried to enjoy the beer garden today but unfortunately it was filled with kids playing football and running riot. It’s a shame the parents were too bothered getting drunk to notice their toddlers almost falling off the rockery at the side of the building. Staff should be on top of this or there’s going to be an accident one day. Lovely location but not relaxing at all. More like a day out at the zoo.

Came here for a Sunday lunch, expecting to sit outside. Anticipating it to be busy, as the weather was good, we arrived at 1145am. to make sure we obtained a seat in the sun outside. NOTE: You can not book tables outside, only inside. Unfortunately, on our arrival, 2 sections were not opened, and the small section that was open was full. We were very disappointed and had to dine inside. Later, we were told the sections were not open due to staffing issues. After our lunch at about 1pm, there tables available outside, so we were able to enjoy a drink in the sun. The food was pretty good but a bit pricey for the size. Probably be back, just for the location. It's beautiful.

I have stayed at the Portsea Hotel several times and it is always such a delight. The staff are incredibly kind and accommodating, the rooms are cute and comfortable, and you simply can’t beat the location. To be able to simply walk downstairs from your room for a quick swim, or a delicious glass of wine and a meal is luxurious simplicity and I adore it. Looking forward very much to my next stay. Thanks Anthony, Susie and team.

Every visit to Portsea Hotel is a joy! The combination of delicious food and stunning views never gets old. But it's Stacey who truly makes each experience memorable. Despite the hustle and bustle, she goes the extra mile to ensure we feel right at home. Hats off to her dedication! Looking forward to our next celebration here.

The pub is lovely, great environment and views however the food quality and staff were very disappointing. The fish and chips were extremely oily with oil pooling on the plate, for $34 you’d expect better. We ordered via the QR code and waited an extensive time for the drinks to come out. My cider was delayed to come out - after 40 minutes and 2 follow ups I needed to go to the bar and ask again, that’s when they finally handed it to me. The pub wasn’t busy at this time as we arrived at 11:30 as they opened so unsure why everything was so slow.

Beautiful area to eat inside or outside! There’s a great grassy area for kids or animals to play and you can watch boats sail and people playing in the water! You could come and just get drinks and enjoy the weather. We had pizza, fish and chips, and a Parma - Food was delicious with large portions! I’m visiting from the US, and would highly recommend!

My partner and I stayed in the Executive Room for 2 nights and we couldn’t be happier. The service on arrival was warming and welcoming. The room is HUGE and feels incredibly welcoming. Surprisingly there is no noise from the bar/restaurant downstairs. Highlights- Comfortable bed Great shower Large TV to watch in bed Amazingly soft dressing gown Toiletry bags for each guest Sea views

The view from beer garden was awesome. We liked the atmosphere however the food is very ordinary. We ordered burger and pasta. Maybe the pizzas are better. The bathroom is a bit interesting - there are 5 taps in the woman’s bathroom and only one bottle of hand wash. My partner said the mens room was the same. So maybe pay more attention to these details :)

Highly recommend a getaway here. Only stayed for the night but the experience we had with the staff was A+ and they went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Dinner was cozy near the fire, they were definitely busy but I can see why with the nice atmosphere (inside & out!) and wood fired pizzas. Cutest stay in Portsea right by the water and national park. Thanks Portsea! Well be back for summer.

Very picturesque, great place to have a beer and some food over looking the bay. Service was very average from the young staff, but I assume they must deal with some unreasonable customers on a regular basis. Food was very quick to come out and tasted pretty standard for pub food. Alcohol and the food was very very pricey.

What an amazing location! One of my top three in all Victoria! Views over Point Nepean National Park and the amazing bay and pier below. Sundown was majestic! Busy on Friday and the weekend but people are calm and relaxed. We were here for work and the Crew were absolutely amazing! Thanks team! Will be back!

We have been here quite a few times over the years. The food has been consistently good, not great. The combination of location, service and food has made it worth the extra visits. Today the service was excellent but we both thought our meals, Portsea burger and fish cake were well below average. Disappointing.

Fantastic food and service. The staff are very helpful! The Caesar salad is absolutely THE BEST! We had to order the second one as it was an outstanding, delicious and a massive portion salad! The mussels had excellent sauce and flavour. Thanks very much for the excellent experience and time at the Portsea Hotel.

Hotel Facilities are beautiful , airy and open. We were disappointed to see the menu is very similar to all pubs these days. Nothing special. I chose Chicken Parmigiana which was stringy and pretty bland in flavour.

It has become our favourite place. We even had our wedding there and it was perfect! Nothing was too difficult and the staff have always gone above and beyond. The food is delicious and we had so many compliments from our guests. Couldn't have been a better location and venue. Thankyou to the amazing team for making our our day amazing!

What an absolutely fantastic experience From the moment we walked in until the moment we walked out. Everyone had a smile on their face, so welcoming, and really made you feel right at home. Nothing was too much trouble and the food is great! Not our first time visiting and certainly will not be our last!

Stopped in for a feed in the first week of January, even being incredibly busy the kitchen still pumped out a good quality meal quickly. If you are game to chance it in the peak season it's worth it, definitely more family friendly and quieter away from that peak.

It’s a lovely spot and good for kids (who can have a run on the lawn) but the level of noise inside where we were seated was crazy!!!! I would just be mindful if you’re hoping for a chat over lunch it’s completely dependent on where you are seated. We couldn’t hear each other so just sat not talking basically 😆

This review is just on the bistro, didn't stay at the hotel. Normally wouldn't bother with a review because the meal was good, not special in any way, pricey, but a good size feed. However what has inspired me to write the review was the great staff. Friendly, had time for a quick chat and a laugh, asked our names and used them, this turned an ordinary experience into an above average experience. Thanks especially to Tyler and Ros for taking the time to have a chat and a laugh, you are very valuable to this business. Good Job :)

Beautiful pub for lunch or dinner, the food is fantastic and always cooked to perfection! With an amazing view of the ocean whilst eating out in the awesome and spacious beer garden, it definetly has you feeling very relaxed and satisfied all round!

Review of the restaurant only. Buzzing atmosphere. Fresh seafood. Great flavours. Come early to save your spot! Anyone walking in after 1 PM might be turned away or looking at a long wait. However, it is worth the wait! We tried several dishes and everything was great, well seasoned and delicious. The pizza and mussels were exceptional. Service can be slow because they are very busy but the food still came out in good time. Self serve for cutlery, plates, water etc. Order from the bar for quicker drinks too. All in all, great spot and worth the drive! Will be back and highly recommended.

The venue has been nicely renovated, overlooking greenery and then the ocean, the service here wasn't the best, with QR codes for ordering or having to go up to the bar, the drinks and food was pricey for what you got, espresso martini was small and watered down, the eye fillet was small and dry, the mushroom sauce was not visible, it needed a proper amount of sauce provided on the side. Would definitely visit again and would hope some improvements were made.

We went for a last minute lunch while we were having a walk at the nearby beach, we were given a table with excellent views. The staff were friendly. The food arrived in time, and it was tasty. Each one of us liked their dishes. Will definitely return when we go I the area again.

I went there on my short holiday trip, it was a nice restaurant and my first time being there. I was celebrating an anniversary, food was good! A good selection of wine and a nice view! I wished i was closer to outside but there was a wedding happening. I recommend the lamb shanks and lasagne! Will be back!

Came here for lunch the other day.. Location is absolutely beautiful over looking the beach. Food was decent.. Casual pub food. Service was good.. Nice place to come on a sunny afternoon especially when it's warm so you can sit outside on the deck.

Beautiful hotel with amazing views overlooking the bay. The large grassed area out the back is perfect for kids to run around and sit out enjoying a drink. The large fireplace is very relaxing to sit in front of during the freezing cold winter. Rated 4/5 as it's always a nice day/evening out, beautiful premises with outdoor area, staff are pleasant, however the food (although nice) is not something I'd return for alone

  • 5/5 Wayne B. 1 year ago on Google
Although very busy and short staffed (like most other places) our experience was excellent. The woman at front of house was so welcoming and friendly. It appeared that the hotel had deliberately left some tables free given the short staffing situation, which was a great idea. Rather than fill the place and deliver substandard service they attended to all the diners efficiently. The food was excellent, standout dishes being the fish and chips, calamari and salmon pasta. An excellent job Portsea Hotel thanks very much.

Great historic hotel with some of the the best views in town! The Portsea Hotel is a terrific place to have a drink, relax and watch the world go by. You can't beat having a drink in the outdoor dining area (beer garden) and looking out to the pier and the surrounding sea on a beautiful sunny day. There's plenty of dining options inside too. Also a cosy fireside option in the cooler months. This hotel has been renovated, grown and changed over the years but much of the original charm remains. The garden is better than most you would find in a pub. I really like the way that the hotel gardens merge almost seamlessly with the beach at the back. Just down a few steps and you are on the beach. Always worth a visit :-)

Came on a nice Sunday. Arrived at midday, ended up served for food at 2:45pm. Initially every time we asked for an ETA staff were rude. One waiter said “they can’t just go into the kitchen to check, there’s too many dockets”. At the 2 hour mark, I got up and spoke to the girl with green hair. She said “it’s a 1 hour 45 minute wait” (after already waiting that long), didn’t even bother checking with the kitchen where our order was. Great! Would’ve been nice if you told us it was a 2 hour+++ wait before we sat down and ordered. Mind you the place is hardly full, we’re surrounded by empty tables. Table next to us was still waiting for their meal. In the end I went down to the kitchen who said they were on it right away. We found 1-2 waiters who were apologetic about the experience, ended up giving us a refund and acknowledged the kitchen was having issues. Could’ve been solved an hour into it if the initial staff members bothered to actually help us.

B E A utiful place. Amazing views, great service, lovely vibes, nice food (could have been better), great beers on tap. A nice place to visit on a summers day but also lively on a winters evening. Great with friends, families or even on date. The food was ok.. expected more from the produce available in the region. Service was absolutely perfect, great people and very nice to interact with. The place has a nice open atmosphere and its quite chill to just sit and relax. You can bring kids here as there is an open garden for them to play around. All in all a good visit..

The food is very average and overpriced. While we realise that the profit margin is slim these days, fresh fish cakes with a simple and gnocchi with green beans and peas, are simple to make. The ingredients for both are inexpensive, as well. Very disappointing meals.

  • 3/5 Alf S. 3 months ago on Google New
Firstly, cannot fault the service as it was consistent and well managed, however the food is pretty flavourless. The fish and chips were mostly batter, which creates the illusion of a lot of food. Also requesting a default 5% tip is not a great idea, it should be 0% and let the customer decide.

  • 4/5 S.Caroline H. 10 months ago on Google
A lovely old-become-new hotel. If you plan a family party there such as a wedding and you want to have all guests hosted, this should be a good place. If you are traveling and need a 1-night rest, it's good enough. It is definitely overpriced for what's on offer. The rooms are small and minimalistic. If you have the shared bathroom option, brace for some 80's feels. Very low budget bathrooms. Staff is friendly but understaffed when we stayed here. Direct access to Port Phillip Bay water edge does allow a morning dip within a very short walking distance. - Served its purpose but not coming back.

Very disappointed yesterday 25/8/23. Having to order using QR code is confusing and didn't work. We placed two orders for the table, one came in good time and looked great. My order of fish and chips and a calamari with chips ($12 extra) didn't come. After 45mins I questioned a waitress and asked about our order, she didn't come back. One of our party actually went in to the serving area and asked about our order. He showed them my phone which had the order confirmation and the payment of $78 including a tip !$ The original waitress returned to our table with a laptop and said she had not received any order and asked me to reorder. I again showed her an email with my order confirmation and the amount paid. She disappeared and 90mins after my original order was placed our meal arrived....without the $12 chips and the Calamari was terrible. I was offered a free coffee for the inconvenience...we just wanted to leave. I bring my family to your hotel whenever I am visiting and drive 90mins to get there and 90mins back, we won't be again. $190 for a chicken parmigiana, fish and chips ( no salad) and calamari (No chips or salad) and 3 drinks is excessive at best, but we are happy to pay for the location and great service..... Our experience was disappointing at best.

We went out for a quick dinner and had drinks a pizza and burgers. The margarita pizza was good. The 2 Cheeseburgers were discusting. asked for one well done and one normal and both were cooked well done. Cold cheese slapped on top. The buns were or tasted 2 days old and dry. Chips that came with the burger were great. Waist of money eating here. Manager did not care when asked. Save you money and don’t order burger from here.

I used to enjoy visiting the Portsea Hotel every summer for its stunning views and delicious food. However, my last visit was a complete disappointment. The service has taken a nosedive. We waited endlessly for our food, and to make matters worse, our Caesar salad never even made it to our table. We attempted to flag down the staff in passing, but they paid us no attention. In the end, I had to personally check the kitchen, only to find our neglected food sitting on the counter. This experience left me thoroughly unsatisfied.

Very bad service: - we had to get our own plates, water and cutlery. -We booked ahead of time and requested a table with a nice view and didn't get a nice table location. The pizza had no sauce, dough overcooked/burned (hard to cut) and had poor topping quantities. I was very disappointed with the whole experience specially that I drove for 2 hours to get here.

My review is on the bar not the hotel or food. We dropped in on a Saturday late afternoon after a walk and wanted a drink. The bar had a good selection of beers and wines. We were proactively offered a table in the main restaurant area but declined and found our own table outside. The outside area is lovely with great views and lots of space. The bar staff were friendly and we enjoyed some banter with a member of staff clearing tables outside. I personally like the interaction with staff as it gives a unique experience.

The Portsea Hotel is an absolute gem on the Mornington Peninsula! 🌊 With its rich history dating back to 1876, it’s a place that truly captures the essence of this stunning coastal region. The picturesque location right on Port Phillip Bay is nothing short of breathtaking. The views alone are worth the visit! 🌅 Whether you’re here for a meal, a drink, or an overnight stay, you’ll be immersed in a serene and relaxing atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure your experience is top-notch. The menu offers a delightful selection of local dishes, and the seafood options are a must-try! 🦐🍴 I also had the pleasure of exploring Point Nepean National Park nearby, which was easily accessible from the hotel. The history and natural beauty of the area were simply awe-inspiring. Overall, the Portsea Hotel is a must-visit destination. It’s a place where history meets modern hospitality, and where you can soak in the best of the Mornington Peninsula. I can’t wait to return! 🥂

The Portsea Pub is an institution on the Mornington Peninsula. On a sunny Saturday or Sunday you cannot get near this place. We visited on a lovely sunny Thursday and had no problem getting a table in the window with a great view. We ordered our food and drinks via the QR code system on the table. Here’s where things go off the rails. The drinks took way too long to get to us but we were conscious that it wasn’t busy and there weren’t a lot of staff on. We weren’t in a hurry so we chilled out. At the point where it had been 1 hour since we ordered our food we let the staff know that we ordered an hour ago can you please check on our food. Here’s where things got back on track and a not so good experience was turned into a fantastic experience due to the guy running the restaurant. I wish I’d got his name. After less than 5 minutes this guy came to our table and took a seat to explain what had happened to our order. Basically the kitchen staff stuffed up our order. He instantly suggested that we order something else for free, he refunded what we paid for our food and also gave us a round of drinks on the house. The food was great. The beer was great and this guy did a magnificent job of admitting that a stuff up had occurred and instantly offered a solution and compensation without us needing to ask. It’s a popular pub because of its fantastic location, great food and excellent service.

My daughter and I had lunch at the restaurant. The service provided by Tayler upon our visit was absolutely outstanding! I wish more people like him worked in this industry! Taylor have shown us a very welcoming gesture and being very helpful, let alone using a great sense of humour making all guests happy. We also enjoyed the venue, the atmosphere and of course, the view ;-). Thank you.

Good food however something is a bit of a let down for me is that when ordering with the QR code, the default is set to 5% tip, with all tip amounts in bright orange and the “no tip” selection quite intentionally hidden in plain old boring white. Blatant trickery to hope patrons don’t see this and process payment whilst unwittingly giving a tip they had no intention of giving. This is a disgraceful tactic which my elderly uncle fell for. The default should be selected to no tip and people should have the choice to tip for good service etc accordingly. Not tricked into giving extra money when we actually don’t live in a tipping society and we are already being slugged a surcharge for using a debit card. Absolute poor practice you should be ashamed for trying to take advantage of people overlooking this.

The food, the service, the cleanliness, and the timely manner was impeccable. Hands down to Harry at the bar, he really knows how to make a spicy Bloody Mary.. the best on the peninsula. Did I mention the food was amazing!!!!! The waitress Samantha was so kind, and helpful. Always respectful when she approached us at the table and so kind🔥 Portsea hotel seems to really have stepped up!
